Second Nature Landscaping

Jim / Second Nature -- did my landscaping in the fall. In the course of doing the landscaping - Jim had to install a new watering system. Over the winter - I had to change some of the settings on the watering system which seemed to mess it up. I called Jim and he helped me reset my watering system so now all works great. Great follow through and of course went above and beyond helping me w/ something several months after he did my landscaping. Would strongly recommend using Second Nature.

My front yard looked really bad, I have been trying to get grass to grow without success. Jim came out, looked over the situation. He explained why grass would not grow in the areas where the oak roots came very close to the surface. He suggested leaving one of the larger hedges, while removing the Bird of Paridise along with a smaller hedge. He then used a stump griinder to remove the oak tree roots near the surface. That took one day. The next day he planted some new plants, laid the sod and mulched. He also adjusted all my sprinklers to ensure proper watering. He followed up a day or so later, asking how I liked the job, mentioning that if I was not satisfied, he would return and correct anything I didn't like. I was very pleased and told him so.

Eveything went very smoothly and required only 3-4 days which we thought was great for such a large project. Jim was always on site himself.

He and his crew were prompt, professional and efficient. At the end of each day, they made sure the job site was clean and that my wife and I were updated on the progress. After everything was installed, he explained how to water, how to maintain and what to expect as far as how it would grow and fill in. Jim has even stopped by a few times since then (it was completed in November) just to check on the progress. I was very impressed and have already referred him to a friend.

Great job. Jim is prompt, professional and responsive. He went above and beyond what we hired him to do by taking me to his wholesale nursery to pick plants to replace those he was removing. Very few professionals will take time to really educate their clients. We are new to Florida and found his expertise very helpful.

They dug up our back yard and rearranged some plants and trees. They did a good job and the quality of their work was fine.

Jim was great. He responded to our first enquiry right away. He was puctual and professional when we met for the free estimate. He offered suggestions about the job and gave a fair price for the work. The job was completed quickly and cleanly and just as promised. We will happily work with Jim again when we move on to the next phases of our landscaping project.

We recently purchased a short sale in St. Pete. The yard was terribly overgrown. I called Jim to help with laying sod & doing the landscaping. I interviewed several landscapers and Jim really impressed me w/ his knowledge of the plants, and what would survive where we lived. After having the yard cleaned out by another contractor - I brought Jim in to help w/ the design / install of our landscaping. He did an amazing job working w/ the existing plants we had bought, as well as new ideas. Jim also went the extra length to fix our sprinkler system because he was concerned our new plants and sod would not survive if that was not addressed. Overall - excellent experience. I'm so pleased. We are out of town-ers - and were not sure who to trust. Before Jim - I dealt w/ 3 "landscapers" who were anything but landscapers. Jim is the real deal. He's honest and respectable. He will be up front w/ his opinion on things which I respect. If you're looking for a "real" landscaper you can trust - definitely trust Second Nature.

My goal was to have a maintenance, worry free, attractive yard. What I had was an overgrown, weed infested garden area and walled in garden. I asked that it all be ripped up in the front area, a palm tree moved to the back yard and the walled in garden be filled with something that was pretty and low maintenance. Jim suggested that I have the front cleaned out, made a little smaller and put in a new cement border. He also suggested some plumbago for the walled garden area. The job was put on hold until I returned from a vacation trip. Once the job started, he had a helper that cleaned up everything, laid down a weed barrier and covered the area with river rocks. I had some of the plants that were in the garden previously cleaned up and placed in large ceramic pots. The pots were then placed on the rocks and it looks so clean, yet very pretty. The plumbagos are just what the walled garden needed, it has really softened the look of the house. Overall I was very pleased with the work that was done and the results. I now have a nearly maintenance free front yard and I am loving it!

Jim is very responsive, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Job turned out very well. Yard looks great!

Jim was delayed by rains but started the work on Monday, 9/15 and completed the entire job on Tuesday, 9/16. He walked the side yard with me & explained how the sand against the two houses would enhance the ditch/swell he did created. When we walked into the backyard, I could NOT believe my eyes - it was like a tropical paradise! Keep in mind when we bought this house 2 years ago, there were only patches of grass and rest was just sand. Now we have a beautiful backyard with grass that will keep our soil from running off into our back neighbor's yards. The neatest thing was watching our two Vizsla's exploring the grass and mulch & actually enjoying having something other than sand to walk on. Jim said he under-estimated the mulch but insisted that he wouldn't charge us. He also rented 3 sod cutters and 2 of them were defective & that cost him 2 hours more than he had counted on. Jim recommended gutters on the side of our home to prevent problem from re-occurring and he will be doing when landscaping slows down. The gutters will keep the runoff from the roof from deteriorating the ground next to our home and run it out to the ditch/swell. We are THRILLED!

James was very easy to work with when coming up with the design and estimate. He also worked around an uncertain schedule associated with getting a reclaimed water system installed. He finished on time and within the budget we had for the project. The new yard looks fantastic. We love it and our neighbors are thrilled that we have made the investment.

I thought that he was good. He communicated with us and informed us of what his thoughts were for our lawn. He returned our phone calls promptly, and was very attentive to what we were wanting. Everything is doing great and growing very well. He did a fine job and I would use him again.

Jim and his crew did a very good job overall: they were punctual and professional and very receptive The paver installation also has been done very professionally Our regular sprinkler guy could not fix a few problems ,which Jim fixed very easily all in all a job very well done : we will definitely recommend Jim to our friends

He had to get some other licensed professionals to help with the job. It was a large job.

Very prompt -- both in terms of responding to my first call and staying on top of getting the job done promptly and properly. (Took a couple of weeks to get the job scheduled and done, but that was due to my own schedule needs.) Kept me informed about what was being done and recommendations on how to handle unanticipated issues.

James met me promptly when he said he would. We walked the property and discussed all items in detail. As I was not ready to do the work immediately, he provided me a written estimate which was very detailed and organized. I selected James as I felt he would do the best work. James and his crew performed the work while I was away in Sarasota and when I returned I was extremely impressed. Everything on the list was done beyond expectation. The beds were in outstanding shape without weeds or indian hawthorne, the mulch was robust, and the trees were trimmed precisely. He and crew did an excellent job. Everything went very well. I was looking for design ideas as I am unfamiliar with this area. Jim made several suggestions and steered me in the direction of low maintenance but attractive plants. The job was completed quickly and the workers were all courteous. We think the house looks great and have received several complements. I expect that we will use Second Nature for work in the future.

James did a great job. He gave a detailed estimate before the work and held to it. He did the job quickly and efficiently.We are very pleased with the way our yard looks. This is the second time we used James for our landscaping and we will continue to use this company for any work we may need.

The yard looks beautiful. I felt confident in his ability from the beginning and he didn't disappoint me. He patiently answered all of my questions and offered solutions to problems. We have hired him for the monthly maintenance of our yard.

This work was for a small guest house we purchased for our numerous guests and visitors. We purchased the home from an estate, as an elderly man had owned the home for many years and was unable to care for the yard. The yard had primarily become "nut-grass" and weeds. Jim did an exceptional job, providing me with both ideas and options based on price. As I had a limited budget, I needed a plan that would allow me to totally redo a large front yard as well as a small backyard that had serious drainage problems. Jim regraded the backyard, resloped the side yard and stopped the drainage issue. He then recommended a very economical mixing of both lava rock and mulch which saved me money, yet looks very nice. His plant selection was also excellent for the Florida climate. As I have no ability with plants at all, Jim advised us on plants and shrubs that are both easy to care for and again economical. The plants have been in since Jan, it's now late March...the plants look great as does the sod he layed. The sod has become a very thick, healthy lawn. His sprinkler installation was also very professional. We had the city connect us to reclaimed water, which meant Jim had to wait their schedule to perform final hook-ups. No problem, Jim worked with our schedule, which meant he had to pull sod out and then replace. Overall, we plan to hire Jim again to work on our primary home once our budget recovers. Jim's price was great, his service was outstanding, and he did the work he promised.

Everything happened as planned. Wells were dug one day and the team dug the trenches and laid pipes and installed the sprinklers. I have a rather large yard so it took a couple of days. Jim took the time to show me how to program the sprinkler timer system and made sure that the system was working properly, well after the job was done.

Very pleased with the new lawn. Jim listened to what I wanted and came up with a clean and easy to maintain design that can be added to as the time goes on. Took a lot of time to explain which types of plants would work well and which plants would not last. The entire team was hard working and fastidious.

Jim is very knowledgeable about the proper plants for this climate and was willing to spend the time to make sure we would be happy for the final outcome. He was professional from start to finish. Honest, prompt, courteous, easy to work with, the final price was exactly the bid (even though it took a little longer than planned). If you are looking to improve your lawn Second Nature is the company to call. I will definitely use them again and I have been telling all my friends what a great job they did.

Jim did an excellent job. He and his two assistants worked hard for a day and a half, and the results were excellent. Using some of the palm trees already there, Jim added other flotida-base flowers and plants to balance off the project. He also laid new sod in other areas of the yard where it was needed. He also advised us on the care of the new plants. He took a lot of pride in his work and made sure we were satisfied. I would certainly use Jim for any other landscape work we would like to have done.
