Derek called 10 minutes before he was supposed to arrive at our home to replace our water heater to tell us he couldnt get the permit through. (Apparently Derek thinks you can pick up a permit on the way to a job, thanks Derek for the advanced notice). Because we had permits for existing work the planning department simply didnt understand why Derek was coming in away from existing permits. I told Derek not to worry and that I would call the planning office. I immediately called the office and within 2 minutes had everything sorted (it was a water heater permit for gods sake). I then promptly called Derek (still before the time he was due to arrive) to let him know we had an ok for the permit. He told me had gone to another job and didnt want my job.... What? How does a contractor commit to a job, a time, and then at the time the service was scheduled say, "no thanks, I dont want your job". When I pleaded with him, explaining I had taken the afternoon off work, and that my wife and 2yr old son coudnt go without hot water he stated that if he did the work he would charge me double due to the extra effort with the permiting. This guy calls himself honest and dependable, but the truth is he is just another unprofessional guy who has a license and a white truck. He has no regard for his customers.
