I called this company after doing research on Angie's List. I spoke to the receptionist regarding my problem with moisture/water leaking in through foundation and damaging my hardwood floors. She transferred me to her project manager's voicemail. I left a message for this project manager, but never heard back from her. Since I didn't hear back from her, I had to call Bracken again, this time I got through to the project manager. I explained to her my problem, but she was not very patient in explaining how the process would work, what her company would be doing, etc. All she stated was, " it will be around $2200-2500 for us to come out to take a look at it". I then called another structural engineering firm(also from angie's list), they were so much better, they explain what they would be doing when they come out to the house. I was on the phone with them for about 25 minutes and made an appointment for them to come out.
Description of Work: I have water leaking in from outside of the house, damaging my newly installed hardwood floors.

Steve called 15mns prior to say he would be 5-10mns late to his appointment. I really appreciated the call considering most people would not even do so for just 5-10mns delay. I thought it showed punctuality and professionalism. Then he also showed the extent of knowledge in identifying a complicated case of the slab getting humid from under. He concluded to a broken french drain which is not efficient enough as well as sliding door track which accumulates water from under and get it in the slab.
Description of Work: Bracken Engineering was the firm chosen by Homewise Insurance adjuster to evaluate the water/humidity issue I have in my house. My brand new laminate floor in the living room is expanding and waving showing humidity issue. Bracken Eng. was to evaluate and find the root cause of the humidity problem.

THEY SHOWED UP WHEN SCHEDULED AND PROVIDED TIMELY REPORTS. THEY DID EVERYTHING NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE.
Description of Work: MONITORED AND REPORTED ON REPAIRS MADE TO STABILIZE OUR HOUSE DUE TO A SINKING HOME.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS COMPANY DID WHAT THEY DID; PERHAPS THEY WERE TOO BUSY FOR A PROJECT LIKE OURS AFTER THE HURRICANES. WHAT BOTHERED ME THE MOST WAS THAT NO EXPLANATION WAS OFFERED FOR THIS HUGE INCREASE WHEN THE ESTIMATE WAS RE SUBMITTED TO US IN OCTOBER AND NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION WAS EVER OFFERED. THE COMPANY'S ONLY RESPONSE WAS TO FED EX ME A LETTER RETRACTING ANY OFFERS TO DO BUSINESS WITH US!
Description of Work: AN ESTIMATE WAS GIVEN FOR WORK AT OUR CONDO IN JULY OF 2004. THIS WAS FOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SERVICES. I DECLINED THE SERVICE IN JULY, BUT IN OCTOBER, BECAME RE-INTERESTED IN WHAT THIS COMPANY WAS OFFERING. I ASKED FOR AN UPDATED ESTIMATE IN LATE OCTOBER. THE PROPOSAL WAS VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED BUT WAS INCREASED FROM $13,400 TO OVER $23,000.00! NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION WAS EVER GIVEN.

Response from Bracken Engineering
In response I wish to point out that the second proposal did include increases resulting from a change in the way that our business estimates these types of projects. Specifically, the change in proposal methodology resulted from our goal to include project management and administration cost within the initial lump sum cost as apposed to billing on a time and materials basis as the project progresses. In addition, the second proposal did include services beyond hose previously contemplated as well as increases resulting from the increasing cost of doing business such as fuel and insurance. While both estimates were provided in good faith and with the desire to provide the services outlines, in light of [member email], Bracken Engineering hereby withdraws all offers and/or proposals to provide service.
