The "person" answering the phone was mean, rude an nasty. Why would I want to spend $1000's with a company who would rudely charge me just to look at my job!
Description of Work: I called for an estimate which was not advertised as a charge. I have talked to over a dozen companies and none other wanted to charge me for an estimate on a $5000 job.

Our dispatch fee for same day service is $29. We normally waive it for estimates, but that is if you allow us to schedule the visit when myself (Chuck) or Mike are next available. Jasmine, the young lady you spoke with is always polite and professional. I know this because we listen to her interact with clients all day long and many client comment here on this review board about how helpful she is. Chuck Detari

After scheduling with Chuck's, I received an email confirmation with all details of our appointment time, and also a photo of the plumbing technician who would be servicing our property. The photo included his name and the date he passed his most recent background screening. The technician arrived on time, spoke to me at length to determine and isolate the issue, and resolved the problem by using the auger to clear the line. We have had the auger run regularly in our old copper plumbing to clear blockages. What was exceptional was that this technician took the extra step of isolating the exact area of the problem and scheduling a camera technician to see what the blockage consists of. This is a free service and will help us map out a plan to resolve the issues. Chuck's charges by the job performed, not the amount of time spent. this was lucky for us, as it took the technician quite awhile to address the problem and resolve it correctly. We are very happy with this provider and feel they go above and beyond to define the cause and resolve the problems.
Description of Work: Inspection to determine problem area, pulled the toilet and ran auger through to clean out.

Setting up appt was easy. I also liked getting the Seal of Security and Confidence Certificate when I set up the appt. The plumber was nice and did good work. The part I had a problem with was not knowing what I was paying for. Chuck does not separate parts from labor. He also did not call me when parts were in-I had to call to schedule. It took 2 weeks to get work done. And he did not credit me for charging me $78 to put on a toilet seat. When I called to ask for the credit Chuck said they do not usually charge for something as simple as putting on a new toilet seat as long as you do other work.
Description of Work: Repaired a leak in my faucet and put on a new toilet seat. (2 separate visits) I needed a new pump for my whirlpool but he quoted my $900 and would not tell me how much the part was.

I hope you can understand I have to pay the technician to go to your home as well as fuel, truck payment, truck insurance and maintenance. When ordering parts for whirlpool tubs we are at the mercy of our vendors. We have found a new vendor for whirlpool parts and hope that issue is solved. Thank you for your business. Chuck Detari

On October 21, 2015 I was given an estimate of $ 1027.00 repair unseen ( because it was under the floor) to repair a broken hot water pipe, the estimator figured that they would be able to cap off the broken pipe and reroute the hot water line through the wall and I agreed to proceed and scheduled the repair for Tuesday 10/27/2015. The plumber arrived and after seeing what needed to be done and reviewing the estimate, begin working and had to remove about 20sq ft. of drywall ( I had already removed the vanity, laundry sink, washing machine and removed the drywall in those area's) he ran about 20 feet of new 3/4" hot water line and was able restore the water. Than he gave me my Bill for $ 1,627.00, Of course I questioned the Bill but he said that would be the amount so I paid him. I mailed a letter on Friday 10/30/2015 to Chuck and provided pictures of the work completed and asked him to review the work that had been completed and charge me a Fair Price for what was done. Today Is 11/27/2015 and still no response for Chuck, I guess he would have been more forth coming if I hadn't paid the Bill. (my mistake) All I'm asking for is a Fair Price from Chuck. Sincerely, Harold McDonald

I contacted Chuck's Plumbing on Friday November 20, 2015 because I had a minor dripping tub faucet that needed to be diagnosed and repaired. The drip was very minor and had been ongoing for approximately 6 weeks. However, over the past two weeks I noticed it was getting worse. My water bill had risen $20 over its usual rate and I needed to address this problem ASAP. Unfortunately, I was having a great deal of difficulty finding a plumber who was comfortable working on a Jacuzzi bathtub and there was no plumber in my Home Warranty Service area that was available due to the same. I discovered that the problem with the Jacuzzi faucet is due to its unique size of wrench and so I was proactive and ordered a Rainbow Faucet wrench and delta cartridge set from Jacuzzi directly. I have a fairly new Jacuzzi tub that has never had service before so the cartridges were sent to me according to my registered model and serial number. I fully disclosed to Barbara the Office Manager that it was a Jacuzzi model tub and I had the wrench and cartridges from Jacuzzi. Barbara relayed her plumbers were all comfortable with Jacuzzi tubs. Barbara scheduled me for the Saturday November 21, 2015 for a window between 2 pm and 5 pm. I was very happy with the promptness and ease of scheduling. In fact, Vinny the plumber was ahead of schedule and arrived to my home around 1:30 pm. I showed Vinny the problem with my tub. He noted the very minor drip as well. I gave him the Rainbow Wrench and cartridges from Jacuzzi and he shut off the water. I also showed him several additional items in my bathroom that needed estimates but were not emergent: 1) new drain cover for my tub for cosmetic purposes only 2) new turn off valve for one of my shower heads in my large walk in shower 3) caulking for tub and shower 4) installation of new bidet toilet seat and 5) low water pressure in the flow rate of my toilet. I told Vinny that I had pre authorization from my warranty service to hire any licensed plumber but I needed to have the plumber contact them and provide his diagnosis and get an authorization number so I could be reimbursed. In short, I was paying the entire bill out of my pocket and I just needed an authorization number for my invoice so I could be reimbursed to the extent feasible. I made the call to the warranty company on MY PHONE and handed to Vinny the Plumber who took it outside in order to multitask: Smoke and give a description of my faucet and toilet pressure problems. I watched him from the window and my phone recorded the time he spent on the line with the warranty company. It was literally less than 5 minutes yet he spend a good 40 percent of his time at my home outside on his personal cell phone and smoking. Vinny turned off the main water valve that supplied my house and dismantled the hot and cold turn off knobs. He stated that the cartridge that Jacuzzi sent me seemed a bit too tight and he was going to use it. He used cartridges he had on hand from the truck. When he finished his repair of my faucet drip, he moved onto service my toilet. However, he decided that it was more prudent to just replace the entire toilet because it was more than 20 years old and he literally did nothing with or to the toilet Vinny finished up his work and spent an inordinate amount of time writing up proposals for me for the estimates. We also decided on which toilet should be ordered -- and he examined the new bidet seat. He packed up and left and said he would get back to me regarding the installation of the toilet when he received it. About 30 minutest after Vinny departed my home, I wanted to take a nice relaxing bath in my beautiful Jacuzzi tub sans the annoying drip drip drip. I got into the tub. Turned on the water and filled up the tub. However, when I turned the water off I saw two separate small thin but fast flowing streams of water coming out of my faucet. This was new and this was not a drip ...it was a flow so fast that I was forced to call Barbara the office manager. She stated that she could not do anything until Monday but she would have someone call me early monday morning. I told her I would have to shut the water off to my house because it was too fast (no open access panel to the tub unfortunately) Vinny contacted me right away and said there was NO WAY that faucet was not fixed. He stated he tested it "15 times" That is not true at all because I observed him throughout the process and my husband was planted in the bedroom for the entire appointment. The tub was bone dry when I stepped into it shortly after he left. I didn't understand the immediate blame game. Blame Shifting. Something wasn't fixed right so immediately it must be my fault. I was even told that I must have turned the knobs too tightly. I decided that a video of the water stream might be more helpful and so both Barbara and Vinny told me to video and and text it to them. Since I was still in the tub and not yet gotten out...I had my husband turn the water on while I videoed it. We were stunned., Now the tub faucet is flowing full force and the knobs won't turn the water off at all. The turn off valves were not functioning. They wouldn't even slow the stream. husband quickly ran outside and turned off the water to the whole house ...again. Vinny was pulled from his job and he drove back out to my house. He was defensive and frustrated. He still is not taking responsibility or accountability for anything. All we heard was "Ive been doing this for 15 years" or We must have done something or the installation of the tub 5 years ago was improper and on and on. As soon as he took his screw driver out and redid the cartridges the water shut off. That was the first clue that the installation was poorly executed. As he was finishing up, we decided that we better test that faucet again. This time the water is coming out full force but it is now spraying all over the place. Instead of flowing downward, the water is flowing horizontally. I've never ever seen anything like this in my life. It was not an issue when he left the first time. I just couldn't shut the water off. Vinny surmised that a washer or spring was sucked up into the faucet. He stated when he removed the cartridge the first time he noticed the spring was missing. It might have fallen down the "hole" in the turn off valves. It obviously wasn't' an issue before he arrived because I just had a very minor drip and the facets were able to shut off about 98% He admitted at least one of the items sucked into the faucet was from his install because there was a piece missing to the cartridge he just installed. He was frustrated, perplexed and didn't know what was wrong and didn't know how to disassemble the faucet. I found the model numbers and information and he stated he would research it and return on Monday with another person and they would turn the water on full blast without the cartridges in place and force whatever they sucked up into was forced out....Otherwise he would have to pull the tub. He couldn't dismantle the waterflow faucet because he was afraid he would be break it. The cartridges were not replaced. The turn off valves were disassembled. We both felt that was OK because it was a deterrent to not touch the tub until he could return on Monday. As he packed up to leave he instructed me to contact Barbara right away so she could get me back on the schedule for early Monday. He explained that since he came back out to the house that she would not realize that the job was still incomplete. I asked him to contact her and he stated he was working all tomorrow and it would be best if I contacted her myself. So, I obliged...again. I texted her about 15 minuets after he left and she called me immediately stating she wasn't going to run my AMEX card but I needed to find another plumber. She droned on and lectured me that she had been nice, she had to talk to me "all day" and she was just trying to help. She stated that they were just a family run plumbing business and "she knew who I was" (what does that mean?) She emphasized that she had to accommodate me by speaking to me several times that day. I was stunned. I am certain I only contacted Barbara once to report the fact that I couldn't turn off a my bathtub and to contact her at the direction of her plumber after he left for the second time. She in fact had called me multiple times throughout the day and made very unprofessional and faulty assumptions about what was going on in my house with her plumber...such as "he is confused about the role of the warranty service" There was no role. I contacted them handed him the phone and he was provided an authorization code. Five minutes. She told me to let him "Focus" I'm still perplexed over this statement. She told me that she had to talk to me a lot and she was trying to help me. She kept repeating that. When your plumber leaves after fixing a minor drip and you have to shut the water off to your whole house on a Saturday evening just before a Holiday...who was I supposed to call? How does a drip drip drip that only raises the bill a few dollars and the tub is fully functional end up with a valves that don't turn off and a water stream that sprays horizontally. The plumber admitted at least one of his fittings got sucked up into the faucet. Now, the tub knobs are dismantled. The tub is a disaster and non functional and the office manager dumps us without even attempting to repair the mess that was made by the sheer incompetence of their plumber. This is outrageous and despicable behavior. I will be taking further action because it is going to be very hard to remedy this problem. I need the name of their insurance company and I will deal with the licensure board. It is treatment like this that made me go to a home warranty company.
Description of Work: I had a minor drip from my faucet and I provided the cartridges sent from Jacuzzi. The plumber used his own non jacuzzi cartridges, didn't test the tub and left. Within 30 minutes after he left, I took a bath and the water valves didn't work at all the water from the tub couldn't be shut off. I had to turn the water off to my house. Plumber returned and reset the cartridge and that stopped the water from flowing but pieces of the new cartridge were sucked up into the faucet and yet another different problem developed with horizontal spraying of water from spout. Plumber admitted at least one of his pieces were sucked into faucet. He opted to return with another plumber on Monday because he needed help ...he didn't know how to dismantle faucet and he left the tub cartridges out and in pieces. Barbara the office manager called me and told me she wasn't running my amex and to find another plumber. Throughout this entire saga all I heard was every single excuse in the book as to how and why this was somehow my fault. I was even told that I must have turned the knobs too hard. I was told the plumber had to do too much paper work I was told the plumber couldn't focus. He had no trouble focusing on his smoke breaks. I was told about how much time Barbara had to spend on the phone talking to me yet she is the one who called me at least 5 times today. There was zero accountability or responsibility or professionalism demonstrated. How a minor drip can turn into this mess and I have been left with such a mess that I cannot imagine any plumber will touch it now ...plus the tub knobs are dismantled. Who breaks a tub and renders it non functional and then leaves the knobs dismantled and says...find another plumber? This is unacceptable and I will not let this one go. Barbara was upset I notified her by text at 7:54 pm on a Saturday night as directed by her plumber Vinny who had just left my home 15 minutes earlier so I could tell her what transpired and to be put back on the schedule for Monday. I asked him to contact her and he insisted I do it. There was no concern that this was MY Saturday and weekend off with my husband or that I was without a tub and now had to find another plumber to have my tub removed to be fixed the week of Thanksgiving. I want the name of their insurance company. I will be contacting the licensure agencies.

Chuck's Plumbing representative, Cleveland, arrived on time at my home. He drained the old water heater and removed it. He then installed a new water heater. The new water heater has a six year warranty. He placed water heat and other debris in his truck. He explained how to shut off the new water heater and how to drain it if I wanted. He was extremely professional and courteous. If I need plumbing work done in the future I will call them.

Flushing a tank style water heater can be quick and easy or take some effort. It all depends on the condition of the water heater and the drain valve at the bottom of the unit. All water heater manufacturers recommend that the heaters, both tank and tank less be flushed properly at least once a year depending on water conditions. We all know our water here in the bay area is not the best, so this is very important here. Please flush your water heater every year or call Chuck's Plumbing 813-933-.0477. We will be glad to flush it for you. Chuck Detari

Chuck's personnel--beginning with the woman who answers the phone night and day--have always been friendly, efficient and willing to discuss "plumbing realities" in detail. They show up on time, crawl, climb and clean up afterwards! I'm sure there are some slightly less costly plumbers around...but we have never had a problem that was not satisfactorily addressed during the initial service visit. They've made recommendations for longer-term solutions in some cases but have not indulged in hard sell. We would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Chuck's has provided services at our home several times in the last several years. Our home is well over 60 years old and has problems from time to time. This is not a review of a specific visit but of the services overall (thus date and cost above are approximate).

I called the provider and got an appointment two days out. The company is extremely professional, courteous and responsive, and they called and emailed the day prior to confirm the appointment. The day of the appointment, they called prior to heading to the home as a courteous call. Upon arrival, the gentlemen were extremely professional and courteous. I explained the kitchen faucet issue and other concerns, and they got to work. They tightened the faucet as needed and explained that they could do a deeper, more permanent repair if needed in the future, although it wasn't an absolutely priority unless I wanted to do it. (The subcontractor used a bracket to mount the faucet underneath, but these guys explained that it is unnecessary and actually causes the faucet to become loose over time). The gentlemen also addressed the other few random plumbing concerns I had, like the smell of sulfur int he water and a bathtub having the hot/cold lines reversed when the house was built. They provided guidance if we wanted to fix the hot/cold line issue. It was a great visit, and having access to companies like this is why I signed up for Angie's List. I likely would have never picked a company like Chuck's Plumbing, but I am thoroughly satisfied and will use them in the future for all of our plumbing issues.

I see we were out in June of 2014. We will always examine the water heaters condition before we flush it because we run into many heaters in bad shape. The reason is we do not want to cause it to leak when we flush it. When a water heater is this old we always recommend it be replaced before it starts to leak. The typical tank water heater last ten years. If your heater is this old and inside your home please replace it weather you use us or someone else before any damage is done. Normally Angie's List will refund your coupon price when we can not flush your heater. Chuck Detari

We are in the process of selling our house and a home inspection by the buyer revealed some leaks in a drain pipe under the house. I have been a long-time, satisfied customer of Chuck's Plumbing, so I called them for an estimate. When the plumber got to the house, I showed him the inspection report, including photographs, of what needed to be repaired. Two things happened. He quoted $3,600 to repair the needed leaks, and in addition, took it upon himself to seek out other leaks that weren't mentioned on the report, which he then offered to fix for another $2,500. Because he told me about this additional problem, I am now obliged to also repair it although the inspection report said, about this same pipe, "No leaks detected." In the meantime, I contacted a second plumber who quoted $868 for the first repair. At this time, I don't know whether the other leak is real or manufactured, and I don't know what it is actually going to cost, but I cannot stress how disappointed I am with this company that I have actually referred customers to.

Thank you for being a long time client. I understand that in your situation (selling your home) you rather not know about this problem, but it would be unethical and unprofessional for us to ignore a leak on a water line. Chris did not seek out other leaks, they were very obvious and next to the pipes you asked us to check. The corrosion on the two pipes in question make me wonder how the home inspector missed them. Chris took two photos and I will forward them to you today. We will gladly at no charge come back out and show you these issues if you would like. As for the plumber who said he would fix it for under 900, is he really fixing the problem or putting a band aide on it? We will replace the rotten pipe and guarantee it for the new owner. Appointment was for the 9a-11am slot today. We were called about 50 minutes prior to a 9:30am arrival as a heads-up, appreciated the timeliness. Had a gentleman named "Vinnie" doing the work. Friendly, easily to get along with and a sense of "goodness." The estimate was $249.00 before he began the actual work, and the bill reflected that amount. Also gave us an estimate on installing a double-stop (2 handles, 2 valves) off of the cold-feed from the wall if we wanted it in the future for $189.00. Vinnie was gone just before 11am, very nice. Around 90 minutes total time present. A bit of dampness left from the job, under the terry-clothe and small items we keep under the sink, on the wood surface that i wiped up and am airing the wood out currently, no big deal....likely quite normal in this situation. Called our faucet designer company out of curiosity after Chuck's Plumbing left. Faucet brand manufacturer Kohler said they'd charge $16.00 for the part to send us if we had ordered from them, and that the simple leak i described was handled w/ two basic tools and a PDF instruction they had on their website to swap out a valve. They stated the problem was sort of common. Had I spoken to Kohler previously, i would have done the valve swap myself and instead asked Chuck's Plumbing to just do the hot-cold swap along w/ perhaps the cold-feed double-stop (mentioned above) installation. Hindsight. NOTE: I mentioned to Vinnie that the Kohler website said they provided user-friendly parts & repairs were also user-friendly, and that i wondered what they charged for the valve...Vinnie did respond that i was free to order from them if i preferred to go thru them...which i said i didn't want to wait and take the time to figure it out. Noting the price and the level of work it required, hindsight tells me to double-check w/ the manufacturer ahead of time when possible i think. If you subtract the manufacturer's $16 quote from the $249 bill i paid (parts and labor), then you have about $150.00 an hour for Chuck's Plumbing labor costs. Expensive? Yes, more than i personally make an hour for sure. I would still use Chuck's Plumbing if i needed to, in the future, the service is good & feels trustworthy, even i don't like the hourly labor breakdown (I've not compared other normal Plumber costs so i don't know if that's a typical hourly fee or not).
Description of Work: Replaced a valve in a single-handle kitchen faucet, above sink work. Also volunteered to swap hot-n-cold lines under the same sink (they were reversed).

Called and left message. They called back rather quickly. Set up a date and time for service. They called day before and that day to confirm. Chris showed up on time. He quoted me a price. I thought it was a little steep, but I really needed this disposal installed. He installed the unit and the work was perfect.

The tech was prompt. Explained everything and used a book to price out repairs. I did not feel ripped off and all of the repairs have lasted. I tried a handyman before I called Chuck's and they did not fix it . Happy with Chucks!

Handymen are not licensed or insured to do plumbing repairs. And if a plumbing repair is not properly addressed the consequences (water damage, flooding, mold, etc.) can be costly. Handymen do many different home repairs and are essential service providers for many home owners. Our service technicians are professional plumbers and preform plumbing repairs and installations every day. We are fully licensed and insured. Our services cost more than a handyman, but you can rest assured that we will solve your plumbing issues. Chuck Detari

We discovered water leaking from the ceiling of a utility room light fixture late on a Friday night . Our home warranty company couldn't find a plumber who could come out before Monday. We had water to the house turned off and electricity to the room circuit-breakered off. We used Angie's List to find Chuck's. From the first call early Saturday morning, they were excellent. We were supposed to have someone between 4-6PM, however, Paul called and said he could come over 2 hours early! A service provider on an urgent weekend call showing up 2 hours early! Paul arrived minutes after his call and was perfect. Diagnosed the problem. Fixed it quickly. Was clean, personable, efficient and clearly did quality work. Additionally, he was happy to get on the phone with our home warranty company and explain the problem and the price quote for the solution. The price seemed fair, and even though the home warranty company will reimburse us, I would have thought the price reasonable if I were not being reimbursed by the home warranty. (Just to be clear, we did NOT get Chuck's through the home warranty company... we got them through Angie's List. The home warranty company couldn't find anyone to come for our expedited situation.) If/when we have a non-warranty plumbing job to do, I would not hesitate to contact Chuck's Plumbing.

Thank you for choosing Chuck's Plumbing. The dispatcher schedules calls in two to three hour widows to make sure the technician has ample time with each client. Some times the technician needs more time at a particular job, in which case we will call to let you know of any schedule adjustments. Some times the technician will be ahead of schedule and as in your case that is usually good news to the client. Chuck Detari

My problem is with the cost to do this job and how I was treated when I called to ask why it cost so much. My mistake was not being there for the job to question the estimate. My wife was there and she didn't know how much it would cost so she ok'd it. The receipt did not itemize the cost. I got an estimate from another plumber who was at the house for other work and he told me it was a $150 job, which is around what I thought it should have cost... $250 at the most. He was here about 3 hours.. so he must be charging around $175/hr. When I called to ask the person I spoke with became defensive. I just wanted to them to justify the cost to me. Here are some of his statements to me in a defensive tone: "YOU called us to do a job" "YOU call us at 5pm on a Friday to question us on a job done a week ago?" It was 4:10pm. "It's easy to second guess a job after it's done" He said he would have the tech call me.. that has happened either. At this point I don't want to speak with him if the office staff is any indication of how they speak to customers that question them. I think what set him off was when I asked him if they were a licensed pool contract plumber. I didn't know there was a difference in plumbers until I spoke with another plumber. Apparently there is. He didn't answer my question.. just got defensive. Bottom Line: leak is fixed; cost wwwwaaaayyy more than it should have, and be there to question the estimate. UPDATE: less than 2 weeks after the job was completed it is now leaking at one of the joints in the PVC pipe he replaced. Sheez! Avoid this company!! UPDATE #2: Chuck called me after reading my update and said they'd be happy to come back out and address the issue above. I hadn't called them to tell them about the issue before my update, so he wasn't aware there was a problem. The person I spoke with in the office to tell me they were on their way to fix it was very professional (I must have caught someone on a bad day when I first called). Mike came out and fixed the problem, was very professional and explained to me what happened. He also explained that their pricing is by job and includes a 2 year warranty. So if the job took longer to complete or they have to come back out we wouldn't be charged for those hours. In the end, it was more than I expected to pay but I'm satisfied with the work and understand why they may cost a little more than others.
Description of Work: Replaced 2" pvc pipe from pump outlet to filter inlet on pool system... 3 elbows and about 3ft of pipe. All external... i.e. easy to get to.
