I’ve used pool troopers for years and they have done an ok job. This past week however, my pool turned green I’ve been calling every day since Monday to get them out to the house and they keep saying they’re busy but will get to it as soon as possible. It’s been 4 days with no one showing up. We had company in town and no one was able to swim because of the poor response from pool troopers. I will be finding a new provider. Be careful hiring them as they are not very responsive.

Excellent service!! I want to express my sincere appreciation to the staff of Pool Troopers (Bay Area Pools) for providing consistently excellent service to me and my family for over the past twenty years. Our pool is the center of our universe in the summer and it is a great feeling to know that it is always beautiful and ready for us to have fun! As an owner of an outdoor pool in Florida, I know that it offers it's own set of special challenges. I cannot recall one instance where their service team has ever let us down. Whenever a problem occurs, such as an algae surprise, I know with confidence that the solution is just a phone call away! We are proud to be a loyal customer and have always told everyone we know how good a job you are doing for us. Thank you!! Clay Smith Seminole, FL

I’m tired of people going to social media for negative only. Today I will use it to thank all the wonder business partners I use to help maintain my home and personal life. Bay Area Pools or Pool Troopers has taken care my pool, my friends and family’s pools for over 20 years. Their technicians are fast and friendly and maintain a beautiful crystal clear pool year round. With their new communication system, I’m notified when the services have been completed and if their is any problems that need to be addressed. They still leave the traditional note if necessary. They send emails with discounts for the suggested maintenance services. This makes it more appealing to call and request the service. Customer service and billing team, also outstanding. With out fail every time my credit card expires I forget to call for the last 15 years, they call they remind me even if it’s past due they are kind and understanding. When scheduling a service or asking a simple question, they are friendly and make you feeling like they only work for you. This is the only pool service I would recommend.

We have a cage around our pool for security that requires a key for entry into the pool area. I provided a key to the service. On one occasion before we left, the technician came out to the house without the key. Fortunately I was home to let him in. Then, on two separate occasions, he left the key in the cage door after servicing the pool. Finally, I received an email on August 31 that our pool had been serviced earlier that day. However, we were home that day and the pool was, in fact, not serviced that day. While the pool looked fine when we returned home, I would not work with this company again because (1) the technician kept leaving the security key in the door upon leaving for a reason I can only assume was forgetfulness and (2) they said they serviced our pool on a day when I knew they didn't. I should also note that I called the company office a number of times to discuss the issues including the email I received that incorrectly indicated that service had been completed when I knew it hadn't. Frankly, I expected a phone call back from the supervisor but haven't heard anything yet.
Description of Work: My wife and I were planning on a vacation out west from July 15 to August 31 and we wanted to have our in-ground pool maintained (chemistry maintained and the pool regularly cleaned). Pool Troopers was to come out weekly for the chemistry and once each two weeks for the cleaning.

Ms. [Member Name Removed], We are truly sorry that our service did not live up to our stellar 65 year reputation. We strive for excellence whenever we enter a backyard. The keys being left behind is not the "norm" for our techs and supervisors, security is very important to us. We hope that you will try us again in the future, I feel you will see that we try to go the extra Mile for all 13,000 plus clients that we service. Again, we sincerely apologize. We have been pool owners at various residences for 20 years, Bay Area Pool Troopers is the best pool service we have ever hired. We are a military family that was relocated to Tampa, and decided to retire here. We have done business with many pool companies, but none as exemplary as the Pool Troopers. Any time I call the office the person on the other end is very polite and helpful. The communication is excellent, there is never a missed message. We can't say enough about the pool experts that maintain our pool, they are outstanding. My husband and I are fortunate to have the pleasure of working with Richard and Rob from Pool Troopers. They are professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and always happy to answer/explain any questions we have about our pool and chemicals etc. We hired Pool Troopers because we had issues with the quality of work performed by a previous pool company and our new pool surface was acquiring stains. Since switching to Bay Area Pool Troopers we have been impressed with Richard and Rob's outstanding work ethic and consideration they show to us as pool owners. They have gone above and beyond to help us correct the problem with our pool finish. They strive to make sure we are happy customers and we are! We will be spreading the word about this top notch company and its outstanding employees. It is obvious that Richard and Rob take pride in their work and their company. Thank you very much, we appreciate your expertise and willingness to go the extra mile for your customers. Andy and Deb Arace

Many problems with chemistry over the years and very poor cleaning of our pebble tec pool surface. Many complaints to them and countless hours on the phone. Kept trying to give them another chance. The largest problem came when we sold our house. We found out they replaced our salt system with their own and threw ours away. Then Patrick the customer service manager, refused to replace it with another system and demanded their system back. Then called our realtor saying we were avoiding him and trying to sell our house with their system, after I left him several messages with my personal cell number!!! This company and Patrick Krantzberg in particular, cost me many thousands of dollars, then stole our system after all that. Very unprofessional and jeopardized the sale of our house on top of everything. If I had more time I would have called the Sheriff to report a grand theft, but I just want to close on my house at this point. They must be having money issues or definitely management issues at the very least,to treat long term customers like this. I asked Patrick Krantzberg about the fact we were long term customers, he said "that has nothing to do with this". I was amazed at his lack of professionalism.

Some pool owners disregard the techs that provide routine service and preventive measures. I don't! Harry and now Elizabeth have been great. They are responsive and thorough. They call when we are out of town and always seem to anticipate. I would recommend them for service as well as conversion from chlorine to a salt pool. I hope this actually reaches Elizabeth because she deserves recognition! P.S. It was hard to find you on Angies List to make this review? Excellent customer service all around. We are new to the Tampa area and had a number of questions regarding pool service/maintenance. Patrick provided excellent customer service and understood my concerns. Sent supervisor, Paul, out to access the pool and perform a chemical balance. He also walked me through all aspects of my pool. Then Patrick sent out Brandon the next day to perform another cleaning, cleaned filter twice and even vacuumed to waste to ensure a clean pool and equipment. Brandon was excellent and assisted me with hands on system checks. I am completely comfortable with my pool equipment and very appreciative for the patience, time and expertise of the entire team. Thank you and we look forward to enjoying our pool and all that Tampa has to offer!!

For those who only read the first paragraph of reviews, here is what you need to know about BAY AREA POOL SERVICE: DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY. Their Salt Water Generator is of the lowest quality, and will end up costing you thousands of dollars in pool repairs, unclean pools and a lifetime of frustration. Before I hired BAY AREA POOLS, I maintained my own pool for years. I never had a problem doing the cleaning myself. The only issue was my own busy schedule and the desire to enjoy my time in the pool, instead of my time cleaning the pool. I received a mailer from the company with the SALT WATER CHORINATOR and the promise of “They do all the work, and I will have all the fun”. From the very start, I was presented with issues about my pool. It needed this… it needed that… I let them have their way to get everything set up THEIR SPECIFICATIONS…Costing my hundreds of dollars. But even after all the work and setup they did, I was still spending my weekend cleaning my pool. I now had Green algae, yellow algae and the worst BLACK ALGAE in my pool. If you research black algae, you will find out that it’s the hardest to remove from your pool, and only gets into your pool by not maintaining the chemical levels. Bay Area Pools blamed my trees, my deck, my gutters etc. Trusting their advice, I cleaned my gutters, had all my trees cut back, pressure washed and re-stained my deck… costing me hundreds of dollars. My pool kept turning green and unswimable. I work from home and I watched the pool tech walk in my back yard, look at the green pool and drive off. After a year of horrible service with BAY AREA POOL TROOPERS, I was ready to fire them. I first reviewed Bay Area Pools in 2015 after having horrible service, but I was asked by Customer Service Supervisor, Patrick Krantzberg to remove my review with a promise from the company “to make everything right”. I agreed to do and really wished I hadn’t. During the next year, Bay Area Pool service was still consistently underperforming and they blamed my filter (DE Filter) and had me replace it with a cartridge filter. After that didn’t keep my pool from returning to the green-state that it was in, they said my pump was to blame. So, I purchased a top-of-the-line variable speed pump at the cost of $1500. Then they blamed my barracuda cleaner, and recommended that I purchase a pressure-side cleaner. I paid hundreds of dollars for the cleaner, and since I was going from a suction-side cleaner to a pressure-side cleaner, I paid hundreds of more dollars to have my pool line re-plumbed for the new configuration. They were still coming over and dumping so many chemicals into my pool and telling me I could not swim in it for 48 hours which left me a non-swimmable pool over weekends and holidays, where my guests were either greeting with a green pool, or excuses why they could not swim. Their salt water generator is a complete joke, and their pool tech repeatedly told me so. It kept breaking down and leaving my pool green. The salt cell kept dying leaving my pool green. I was not able to use my pool for 9 months out of the year… and I was embarrassed to let any one into my back yard, because of how BAY AREA POOL TROOPERS left my back yard. Their company is unprofessional and unorganized. Their customer service hangsup on you. Their employees don’t communicate with each other. I have finally had enough, I emailed the Customer Service Supervisor the following: “My pool has been green for several months now. I have been spending weekends continuously cleaning filters and scrubbing algae from the size of my pool. I have given you and your company several years to improve your service, but you have failed to show any competency in maintaining my pool. Over last several weeks, I have had visitors come to visit, and my pool has been an embarrassment. My pool has never looked worse then when it was cared for by your company. I have pool stains that were not there before, and it seems that my equipment and pool structure is prematurely aging. I have communicated my dissatisfaction with the pool tech that comes by, and the supervisors that come out when there's a problem. I feel that my communication has been thorough and while I have not actually contacted you personally, I don't think that it is the best use of my time to have to tell 3 to 4 separate people that there's a problem. That information should have been passed on from the people that I've already spoken to. It would be nice if you provided me a refund for last three months, seeing that you did not actually clean my pool during that time. The salt system has failed more times than I can count and never has been able to maintain my pools health. I am not looking for you to correct this problem as I believe your company has proved that is not able to handle the task at hand, and it would be best if we discontinued the service from your company.” I received the following reply: “I have read your complaint. I understand that there have been some issues there. Clearly, you must have a tough pool to contend with – as we manage to keep +12,000 pools blue week to week. I realize your level of confidence is limited at this time, but certainly there is something going on there that is contributing to the issue. I will send this email over the Supervisor, so he sees what you are requesting and why. I’m sorry that things did not go any better.” To this date, Not only have I have not heard about a refund, they keep charging my credit card for services they have not performed. I have since hired a new pool company, and within 24 hours their had my pool back to its previous glory, and over the last few weeks reduced their monthly charge “because my pool is so easy to deal with”.

When I first talked to Samantha on the phone, she assured me that my concerns about my prior pool service would not be a problem and that Dan would be contacting me to set up a time to come out to our home. Dan called and advised me that he was backed up and the soonest he could come out was November 30 and that he would call me ahead of time to make sure I was home. Not having heard anything on the day of the appointment I called the service provider and talked to Samantha who informed me that Dan was not scheduled to come out until the following day. When I asked why I was never told this, Samantha told me that Dan would be in touch with me. He never did call and when Samantha did call back and I explained that I had taken the day off work to meet with Dan, she responded that she didn't understand "why it's a big deal" for me that Dan didn't come out when he was supposed to. She was also unaware that Dan and I had talked directly when he first set up the appointment with me. The company seems unresponsive and inconsiderate of a customer's schedule.

One of the Bay Area Pool Service techs had unknowingly backed into a piece of electrical equipment that was located on my property with a company vehicle. I determined how the damage occurred once I reviewed my surveillance video. I contacted Bay Area Pools and Mr. Krantzberg was extremely concerned about the situation. The following day a supervisor for the company arrived at my home to review the tape. Bay Area Pool Service took complete ownership and responsibility for the mishap. I obtained an estimate and emailed it to Mr Krantzberg. Although it took a few weeks, I did receive a company check for the full amount of the damage. I found them to be extremely efficient and very professional and wouldn't hesitate to utilize them for all my pool service needs.

I have been a 130.00 monthly client for several years. At first, they were fantastic. However, recently the quality and service has been below par. I don't know if it is because they have too many clients and not enough staff or just an unhappy staff but, as a paying client, I expect more. I had a leak that required me to turn off the pump. When I called to notify them of the problem they sounded eager to fix it, but days went by and I heard nothing from them. I called and they said they were backed up, but that a manager would be notified and they would call me asap. NO CALL. Usually I'm pretty understanding with issues like this IF they sound like they are interested in making it right. Everyone makes mistakes.I called again, close to a week later and was informed they're busy with other customers and I was on the list to be seen two days later. My problem didn't seem to concern them very much. By the way, IN FLORIDA, OVER A WEEK WITHOUT A PUMP ON MAKES FOR A VERY BAD POOL!!! I was not happy so, somehow, they managed to have someone come out that day. The tech did not apologize once. He just stated It was just a leaky hose but not something he could fix. (???????) The tech then offered to schedule a mechanic to come out and replace it which, by the way, would be at least an 85.00 trip charge plus time and materials and, oh! more waiting. It was a hose, not a complicated part! I then inquired if it is a part I could buy at pinch a penny (a mile away) and he said "yes" so I opted to do that since it would be cheaper and quicker! Needless to say, I was shocked when the little part was a whopping 2.50 and simply needed to be screwed into place. THANK YOU PINCH A PENNY! By the way, they also received my request for a pool service quote! LESSON TO BAY AREA POOLS: If you can... Do what you can to prevent an already angry client from stepping foot in a competitor's store. This would have been a very different review had the tech had the initiative to drive himself to the store, buy the 2.50 part and screw it into place. But, in an nutshell, that's what has declined in this company and it's a shame. Declining initiative. If there's algae, I have to point it out and maybe it will be fixed, and on their timeline. If there's a bigger problem, well, that's what my review is about.

There had been a mistake in the size of the pool pump motor. After installation, it was recommended (by the people who built the pool) that we not keep that particular size motor on the pump. Bay Area Pools has been wonderful in agreeing to re-install another motor with out charging us. Previous - Last summer we had our deck sealed and that companies hose busted INSIDE the pool and turned it completely white. Bay Area Pools got our pool back in working order which consisted of several calls for chemicals, a cleaning, not to mention a clogging of the pool pump filter with the sand from the deck, and several back washes. Never charging us for anything extra. They have done work for several people we have recommended them to, you can't ask for a better pool service.

They let us know if there is a problem with the pump or the water level is low. They leave us notes. They've kept their price all these years that we have used them. They are here every week and we've never known them not to come. Whenever my husband has a question, he can call them and get the information he wants. They also have repair people so they can do more than just the cleaning and chemicals of your pool. They are good. We think their price is really good because we have surveyed a number of pool service before we went to them.
