I called first and was told that they did that type of job, and that it would be about a week before I could get it done. That didn't fit with my schedule, so I had to wait a while until I was able to try again. Another call produced a slightly different answer. Some campers are set up in a way that makes them refuse to do the work, so I had to bring it in for them to look at before agreeing to do the job. Chris took a look at the camper and we discussed my objectives and his ideas for meeting them. He was very clear that I would not be able to tow a car, but small boat would be no problem (and certainly no issues with the bike rack and cargo basket). I was told to call back Monday morning (about a week later) to schedule an appointment. They were swamped with jobs at the moment, which was obvious after spending 10 minutes at the shop. I called as directed and set up my appointment. I showed up around 7:30, 30 minutes early. Their hours say they open at 8, so I was waiting in the truck. Chris and Robert came out around 7:45 and Chris showed him what we'd talked about before. (Chris didn't take any notes when I met him. He just remembered everything.) I reiterated some of my objectives and agreed to the proposed design. Then Chris asked if I had brought the hitch. I had forgotten that I was supposed to pick up the hitch receiver for them to weld on. I parked the camper and drove to Capital Hitch (which was closed, so I got it Tractor Supply). I made it back around 8:45, and Robert had already begun prepping the camper for the job. I left the hitch with Robert, and my number with Chris, and waited for their call. It took about 3.5 hours, which was almost exactly what Chris had quoted me. Robert had welded the hitch on and braced it to the frame on each side. He also painted all the bare metal (admittedly with a can of spray paint, but I wasn't expecting a factory powder coat on this job). Payment was smooth, and the whole experience was good. I felt bad for delaying the job, if only a little, by forgetting a crucial component. Neither Chris nor Robert even blinked at my oversight. I've seen some pretty inappropriate actions by people dealing with unfortunate situations. These guys were 100% professional at all times. Fair warning, the shop is busy. They have limited space in their yard, and the lot across the street was pretty full each time I went. I saw come Leon County trucks and trailers there the first time. They were pretty much blocking the entire road at first. If you plan to take a large trailer down there, get there very early to give yourself the most room to maneuver. At the time of this writing, this site shows a PO Box for the company address. The shop is at 1220 Lake Bradford Road. The shop was clean and neat. There were jobs in progress all over of course, but things were organized and as clean as I imagine any such shop can be. While they still use paper work-orders/tickets, no one had any problem locating mine. They've got a good system that works. UPDATE- I wrote this review and didn't publish it right away. Then I forgot about it. It has now been 14 months since getting the work done, and I've driven well over 2,000 miles (yes, two thousand miles) with three bikes on a rack in this hitch. Although I was initially skeptical about how much the rack moved around when shaking it manually, everything has worked as designed. The movement is due to the rack design, not the hitch. All of the welds are holding up perfectly, and the simple paint job has kept the rust off. Great work, and still pleased!
Description of Work: I wanted to put a 2" hitch receiver on the back of my fifth wheel camper so that I could carry a bike rack, cargo basket, and maybe someday tow a car or a boat as well. Capital Hitch and online sources did not result in a bolt on kit for my model, so I had to look into a custom job.
