I called for an estimate, they came out the same day I called for the estimate. The employee was very knowledgeable and available for any questions after they left. After getting an estimate from a 2nd company, I decided to use Caldeco. The work was done the next week in one day. The employees were on time, courteous and cleaned up. I am very happy with my decision to use Caldeco and would recommend them.

I've used them 3 or 4 times over the last 2 or 3 years. I was very pleased with the service I got. John even came out one time and didn't even charge me. I appreciated that and for that kind of loyalty I would stay with them. They are not the cheapest but when they throw in a freebie here and there it averages out. I will absolutely continue to use them.

Were not sure we were given a correct diagnosis of the problem.
Description of Work: recently had a service call because our AC was taking longer than usual to cool down house wheh we returned home from work. We were told that approx 1/3 of our coils were blocked and we needed a new set of coils. The unit was only about 5 yrs old so we called another company to come out and give a second opinion. The second opinion was that our system was a little low on freon and that the coils were fine.

Response from Caldeco Air Conditioning & Heating
Member, first and foremost, I want to thank you for bringing this to our attention. Based on my review of the paperwork and the information available to me, I agree with our technician’s conclusion to replace the coil. My technician stated that the refrigerant was not circulating throughout the entire coil. This is caused by a restriction. Most inexperienced HVAC Technicians would add refrigerant to increase the pressure, but this will not solve the problem. When the outdoor temperature reaches the 90’s again, you will see that your system will not keep up with the demand. Restrictions in the indoor coil are diagnosed by performing a freeze test. This test is performed by operating the system in the cooling mode with the indoor fan off. A thin layer of ice should form evenly throughout the entire surface of the coil. If ice/frost does not form on a section of the coil, it’s because there is no refrigerant reaching that section. This test was performed, the coil has a restriction and the best remedy is to replace the coil. If the system was low on refrigerant, that would indicate a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant is not a product that gets consumed upon use. If a system is low on refrigerant it is only because it leaked out. In my opinion, if the company felt that the system was just low on refrigerant, then they should have gone a step further to find where it leaked out. Chances are, they would not have found a leak. If I felt that we made a mistake, I would have responded with my deepest apologies and refunded your money 100%. I will still refund your money if that is what you want or my technician can make another trip to your home free of charge and show you the restriction.

This is a terrific company. We had found them previously on Angies list when our air conditioner crashed. On this occasion it was our heating. The technician wase very professional and courteous. They felt that some of the problems could possibly have been caught on the prior visit and did not charge us on this occasion because they stand behind their work. I will absolutely use them again. I give them an A+ in all categories. Its a nice feeling when you work with honest people

Prompt service- they arrived within 3 hours of initial call. I was delighted the repairperson was not a saleperson, he did not try to pressure me into service agreements or other items. He did offer tips on how to keep the system running smoothly. He arrived with all the tools and parts he needed and got the job done efficiently.

it was a Saturday and I was desperate, my newly installed a/c was not working and the company who installed it disappeared from the face of the earth. They were very polite and said they were sending me an experienced technician on Monday morn at 8.30am. Tech was super-punctual. He said that the oustide unit was not positioned correctly, he fiddled around a little bit and said that I should have called the installers and use the warranty. Told him that they disappeared but still.. he said that the outside unit was too hot to be checked. that's about it. The next day I had the unit positioned correctly and when it was obvious that the installers would not respond, I called them back. It was about 6.30pm but I was willing to pay afterhour fees as I had 100 deg at home. they had me me call back by the head technician Paul who asked me if I had the unit repositioned because that seemed to be the problem. Yes unit is in correct place now but still no air. Can you come out? "if you want I can come out but I don't think I can help you - you should go to the installers and have them repair it in warranty".... alrighty then.... will go somewhere else.... ****UPDATE**** By the time I spoke to your technician on tues night at 7pm the unit had already been repositioned ? that wasn?t the issue (and by the way, no copper lines had to be cut or lines extended: it had to be moved a few inches to fit exactly in the slot that is on the porch and that has been created specifically for the outside units - I live in a condo, there?s nowhere else to place the outside compressor). When I spoke to your technician Paul I told him that the unit had already been repositioned and it was in the correct slot but the air was still not working and also that I had called the original company several times that day and the day before but it was obvious by then that they were not coming out to fix it, therefore I needed a skilled company to come out and fix my problem although I knew it meant I had to spend more money and my warranty with them was going to be voided. I TOLD HIM ALL THIS. He still declined to come out and see what the problem was. I know I made a mistake by hiring people that were not skilled and believe me, I am VERY upset with them more than I am with you and there will be consequences for them, but your company refused to come out and try to fix the problem, and this is a lack of service that I don?t expect from a company that?s ?leader in the industry? like you say.
Description of Work: checked my outside unit and said that it was not positioned correctly. opened the inside unit and fiddled around. said he couldn't open the outside unit because it was too hot. charged me $89.00

Response from Caldeco Air Conditioning & Heating
I understand that you are upset. You seem to be more upset with Caldeco who came and checked out your system and only charged you $89 than you are with the company that charged you thousands and performed a poor installation. The problem was that the air flow to the condenser coil was blocked causing the unit to over heat. This is more than just a matter of moving the unit. The unit would have to be pumped down, the copper lines cut and extended and also the electrical would have to be extended. This is not a job that we would normally do after hours with our service department. Our reason for recommending that you call the installing contractor was because we didn’t want to void your warranty with that company. Let’s be honest here; you hired a contractor who probably did not have a license. I checked with the City of Tampa and he did not pull a permit. So there was no inspection You are an Angie’s List customer and you should know better. We work very had to maintain an excellent reputation is our community as a leader in the HVAC Service and Replacement industry and I find your report of my company very offensive; especially when you created the whole problem by hiring an unlicensed contractor. Just the fact that there was not a permit pulled on the job is reason enough for us recommending that you call the original contractor back. I have instructed my people to refund you your $89 and wish you the best. Rick Caldevilla, President

As a result of having a french drain installed to take care of the wet ground around my air conditioning drain, I was unable to unclog the drain which resulted in water leaking all around my air conditioner. Jack, the technician, was prompt, professional and courteous. He cut my drain lines and did necessary repairs so I can more easily maintain my drain lines and keep the lines unclogged. He then check my air conditioning system and applied my Angies List coupon against the charges. I like the fact that they have regular Saturday hours so you do not have to pay overtime charges. They do have a flat fee for coming out which initially concerned me; but, in the end, I was ok with the price for the work done.
Description of Work: The technician cut my outside drain line which was connected to a french drain and put in a join so I can keep the line suctioned out. He also put a joint in the inside so I can better maintain the unit. He then ran a system diagnostic.

Caldeco showed up on time, worked quickly and explained to me what he was doing. The technician recommended adding 2 lbs of freon which he did. I was very satified until that evening when my house seemed to get hotter. The thermostat was not able to reach the set temp of 76, The temp was 78-79.5. It did go down at night though. A few days later Caldeco came out and rechecked everything. Just that day the thermostat was reaching 77 during the day but still not the target temp. The new tech rechecked everything including changing out the filter. Everything seems to be working now. No charge for the follow up.

Ryan showed up on time. Overall, I didn't get the feeling that he had that much experience in configuring replacement A/C. He did mention he recently did move from an installers position to a sales position withing the company. The price he quoted was for a 3.5 ton system after I told him the back room wasn't cooling sufficiently. The two other companies that provided estimates recommend a 4 ton system plus a new additional air return near the back of the house. Ryan only suggested increasing the existing air return by a few inches. I contracted with another company that did install the new air return and that improved the cooling in the back of the house tremendously. Ryan suggested adding five new supply vents to the back of the house instead of the new air return. I explained that the roof was flat with little to no access to install new supply vents. He said they would have to tear out the ceiling to install the new vents and it would be up to me to find and pay for somebody to do the finishing work. I was quoted $8,200 for a new Carrier split heat pump system PLUS $1,129 for the new vents in the back of the house PLUS the cost of having someone to complete the finishing work. I went with Lloyd's heating and Cooling for $5,200 which included the price for a an new air return in the back of the house and am happy with the result. In my opinion, Caldeco is WAY over priced and overlooked a simple and less costly solution.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate to replace existing split heat pump system. I would rate them overall a 'C' minus if that was an option.

The A/C was leaking so we turned the air off. We could not get the air to kick back on so we called to get a cleaning and see what may be the issue. The tech showed up exactly on time, got right to work cleaning the inside unit. He then went in and out taking his shoes off when he came in from the outside. Once the drain line was cleaned the air came right on. He was only here an hour and exceeded my expectation. I have never had such a pleasant home repair experience.Over all this experience was FANTASTIC.

They repaired another unit, they came back for a warranty check and they tried to charge us two hundred dollars for that. The lead sales man took the charge off though. But we talked to the owners and they weren't happy about that. I had them do a vacant unit, I warned them about a bunch of dead wires that'd be hanging around. I told them to have somebody who knew what they were doing to go fix them. It was six hundred and sixty four dollars but they left the wires there. They still haven't gone and fixed that even though that was the reason they were supposed to go down there.

UNFORTUNATELY WHEN THERE ARE THREE PARTIES INVOLVED (REAL ESTATE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY, OUT OF TOWN HOMEOWNER AND CONTRACTOR) THERE ARE MISCOMMUNICATIONS AND SOMETIMES CONFUSION. YOUR COMMENTS ABOVE REFER TO REPAIRS AT THREE SEPARATE RENTAL PROPERTIES. CALDECO REPLACED A BROKEN THERMOSTAT ($235.00) AT YOUR ULMERTON ROAD PROPERTY TO GET THE SYSTEM OPERATING AGAIN AND INFORMED YOU (THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY) THAT THE AFOREMENTIONED WIRES WERE NOT RELATED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING. THE $664.00 REPAIR CHARGE WAS AT THE COREY LAKE PROPERTY AND INCLUDED DIAGNOSING AND FINDING A REFRIGERANT LEAK MAKING THE REPAIR AND CHARGING THE SYSTEM WITH REFRIGERANT AND STARTING THE SYSTEM UP AGAIN. LASTLY, IN FEBRUARY CALDECO REPLACED A 10+ YEAR OLD 3 TON CONDENSING UNIT WITH A NEW 3 TON CONDENSING UNIT AT YOUR MORNING MIST PROPERTY AND THE TOTAL INSTALLATION COST WAS $1,793.00. WE RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE WHOLE SYSTEM DUE TO THE AGE BUT WERE TOLD THE HOME OWNER WANTED TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER ONLY. THE OUTSTANDING $208.00 SERVICE CHARGE IN QUESTION ALSO AT THE MORNING MIST PROPERTY WAS GENERATED BY THE PROPERTY OWNER FOR ‘SYSTEM NOT COOLING’. WE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL SCHEDULED VISITS FOR THE REPAIR AND NO ONE WAS HOME. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO YOUR TENANT OUR SERVICE TECHNICIAN FINALLY WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND AN IMPROPERLY INSTALLED DRAIN LINE AND MADE THE REPAIR. THIS WAS AN EXISTING DRAIN LINE AND THE REPAIR WAS UNRELATED TO THE FEBRUARY INSTALLATION. THE TOTAL COST INCLUDING THE UNPAID BALANCE OF $208.00 IS $2,692.00. HOPEFULLY THESE FACTS WILL HELP YOUR ACCOUNTANT GET THE RIGHT CHARGES TO THE CORRECT PROPERTY ACCOUNTS. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDING DUE TO MISCOMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE HOMEOWNER, CALDECO AND YOU THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY.
