The original time required for installation was 2 days and a phone confirmation for work was given for 4/5 and 4/6/12. All appliances were disconnected with the gas company on 4/4 in expectation of work to be started in timely way. On 4/5 the installation manager called saying they had overbooked and work could not begin as promised. He was informed that the appliances had already been disconnected and Easter plans would have to be cancelled if job was not completed as scheduled. He agreed to send 1 man to get the job started. Man arrived in the afternoon needing assistance from my son and myself to move the washer/dryer (we had moved the oven and refrigerator before he arrived although that was not the original plan -payment included their services to remove and replace appliances). Only 1 man worked throughout the entire installation- nobody came to help him (no other workers came to assist as we were expecting)!! My husband and son helped him carry the removed tiles to his van for disposal!! We also bought plastic sheeting ourselves, taped off floor to ceiling areas, to reduce debris traveling throughout the house. Job completion took 3 1/2 days with homeowners help-not 2! In all fairness to the 1 man who did the work- he worked hard and the final outcome of his work does look good. When the work was completed my son and I transported unused materials left in our garage back to the Stuart store for return and also make initial payment for work performed. Returned items totalled $298.41. Not exactly sure why extra unnecessary materials were shipped to our home in the first place! When the May statement arrived there was an additional charge of $298.41 - Wait a minute- That was a return, not a purchase!! Customer service operator contacted but she was "only a billing employee" who could not resolve the problem. Additional visits to the Stuart store resulted in more talk with clerks who could not resolve any problems. The manager was not available but the manager of kitchen cabinets did speak with me briefly and stated she would resolve the issue. Monthly statements continued to arrive without any resolution of the problem. Home Depot Customer Care Resolution was contacted and after several e-mails and phone calls nothing was resolved. There was not any consideration for; inconvenience and lack of timely installation of tile, over charge of leveling or double charge for returned items. I paid off the monthly statements but will never purchase anything from Home Depot ever again as a result of this BAD business deal!
Description of Work: Home Depot Stuart Fl services were secured to remove old tile and then install new kitchen/laundry room tile. The quoted price was significantly increased when it was determined by the installer that subfloor preparation was needed which required ( 4) 25 lb bags of leveler at a cost of $95 a bag! The store sells the 25 lb bag for $9.95 !! I could have secured the needed leveler by driving a few miles, SAVING $360, if advised. Not only was cost of needed material overinflated but there was an additional $48 labor fee charged!
