Counter top & cabinets look beautiful, excellent installation. Had one problem with the plumbers (Premier plumbing). Think they were subcontracted?? The pipe under the sink had a major leak right after the water was reconnected, quite a mess. Kirkplan was very responsive and took care of everything.

Extremely poorly, initial installer missed studs, hacked the new cabinets, and did not attach or shim new cabinets properly. They did repair /replaced most of the damage but the time spent by us waiting for this was unacceptable. Finally after refusing to allow the first installer to continue they sent a replacement who took care of the issues. The people who oversee the job progress are not always available, respond to calls, and have little knowledge of proper installation techniques. There were issues with most of the vendors including plumbing, electrical, and Coastal Kitchens who installed the counter tops. The counter tops had little contact with the base cabinets and nobody seemed concerned, again the final installer remedies this issue when I asked him to. It's been 2 months and we are finally coming to completion, an extremely disappointing experience.

Excellent! We have used Kirkplan over the years; a new kitchen, new bathrooms and most recently, a smaller project which was the wet bar. We would never consider looking any where else. Their cabinets are very well constructed and if there is a problem, they make it right. Everyone connected with Kirkplan is very professional.

Description of Work: We engaged Kirkplan to replace our small 8x10 kitchen with all-wood cabinets, quartz counter tops and modern tile back splash. When Todd gave us the bid, he included all the elements we wanted and gave us a preliminary layout. And an estimate that the time would be 3 weeks. Measurements were verified by a different team member. An 'existing condition' survey was not completed, although a blank one was in our folder. | |In the design, some of the cabinets moved by an inch or two, and some of the sizes were changed by an inch or two. A wide sink cabinet was changed to a narrower one with a tray cabinet beside it. | |What we did NOT realize, and what the survey measure guy did NOT realize and what our cabinet installer did NOT realize is that the walls around the refrigerator (which did not move, but was replaced by a larger one) were not square nor were they plumb. And that gaps in the existing tile floor when the old cabinets were removed would potentially cause problems for the new refrigerator which could not be placed over the gaps. The new cabinets were installed such that the new refrigerator did not fit in the space, and its side was slightly creased when *someone* (not us, and everyone on the job said 'not us either') pushed the fridge into a spot which was too small for it. | |The opening size was eventually adjusted by removing the light rail trim return and the existing chair rail beside and behind the refrigerator. The crease on the side is still there if you look for it. All of which is only part of our basis for a "B" rating. | |Our main issue: We thought we would have a single consistent Kirkplan contact person to deal with regarding scheduling, questions, and progress reports on the job -- the whole job. That was not the case. We would receive calls variously from the 'scheduler' or from the cabinet installer or from the counter top people or the tile guy or the electrician ... We made arrangements with our own handyman to have the tile floors patched under the stove and refrigerator after the cabinets were installed. We could have had that done after demo but didn't know gaps would occur in the tile floor and be an issue based on the new layout. And we were frustrated by receiving callbacks from the cabinet installer, even after his work was complete, when we called the office to speak to --- well, I guess he was the scheduler. We could not find the person who kept track of our total project. | |The quality of the cabinets is excellent and they do look terrific. And we love love the quartz counter tops. And the tile back splash looks great. | |For those reasons I would use Kirkplan again, my husband not so much -- since we could not figure out who to speak to and how to find out what was going on when. During the course of the project, we extended our stay in FL from 4 weeks to 6, then finally went back north. | |Final payment happened in early November, after I returned to FL to do a final inspection. Punch list items (other than mentioned above) were dealt with very expeditiously. | |So, fellow Angie's List-ers, be prepared to keep track of your project like you are the GC based on our experience. We ended up with a great quality kitchen but the process seemed unnecessarily frustrating. Maybe our job was too small, and maybe Kirkplan has too much success selling and is too busy.

When I made the appointment I explained in detail what we were wanting to do with the kitchen. When Todd Kreig arrived and entered the kitchen he immediately began looking at our new appliances and made the comment "Oh, I see you didn't waste any time getting your new appliances and walked over to our fridge and OPENED IT. I thought it was unprofessional that he would make himself at home so quickly. During his visit he made several comments I found either insulting or just unprofessional. Such as: "I'm not sure why your husband needed to be here - the wife is the one that makes all of the decisions about the kitchen anyway" - to which I replied that we have been married almost 30 years because we make decisions like this together. When discussing structural changes he said "I'm not sure you'll understand this (looking my way) so I'll explain for Dallas" (my husband). He began up-selling us right away to go with Quartz. When I was explained to him that I really wanted Granite he made a sour face and started shaking his head saying "nobody puts in Granite anymore". Then he began giving me false statistics about the small percentage of granite being installed these days (I know they are false because I checked.) Once he provided us a quote (verbally) of $9,225, I asked him how much of this was for reducing the high-bar and removing/haul away the counter-tops ...because we could do that our self to save some money. He replied "I'm not even charging for the removal/hall away, and you may save a few hundred for the reduction of the high-bar." He never did provide a detail quote and while I was pressing him for a break down he said "this is a big kitchen" I replied that I thought it to be average size and that my kitchen in Tallahassee was much larger and had granite as well. He replied "I doubt it was bigger than this". (basically saying I'm exaggerating or not telling the truth ...how insulting is that?). So, he never did quote the granite I had asked for - only a quote for Quartz. He wrote the amount on a business card, with no details. I called several other granite installers for quotes after this experience and had no issues. They all provided details with a breakdown so we could choose what we may want to do ourselves. We now have a beautiful kitchen with Granite counters and granite back-splash... and it cost us almost 50% less then Todd's quote. We removed and hauled away counter-tops and reduced the high-bar ourselves. I share this story with everyone who asks us amout our kitchen remodel
Description of Work: Called Kirkplan Kitchens for a quote to remove and haul away Formica Counter-tops and replace with Granite. Lower the existing high-bar and raise the kitchen desk to counter-top height. Also a new kitchen sink.

Description of Work: This was in 2003. |I was without a kitchen for over 4 months because of delays and mistakes. |Two incidents where the threads of cabinet handles were stripped and they just glued the handles to the screws. I found this out several months later. |I ordered a wood panel for the front of the dishwasher. They substituted a laminate panel without telling me. |The granite I order was repeatedly cracked during installation. After 3 attempts to install a granite counter top, I gave in an accepted a cracked counter top. |

Description of Work: Our sales rep Brian Higgins was fantastic. We spent close to 9 months planning and researching before we signed the contract and he was very patient and made all the adjustments and upgrades we asked for as part of the final plan. All the contractors involved were responsive and professional and we love the way our kitchen turned out it was completed the day before Thanksgiving so we were able to use it on the big day! I would use them again for future upgrades to the laundry room, baths, etc.

We were very satisfied with them. They came here and were always available. We think it was a better deal than the others we checked. There were a few little flaws, but they were all taken care of. They said it would take a month and it took a month. Their price was better than the others that we compared. We will surely use them again in the future.

We had four estimates given from local companies. We decided on Kirkplan kitchens because they impressed us from the start. We entered thier showroom with someone who really seemed to care in our needs for the project. He showed some different materials in the look that we had described and took the time to explain about the different products. We made an appointment and had Brian Higgins our designer come out who showed us products in our home. He then continued to measure the kitchen and did a design on how it would look in our home. Wow was we impressed, my husband and I where very happy with Brian and really thought that he was going to be over our budget. He presented us with a price on the day and it was very close to what we had in mind. The two other companies that we had in before Kirkplan just measured and said that they will get back to us with a price. The other company that came in after Kirkplan did not seem interested in our needs. All they did was to bash and bad mouth the other companies including Kirkplan. We ruled them out immediately. The two other companies gave us price after we made several phone calls. We asked them to come out and show us the materials they had planned for us. Both said we had to go to thier showroom to select the materials. We then had to bring the cabinet doors and countertops back ourselves to our home and then go return them back to the showroom. Unlike Kirkplan we had to do alot of running around. The one thing that made us not go with Kirkplan so quickly was some of the bad reviews that we had read online. We spoke to Brian about this he explained that any body can right anything about any body online. If a customer puts thier name to it that we can address the problem. Brian told us that they have been in business 15 years and only have a small handful of compliants, considering that they have completed over 12,000 projects to date upto $280,000. He sent us to a customer of his that had just completed thier project to reassure us. He was very sincer and we want to thank Brian for all his hardwork. We placed an order with Brian and told him that we had be completed by the end of May due to us leaving for the summer. The project did go over by 4 days but in the scheme of things we did not care. We have a kitchen that exceeded our expectations. Every person that was involved in our project was very personable, clean and a true craftsman. We had no issues and everything that Brian had told us happened. Very Happy with everything Kirkplan had done for us, we will be doing our bathrooms with Kirkplan next year.

Extremely satisfied - my new kitchen is beautiful. Encountered one snag when the counter installers showed up to install my counter and I hadn't been contacted by them to set the appointment. I wasn't home when they arrived on a Saturday. I called and left a message for Jim and/or Nigel at Kirkplan, which was closed, and within 30 minutes had a return call from Jim apologizing for the problem and promising me the counter installation would happen early the next week. Within 30 minutes of Jim's call I received a call from the counter folks asking if they could install on Monday, which they did. The cabinet installer, Josh, was very friendly and explained various things to be as he was installing. He came back to do a final check after counter, back splash, electrical and plumbing were all completed, and made a few tweaks on things. He made a point of asking me whether I was satisfied and if there were any things that I wasn't happy with, and took care of all of them. They did a fantastic job. My only complaint, per se, would be the time between the contract signing and actual installation, however, I ordered custom cabinets so the materials had to be ordered and the cabinets built.

I have called them back a couple of times to make repairs. they split the wood and had to replace a section. They did not finish the kickplate. The pull-out drawers had to be reset because they used the wrong types of hardware. The plumbing faucet kept unscrewing so that needed to be repaired. What I have found out after the fact was that everything was jobbed out - installers, plumbing, countertops, tile work. All independent contractors with noone accepting responsibility for the work done. I also learned, the hard way, that picking out a design and have the salesperson write down the 'stock numbers' aren't necessarily the numbers for the design you picked out. Like I ordered tumbled tile for the backsplash and got glazed tiles. All in all it was a disasterous experience.
Description of Work: Replace a small 10ft. kitchen cabinets. I ended up with less shelf space. These were NOT custom cabinets. They were off the shelf stock cabinets. Narrower and shorter than what they replaced. The extra space was covered by spacers to give the illusion that the cabinets were taller and longer that what they were. Was promised soft-close drawers but were not included. The worst was the backsplash. The tiles I chose were tumbled tiles. What I got were glazed tiles! And, these were installed very uneven-some are higher than others. When I clean the backsplash I have cut my fingers on them. They also did not finish off the edges of the tiles and the grout is starting to come off. They told me there was nothing they could do with the tile now that they had set up and I would just have to live with it!.

The company forgot to contact the granite people to have them do a template and was several weeks late in doing so. After I called Kirkplan about it they never answered or returned my phone calls after that. I finally had to go to the store and talk to them. The scheduler frequently lied to us which was confirmed by the granite installers.

These guys came in and bullied my wife right away. They told her that they were taking over our garage, and to get her car out of there. The main cabinet installer is a wise guy named Mike, and he expects us to allow him to work into the evening as late as he wants. He would work till 9pm or later if we would let him. When I told him that he has to stop at 6pm, he got very sarcastic and has stayed that way throughout the job. My wife told him that he can come as early as 7am if he wants to work longer hours, but he still shows up between 8:30 and 9 am. They brought the cabinets and stuffed them into the garage (without any permission) days before they were to go into the kitchen. When I questioned it the guy said ''so what are you gonna do, they're here now. They are doing any saw cuts in the driveway, because I told them not to cut in the garage. They set up the saw 3 ft outside the garage door and leave it open, so all of the saw dust still flies into the garage. Not enough space !!
