Our pricing structure is based on the overall scope of work, both on an individual project, and the overall amount of projects you give us. In addition you save money by purchasing all materials and pay us only for labor. This means you do not pay sales tax on labor, which is required if a contractor provides the materials. However we place the materials on order for you and you need only call for their purchase, which saves you time and money.
John at first presented himself as a professional contractor. He came into the home; talked a very good game. He came back with a very documented proposal which indicated he may know what he is doing. He also provided a list of references; which again indicated he may know what he is doing. He also provided pictures of previous work; which did not look bad. So I called one of the references which provided me with a satisfied rating. So I said OK. He stated work very well. I could not complain. After the start, it went down hill. A friend of mine told me afterwards an initial good start is called "Striking the Nail into the Coffin" Gives you a sense of well being at the start. I paid for all the supplies. He picked them up at Home Depot. That is another think he likes to mention that he is a "Home Depot Pro". He has no connection with Home Depot. The initial tear down went well. He re-installed the shower board, then started with the tile. That is when it went bad. He and his crew (which consisted of himself and one other person) stared cutting tile by hand with a tile blade attached to a drill motor. I should have said Good Bye at that time; but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Wrong Again. They got the walls up; which at the time did't look too bad which was without the grout. Then he put in the floor; BIG, BIG Mistake. The floor was uneven at the start which I thought he would straighten out before placing the tile down. No he did not even the floor out. I had left for a couple days; I came back to the most uneven shower floor in the city of Tampa, state of Florida, country of USA and possibly the entire world. He finished the grout; then you could see the lines are out. Not by a lot; but enough to wonder why I used this person to start with. Bottom line do not let this man do any TILE work for you, It is a waste of time and money. Instead of a beautiful shower; after each use I have to use a squeegee to remove the water from the floor to keep it from leaking .

John (Fred) Weaver was contracted by me to finish my bathroom remodel. I had already fired one contractor for buying supplies for his other jobs and charging them to my Lowe's account. I contacted John and he came over to do an estimate within a week of our conversation. His prices were low (they seemed too low), but I needed to get the bathroom done and he sent me a list of references. I assume he banked on the fact that I wouldn't check the references (my own fault). The day he was supposed to show up, he pulled a no call, no show. When I finally contacted him, he said he was doing a job on Davis Island and we rescheduled for Monday. On Monday, my roommate let him in and told me he was there for six hours with a helper and took off. At the end of the day on Monday, he called and insisted I be there on Tuesday and to "bring my checkbook". We had agreed on a $275.00 deposit, with the remaining balance to be paid upon satisfactory completion of the job. On Tuesday, during a tropical storm, he insisted I come to my home, though I was flooded in at my friend's home in Sarasota. I got to my and found out from my roommate that he had not shown up until 11am. He then wanted me to go to Home Depot to purchase supplies with him, which I did. He did not need the supplies that day, so we put them on hold until Thursday. I told him I would deliver the supplies to him on Thursday. He insisted he needed grout to grout the shower tile, I understood this and purchased it for him that day. As soon as we got back from Home Depot, he told me the pricing for the job had become more expensive, over $400.00 over the original estimate. I felt this to be shady, considering I am a set designer and had sketched and detailed every aspect of what I wanted done as well as verbally explained it to him. He then asked for a $400.00 advance on the job payment. At this point, the total labor expense went from being $585.00 to $985.00, almost double. Foolishly, I gave him a postdated $400.00 check. He then left for the day with his assistant after being there for only 3 hours, saying he had another appointment. The next day I got a call from him saying he couldn't come because his assistant had come down with "cancer". He assured me he would be there the next day. The next day came and he did not show up. A week later, after no phone call, he started sending me threatening emails and texts saying the $400.00 check I postdated "bounced" and that I was a liar and a crook. He then went on to state that the job was scheduled to be done weeks ago and blamed me for his not showing up on the scheduled dates. It seems that he has no bank account and takes checks to AMSCOT to be cashed. AMSCOT started calling me and said this man brought a check that they cashed and he or I had to pay it. I clearly stated the check was postdated for the day the work on my house should have been completed and he had committed fraud. He then started sending me threatening messages saying that he was going to have a warrant issued for my arrest and was working with a fraud detective, a lien would be put on my house, I am a liar and only make excuses so he can't come and finish the job, etc, etc. The man is incapable of taking responsibility for his own actions. PLEASE WATCH FOR THIS MAN.
Description of Work: He put up my shower tile, but DID NOT do the finishing (edging or mosaic border) work. He ordered and picked up supplies from Home Depot. He put a wax ring on the toilet bowl hole (please excuse my lack of knowledge about proper terms for these services). He put metal hoses to attach to the faucets from the wall. He spent about six hours doing so.

After trying to help him out, by giving him a partial payment, in exchange for a promise to complete the last bit of work over the weekend of 3/30/2012, and receiving email confirmation that it was in fact complete except for grout on the bathroom floor, we were very disappointed to return to the property to find it was not even close to what his emails stated. Upon confronting him with this, he became extremely nasty and in effect blamed everyone under the sun for his shortcomings, and walked off the job. We contacted 3 other independent and impartial other companies to quote us what it would cost us to complete the work he walked away from. To our total shock, all 3 pointed out several severe problems from his poor workmanship. They are , in order of severity are: 1. The liner pan in the shower, had been cut during the tiling of the shower floor. This will cause untold water damage as water leaks thru the shower and under the floorboards. 2. The shower was created with a slope that drains the water away from the drain, instead of towards it,. and considering the above error, will bring water constantly to where it runs under the floors 3. He tiled the bathroom floor directly over the plywood. While there is no building code controlling this, to not have a moisture barrier in a bathroom floor is just incredibly bad practice. We were told this by 3 other tile contractors. 4. He installed the toilet before installing the baseboards and did not accommodate the spacial difference needed to be able to replace the toilet after the baseboards were on. This caused the toilet to no longer fit in the allotted space 5. Grout was overused to fill in areas, and many areas of the shower wall and shower area , and shower seat, have up to 2" of open grout, that we are told will cause undue cracking There are other small issues as well, but the above issues are causing us great hardship, both financial and emotional and I want to express my extreme dissapointment in using the services of John Weaver I have only a very small retained balance to John Weaver, which is not even close to the close to $2000.00 it will cost me to have his very poor work, corrected. I have photo proof of all that I am claiming, and if I can save even 1 person from this same hardship, than my time documenting this was worth it.
Description of Work: We hired John Weaver Construction to be the interior and trim contractor for our home renovation of adding a master suite to our beach home in St Pete Beach Florida. He had previously done a pretty good job, for a fair price on a small bathroom remodel, of removing a tub and creating a shower. At that point we believed his work was good. When the room was built, John was supposed to do the tile work and all completion items for our master bath. What should have taken a few weeks, kept getting delayed and delayed. John kept making excuses for the delays by blaming our GC for his delays. While some of this may have been valid in February and early March, Johns delays stretched out the entire month of March and into April.
