Initial quote was very quick after a fast inspection. Some confusion between customer and contractor developed after I asked for quote on added insulation and I felt a bit in the dark about the job status (1 week). After contact was re-established and quotes were signed, the work was scheduled. 6 man work crew showed up promptly at 08:30 and worked hard and fast to remove old roof. When old termite damage was discovered, added work on sintering beams and replacement sheathing was done quickly after informing me of requirements as specified in initial quote. New roof was completely installed by 15:00 and passed county inspection without question 2 days later. I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the work, in both the service and quality.
Description of Work: 1974 house has a porch converted into a flat-roof Florida Room of 240 sq.ft. Required replacement of old roof to fix several leaks and I requested added insulation (3") for energy efficiency.

Before they started the job the house was surrounded with tarps to catch any and all nails (I have only found 3 so far) when they pulled some of the wood off and were replacing it with the new wood, one of the boards fell off the roof and snapped my water faucet by my planter and I quickly had a new fountain....you should see the guys and Mr GRIFFITH scramble to turn the water off....I guess they all thought that I would explode and be upset...I told them it could have been worse and I told him I would pay him to fix it and Mr GRIFFITH said no they broke it so they would fix it and that they did and before I realized it had been repaired. GRIFFITH Roofing took old roof off in less then a day, and replaced any wood that needed replacing, vents were replaced....this same day.....with rain and other commitments the job was completed in a week....All of GRIFFITHs workers were very professional, polite, and commited to their job and equally to their employer GRIFFITH....While this job was being done Mr GRIFFITH was in contact with me or my son....we had a death during this time and GRIFFITH did not hound me for payment the moment the new roof was on.....shortly after the roof was finished we had some terrible rain storms and I felt great that I had my new roof and didn't have to worry anymore about leaks....If was a pleasure dealing with Mr GRIFFITH, he just needs someone to answer his e-mails and or phones for him, my only complaint.....In the far off future I hope, YES I will do business with GRIFFITHS ROOFING.....Thanks to Angies List TOO!!

This has been very stressful. I offered him $250 to cover the cost of the permit (actual cost $114) and going there with his materials. He did not do any work! He did not respond to my offer, and I have been told that he cannot put a lien on my property without a contract--we did not have a contract--but I cannot afford an attorney to find this out. I am no longer offering him any money, and I am glad that you are willing to help.
Description of Work: I called Brent Griffith and asked him to replace a roof on an 865 square foot home plus carport. He told me that it would be $6500. I told him I had only $2000 to spend. He said he would replace the roof on the carport because that was in very bad condition. I said that would be all right. He went to the house, got up on the roof, and called me to say that the wood infested with termites and I would need to have that taken care of before he could put on the roof. I hired the people to do the jobs, and I told them to coordinate with Brent. They spoke to one another. I went to the house to pay for the carpentry work, and from there called Brent to tell him that the work was done and he should come and see it. He said he was busy. When he went the next day, he said that the carpenter did not put plywood on the top of the rafters, and I would have to pay for that. I told him that he was supposed to have coordinated with the carpenter and if he could not do the work for $2000, I did not want him to do the work at all. He went to the house the next day and took away the materials he had left on the roof. Now he is threatening to put a lien on the house for $1350.

Response from B Griffith Roofing Inc
This member, whom I have done roofing services for, for many years, verbally authorized me to replace the carport roof @ the project address. I permitted the job, called in for an in-progress inspection, and had my crew tear off the existing built up roofing membrane system on the carport elevation only to have revealed termite infested rafters & sheathing. The Pinellas County Inspector that came out and was on the job saw the infested wood and stopped the job. I informed the member that a Licensed General Contractor was the only one that could do this work. She didn't hire a Licensed Contractor but rather hired a guy named Bill, who as an "exterminating" company. When Bill called me and said the job was ready for us to finish, my crew went there only to see that the rafters were replaced but no sheathing had been. I then called the member who said she expected me to do this. I told her no, that when a Contractor replaces rafters he also replaces the sheathing and that this was his responsibility. She started to become upset and irate with me and threatened to get another roofer to finish the job. I told her if that was what she would like to do, that was fine and that I would bill her for the permit & labor that I had incurred so far. She stated that she wasn't going to pay me anything. I told her this was not right and she in turn said "so go ahead and sue me Brent, you have nothing in writing". I then in turn called Mr. John Segrate, Head Building Inspector for the County, and he told me to send in a letter of explanation of the events that had occurred and a letter to request my name be taken off this permit. He then said he was going to issue her a violation for the rafters work being done without a permit. This all occurred on May 18,2010 and only until the member learned of the violation issued, received my bill and my Notice to Owner with intent to a lien, did she respond to me. She sent me a threatening letter, dated 5/28/10, stating that either I accept her monetary offer of only $250.00 or that she was going to complain to both Angie's List and to Pinellas County and that we could "raise the level of damage to one another", I did not respond to her threatening letter and thus, she filed a complaint with both Angie's List and Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board. I feel this is truly a very unethical and a very unprofessional business practice on her part. My bill to her of $1,350.00 included the permit fee, administrative/overhead fees for my secretary's time for obtaining the permit, for typing up the correspondence for rescinding my name from the permit, and for my crew's time and labor for tearing off the built up roofing membrane system on the carport elevation, hauling off all the termite infested wood and dump fees. In reality, this figure is relatively low and extremely fair as I was trying to help her realizing she was going to incur more expensive due to the termite damage that was discovered. I was flabbergasted that she took such a defensive attitude about this situation and filed unjustified complaints considering I have done numerous roofing jobs for her previously. I feel I am justified in this situation and should not have to back down or accept her "threatening" counteroffer for payment for my services. If you have any questions and/or comments, please contact me at the above number. Thank You! Brent Griffith President

We had trouble getting a call back. Left numerous messages and finally got an estimate. My husband thought enough of Mr. Griffith when he finally came to offer him the job. It took several calls to finally get an estimate and several more to get a contract. I was not able be home when he was at the house since I work. We asked for a discount because we found him on Angie's list and got only a $100 discount on a $3100 job. When I finally received the contract estimate and returned the contract to Griffith, I never heard anything from them for over a week. We kept calling and no one called us back. Finally, they showed up at our door on Monday morning and began work without ever letting us know they were coming. They finished the job in one day. I am a little disappointed because I thought they would replace the facing and it would look better but it looks about the same. Needless to say, we don't know if it is fixed since it hasn't rained yet. I am just really disappointed in the lack of communication and respect for others requests. My husband was impressed with the way the crew worked. I might use them again if they assured me that communication would be better and if indeed the roof is fixed. I worry about having to try to get them back here if there is any problem!
Description of Work: reroof a carport and tied into main house roof. It had been leaking for several years and we had a couple of people try to repair. Removed old roof and haul away debris. Replace front FUT roof system with SBS modified bitumen roof system Tied into existing gravel roof system

The estimate for repairing the roof leak was in line with other bids, but Brent was out the same day I called. The leaks were repaired and we didn't have any more problems after the bad rain storm this weekend. More importantly, Brent suggested our roof vents weren't long enough to provide adequate attic ventilation. I looked at the neighbors roofs and saw our vents were much shorter. Cooling our house in the evening has been a major problem for the last 25 years. No wonder. The new vents cost 300.00 and even though it's only April, we can already tell the house is cooling off with less work from the air conditioner. No one else identified the problem we've been trying to solve since the house was built! I recommend this company.

Friday morning 2 workers came out and looked over what had to be done and checked everything out. They were very courteous and thorough before starting the repair. They finished in about an hour or so and cleaned up their area, also replaced other broken tiles on roof and gave us the remaining tiles. It rained all day on Sunday and my husband went in the attic to check the repair and it was dry. We were very pleased with their service, would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our tile roof and called Griffith roofing to repair it. Brent came out and gave an estimate but had to first find tiles to match as our roof was 9 years old. We didn't hear from him for a few days and then he called to let us know he was still looking for the tiles, he did keep in touch with us to keep us informed. He called a week later and said he had the tiles. He came out the next day.

He was very good and I would have liked to have used him, but the buyer of my house wanted to choose the roofer. His quote was very detailed. He was prompt and was recommended by other builders. He came right out and was proactive and got right back to me, unlike some other companies that got back days later.

Seemed to go very well. Of course, time will tell. But no leak after last Friday's rain. Worker did say he found a hole which looked to have come from an oak branch falling and hitting the roof. He spent some time to locate anything that might account for the leak. Appreciated knowing what he found that likely caused leak.

We called in the afternoon to report the leak in our roof and B. Griffiths Roofing was working on the problem the following morning. They kept me advised of what they had found and what they would do to fix it. The leak was bad enough that we had placed a bucket under the drip and collected about and inch of water in just a few hours. We have used them twice before (for different problems) and have always been more than satisfied.

Contractor was very easy to work with. Answered all of my questions courteously, and patiently explained everything to me in detail. Was on on job himself frequently to make sure everything was done perfectly. All his workers were friendly and polite. They took great care to not damage anything, especially the shrubery. Their cleanup was perfect. He personally checked back with me to make sure I was satisfied with everything before he requested final payment. The only problem I had was that his cell phone mail box was full several times and I could not leave a message.
Description of Work: Removed existing tile roof and installed new tile roof. Repaired existing structure as necessary. Had to repair/replace overhang in lanai and front porch, which had water damage. This was done by his employees. Also had to replace and finish sheet rock in these areas, which he subcontracted out.

Workmen seemed to enjoy their job--we enjoyed their singing in Spanish. The job was done quickly and well, and the cleanup was impeccable. The new roof looks great. One surprise was that when I got the bill the extra woodwork increased the original bid by almost 25%. I was unaware that there was rotted decking, the crew did not talk to me about it, and once the job was done I couldn't see much new wood. I believe that they did this woodwork, but I would have felt better about it if I could have seen where they put 240' of new 1 x 10 decking at $5.50 a foot with my own eyes.
Description of Work: Removed existing shingle roof, replaced rotted roof decking, knocked down and closed unused chimney opening, installed 1 ply Carlisle peel and stick over wood decking, replaced valley metal and lead flashings, installed three off ridge vents and reroofed with OC 50 year shingles. On flat section of roof, tore off existing, renailed decking and installed 1 ply #43LB basesheet. Installed new drip edge and 1 ply firestone mod. bitumen premium.

I work for a small company in Tampa. They had purchased this building a couple of years ago and have put a lot of money into it. So when the roof started to leak and drip on the employees, I was tasked into finding a roofer. We had several companies come in to give us a quote. They all wanted to replace the roof! Then while talking with HR and trying to put together the information for the CEO, I remembered the Brett had come to my house when hurrican Dennis came though and I lost 2 ceilings in my house. He was great then so I though we would give him a call to see if he would work on business. He came out, the CEO liked him and his price. He said that he could fix it until we were ready to have more work done. He was the only one who present the CEO with options.

It was done but cost me a lot of money which I could have done myself.
Description of Work: I had a roof leak at my house. I check Angie's list and got this company's name. They were able to come quickly out and look at the roof. They quoted me to replace the entire roof for $15k. I could not spend that amount of money at the time and asked to have them just repair the leak. They charged me $650 to pour one can of tar patch over an area. One can of that patch costs $40 at Home Depot. It turns out that the gutter was clogged which caused water to stand on the flat roof and they didn't even bother to check that.

The two person work crew were organized, friendly and took the time to find the leak. The leader also reported on the condition of the roof and the underlying surface. At no time was there an attempt to sell me services I did not need. The only question I had was I remember specifically asking Brent if he accepted credit cards as a form of payment, prior to agreeing to have the work done. When I received my bill and called to pay by credit card, he didn't really want to take my card as a form of payment. He said he preferred a check. I wanted to charge the bill on my credit card but he was pretty firm about accepting a check. This was not a problem for me but it could have been for someone else. Also, putting work on a credit card is a form of insurance for me. If it had not been done correctly, I'd have recourse through my credit card. This was a minor annoyance.

My father needed a roofer for the top of his house the roof was leaking in the kitchen. he has tile roof and he asked me to call Angies list since I am a member of this great group of people. I called B Griffith because of his reputation and have been around since I was born. He came and gave him an estimate and was there the next day. My father is very pleased with his workmanship and his honesty to have them work for him.
Description of Work: His guys patched a hole in the roof near the kitchen below and was telling my dad that he will eventually need a new roof. it was thirty years old and the roof was in need for about five more years. My dad could not afford to get one so he declined to get a new one right now, just the patch would do. Mr. Griffith sent over 2 of his men to come over to my dads house within 2 days to get the job done. excellent workers. since it has been raining no water damage thank god!
