The Wallpaper Store

We went to The Wallpaper Store to select paper for our kitchen. After looking at some books, we asked if we could check books out to take home. The associate said it would be $20 per book, returnable within two days. AT NO TIME DID SHE SAY THE DEPOSIT WAS NON-REFUNDABLE UNLESS WE PURCHASED FROM THEM. We selected two books and I signed for them and paid $40.00. Admittedly. I did not read the "fine print", which says "deposits paid on all samples will be credited to any purchase made within six months of the due date." When my husband returned the books, they told him our "deposit" could only be used on a purchase from their store. When he objected and told them we had not been told that, the individual said that was their policy and they were the only wallpaper store in town! My husband cited Sherwin-Williams' policy of no deposit at all to take books out, and the individual responded that Sherwin Williams was going out of business, leaving their store (The Wallpaper Store) the only one in Sarasota! So, we paid $40 just to look at their samples. What a poor business policy! I would also like to add that when we first visited the store, the owner or manager was openly and loudly arguing with a customer. That should have been our clue to leave. Legally, I suppose their "fine print" covers them, but this was a very costly and extremely unpleasant experience.
