I had a terrible experience with him and it also seems that somebody else had a terrible experience with the same painter. I should have checked Angie’s List before hiring him. We gave him the job and he seemed very nice when he came out with the so called contract; I was an idiot for signing it. He said the work will be done in a workman like manner. He came in later and asked for most part of the money which my wife gave. He took advantage of us, he worked one day and kind of piddled around. The next day he did not show up until 1.30 or 2.00 o’ clock. I asked him about it and he replied saying he had to get his cholesterol checked. I told him that he could not get it checked in a few hours it takes two or three days. The third day he did not show up at all, he left a little kid here to finish up the work. I myself finished a part of it. When he came for work, he had a big guy with him who was his friend, he was just standing around he was not a painter. I called his home and said I did not see him, he said that his friend had died. The same guy who was here, died the next day. The kid that was painting here started screaming at the top of his lungs because his friend died. He was crazy. That was the last I heard of him, he did not show up after that. It was ridiculous to even think he would. After this, I looked up on Angie’s List about him and there was another lady and her son who basically said the same thing. He took the money, did not come back and left. He worked a day and a half for the job which should have taken at least a week. He should be arrested for calling himself a painter, he cannot even spell the word painter. That is how bad he is. He would not make the upper crust in any social situation. He is unbelievable.

Talked a good game but when it came time to do the work, O'Brien and his crew were tardy, messy and did not complete the work and the painting they did was slow. Never again!

My mom (whom I live with) hired Daniel Obrien to do some general repairs to our house. He followed through with individual services and repairs, specifically pressure washing the house, which we paid him a total of $300 for on December 30th, 2011. Then we decided that we wanted him to paint the house. On January 10, 2011 we drew up a contract, which stated he would do the paint job for a total of $1600. The contract stated that a third of the total would be put down as a deposit. That same day he began sanding the siding of the house, but stopped after about half an hour, and said it was too cold to do the work. He asked for a $500 check which my mom gave him and he cashed it at her credit union the same day. He has not been back to our house since. She has called numerous times and left messages but he hasn?t returned one single call. On the evening of March 11, 2011 my mom called his home phone from another number and he answered the phone. She explained to him that she was very angry that he had not returned her calls, had not come back to finish the work and still had her $500. She told him that she wanted her money back immediately. He said he was very sorry, and that he would bring the money the next day, March 12, 2011 at 2:30PM. At 2:40 PM that day my mom called his cell phone and his home phone and got no answer and left messages and still has not heard from him. We called the sheriff?s department and they said all we can do is go to civil court, which will take up more of our time and money, all the while our house sits worse off than it was before. I can?t believe he can get away with something like this. I personally don?t see how this is not just stealing, as he has our money, and we don?t have the work done or even started on, with no prospect of him doing it. I definitely don?t want this to happen to anyone else. I don?t think he is an honest businessman or person, and he should have his license suspended or revoked.
Description of Work: He pressure washed our two story home and driveway and completed that job on December 30, 2010 and was paid the total amount, $300 that same day, and we were satisfied with how the work turned out. Then he was supposed to paint the exterior of the house. The day he started (January 10, 2011) he began sanding the exterior of the house (see pics), and about half an hour later stopped working and said he would be back the next day. He got the $500 deposit from us, and has not returned since. Now everything is on hold until we get our money back, and the house needs to be pressure washed again before it is painted.
