Matt Williams Concrete & Driveway Specialists

This guy accepted a proposal for $5000.00 do mine and my sons driveway. He ripped up ONLY PART of the driveway and then stopped showing up. When we called him he first said that he had a family emergency but would be there to finish. Then when we called him again he said that he HAD to have more money before he would finish. Its customary to pay half up front and pay the remaining half once the job is complete, BUT we paid him another $500.00 so he would keep working. Then he stopped showing up altogether!!! My driveway is ripped up completely! He was supposed to have the concrete poured and won't do so until we pay him in full, which no one should ever do just because of people like this. When we call to get him to come pour the concrete he yells at us. He leaves us irate voicemails. We called him yesterday to advise him that we refuse to give him any more money until the job is finished and if he would not finish it then we would report him. He again yells and gets very irate. We are reporting this business to the Better Business Bureau. This guy is scary! Not sure how crazy he is going to get now that we advised him that we are reporting him!

He showed up sweating and shaky from the weekend prior. Told me he could do the driveway addition for $2000.00 which I agreed to and that I would need to give him half up front to pay for the concrete. I bought money orders to verify a legal reciept and he deposited the money orders to his and his mothers joint account. A week later a different contractor (W. Morre) showed up along with North florida redi mix and the driveway was completed to my satisfaction. A week after that the co-owner of North Florida redimix called me at work and told me I owed them 724 dollars because the original contractor, Matt Williams had not paid them. According to Florida law a materialist like NFRM has the right to place a lien on the property owner to recoup their losses, if any. I had no choice but to pay this company an additional 724 dollars to keep them from placing a lien on my property. This guy Matt Williams seems to be an outright thief. He has official looking contractor markings on his truck that say "licensed and insured" to help him con trusting folks that are just trying to get bids on work they want done. If this guy shows up at your house or business tell him you have already hired a different contractor. In fact after more investigation, the only thing anyone has to do to become a concrete contractor in the state of Florida is print out an official looking piece of paper that states you are a "concrete driveway specialist' because there is no regulatory overseer at the state, county or federal level. The material corporations have protective laws for themselves but us as consumers do not. It is truly Buyer BEWARE!!! with concrete and roofing contractors.... Matt in Tallahassee
