This was a great experience. I really wanted B. Griffith to do my roof based on their reviews on Angie's List, so I waited until they were more available after Hurricane Irma. I am very glad that I did. Brent is a great contractor, and he really took the time to educate, show me samples and offer various alternatives. His office staff were great too; very personable and helpful. I did not see any workers standing around; they all got right to work and finished my roof in record time and cleaned up thoroughly afterward. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who needed roof work done. Extremely nice people to work with.

Griffith Roofing repaired the leak promptly and we have had no more more trouble. The owner is wonderful to work with, he knows his business and he stands behind his work. We would use him again if we have any roofing needs. His team is professional, courteous and very competent. We trust him and his team to give us quality service and they do not disappoint.
Description of Work: We recently returned to Florida after living elsewhere and purchased a home. Shortly thereafter, we noticed a roof leak from our tile roof. We had used Griffith Roofing to completely re-roof our previous Florida home and were very impressed with their work, so we contacted them again.

I have never encountered more dishonest and disrespectful business in my years as a homeowner. Be warned - the owner does not have control over his own company. His office is run by his daughter and partner, who the owner admits have been the source of many customer issues. I had obtained a quote from several roofers to get both of my roofs (tile and flat) replaced. B Griffith Roofing quoted $13,500 for tile replacement and $6,200 for a tapered roof system. Additionally, they quoted my solar installer $2000 to install supports for a solar system. The flat roof quote was high in comparison to other quotes, but due to time constraints, I had to move forward. The owner, Brent Griffith, told me on multiple occasions that he would inform me of and request permission for additional charges before work was performed. Work started on 5/23 in which they removed tile, put down new underlayment for both roofs, and replaced the flat roof with the tapered roof system. No one mentioned any additional work. In the process of re-roofing on 5/23, one of their workers put a hole in my guest room ceiling (I could see through to the sky -see pics). Brent assured me that he would cover the repair cost, so I had a drywall contractor repair it at a cost of $390. Additionally, his workers damaged the gutters on the front of my house when removing tile. There were multiple witnesses to the above, including my solar installer who stopped by to see that the supports would be installed properly, and a water mitigation company who cut out the ceiling under the flat roof after it was replaced. As you can see in the attached pictures, the decking and rafter wood under the flat roof is all original. Weeks went by after the initial work with no mention of any additional woodwork. During this time, I discussed payment methods with the owner and he said I could pay with a credit card and OFFERED to split the credit card processing fee. His office manager, his partner (not wife, but they live together), called me and left me a nasty voicemail accusing me of demanding to split the fee and calling my character into question after they "had gone out of their way for me already". This was the first red flag, but I told her I'd cut them a check if it was going to be an issue. Even that conversation in which I was telling them I would pay them was rude and confrontational. Tile arrived weeks later and tile work was completed on 6/27. On 6/28, I wrote them a check for the original contract price in full of $19,700, which was picked up by one of their workers and delivered to their office. They cashed it and THEN sent me an email telling me there would be an additional invoice for woodwork. This was a surprise since the owner had told me his crew said nothing to him about woodwork. I replied to them telling them what the owner had said, and that I would not be paying for anything I wasn't made aware of and that I didn't approve. If the owner says his crew didn't do woodwork (apart from the places where they put their foot through), and that he would notify me of it beforehand, and literally a month goes by after claimed woodwork was done with no mention of it, and only after I've paid does it come to light - THEN I have a reason to be skeptical. At this point, they started responding with more nasty emails. Before even sending a quote for claimed woodwork, the office sent me an email threatening to place a lien on my home and hold warranties & insurance documentation hostage. I called the owner immediately, and he again reiterated that his crew had not mentioned woodwork to him, that it was a non-issue, and that he would accept the $19,700 as paid in full. He also committed again to repairing the hole in the ceiling and to repairing the gutters. The office responded back countering what the owner said, with quote, "My dad said to let you know that I am handling this in the office and that you do not need to call him as he is out of it." I thought - Is this a good cop/bad cop scam? At this point, I got my attorney involved. B Griffith's office sent me an invoice for $825 for 120' of woodwork on the tile roof and 30' of woodwork on the flat roof. I got up into my attic and did not see 120' of new wood under the tile. The attached pictures under the flat roof show original wood since the ceiling was cut out. This was clearly gouging and dishonesty. Additionally, they sent my solar installer a surprise invoice for an ADDITIONAL $3800 for installing the supports. That's $5800 for a $2000 original invoice. This surprise amount was included in the Notice to Owner they sent which would be the basis for their threatened lien. They claimed their workers were there for an additional 24 hours to do that work, but their workers were not at my home for more than 4 days total to do the entire roof replacements an support installation. The solar installer paid the $5800 invoice to try to stop them from placing a lien. The unprofessional emails continued in which they backed out of providing promised insurance documents, accused me of not being able to understand English, refused to pay my drywall contractor (claiming his invoice was not good enough, leaving me with a half repaired ceiling as he did not return to finish when he realized he was not getting paid), and refused to fix my gutters, accused me of trying to scam their company, and sending statements like "please stop wasting our time with your useless opinions as they do not matter (I too have my personal opinions about you but I will not lower myself to your level - lol)". With guidance from my lawyer, I requested the documents they were obligated to provide in exchange for the woodwork payment. They refused to send the documents to my lawyer even when he had my certified check in hand to pay them. They doubled down on accusing me of trying to scam them when my lawyer and I were actively trying to pay them. Eventually, my lawyer had to send them a certified check before getting a release of lien - a risky proposition given their deceptive behavior. I had to order an independent 4 point inspection because they would not provide the roofing certificate they promised. My ceiling and gutters are still damaged. I have filed a complaint with the contracting board to have B Griffith's license revoked. Do not hire this company. They will gouge you, weasel out of damaging your property, and attack your character while doing it.

I got a quote from 5 companies, including Grifith. They were the 2nd lowest estimate and since they had the most positive reviews, I went with them...ohhhh such a bad decision.... They went to the property and gave me an initial quote of $6,200, The property had VERY visible wood rot on a soffit portion of the laundry room. Apparently, they did not take that into consideration when quoting, I had no problem with that wood rot since It was mostly on the fascia board and I am skilled enough to replace it myself. A day after I gave the go-ahead and they started working, I get a call in the morning from Brent, the owner. Telling me what I already knew, that the roof had some rot. I told him how much is it going to cost me to fix all the rot (the extra work) since I can fix it myself if the extra work quoted price is not right for me. Well, we agreed that he was going to give me a quote of how much it was going to cost and how much extra wood was involved. 6 hours passed by and at 1PM, I call him and send him a TXT reminding him that I still haven't received the quote for the extra work, since I know that roofing is a fast phased work and they are typically done in 1 to 2 days and they were already 1 day into it. 1 hour later, I get a TXT from the owner stating that he was not sure he could hear but that his guys were installing and removing and probably was about 200 feet of 1x6 cedar but behind the cedar was rotted sub-fascia. I then immediately reply with "How much will all that cost?", And again, 1 hour later ( 3:33PM by now) he replies with a more detailed list of materials and a price of $1,900 for the extra work. I ask him if he was at the property (I was working) and that I wanted to see what needed to be fixed ( because I knew that list of materials needed he gave me was way excessive and thus the quoted price was high), I wanted to see if it was true that all that he said was bad, was actually bad. I then call him directly and ask him again if he was at the property and that I wanted to go see what he claimed was bad, he then told me that the work had already been done... and that everything was already fixed, and that the list of materials he TXT me was already installed...I told him we agreed that I was going to get a quote first, before doing the job...not a statement after the job... I went to the property to see what was done and see the old removed material on the trash can and sure thing, there was *some* fascia replaced, about 60' in total, not nearly close to the 200' he claimed (which the entire fascia of the property doesn't reach 200') There was old not so good fascia nailed with new fascia and old sub-fascia with new fascia, 1 feet pieces of rafter sistered to rotten rafters, when it should be at least half the length of the rotten rafter... a very very sloppy job... All the materials used were not nearly close to what he claimed was used, and to top it all...There was no one at the property at 4 PM even tho I was told there was going to be, so I could not validate the material used by looking at the material removed. very shady... I saw 2 12' fascia boards in the floor (We will get back to them soon) I took many pictures, called the owner and told him the sloppy job that was done and sent him all the photos (which he never took the time to even see) This was on April 27. May 10, I get a TXT from my tenant that there is a letter for me from the roofing company. The letter is the final statement with $8,516.00 due... That is $2,316 extra of the $6,200 and more than the $1,900 the owner said...And, remember the 2 12' cedar fascia board that was on the floor?Yep, it was included here but was never installed, they took it away. By this time, I am very ****** off with their shady practices and the overcharging...I could not take it anymore... I email them: "There is $2,316 of extra woodwork that was supposed to be disclosed to me by writing (as outlined in the proposal\contract) indicating the amount of wood necessary for the 'extra' work along with the cost of such extra expenses. I was contacted by Mr.Griffith by phone about needing extra work, and it was agreed to give me a list of all materials needed along with the price of such materials, since Mr.Griffith did not have an exact amount of material that was used or how much everything would exactly cost...That written order was never delivered and the woodwork was still done without my consent, knowledge, and approval. I talked with Mr.Griffith about my concerns and he is well aware of them, I also sent an email that day to this exact email address describing my concerns and providing many pictures, I was told that he would call me and work out the issue. That also never happened... It is, needless to say, I am not very happy with the way the work has been handled and the lack of transparency from Griffith Roofing. Bellow is the section in the proposal/contract describing the proper way it should have been handled. "Any alteration or Authorized Deviation from the above specifications involving extra costs (excluding Woodwork) will be executed only upon written orders, and will become an extra charge over and above the Estimate."" I then get a response that the line I quoted "it states involving extra costs, "excluding woodwork", will be executed only upon written order" Then they try to say that I did not send any email containing the photos even tho I give them all the proof they will ever need, I reply to the email, send them screenshots, etc... and they still try to make me look like a liar, stating that she is very computer literate and that I did not send the email...well I'm a Software Engineer by profession and provided every possible proof of the existence of such email, after they figured out that they can't fool me on that front, they tried the legal jargon way... I replied to they email with: ""Any alteration or Authorized Deviation from the above specifications involving extra costs" will tell you that any extra cost from the initial proposed cost will need to be written. the "excluding woodwork" part makes no sense, all the roofs in this country are made of wood...so every work on it will be wood work...that means that if I have a roof that needs $10,000 extra in woodwork, you are going to do the work without telling me how much it will all cost exactly and then tell me It needed $10,000 extra in woodwork??? That is absolutely crazy." Think about what I just replied to them....isn't that just crazy??? They can technically charge an unlimited amount of money without any consent from you and then you owe that money???, they might have got a lot of people with that scheme, but I was not going with it... They reply with: "... there is much more to a roof than just "wood" so the extras could be a number of things besides the woodwork. There is underlayment, T111 siding, angle flashing, counter flashing, base flashing, etc., etc. that could run into extra work on a home depending on the the condition of the material, etc. ..." Which i then reply: "I do not wish to continue arguing ma'am, I don't like to do a scene, but this has gone out of hand. Underlinement, Flashing, etc are things you take into consideration when you go to the property to see the roof shape, square footage, etc and make the proposal... The only things you cannot see is rot...that is wood....and things like piping, cabling, etc in the attic (obstacles). Missing fascia or soffit does not make a roof leak inside the property, so there was no rush (other than pure business) to put fascia in place." I then TXT the owner and request a face to face meeting to discuss this mess and git it over with. I meet with him 2 days later and confront him with a plethora of proof of their wrong doing and sloppy job. The owner and me, then agree to settle it for $7,000 ($800 for the "extra wood work") which I know there still not $800 worth of materials for the "extra wood work" but that this point, I just want to be done with this company... I am told I will receive the updated invoice for $7,000... Three days later, I send an email asking for the new invoice so that I can pay, I get a reponse that the secretary doesn't know what we agreed, I tell her that we agreed on $7,000. 2 days later, I get a response that Brent wanted to go over my folder again, and that he had to review it again. (back to square 1...) I TXT the owner that the secretary told me about he's decision after we agreed and setted everything. At this time I have no more time to waste in this nonsense and was ready to go to the small claims court... I then received the updated invoice for the agreed $7,000 and paid. *****Be very careful with these guys, and their practices... If you decide to contract them, Stay during the work and supervise the work at all times...Don't leave them doing the work unsupervised...****** *****And this is for one of their secretaries, you know who you are... When you have a business, the clients are your boss, they are the ones who pay your salary, keep your business running and the lights on, try being polite to your clients, you will get more business that way. You just lost one investor client that could had used you for all my properties and future ones, now I don't have anything good to say about Griffith and will not recommend to any of my investor friends or realtors.

Response from B Griffith Roofing Inc
This member is such a fibber. All he kept complaining about the woodwork was because he didn't want to pay for it even though it is stated in our contract "woodwork is an extra above and beyond the proposal price". He kept crying and whining to Brent, the owner, that he didn't have the money and that we were supposed to let him know every bit of wood that needed to be replaced, etc. etc. We CAN'T stop a job and call a customer with every piece of wood that needs to be replaced because we need to finish up the woodwork to be able to finish the roof especially before rains set in. etc. He told Brent to go ahead and replace the rotted wood and then he turned around and expected Brent to eat (which just to get him to quit calling and texting everyday he did) his rotted down house and bad wood. He was given a CD of pictures that showed and proved every piece of wood that was replaced - he was just someone wanting something for free and not have to pay for it. And when it walks into our workplace and tells my husband that our business is not being run right and that the office staff is not responding to customers like they should (just because we got real tired of this guy emailing, calling, texting and whining about what he rightfully owed and we soon started ignoring him and his calls) that is when he just needs to quietly go away. I am not going to waste my time justifying what we were right in billing and again, I will reiterate, he just wanted to get something for nothing and not rightfully pay his total invoice. And I will also note it is awfully funny this member was requesting a "paid in full" invoice and being very polite by email (just a ploy) and only after he received this invoice the other day does he turn around and leave this awful rating. Unbelievable and underserved!!

Brent came out himself to do the quote, which I appreciated. The quote was detailed and prescriptive with the information unlike some of the summarized other quotes that were received. While the initial schedule was a week to two weeks out, Brent called me one morning a few days after the contract execution and said if I wanted they had time to do the work immediately. It happened to work for my schedule, so it was great. The crew was professional, clean and efficient. I was surprised at how quickly the work was done. Cleared inspection and we were done within basically 2 days. There was some confusion around the final inspection, but Brent took care of it. He has been responsive to my calls and messages as has the staff in the office. They took many pictures of the work and were able to provide detailed information. The flat roof and slope look great as do the shingled roof. I would say that while this clearly is a family business, that to me was the pro, not the con. Brent is knowledgeable and honest about the efforts required and clearly cares about his customers. Carol and Nicole are responsive and courteous in the office.

took 4 days to complete 2400 high pitch roof single story house. Guys were working very hard and did very good job. Roof looks very good, all rotten wood got replaced and calked/primed. No need to remove/replaces gutters. Guys workaround them by removing screws from parts where were installing it. All dripping edges got done much better then before to prevent water hitting fascia boards. Recommend the guy. Speaking with owner was a pleasure. Thank you Brent.

Brent and his crew did a fantastic job! We couldn't be happier with the improvement it has made towards the appearance of the house. Multiple neighbors around the block have even stopped by to comment on how impressed they were with the whole process. Both Brent and his crew were very friendly and answered any questions I had throughout the work. When I got home after work on the first day I couldn't believe that they had been able to tear off both of the roofs, repair the wood, renail the decking, install hurricane straps and and put on the peel and stick in one day . Amazing! The drip edge and shingles were then installed over the course of the next 2 days by a smaller crew who were equally friendly and professional. When they left, the place was always as clean as it was when they arrived. Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. Very happy we decided to go with B. Griffith on this project.

Brent was a pleasure to work with. After measuring our roof, he explained the various roofing options and answered our questions. Based on our conversation, we received quotes for four options the next day. After selecting the color and style we wanted, we gave Brent a deposit. Two weeks later, we received a call that they would be out the next day to begin work. The crew removed our old shingle roof and installed our new concrete roof and flat roof over the next eight days. The workmanship and finish exceeded our expectations. Their attention to detail on the decorative items (such as the rake feature) was impressive. I would highly recommend this roofing company.

Excellent! 10/10! Brent Griffiths over saw personally. Always available. Staff very helpful. Roofer removers & re fitters both excellent workers teams. Tidy, polite, very efficient. Even our city inspector said it was the best roofing job he'd seen in a long time. No hesitation to recommend.

It was a very positive experience. They had a guy come out, he was very friendly, he explained everything. He was nice, his workers were nice, they were polite, clean and did they work. It was a very pleasant experience. I'm very pleased with them. If I had a question I just made a call. He showed up like he said, and they were all very professional.

Meeting with the office manager, discussing the job was pleasant enough. Had to go to the office three times, due to a truck delivering material completely blocking the entrance. In discussing the contact with the office manager, who also did the notary?, we questioned the part about extras. We were told this would be discussed with us on site if it was needed. . Her wording was " we don't know what your roof needs to we get started, are either of you guys going to be there while the work is being done? We said we should be there, but if we leave we would make sure the foreman knew how to get in touch with us." This satisfied the office person and us. We had looked up reviews on this company and talked with neighbors who had used them as well. We had several proposals Even though some of the proposals were cheaper, we like the way this company laid out what they would do and the material they would use. When the workers arrived, they were very nice and respectable to us and our property. They were at our home for several days and always helpful, cleaned up before they left, and worked hard. We were home every day they work and talked with them often. We were told the roof was in good shape and the only problem was the nails. When we left we would ask if they needed anything, how was things going, and to please call us if there were any concerns. On the last day we were leaving and would not be back before they left. We asked the foreman how things went and was there any extras or problems. He said we had a good roof and he did not see any problems. We asked him if we needed to leave a check. He said the office would get in touch with us the following week. When we returned home we were very please with the look, the clean up, the roof, and the workers. On Monday I received the bill and it was almost a $1000 more than the contract. I called the office at 3 pm and received no answer, but left a message. The office manager, no name given, returned my call after 4 pm. She started right off telling me all the problems our roof had and the work that was done. I listened, even though I had company, which she didn't give me a chance to tell her, then I said that the worker said we had a good roof with no real problem. She then said and my company could hear her, she said wait, you just wait, our worker did not say that and they do not say anything to you. I then ask her about saying it would be discussed with us if extras were needed. Again she said, you stop, that was never said, we don't know how much work your roof will need until work it is started. (the last part was stated before). I then said hold on I don't like the way you are talking to me or your attitude. She said she didn't have an attitude and we owed the money. She continue to say she would set up a payment plan for us to pay the extra money. My company was astounded as they said I didn't say anything about not paying or needing a payment plan. I then told her we would talk later, in which she said "have your husband call me and I will discuss this with him, then she hung up! No, we appreciate your business, we will be glad to go over the report the workers turned in, or even go to H! She hung up! This is such a bad customer service company. Again the work, the workers, all great, but the customer service makes me give this company a F. In today, a lot of company are pricing their work to be competitive. What sells customers are the service, the work, and the review. I hope Brent looks at this review and realizes his company will loss business due to his customer service. Please do not use this company as they are good workers, but they are not trustworthy. This problem has not been resolved. If and when this is resolved I will continue this review as I want to give this company a fair chance to prove me wrong.

Response from B Griffith Roofing Inc
This lady is absolutely unbelievable. She called the office with a terrible, terrible attitude about having $700+ worth of woodwork which, in our professional opinion and in our crew's opinion, is minor, compared to a lot of customer's homes in which they had to replace a lot more woodwork than this. She should actually be quite thankful it was such a minimal amount especially for her home having previous termite damage, but she is not. She called in being quite haughty about her bill and she kept talking over the office manager who was trying to explain to her about the woodwork and the necessity of it having to be replaced due to the fact that we warrant the roof for 10 years and don't want our customers to have leakage problems even after their 10 year warranty has expired. She was having no part of listening to this and kept talking and angrily saying how "she" wasn't notified of the wood, etc. etc. She kept talking over the office manager the same way she talks over, and kept talking over, her husband the day they brought their paperwork in. He would start to say something or answer a question, and she would talk right over him or answer it for him! Not a very nice way to be. She was the same way when she called in and the office manager kept asking her " please stop taking over me, let me explain" to no avail. She is the one who hung the phone up on her and then she proceeded to file this report on Angie's list. If you read the last phrase "if we don't get this resolved, I will continue with this report". She was trying to blackmail us into giving her a discount on her wood by holding this review over our head (possibly she is the one who needs extra money for the holidays??!!) which is why we never responded. We do not encourage customers who try threatening or blackmailing our company to get what they want. It is listed on our contracts that woodwork is an extra cost above and beyond the proposal price and when a customer accepts their proposal, they are also accepting that woodwork, if needed, will be extra. As for her saying her husband wasn't notified, that is incorrect - Carol called her husband after member hung up on her and her husband had said that yes, he was sitting in the front yard the whole time the roof was being tore off and that yes, the crew leader did go over the bad wood with him. Carol then explained to him that she continually talked over her the same way she did him when they came into the office and her husband responded "how well I know that". When Carol asked him "why is she so mean, why is she so mad at the world" he said, "here, why don't you ask her" and handed her the phone in which she could be heard saying "I don't want to talk to her" and she hung the phone up. Today, we received a complaint, which we are definitely going to respond the same way to, by the BBB from this member (which by the way, in this complaint she states "neither my husband nor I "remember" a conversation with the crew foreman. So obviously she is contradicting herself by saying at first they weren't notified and now she is stating she doesn't remember?!) She also is trying to say that the girl in the office that notarized the NOC wasn't present, which, sorry to say member, she was present and was in the kitchen while you were in the office area, talking over your husband, and then you left to go sit out in the car because you had claimed someone was left out there by themselves. So yes, Carol saw Mr. [Member Name Removed] sign the notary form, saw his driver's license and was a witness to his signature. The other girl notarized it, although Carol is a notary, she didn't have her stamp in the office that day. So no wrongdoing was done and that's pretty audacious that now this member is trying to start crap for the poor girl in the office because she's upset about her woodwork and did not get her own way. So sad. For her to originally state that she contacted a couple of companies and that the pricing was comparable and yet she gave us a "D", makes no sense. We stand behind our work, our work is true quality workmanship. We stand behind our warranty, we are not going anywhere in the next 10 years. We stand behind this issue that her woodwork was minimal, that her husband was notified of the woodwork (he's probably afraid to admit this in front of her!) and we are sorry that she feels this way and truly hope her future interactions with contractors go easier and better and we truly hope that she tries to have a very Happy Holiday season!
