We are looking to do quite a bit of alterations to our landscaping. Our contractor gave us ideas and brought over stone samples but we wanted to see a bigger selection. We stopped at a couple of places that just didn't win us over. We got to Big Earth 30 minutes before they closed for the day and were actually greeted by one of the employees as we were getting out of the car. He had been obviously working in the yard and took the time to see if he could help us. What a shock. That type of service is only a thing of the past. For a deeper explanation and assistance, he introduced us to the manager, Matt. Matt explained in greater detail the pros and cons of different types of stone and the costs associated with each and then walked the yard with us in case we had additional questions. Because the shop was closing in 30 minutes when we arrived, I was concerned that we would be rushed. At NO time did that happen. Another big surprise and thing that only happened in the past. Once we nail down the work to be done, we would be foolish not to use Big Earth.
Description of Work: Big Earth has the know how and the goods. Maybe more importantly, they have the knowledgeable AND friendly staff.

My experience was horrible and I believe they acted fraudulently and unprofessionally, failing to respond to my efforts to resolve the matter and instead charging my credit card without authorization. The planning process went well and the project started off relatively efficiently. I felt like we were in good hands. I then got an email and a call a couple days into the project saying that they were done and thanked me for my business. As it turns out they felt they had finished the job, left the site, and charged my card without my review of the project or authorization to charge my credit card. I notified the company immediately of my concerns and rain within the next two days confirmed the disaster. The fields had been stripped instead of tilled. Mounding piles of dirt, roots and debris had been left strewn all around the fields. The fields were now below the surrounding grade and more puddles were in the fields than before. The fields were the farthest thing from level and certainly not crowned. All the grass seed that had been planted was washed into the puddles. Roots and sticks remained in all the fields. The parking area was barely changed and I was billed for materials that were not used or substantiated by receipts or mathematical calculations. Over a 1/3 of the dirt was still left in the back. The asphalt millings were so poorly contaminated in the dirt that the entrances were still impassable. The asphalt millings in the loop were too thinly spread to resist scaling. Extra millings were left deposited in the grass. I was firm and clear that the project wasn't done and that I was not authorizing payment at that time. I met with them and emailed them without effect. Additional sod and landscape experts were then brought in to independently evaluate and confirm all that was stated above. Because of the destruction Big Earth Landscape caused to my property my project was delayed in excess of 6 months and cost over $23,000 to simply restore to the closest semblance of the original condition. The property will never be the samee.
Description of Work: I was looking for landscape supplies when I met the staff at Big Earth Landscape Supply and was specifically looking to install sod. I told them about my project said they could do the job described and that preparing the ground and planting seed would be a better and more economical option. After much dialogue back and forth we agreed on a plan for them to till several recreation fields, fill in low-lying craters, crown the fields to drain, and plant grass seed. They were to also move some dirt, raise and level a parking area, install and spread asphalt millings to create two entrances and a driveway-type loop.

Response from Big Earth Landscape Supply
I am in receipt of and have reviewed the complaint submitted to Angie’s List by [member name removed], with respect to a credit card payment to Big Earth landscape Supply, Inc. (“Big Earth”). Please be advised that Big Earth was retained to provide labor and materials to real property owned by Aim Industries, LLC. The scope of the labor and materials to be provided was contained in a written quotation provided to the owner. A review of the scope of work reveals, importantly, that drainage was not part of the work to be provided by Big Earth. More specifically, the owner indicated an intent to utilize the property for a paintball business and was requesting that Big Earth level, grade, and seed three fields in order to be used for that purpose. The owner also conveyed that minimizing cost was paramount. The property itself is designated as lowlands by the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser and the owner had experienced flooding problems in the past. Big Earth was crystal clear with the owner that it was not being retained to resolve or correct flooding issues but, instead, to level, grade, and seed the designated fields, as well as provide fill materials to the drives. It appears that the owner is no unhappy with the fact that the property continues to drain in the same manner as it did prior to the leveling, grading, and seeding of the fields, and filling of the drives. However, again, drainage was not within the scope of Big Earth’s work. In accordance with its scope of work, Big Earth provided 23 truckloads of fill dirt to the property. Additionally, it provided 58.13 tons of crushed asphalt in the drives on the property. The owner contested the credit card charge for the work and materials after the fields flooded from heavy rains. Ironically, in that process the owner raised a variety of complaints that differ substantially from those of which it now complaints. It appears that the owner will say or do anything to disparage Big Earth, regardless of any factual support. Big Earth strives to provide superior customer service and quality materials and work to its customers. It is regrettable that the owner has drainage issues with respect to the property, but there is no question that Big Earth fully performed all work and provided materials as set forth in its contract. Big Earth cannot be responsible for conditions which previously existed on the property, and which it was not retained to address.

It's been a few years ago and I wanted to write a review then. Better late than never. We were having a large shed built in our backyard and needed some crushed shell to use as a base for the Tuff Shed guys to build upon. The people that we dealt with at Big Earth were super friendly and very accommodating. They answered all of the questions that we had. Even the guys that came out to deliver the shell were very knowledgeable when we had further questions for them. Very, very pleased. In fact, we are having some construction done now and when that is completed---I plan on calling Big Earth to deliver some dirt so I can do some landscaping. Very pleased with the price and the service. Good, honest people. I estimated the date of service because I could not remember the exact date.

We needed to add more top soil to a section of our back yard and remulch all beds. (It is a sizable back yard). We called the company and asked them to come out and give us an estimate for the work. On the next day Matt came over and took the measures and that evening he e-mailed us a proposals. We budgeted for a bit less then what the proposal called for, but Matt was willing to work with us and we came to a mutual agreement. From the day Matt arrived to give the estimate to the day the actual work has been performed, the staff of the company presented themselves in the most professional and courteous manner. All communications were promptly addressed and all visits were on time. In addition, after completing the work they cleaned up the entire area and left NO mess whatsoever. We highly recommend this company for any type of landscaping needs. We definitely will be using Big Earth in the future. Thank you guys for an excellent service.
