I really hate to write this right now, but after giving this contractor the benefit of the doubt way too many times, I feel it now a moral obligation to you as my neighbor to warn you about doing business with Hanley Heating and Air Conditioning. The saddest part is that Rich Hanley came referred to me by a friend, one who now will never do business with him again after how he handled the work in my home. I really don't have the time to write the entire story out on here, but here are a few bullet points of what I have had to endure while working with him. 1. I gave him a 50% deposit the Saturday before the work began. He began the work on Tuesday (I assume to allow time for the check to clear) On Wednesday, (day 2 of work), I gave him another 25%. He was doing the work for us the week before a long weekend so he approached my husband on Friday and asked if we could give him the final 25% before the weekend so that it could clear and he could pay his guys before the holiday. We said ABSOLUTELY! Of course we wanted him to be able to pay his guys so we happily wrote him the check. However, we gave him this check with the understanding that the work was going to be completed that same day or at the very latest on Saturday. That did not happen and instead he left our family without air conditioning over the long weekend. Note: I live with elderly parents and I was days from having given birth to a newborn. Therefore there were three kids, and 4 adults left to live without air for an entire week while the work was done. ohhh boy, this is getting long already and I am not even giving you half the details, because trust me you don’t want them… 2. Having realized my husband and I were idiots for paying a contractor in full before the work was completed, I frantically called my bank first thing Tuesday morning and asked if there was anyyyyy remote chance we could have the check cancelled. By the grace of GOD, they were able to put a stop payment on the check. 3. Since Rich was changing out ALL of my existing duct work, I asked him if he needed a permit. He said NO. Absolutely not. I was advised otherwise, so I called code enforcement who told me he did, in fact, need a permit. Surprise... he lied. He will swear to this day he did not know he needed a permit, but I don't know what quality AC contractor who has been in business for 16 years could not know the code laws. Another red flag! 4. I get a call a few days later that my check didn't clear. He proceeds to tell me that he over-drafted his account and that it is my fault. I offer to write him another check even though at this point the permit has not been pulled and I am still waiting for Code Enforcement to call him and notify him. Well, I felt bad he was over-drafted and I wanted to help him get his account right even though that is not my problem. His financial problems should be of no concern to me as a customer. And even less should I be BLAMED for not having sufficient funds in his account. I was shocked. 5. After the check cleared (he went to a check cashing place and they had to call me to verify I gave him the check) he sends me all these texts blaming me for all the problems. Excuses galore. Mind you, still not permit, holes all over my ceilings that I can't get repaired until it passes inspection. 6. He messages me that he was called about the permit, and would be pulling it the same day. A week goes by and still nothing. I reach out and he gave me another excuse that he was busy and would have it pulled that day. Again nothing. I text him the next day and basically have to threaten to report him to DBPR which is when finally took care of pulling the permit. OHHH GOSH SOOO MUCH TO TELL. 7. The inspection gets scheduled for a Tuesday. He messages me the morning of and tells me that the county was overloaded and hd to roll me into the next day. Then he calls me the next morning that he wasn’t given sufficient notice by the inspector and would need to cancel that appointment too. So I called the county because I didn’t trust a word he said anymore, and the county told me HE cancelled the appointment on Tuesday, not the county, and sited OWNER NOT AVAILABLE as the reason! WHAT!!? I was sitting at home all day. With a newborn and working from home, I do not go anywhere, and even less if I know I have a standing inspection. 8. We pass inspection SOMEHOW. And then the drywall contractor comes out to repair the drywall and finds my brand new ducts perspiring A LOT. Like dripping. He can’t do the work. I text Rich and no answer. I reach out to the county who tells me Rich is blaming it on an older unit I have and is convinced that unit is leaking. I have another AC company out and that unit is completely dry! Not the unit. Now I have to get a senior inspector out here tomorrow to reinspect. I’ve been warned by another AC company that the leaks could be a few things… from the way he installed it, to the possibility that the ductwork is undersized or not sealed properly. And the humidity issue could be because it’s not charged properly or the units were not put back together properly, or that he put the system/plenums crossed up to where each unit is controlling the wrong space. Long story short, we still don’t know why my brand new ducts are leaking. Its possible its minor, its possible its major. So there you have it. I finally lost it today and said, it is time I share my experience with others. Please save yourself the aggravation of dealing with this contractor. Even if he bids under someone else, a few dollars is not worth your sanity and peace of mind.

Richard Hanley is so easy to work with and is honest. He's a very hands-on owner so you always get to work with him directly. He is very accessible as well. We've used him and his business several times for small and big AC repairs in the past and are always very pleased with the level of customer service and pricing we receive. Richard is very personable and I would definitely recommend him and Hanley to anyone looking to have any type of AC or heating work done.

So far so good. No complaints.
Description of Work: Rick is a great guy. I've used him before when I ran an apartment complex and we needed permits pulled on hundred of units. After awhile I wanted an AC installed at my house with a permit pulled as well. He did so, and moved my air handler from the attic and into my house closet. He showed up as he said he would, had his guys haul away the old rust bucket, and put everything up to code. His prices are very reasonable. I refer him to others often.
