The unit was installed it on May 7,2009 and we it didn't work. We had to have the electrician come back and he spoke with the Tankless service tech. He checked all the voltages and ohm readings on the unit. He found two of the elements were not reading the proper ohms. Tankless sent us two new heating elements to replace 2 of the original 4 elements that came with they system. We replaced the two elements and the unit still did not work. We went through it a second time and found out the new elements they sent us were the wrong voltage. We had to exchange those elements and replace those elements for a second time with the correct ones. This now brought us into the summer when we didn't need a hot water heater for the pool. The second week of September we turned the unit on and it failed to work. We called Tankless and they asked us to clean the pressure switch which we did, and it still did not respond.. We called back and they suggested that in the spring that we uninstall the heater and send it back to them to troubleshoot and repair. We closed the pool for the season. We sent the heater to Tankless on March 4th 2010, and they sent it back May 13, 2010. The electrician reinstalled the heater and it worked for 4 weeks. We turned the heater off the middle of June, it was no longer needed because the summers warmth heated the pool naturally. We turned it back on in mid-September and It worked till the end of the season. We turned the unit back on at the end of May, 2011. The unit powered up and the screen showed it was working but the heating elements didn't turn on to heat the water. The unit would randomly turn on and off but not according to the settings in the control. We called Tankless when we realized the erractic operation and they wanted to speak to our electrician to try and figure out the problem. While we were waiting for the electrician to arrive to service the unit, one of the heat exchangers which are located inside the heater box, sprung a leak, soaking the heater including the electronic control. The heater would no longer turn on. We also cancelled the electrician's service call. We talked to the owner of Tankless, Chuck Hicks on Wednesday, July15th and he told us that they had developed a stainless steel heat exchanger that would NOT have the same problem as the copper heat exchangers as far as leaking. Chuck said the cost was between $500 and $650 for the Stainless Steel Exchangers and I agreed to pay for the upgrade if he was going to replace our unit with a new unit. He asked us to call him the next day. We called again and left a message. We called again on Friday, the 17th and left a message. On Monday, July 20th we received a message from his Manager Jose. We tried to reach him and left messages and on Thursday, July 23rd, his secretary told us that Jose had minor surgery and would call us on Friday. We finally talked to Jose on Monday, July 25th and he told us that it would cost $1000 for the upgrade. We told him what Chuck had said to us and he told us that was the price and that they had to make a profit, too. We told Jose they made a profit on the original unit and that heater was defective and not the quality product we expected from Tankless. It gave us limited service for the short peroid of time it was installed. We told Jose, that we would like to just exchange the unit without the upgrade and he said he would not do that. We told him that Tankless should stand behind the defective unit, Jose said "SUE ME" and hung-up. Jack and Mary Ellen Drexler
