Our association needed the landscape lighting done for a major upcoming community event. Though the time was short and the weather often uncooperative, from planning to implementation and completion, Erwin did a wonderful job! They offered us terrific suggestions, maintained close contact with our board and made certain that we were completely satisfied. We were!! We recently built a home in St. Petersburg and our builder – Monogram Homes - recommended that we consider using Erwin Electric. During the 16-month design and build process, we had an opportunity to work with a number of representatives from Erwin – including Robin Erwin directly. Robin would work diligently to resolve any complex electrical issue that came up during construction and she surrounds herself with a team of professionals that have a similar “solutions-oriented adviser” mindset. In every interaction, we were extremely pleased with the company’s responsiveness, organization, innovative solutions and customer service. Mike spent hours under the house and in the hot attic. He took care to minimize damage to the plaster walls. The crew did everything on the contract. Being an old house they ran into some unexpected surprises and adjusted the plan to keep the project on track. During the process they took down every light fixture and ceiling fan and reinstalled them. The were careful with all the fragile glass. They made sure the house was cleaned when they left. After the project was finished I had a question about an outlet, Jerry came in the evening to check. While there he noticed I had a new ceiling fan, he put it up for me.
Description of Work: Totally rewired 1930s home. Added outlets, smoke and CO detectors brought everything up to code for 2014. Jerry S was the project manage. He kept me informed on the various city inspections and coordinated TECO inspection/interactions.

In this situation we were not allowed to provide the service that we were called out to complete because the employee did not have an ID badge. The employee DID arrive in a very professionally marked, company provided, service vehicle and was wearing a company provided shirt with the logo on the front and back. Although our employee did what he could to satisfy the concerns of the customer, he ultimately left without performing the work. Ironically, this same employee received a glowing letter of satisfaction from another satisfied customer THE VERY NEXT DAY. We are sorry we were not able to help this particular customer. We have taken to heart the concern of this customer and now provide our service electricians with company ID badges.

Well I have reviewed this company in the past and had been more than delighted to give them an A, but unfortunately it's hard for some companies to consistently deliver A quality service. Last time they had serviced two homes in one day and worked diligently into the night. They provided high quality work at a very competitive price. I brought them back with the same expectations but was surpassed at the lack of communication, forgetfulness and overall disorganization. It seemed like a very different company second time around. After they came for the project review they made an appt to start half the work (light pole installation) while they put together an estimate for the remainder of the work. They forgot to show up! After a quick call they politely apologized and made a new appt. They took my old pole out laying it on the ground and said they needed more parts and would come back in a few days to finish. I never received a call back on the estimates and I also still have a hole in the ground with wires sticking out of it. The company that had once been a shining star of pride, quality, and reliable service has certainly turned into an unorganized and very unreliable company in my eyes. I found another company which is starting the work now. They are more expensive but they outperform in terms of communication and reliability.

To start, I have used my own handy man in the past for jobs. I gave up on handymen all who charge per hour and some how end up turning a job into a 3 month ordeal. So I am new to Angie's list and Erwin electric won the bid. They were very polite on the phone and prompt arriving at 8:30am. Two men showed up and reviewed the job including where to create holes to place the canister lighting as well as re-wiring in the attic. The old house had very poor aluminum wires vs new safer copper, therefore a switch out was performed. This did lengthen the time of work but the peace of mind is worth it. They then installed dimmers and ran checks to make sure all was fine. They then went to the other house and finished the outdoor lighting timer. They were done by 8:30pm. While 12 hours may seem like a bit much, we are talking two homes one of which was very old with a tight attic and had pre-existing wire issues. All in all they stayed within a reasonable degree to their estimate, cleaned up very well after themselves, and were very professional during the entire time. I will be using them again and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I have two homes, one which needed an outdoor lighting timer installed and the other home which was a large job requiring installation of recessed canister lights. Ceiling fan install.

Overall, I was extremely disappointed in the responsiveness and professionalism, or lack thereof. Even if the company had just decided last week to no longer include Sarasota County in its service area, a return call would have been appreciated...or better still, tell the person answering the phones to tell callers they no longer service Sarasota County so as not to waste anyone's time. The receptionist had all my information and didn't hesitate when I said I lived in Sarasota, and even remembered my call from the previous week and sounded surprised nobody had called me since the previous Thursday. I would not use or recommend this company.
Description of Work: I need what I have been told is significant electrical work done. The company I use for A/C work has an electrical department as well. The quote they gave me was over Eight Thousand Dollars (after a discount) so I wanted to get a second opinion. Using Angie's List, I picked Erwin Electric. Their posting on this site said they serviced Manatee/Sarasota Counties. I called on a Thursday to have someone come out and give me a quote. The person I needed was in the field but the receptionist said she would have him call to arrange a date and time. I waited until Monday afternoon -still no return call. I called again and after electing to hold (and hold), I was put through to Scott. Scott said he'd gotten the message, but he thought Sarasota County was a little too far to come. I told him I had found the company on Angie's List, and the company information said it serviced Sarasota. He said he would have to talk to his boss about removing Sarasota County from Angie's List's site. In the meantime, their website has an article about work they are doing in Northport (a LOT further south than Sarasota), and a testimonial from someone in Bradenton, ten miles north. I just felt like I was getting the brush off because he did not feel like making the drive to provide a quote. A return call on Friday (even Monday morning) would have been helpful so I could have made other calls instead of waiting on Erwin Electric thinking I would be getting a quote from them.

Our residential service area includes the Hillsborough, Pinellas, some areas of Manatee, Pasco, and Hernando counties. We updated to this information in Angies List. We do travel for larger work (work over $50,000.00) wich typically tends to be commercial and industrial work or even large custom homes. We even do out of state work. This customer is an hour and twenty seven minutes from our office, 70.2 miles (per Google Maps). I am not sure why should would not pick someone closer to her home for residential service work? It would be very expensive for us to serve her residential needs. Our service manager indicated to her, it was a little far for us. We would need to take into consideration the drive time and reflect that in any quote we would give her. That would probably make us cost prohibitive. We are sorry for the inconvience we caused the member.

I originally requested pricing for whatever was needed to install a transfer switch for a portable generator for power outages along with permits and change out whatever needed changing to comply with code. The waiting time for the quote, I was told, would depend on their supplier getting back to them and that could be up to a week. I called a week and one day later and was told that it would take one to two more working days. It took two. The estimate I received left out the cost for permitting, replacing ill fitting breakers which we had discussed, the cable to connect the generator to the breaker box as well as clean up. In fact the contract delineated all these as separate charges and failed to give me an estimate for those things. The contract looked like something out of the offices of a combination of a mortgage lender, lawyer and a paranoid used car salesman. The thing tried to cover every possible thing that could go wrong to the company's advantage. I replied to Mr. Kibler when I received his delayed and incomplete quote with my disappointment. I was not rude but I did tell him I would not be doing business with him. I sent a copy to the owners and they made no attempt to salvage the sale. To be fair Mr. Kibler seemed polite and knowledgeable. He just did not do what I had asked. Nor did he do what he said he was going to do when he said he was going to do it. He also said he would help me decide on a generator which he did not do. He did make it a point to tell me that he had told me that he was going to be on vacation for a week after our first meeting. Perhaps he whispered it softly or not at all because I do not remember him telling me that. At any rate I did wait one day longer than a week to follow up. When I asked Ms Erwin why she did not try to salvage the sale she just said I had already told Mr. Kibler I would not do business with them. In my mind that is just further evidence that they really are not trying to make their customers happy. Like so many these days, they say a whole lot but do very little unless it is the shortest route to the dollar. Monday 2.27.2012 Hi, I'm Member. I'm writing to respond to the rating we received from Member. He explained what he was disappointed with and we are truly sorry for letting him down. He wrote about us not being able to get back with him in a timely manner and the manner in which our proposal was written. We replied back the very next day, apologizing, and understanding why he was disappointed in us. We would like to think we could have served Member. But in his Sunday e-mail he made it clear he did not want to hire us. In regards to our proposal language, we try to cover everything that can happen in regards to the work we perform. We use the proposal for both homeowners and general contractors. It is a one size, fits most applications proposal. We try to be as clear as possible, so everyone understands what we are providing and for how much. Scott is my service manager. He does very well by his customers. If you read our company reviews on our website, www.ErwinElectric.com, many of the reviews are from the customers of Scotts. They represent a small sample of the many glowing customer testimonials of Scott and his service crew. Second I did request the above mentioned items to be priced and you left them out of your quote, third your contract is ridiculous for a simple job for homeowner. Third I told you I needed help with making sure what generator to get. You said you would help and you didn't. While you were polite and seemingly going to be very helpful you let me down on all fronts. I like doing business with people who put their customers first and do what they say when they say they are going to do it. You actions rather than your words and the company's contract show very clearly who's interests come first. I did not know who to contact so I decited to join Angies list.. After looking at the list of companies available I choose Erwin. I have seen their trucks on the road so I knew they were well established in the community. Next I read their reviews and I was very pleased. after calling a young man named Matt came to my home. He was very nice, friendly and fixed my problems!!! He also pointed out that my light switches and electrical outlets were not safely wired!! Well you can imagine what a shock that was to think there was a possiblity of a fire in my home. He showed me what the problemwas and howit needed to be corrected. Being the skeptic that I am Igoogled itand he was right!!! I have arrainged for Erwin to come back next week and correct the jproblem through out my house.. I am greatful that Matt pointed this problem out to me. Keeping my family and my 4 legged babies safe is number 1 priority!!!!

The experience was okay, but was disappointed that they didn't follow my instructions. They did the work and installed the outlet, but in the wrong place. Hence, they will consult my local representative next week and sort it out. I will use their services in future, if required.

We worked with the owner to resolve this and believe we installed his outlet now, per his requirements. It was our fault. I appreciate the business they gave us and hope the cutomer now, is satifiied, that when we mess up, we do everything we can to make it right.
