+ -1 moreI had an area about 5 sf of old 1920's plaster ceiling removed for mold remediation, it was a ragged and crumbly hole with rusting wire lathe cut into jagged ends. In less than 2 hours, John was able to lathe and plaster the hole and match the finish of my ceiling perfectly. Highly impressed. Will definitely use again.

Description of Work: John was impeccable. Spot on from estimate to completion. His lovely wife handled appointments and schedules with professionalism and courtesy. Job consisted of old house lathe and plaster walls. I had removed a wall in my home not original to house and left exposed lathe and plaster decay. Removing wall now connected 2 rooms together with unmatched wall treatments and did not blend well together. I had removed a in wall a/c unit and again a huge open space was left in lathe. My home is older bungalow and over years prior owners had also removed wall a/c unit but left walls poorly Repaired. There were unprofessional rough plaster patches and years of wall cracks and decay. Also holes in ceilings and walls from recent electrical repairing of house. John also de-popcorn-ed my kitchen ceiling and re-plastered it to blend in with adjoining ceiling. When John was thru my rooms looked as one with all smooth walls that matched. It was so satisfying to view and after painting the walls there is a consistent flow. The kitchen ceiling I hated had no more popcorn and also now perfect. Did I say I also put in attic stairs in kitchen ceiling and left gaping holes all now gone. Had a small issue after the job that I had not noticed before and called John. John could not have gotten there quick enough to solve the issue. I would highly recommend and use over and over again. Price for job was great for amount of work and time needed. John also left the home neat and clean. He always taped and plastic sheeted areas he worked in and contained any mess during his job. Senior discount was just an extra bonus on a great job.

Description of Work: John replastered 3 walls. He worked hard all day untill it was perfect. It seemed a little pricy for one day but I feel it was worth it. The three walls had different textures. He matched each one perfectly. Now that the walls are painted again no one would know that they once had big holes where the old windows were. I'm very satisfied and will use him again. His wife does the booking and she stayed in touch with me to make sure that the job was done on time. Very nice reliable family business.

+ 0 moreThe job was completed to my expectations. It did take double the time (quote was 1 week, it took 2 weeks and 2 days to complete). But this was understandable due to 2 days of rain, adding the decorative coins and the birth of a new grandbaby. John also asked if I minded him completing a one day job that was at risk of getting canceled, which I was fine with. John was very detailed and I felt he took the time to make sure it was done right. I am very happy with the work that was done.
Description of Work: I had stucco applied to the exterior of my home, as well as 2 new attic vents installed and 2 half walls removed. Based on conversations with John after he started the job, I added decorative coins, which were applied to each corner of the house.

Description of Work: Not exactly sure on the date and $$, but our experience with John was refreshing! By this, I mean he was prompt, neat, polite and took great pride in his workmanship. It's not just every day that you meet someone that is all of these things, in addition to being skilled at his/her trade. John did a job where he had to stucco four 2' x 2' columns, along with the exterior of our Florida room to match the columns. SUPER JOB.....we would hire John again in a heartbeat!!

+ -1 moreWe called John for an estimate based on a very high recommendation from a former boss of his. He arrived promptly and was honest about being unable to give a proper estimate since demolition had not yet been done on the project. Based on our understanding of the scope, he gave us a ballpark figure of $2,000. Our biggest concern was his ability to match the original 1935 plaster texture as closely as possible since some walls would not be touched by the renovation. We also were removing a wall between two rooms and he would have to transition the plaster from there to the new space. John was confident - one might even say cocky - that he could do the job. We liked that. When the time came for his part in our renovation to start, he arrived every day promptly and completely prepared to work. He worked a full shift each day with no noticeable breaks. He was pleasant to have in our home and I was comfortable giving him our house keys when, midway through the project, I had to return to the office instead of working from home. John's work is meticulous. There is virtually no hint of transition and we're pleased with what he was able to achieve matching old and new. John works alone so the job may have taken a bit longer to complete however the quality was worth it. Our final bill came to $2,300 - very close to his "ballpark" figure. We'd hire him again in a minute.
Description of Work: Due to a kitchen renovation, we needed 1935 plaster walls restored and matched as closely to the original finish as possible, along with new walls. The job required hanging blueboard in some places, repairing holes and blending surfaces from one room into another.

Description of Work: John did the original removal of popcorn ceiling from interior of entire home and resurfaced with plaster. I had John come back to patch a spot in the ceiling and wall where I removed a foyer entry knee-wall. John did an EXCELLENT job matching the ceiling the remaining plaster and matching the wall where the original knee-wall was removed. I would recommend A-Plus Plastering to anyone needing such work. John is very professional and does meticulous work!

Showed up on time, did a walk through to get an overview of all the work that needed to be done, set up plastic to protect everything and worked for two days. Everything came out great. He's my plaster guy.

+ -1 moreIn the process of going with a different home insurer, an inspection revealed some areas that needed to be addressed immediately, specifically some stucco repair. Bill Livingston came highly recommend on Angie's list so I called him up. Turns out, he's no longer doing stucco repair but he recommended "A Plus Plastering" as John, the owner, used to be his go-to stucco guy. "A Plus Plastering" had fewer but reports on Angie's but they were still stellar so I gave him a call. He promptly came out, took a look at the problem and gave me an estimate. I felt it was a fair deal and he came across as trustworthy so we set up a time for him to come out. He arrived in the morning and was finished by early afternoon. Not only did he take care of all the cracks that the inspector found, he also discovered some other ones that needed fixing so he took care of those as well. The replaced window sill looks amazing as does the repaired cracks. He did a great job. He also gave me some advice regarding the soon to be needed repainting of our house and said to make sure it's properly sealed before applying any paint. He took great pride in his work and I can wholeheartedly recommend A Plus Plastering for any stucco repair.
Description of Work: Repair work of stair-stepped cracks in exterior stucco in addition to replacing a cracked off window sill.

+ -1 moreAs my house was being power washed a section of plaster (3X5) became detached. I live in California and the house is located in St Pete's Beach FL. I Called A Plus Plastering and they gave me an estimate of $200.00. The work was completed without slowing down the painting that was scheduled. The painter was very impressed by the quality of the work. My only communication was by telephone and I was always kept in contact as things progressed.
Description of Work: During a power washing of a house that I was having painted a 3'X5' the section of plaster became detached from an exterior wall. I called A Plus and they gave me an estimate of $200.00 to replaster the area. The work was preformed without holding up the painting.

+ -1 moreThe house had been badly in need of painting and replastering for 30 years. In 2006 I started contracting different people to help with the work. Until we found Mr Sciandra, we had one "plaster disaster" after another. But thanks to him, we now have a beautiful downstairs living space. Over a year has passed since he completed his last project, but everything is as pristine as the day he finished. Mr S is very careful in his work. The living and dining room ceilings have the original crown molding, and the floors are the original heart-of-pine. I was very happy that we didn't have to do any "clean up" when he was gone. In fact, every now and then he let me watch, and it was inspiring to see a master craftsman at work. Finally, it was very pleasant and reassuring to have Mr Sciandra around.
Description of Work: Mr Sciandra replastered the downstairs ceilings and walls of our 1923 bungalow: the living room, dining room, small bedroom, hallway, bath, and kitchen. The lathe understructure in one section of the living room ceiling was completely exposed and required extra attention. Also, the outside wall of the bedroom had extensive water damage, which he repaired.

In his ad, it states he will match any texture. I had three different areas plastered, and he perfectly matched the texture in each instance. I would highly recommend him to others.

+ -1 moreTheir quote was expensive so another contractor was chosen to do the work. A-plus sent a bill for $50 for quoting the job and a letter stating that we were dishonest and misleading. They never told us that there would be a charge for quoting the job, and all other contractors never charge a fee for quotes. The letter they sent was insulting and unnecessary.
Description of Work: Asked them to quote some plaster repairs to exisiting drywall.

He was prompt, conscientious, and his price was a great value since it took him most of the day.. Great care was taken to prepare and cover all my furniture, flooring and walls. There is a real difference between a handiman who can slap plaster on the wall and John who is a true artisan.
Description of Work: After having two skylights removed from our living room ceiling, we needed the holes inside repaired to blend into the remaining interior surface.
