They were quick, efficient, and professional.

This seemed very high to me, so I contacted another electrician, who was able to finish the work the very first time they came out, charging me a total of 500 dollars. I understand that the electrician from A&H did come out and give an estimate, and I think 75 dollars is a fair price to pay for that. Charging 325 dollars seems a bit much for the size of the job!
Description of Work: I was having trouble with my pool pump not receiving power. They came out one time and charged 75 dollars for the service call just to take a look at the problem. They came out a second time to dig a small hole with a machine, taking about 30 minutes. He charged me 250 dollars more for that day's estimate. He then gave me a price for 855 dollars (including the 325 I had already paid) to finish the job.

The original electrician that installed the system (now retired) told us all we needed to do was hook up wires, test the zones to figure out which wire were were hooked up to, then attach it to the correct number on the switch. We consulted with several electricians in the area, but none were familiar with this system. We finally got ahold of A&H Electrical. They came out, took a look, and said they weren't familiar with the system, but since we have all the original manuals, they were excited to learn about the system, and reassured us they would be able to reconnect the wires in a day. They seemed like the only option we had, as we know nothing about electrical systems and were afraid to do the work ourselves. A&H sent 1 electrician and one helper, who spent 6.5 hours at our house. They did manage to extend the wires as necessary to re-enter the master selector switch box, but that is all they accomplished. Instead of tackling the problem as the original installer advised, they spent all day trying to get a tone through the wires, which won't work in this type of system. They also installed a wall switch, but didn't hook up all the wires, leaving some hanging in the back. The electrician told me his plan for the 2nd day was to test the transformers in the attic, because they were convinced they weren't working. Their plan C was to rewire our entire house with a regular system, which would have likely cost more than $20,000. I put the job on hold, and my husband and his friend worked on the system. They immediately identified the wire that was coming from the power source. Once that was hooked up, they were able to attach other wires just as the original installer had advised us. From there, my husband and I finished the job. It did take some time to attach wires, identify which zone it controlled, then hook it up to the correct number. It was tedious but not hard. After we got the master switch working, the wall switches still didn't work. We worked forever on this issue - hooking and rehooking the wires. It turns out, the electrician changed the wiring inside the switch - once we did troubleshooting on that, all the wall switches worked. I told the owner, Allen, than between my husband, myself, and a friend (none of whom know ANYTHING about electricity) - we figured out the system. He then sent us a bill for $747.48 - 7 hours at $108/hour, plus $67 for materials. First, the men were only at our house for 6.5 hours. Second, I am shocked that he has the nerve to send us a bill for a job they didn't have a clue how to do. They reassured us they would absolutely figure this out, we TOLD them how to fix the issue - and they spent an entire day doing something else. I am willing to pay a fair price for the work they did - which in this case was really just extending the wires down from the ceiling. I offered to pay half of the bill, which I think is MORE than fair for this outcome. The owner, Allen, would not come down off the price at all. He said he already gave us a $75 discount, didn't charge for travel time or the estimate, and he thinks they did everything we asked them to do. A&H's website says... 1. "Your complete satisfaction is guaranteed" >>False. I have left this experience very dissatisfied. 2. "Our strict pricing policies and thorough project cost control procedures are specifically designed to reduce costs for our clients." >>False. They charged me a ridiculous amount for no results. 3. "With an established reputation as an efficient and reliable company, A&H Electrical Services is an organization with integrity that consistently performs work of exceptional quality." >>False. I caught the owner in at least two lies. First, he tried to tell my husband they were at our house for 9 hours but only charged 7 hours. In reality, they were there 6.5 hours. He justified this by telling me they needed to charge for the original (FREE!) estimate. He also told my husband that he had a conversation with me on the phone that never even took place. He also contradicted his electrician, telling me if we had let them in on Day 2, they would have done what the original installer told them to do, and would have completed the job that day. Due to this very disappointing and expensive experience, I would not recommend A&H Electrical Services to anyone.
Description of Work: Another contractor cut the wires to our GE low voltage system, which runs the lights for our house. This system runs a circuit for 10 major electrical zones in our house. 12 wires were cut at the ceiling level, and needed to be matched back up to the 12 wires entering a master selector switch on the wall. The original installer of the system is now retired, but told us how to reconnect the wires, which we relayed to A&H. A&H did not follow the instructions, and were unable to match the wires into the master selector switch. A&H also replaced one wall switch, installing it incorrectly. The only thing A&H accomplished was splicing the wires at the ceiling, to extend the wires further down the wall. For this job, we were charged $747.48.

Response from A & H Electrical Services, Inc
In 27 plus years, this is my 2nd complaint of this nature. On 11/29/2012 at 1:14 pm the homeowner called our office and stated her handyman cut power to her home and she could not find any other contractor to help her with her problem. A&H Electrical is highly trained to troubleshoot electrical issues and gladly took the job to help this homeowner. We arrived on 11/29/2012 to the large custom home at 4:30 pm and laid out the job with homeowner. We found 16-low voltage wires with 8 conductors each controlling all lighting in home cut in half. This is a total of 128 connections to be performed in attic. My technician, Roberto performed trouble shooting the job to reconnect all wires in attic and extend them back to the control panel. Roberto and I discussed how we were going to perform work, laid out job and ordered materials. Upon their return, my men went into attic and extended all wires back to control panel for a total of 128 connections in attic. From there they started toning out all wires with a cable locator to find problems with cable line testing. Due to the fact that wires were cut in half while energized we were concerned about damage done to low voltage relays. When wire toning tracer equipment was used to trace wires we received false signals telling us there is a problem with components. We started tracing down wiring system one light at a time to determine false signals were going through the coils for the relays. 16 total relays. From there they repaired 2 outlets in home and started manually testing wires. The work day was over and we planned on returning to complete the job. The job was put on hold by them and several days later I called her to set new appointment. She advised me she, her husband and another person did what we were going to do on our next trip to the job. A&H Electrical has 17 actual man hours involved with this job. A&H Electrical charged $67.08 in parts, $756.00 in labor (7 hours x 108.00 per hour – 73.00 technician and 35.00 apprentice), less $75.60 discount for Angie’s List customer for a total cost of $747.48. The homeowner paid this invoice on 1-10-2013 (check # 900042). A&H Electrical Services, Inc. prides itself on quality workmanship, experience and guaranteed service. With 27 years in Tampa Bay, our reputation speaks for itself. With that said, due to a customer having her handyman damage her home and a lot of frustration, A&H is willing to refund a fair portion of the paid invoice back to them. Thank you, Allan Himes President

They’ve had fair prices and they’ve given me fairly accurate estimates. They haven’t gone very far past the estimate if they have gone past at all. The work has been high quality. They cleaned up after themselves and they didn’t disrupt the house any more than they had to. Overall we’ve been pleased with them. They're not a cut-rate place.
Description of Work: A&H Electrical Services came out last year to put in an additional outside outlet. I’ve used them for other projects in the past. Previously they put in an entire circuit breaker box in when we remodeled.

A & H Electrical Services Inc What happened was my air conditioner had broke, so the repair man came out, and he was checking the breaker box. Something was wrong with the breaker box, and the repair man was afraid to touch it, so he recommended that, I call A&H Electrical Services. It was a Sunday, I called A&H Electrical Services, he responded and was at my house in 20 minutes. (ON a Sunday). He took apart the box, and tried to savage parts, but couldn't do it. So, he went to his supply house on a Sunday. He had to buy a new supply box, and circuit breakers, and installed it. For only $250 for everything, even on a Sunday. It only took him 2 hours, and he had everything working, and the air conditioning was working. He explained everything, and why he had to do the things.

We were loosing power in the office and part of the kitchen. The electric company came twice and said it was in our breaker box. I called several electricians from Angies List. Pricing is NOT apples to apples. Friends had used A&H and were happy with them. They came out on time, surveyed the problem, with me close at hand. Roland explained the problems , pointed them out to me and what needed to be done. He wrote a report called owner Allen and said Allen would get back to me in the morning. Within a few hours Allen called with the estimate and we secured the job. Roland came on time and completed the job without a problem and cleaned up the site. He wasn't able to do the other little electrical jobs I wanted done, but first thing the following morning another electrician came out and did the incodentials I wanted done. Pleased with both days. I had forgotten about my Angies List 5% discount and later in the day called Allen and he said he'd get a check out to us. We received it within the week. We are very pleased with A&H and would use them again.

The work took about a week, but there was minimal disruption and little damage to walls ceilings. A&H were professional from the estimate through the completion of work. They worked hard at coming up with creative solutions to run wiring with minimal mess. They cleaned up when done. I am very pleased I have safe working electric ! I would recommend A&H to anyone. Robert and Roland did a great a job.

Allen arrived 30 minutes late (bad start to the project. He inspected the three projects, and gave us an estimate on the spot, quoting $75 dollars for the first 1/2 hour and $75 for each additional hour. We agreed, since it seemed to agree generally with what we had researched other electric work at. He and his helper finished the work in about 2 1/2 hours. During the work he was pleasant, and answered all our questions politely, with a little humor thrown in. During the discussion of the lightning damage, we mentioned it had also knocked out one of our telephone jacks. While he was working on one project, his assistant looked at the telephone jack plate, and said it was easily fixable, and fixed it in about three minutes. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

It took them 2.5 years to get the project complete, and at the end of the project, they tried to overbill $2000 to fix work that they had done wrong. They had such high turnover that every time a new guy would come in, he would show me things the others had messed up. I finally got the owner to come in, and he fixed things previous people had done but then tried to bill me for his time. I'm talking about exposed electrical wiring, electrical tape over exposed lights switches with no plate covers, and lots of other things. They were very bad, and it was a total mess.
