The Caldeco installation crew led by Alex Myers (super guy) arrived on time and ready to perform the requested installation. The crew was VERY knowledgeable and performed the work with a high degree of competency. I would HIGHLY recommend Caldeco for all of my heating and air conditioning work.
Description of Work: Caldeco Air Conditioning and Heating provided an on-site cost estimate for the replacement of a Carrier Single Package Heat Pump Air Source unit along with a programmable thermostat. The cost estimate provided was extremely fair and knocked their competition immediately out of the running. The estimate provided realized a <+ 20% cost savings for my family.

The entire process was professional and friendly. The technicians were on time, knowledgeable, efficient, detailed oriented, readily answered questions, seamed eager to please and cleaned up before leaving the house. When the downstairs A/C went out the next year in June of 2012,we called Caldeco A/C and again were very please with the install and the staff and technicians, who worked with us. |When in July of 2012, we were looking for possibility of mold in the house,Caldeco's owner, Rick Caldevilla, himself came to the house to inspect both A/C systems, which included the duct work. He gave us helpful suggestions on air venting and keeping odors outside. His visit and time spent was above and beyond what we expected. We will definitely call Caldeco for yearly A/C checks.
Description of Work: After researching A/C companies I selected Caldeco Air Conditioning to install an A/C in our home in on the second floor in June of 2011.

I have been using their services for a couple of years since they installed my unit. They are a very honest, local company. Their prices are in line with everyone else, so I stick with choosing them for all of of my service needs

Jack the repairman was there when I got to my house. He was friendly and went right to work. He did extensive work to the unit inside and out and got the AC unit running within minutes. I had this problem 3 months prior and hired this company at that time. They had my history and Jack knew what had been done previously. There was no charge for his service or trip. This company is reliable, responsive, and excellent in every way. I will always use them with my AC needs.

They completed the installation of the new system in one day. Their technicians which are factory trained work together so efficiently, and their Sales Representative, Ryan, was also here throughout the day to make sure that everything went smoothly. They arrived on time and all of them were so courteous and polite and did a fantastic job. I can say the same for their office staff as well. I could not be more pleased with my choice of HVAC companies and I would use them again and highly recommend them to my friends and family.

Service provided was excellent. Called about 8:00 AM that my AC unit had frozen up. It was a block of ice. A Caldeco technician responded within an hour. Thoroughly investigated the possible causes of the freezing. Determined it was a coolant leak in the coil. Requisitioned a new coil and removed and replaced the old one within a couple of hours. The tech was professional and friendly and also provided tips on some things I was doing wrong that could have led to the failure of the coil. Overall I was very happy with the service and will definitely use Caldeco for my future needs (service or maintenance).

Installation was performed on time and by courteous and efficient staff. There was a scheduling mix-up for a follow-up inspection and adjustment but eventual resolution was satisfactory. My only reservation is that the job seemed pricey but my circumstances prevented me from doing my own due diligence in the form of getting several other estimates.

When our A/C went out in January, it was no surprise. All of our neighbors had replaced their units over the past few years so we knew we were due. We called 3 A/C companies to get quotes on what we needed and ended up going with Caldeco. The Caldeco guy was good, calculating the size unit we needed based on windows, square footage and our 2 story, 2 zone home. He advised replacing the A/C unit & gas heater with a heat pump, but as we rarely use the heater in FL, we declined as it would have been a bigger bill and the heater just didn't have the hours on it that the A/C unit did. Because we opted to keep the heater, we replaced and updated the A/C unit with another Carrier A/C. Thankfully technology allowed us to update our system without replacing pipes (due to the new coolant system used). Very nice. Installation was quick--a half day. Caldeco was prompt, nice & efficient. The new unit is quieter, but hums at a lower frequency --and is right outside our bedroom. If we had to do it over again, we would have discussed the option for a quieter unit as this one sometimes bothers our sleeping. Caldeco has come out to see if they can muffle it, but there aren't many options for the unit we selected. Something to keep in mind for others considering a new A/C unit.

Two technicians, Patrick and Jerald from Caldeco arrived at the house around 8:30 on April 16 to begin removing our 40 year old HVAC duct board. After introducing themselves to us, they put on protective booties and came inside and closed all the air register grills to prevent debris and attic insulation from coming into the home. I warned them to be careful of an exposed ice maker line and the plumbing supply piping that was running through the attic and they said that they would. They explained what they would be doing and asked us if we had any questions to please ask them and they would be happy to explain. They then immediately got to work working in the attic removing the old duct work and supply lines. They told me that there were a lot of areas where the air had been leaking out into the attic and we agreed that that was probably why our energy bill from TECO had not dropped even after installing new energy efficient windows and doors earlier in the year. Since I have a Hip style roof, these guys didn't have a lot of room to get around. That process took about half the day. They broke for lunch and returned shortly thereafter. They then began to prepare the new register boxes in the garage where it was much cooler and then began to lay some of the new flex lines in the attic. That completed the last half of the day. It was in the upper 80's most of the day. The next day was forecast to be upper 80's and lower 90's. I felt for these guys. Some really tight areas to work in, hot and lots of insulation to wade through! Since this was an agreed "three day" replacement operation, my wife and I were prepared for two nights of having no A/C and suprisingly, with the help of fans, we were able to sleep relatively comfortably during the first night. The following day, Patrick and Jerald came out to continue installing the register boxes and the new "properly sized" flex duct lines that were engineered from the Manual J software program that Caldeco utilizes based on what their representative, Pepy Flores had created based on his first visit when he measured each room, factoring in the exposure from the sun and its angles and measuring each of the window and doors. I told the technicians where I wanted the supply and return flex ducts run to allow me to have some storage room in the attic as the old duct board was run right down the middle of the attic which precluded me from using much of the highest clearance areas in the attic for storage of my seasonal decorations and luggage. They said that would not be a problem and if they needed additional area, they would run those lines away from the area I needed for storage. They were all day in and out of the attic running additional supply flex lines and register boxes. After they construct each new register box they apply a silver HVAC duct tape to all the corners and seams and then they seal the entire box edges where air could leak with a gray mastic specially formulated and required by Hillsborough County Code to seal the system and prevent any air leaks in the future. This mastic stuff goes on with a brush as it has the consistency of peanut butter, but hardens up to provide an impenetrable seal which allows the register boxes, mixing boxes, air plenums and flex line connections to be assured of a no leak seal. Each flex supply line has an inner plastic (coiled aluminum reinforcement to allow the flex duct to keep its circular shape) that is installed at each connection point, sealed with a very high quality two inch HVAC duct tape, then the outer foil insulated liner is installed, zipped tied and taped again at the connection point and then mastic is applied to that outer connection. Essentially providing a leak free connection. By the end of the day all the supply lines were connected and Patrick told us we could utilize the A/C that evening as everything that related to the supply lines were connected. We told him we were prepared to sleep another night without A/C and, if needed, not to worry about trying to get us A/C for the night as we did not want them to take any shortcuts. Patrick said that all of the supply lines were connected and masticed and that they would return the following day to install the return air flex duct lines and the five registers to comply with Hillsborough County Codes for the necessary return air runs from each bedroom. They opened the register grills for us, told us we might get a few pieces of insulation blowing through during the night as some may have been trapped within the lines during the installation. We slept comfortably that night with air! A bonus for their getting the supply lines and boxes installed on day two. The final day, in the low 90's today, Patrick and Jerald returned promptly at 8:30 and began working on cutting holes in the ceilings for the return air duct register boxes and a return air central collection point near the air handler in the hallway. They installed new white grills on all of the registers throughout the house, including the bottom of the air handler plenum. They masticed the air handler plenum supply and return (above and below) to prevent warm air from entering and cool air from escaping. They hung all the flex duct lines from the rafters in the attic which not only is required by Hillsborough County Code but allows the ducts to hang freely to avoid kinks or air flow restrictions. They also allow me as the homeowner to get around up in the attic should I ever need to! Once they completed the job, I went into the attic to check their work. They said I was the first homeowner to want to go up into a hot attic to inspect. I told them, that is the only way I'll know if the work is properly done as I do have limited HVAC duct work experience. The work looked great! Nice job on mastic applications around all the joints and seals! Not easy to do! I checked the air handler duct board and plenum return duct board installation for good seal and everything was masticed well! The new white register grills look so much better than the old steel ones we used to have. Pepy Flores came by to check on the technicians each day and to ask us if we had any additonal questions. I must have emailed Pepy at least 12 times since the day we met with questions and request for more information and each time he promptly replied to each and every request! During the install, on occasion, when an item or two was needed that was not on the truck, the call was put out to the home office in Tampa and shortly thereafter another truck showed up with what was needed. Patrick and Jerald never missed a beat. After the job was completed, Pepy and the team let us know that if we needed any of the dampeners in the system (they are located in the attic on the mixing boxes for each supply run) tweaked to allow more or less air into the home based on our comfort requirements to just call them up and they ( Caldeco) would be happy to have someone come out and adjust them for us! They even said that should we ever have any other work done in the attic which might involve the possibility of having another company like plumbers or electricians require access and IF any ducts were in the way, they would rather have us call Caldeco to have the ducts temporarily disconnected to allow the work to be performed by the contractors and then they would come back out to reconnect the duct work. Also, if we needed a larger supply than was called for in the Manual J or just because we did not feel as if adequate air supply was beiing supplied to the room after opening the dampeners fully, that they would install a larger size flex duct if it was needed! What other company do you know that would work so very hard to ensure that their only mission throughout this experience was for us to be comfortable and happy with the work? You can count on Caldeco Air Conditoning and Heating to do a professional job with well trained team members who have a long history of employment with an outstanding company! Thank you Caldeco! You are highly recommended to anyone needing comprehensive A/C work performed like us! We are very comfortable and very happy with the way EVERY aspect of the job turned out!
Description of Work: I contacted Caldeco by phone after being refered by my A/C repairman, D. Woodall, Inc. of the last 30 years as it was too large of a job for just he and his assistant. I called to inquire about having my 40 year old ductwork replaced. Caldeco offered free estimates. I had a representative from their company show up promptly the same day I called and promptly at the appointed time. His name was Pepy Flores. He immediately introduced himself and handed me a business card and then showed me his ID which was hanging from his neck. He immediately went to work on estimating my needs after asking me some preliminary questions with regard to the comfort levels we were experiencing in the home. He had a preliminary drawing derived from the property records to indicate the layout of my exterior walls. He first wanted to see what unit I was using to supply A/C to the home. He made some notations and then he asked politely if he could enter my home to see the air handler and begin taking measurements of the rooms so as to enter the data into Caldeco's system software to better evaluate the duct sizing and airflow calculations necessary to provide me with the most efficient and effective duct system and to provide me with a proposal which would include everything necessary to do just that! I introduced him to my wife and then showed him into each room where he measured EVERY wall, not just width and length of the rooms. He measured each register and every window. EVERYTIME he laid his clipboard down on some piece of furniture to utilize his measuring tape, you would have thought he was laying it down on your most valued possesion! He then asked to go into the attic and look at the existing duct work. Now, I have a home with an air handler that is some 40 feet away from the attic access in the garage. Pepy went up into the attic and I told Pepy where I wanted the new duct work to go as I did not want it down the middle of the ridgeline as I wanted to utilize that area for future storage. I watched him as he crawled the the ENTIRE 40 feet so as to observe the system connections and branches from the air handler supply plenum. I know that my handler is relatively easy to access from the attic. However, the resulting duct work that branches off of it are difficult to see, let alone get access to. No other company that came out (and I had three other major A/C companies in the Tampa Bay Area) crawled the 40 feet to see the air handler and the existing duct work branch layout. I knew enough from crawling through my own attic and realized that this job would be an undertaking by any company. Thankfully, I had the professionals from Caldeco come to my home first and evaluate my needs. This allowed me to "weed out the rest" as they each came out, stuck their heads into the attic and took a few pictures from nearby the attic access and then looked at my unit and each room's register layout. No measuring room sizes, just noting register sizes, window locations and drafting a rough drawing of my home's interior on the backside of a folder. I told each company I wanted the job done right and I wanted a permit pulled and the job to be up to Hillsborough County Code. Caldeco said that each bedroom required a separate return air supply which meant installing another register and return line from each room back to the unit. A cheaper way was to cut pass-through's above each bedroom door with a grill on either side. Not for me. No drywall mess or privacy issues for my guests needed nor wanted. It was offered as an alternative, but we had that in our old house with the same comfort level problems. I questioned Pepy as to whether it was required on "exisiting structures" by Code and he assured me it was. Later, Pepy emailed me documentation when asked, proving same. Two of the three companies didn't even mention the return air requirements. They would have been happy to just replace the existing duct work with what was peviously installed. I guess they, (and myself) might have been surprised if the Inspector red tagged the job for not having the required returns. Some might say that returns aren't all that necessary. I would simply state that initially I wanted a separate duct just for my master bedroom to alleviate opposing temperature variations and Caldeco was the only company that stated that they the use of returns from the bedrooms would be the most efficient use of my system and would alleviate hot and cold issues within all the rooms. I could have gotten the job done with any of the three other companies for a lot less money! However, I found out a long time ago that you get what you pay for. Caldeco was professional, clean, neat, and very well informed from the beginning. I was leaning towards Caldeco as my chosen company even BEFORE I met or received the three other company bids or met their representatives because of my first impression with Pepy. These guys rock! After Pepy answerd ALL my questions, and I had plenty, I called the owner of Caldeco, Rick Caldevilla and told him he had a top notch outfit and a valuable employee with Pepy Flores. He thanked me and said that I had made his weekend with my comments. I assured Rick that I would give his company, Caldeco Air, a glowing review whether or not I hired them as my installer. I have emailed Pepy at least 7 or 8 times since he left with questions and each time he has replied with complete and honest input. I am totally satisfied with Caldeco thus far! I intend to review the installation when we have it done next month in April. I'm pretty sure that with what I have experienced thus far, I and my wife are sure to be pleased not only with the installation, but with the energy savings and comfort levels we will be enjoying for many years! My initial contact with Caldeco was on on March 17, 2013. In this review I reference the professional way in which Rick Caldevilla, Owner of Caldeco Air Conditioning & Heating and his team operate. The below review will focus on the actual work perfomed, which was to remove and replace the existing 40 year old duct board and install an engineered and energy efficient HVAC flex-duct system which would allow us even temperatures throughout the house, provide us with more energy savings, improve our overall comfort levels and bring us up to Code with regards to energy efficient insulated air supply lines.

Thank you for the opportunity. In today’s air conditioning world to install a single system component the system must be properly matched and have a AHRI 13 SEER rating to be a legal installation, which also requires a Mechanical Permit from the City of Tampa. By looking at the condenser installed we noted it is not properly matched nor was there a City of Tampa Mechanical Permit issued for the installation which results in no Mechanical Inspection for Consumer Protection. When a licensed or unlicensed contractor takes this route to do an illegal installation it certainly makes it easy to offer a lower price.

John was on time and went right to work. He figured out the problem and gave an estimate of the repair. Repairs were done in less time than anticipated. Everything John needed was on the truck. He doubled checked the entire system before he left.
Description of Work: John was able to do a difficult repair job quickly and well. He was pleasant and easy to have around. I am very happy with Caldeco and recommend them highly.

They were great. See story above as to what happened.
Description of Work: A part went out on my AC that had been put in back in August 2007; I had no AC. I couldn't get the company who had installed the AC to respond to my request for service so I called Caldeco. They came out promptly and told me what the problem was. I knew when the new AC had been installed, however, according to the serial number on the part, it had been manufactured earlier and therefore the manufacturer's warranty had expired. However, if I could provide Caldeco with proof of the date of installation (they were willing to accept a cancelled check), they would honor the warranty. I couldn't wait until the bank came up with a copy of the cancelled check so I had them do the repair and I paid the full price. When I got a copy of the cancelled check from the bank, they submitted a claim to the manufacturer and issued me a check for the cost of the part once they were reimbursed by the manufacturer.
