The first excuse was that the person I spoke with had forgotten to write it in the schedule and the second was that the estimator had gotten tied up but had not called me. I gave up after that.

+ -1 moreThey are incredible, they are very good in responsiveness, they are knowledgeable and if for some reason you have a complicated problem and if they send out a plumber that is not comfortable with your complicated problem, he is on the phone back with the office saying that send whomever in the office that he knows can deal with it, he doesn't try and do it himself, they don't charge extra for that. He is honest enough to say that he is comfortable doing it but he knows the guy in the office who can. They are honest, have integrity, competitive in pricing, 24 hours response time, polite and do good clean up. I have had several people come up and none of it is a redo of what they have done. They are the only plumbing company that I am calling.

I stopped at a jewelry store and showed them the watch. The watch specialist was the one that showed me how it would have been done. I would never have known otherwise. I contacted the manager of the company and they said they would get back to me regarding the incident. I never heard back from them.

+ 0 moreThought I was going to need pipes replaced and floor broken up however the technician told me he should be able to open the drain using an auger. I was previously unsuccessful at performing this myself and was reluctant to try. The representative said they could try this first and if it was still an issue then they would provide an alternate estimate. After about 30 minutes the work was performed and we were able to use our shower again. It has never flowed that well since purchasing our 50's home 10 years ago.
Description of Work: Utilized Auger to clear drain.

+ -1 moreI have removed their name from our approved contractor list. During the week of Oct 4, 2012 I called Alvarez Plumbing for a quote to install a shut off valve to my home. We set up an appointment for a 4 hour window on the morning of Oct. 8. No Call. No Show. I called the next day to see what happened. The man indicated that it was a mistake - that their software appointment system wasn't properly filled out. He apologized, offering me a $25 coupon, and set up an appointment for 10/12/2012 for 8:30 am. promptly. At 8:45 the plumber called from the interstate saying he would be late by at least 30 minutes (ofcourse he was already 15 minutes late calling me to tell me he'd be late!). I was not willing to wait for Alvarez Plumbing, so I called it off, phoned the office telling them so, and received no adequate explanation as to the tardiness on a promised appointment time.

Description of Work: Company gave me a time frame from10:00am to 12::00 M. By 11:50 I have not received a call so I called them to confirm I am still on their schedule. They told me they had an emergency and would show up around one a clock. Plumber called me at 15:30 stating he was at my house....I had left at that point. I was on call.

+ 0 moreI had a problem with them because they did a horrible job. They added all kinds of fees after they finished the job and did not stick to their original quote. They told me they were coming at a certain time and then came really early, causing me to have to leave work to come home to let them in. I want to warn people that they will add on charges after they finish the job. The owner was difficult; he gave me the original price but his employees then charged me a lot more; so in the end it was the owner's fault. I will not use them again in the future.

+ -1 moreI called at 5:30 a.m. on a Saturday, because there was a pool of water on the floor in the garage near the water heater. Manuel arrived about two hours after my call. He determined that the leak was in a pipe in the wall rather than a water heater problem. He cut away a small section of the baseboard and wall and cut, welded and fixed the copper pipe. He is very pleasant and personable and was happy to explain what the problem was. The job took about two and a half hours. We were given the $25 Angie's list discount. Because the house is from 1984, it may be necessary to repipe the house at some time. We had to do that at our last home.
Description of Work: There was a leak in a copper pipe in the wall in the garage. It was repaired.

+ -1 moreOn Friday morning no one showed up at 10 am. I waited until 10:30 and when a tech still hadn't shown up I called the office. I told Dave I had an appointment at 10 am and that no one had either shown up or called. He said, "I'm sure they gave you a window of time" to which I replied that I had only heard 10 am. He said he would "have someone over there shortly". By 11 am a tech still had not shown up. I called office and got Dave again. I told him I had to cancel because no one had shown up and I didn't even see a truck in the neighborhood. He just said, "Ok. Sorry" and hung up. He showed no concern that I was unhappy and did not even try to rectify the situation. He didn't even say "He's on his way" which made me think someone hadn't even been dispatched to my house yet. While both Marcus and Dave were pleasant enough on the phone they just didn't deliver a technician as promised and didn't even seem to care that they hadn't completed my scheduled service call. If you expect a plumber to show up as scheduled and be concerned when they fall short, I would suggest finding another plumber.
Description of Work: I called on Thursday and spoke to Marcus. I told him we have a toilet that needed a new flange and for the toilet to be re-seated. Since we know exactly what the problem is I wanted to get an estimate on the cost for the repair over the phone. He was pleasant enough and told me they would charge $84.50 per hour and worst case scenario is that it could take two hours. I agreed to those terms and asked him when they could do it. He said they could be over tomorrow morning (Friday) and asked if I would like the first call of the day or the second, saying that for the second call "a technician would be there around 10 in the morning". I asked to be the second call and told him I would see them at the 10 the next morning. He told me he would not be in the office tomorrow but if I had any problems I should ask for Dave.

+ -1 moreI discovered a leak in the outside plumbing between the house and the meter at a shutoff valve. I called Alvarez Plumbing and was told a plumber would be dispatched soon. Approximately two hours later the plumber arrived. He quickly diagnosed the problem, gave me the estimate of cost and began work. The repair was completed in 1 hour. The location of the leak was underground. The technician took the initiative to replace the underground valve with an above ground valve. The work was completed quickly, neatly and professionally.
Description of Work: A defective coupling between the house and the meter at a shutoff valve had begun leaking. The technician dug a hole to access the pipes, replaced the defective coupling, replaced the underground shutoff valve with an above ground valve and re-filled the hole.

Completed in a few hours, Pedestal sink area had been prepared for him with new supply lines through the wall, but he had to install the shut-offs and cut down the old drain length. The shower required replacing all the parts in the wall and new beauty ring and control with new spray head and pipe. Nice, clean work through out. I have used Alvarez in the past and will use them again.

+ -1 moreWe have used Alavarez plumbing for several jobs over the years, it was a plus to see them on Angies List. I called on a Saturday and they were there as requested only a couple short hours (not bad for a Saturday, unscheduled and desperate). My sons had hit the water line to the house and from what I could see, the exterior wall would have to be opened to make the repair. The service man came, gave me an estimate for all the requested work and after we agreed, got right to work. When he finished the repair outside, I turned the water on an there was still a leak, a bad leak further in the wall. Without complaining, without hesitation, the service man went to work opening the wall and repairing the problem. After the leak was repaired and the water was restored, he completed the flange and toilet work. I spoke with the office manager, Marcus who promptly stated that they would be out to look at the wall damage on Monday and he suggested I call then. When I called Monday while at work, Marcus informed me that the repair was already occurring and that they appreciated my business. What a concept, they stand behind their work and go the extra mile to make me happy. I can't say enough about their professionalism, their pricing and their work not to mention their customer service start to finish. They will definitely get my business again.

+ -1 moreI thought at first that this company was a good bet, but after being billed 3 times in a row in error, I hesitate to recommend them.
Description of Work: I am a property manager of mostly commercial tenants, with a few apartments upstairs at one of the buildings. We have called Alvarez Plumbing on several occasions, when our regular plumber was out of town. Most recently, we have been billed in error 3 times! The first time, we called Alvarez on a Friday morning for an emergency leak in an apartment (the tenant was a military man who had been out of town & had just come back to find his shower leaking, badly) - the tech showed up at 6:30 p.m. and could not get into the apt., but instead of returning the next day (Sat.), he totally forgot about it! Monday morning, another apt. tenant called to say the water in that apt. had been running all weekend! So then I called Alvarez's office and the tech called me back, and apologized for forgetting, saying they had been very busy & that he would fix the leak and we would not be billed - then we got billed anyway! I figured it was due to a lack of communication and sent a letter, and the charge was dropped. On 2/23, I called Alvarez for a leak from an upstairs apt. into a commercial tenant's unit. Alvarez's tech told me and the tenant there was NO LEAK, although an hour later, I went to check it out and found the ceiling soaking wet! We were billed $136.75 - yet nothing was done! I sent a letter, asking them to adjust the bill to a lower figure (just to cover the trip charge), but they never responded. The third incident was a call for a commercial tenant who had a leaky toilet, which Alvarez fixed on 2/18 for $139.83. A week later, the same tech came out, saying he had been sent a FAX requesting him to fix another leaky toilet! (Who sends a FAX to request a plumber??) The tenant called my office with the tech present, to ask me if we had called for a plumber, since they had no leaks. I said no, I did not call a plumber! Then we got a bill for $84.50! There is something terribly wrong here - this company seems very confused (both their techs & their billing dept.!!!) I doubt that we will call them again, although initially we had high hopes that we had found a good plumbing co.
