DOWNS GLASS CO INC

It was a bad experience. We spent a lot of money with them. The screws have a special plating on them. It's black nickel. I went over there in person and had an exchange with the new secretary. I wanted them to provide the screws for free and they basically implied that I damaged the screws. I thought that was really poor because of the fact we spent tens of thousands of dollars with them before. They weren't nice about it at all. They refused to come out. I wasn't asking for them to come out. I was asking for the new screws. I said they were damaged by the original installation. I thought they should provide courtesy even though it has been 5 years since we built the home.

Beware of this unethical company! I sent them a 50% deposit (almost $6000) to install new exterior doors in my vacation rental condo. They scheduled installation for 2 different weeks during prime rental periods for me. I agreed to not accept rentals for each of those 2 times. The first time they did not show up was because ?the wrong doors had been shipped from the manufacturer.? The second time they simply did not show up, nor did they call. I had now lost 2 wks of rental income. I have made numerous phone calls to Downs Glass, all not returned. by them. I sent emails and registered letters stating that I would no longer do business with them and to return my full deposit. No response. On Oct. 15, 2014 they emailed me that they would be refunding my entire deposit by mail. It was never sent, now 3 months later. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and of this date (Jan 26, 2015) they have not responded to BBB. They answer to no one. I received, several weeks ago, on Jan 3, 2015, a letter from Sarasota County stating that my permit for the proposed door work was about to expire and that the ISSUE date was Aug 12, 2014, several months AFTER Downs Glass had scheduled the work to be done. Obviously, they could not perform the work without the permit, so they were lying about the schedule dates and subsequent ?no shows.? Their lack of ethics is unbelievable, and I am without the refund of my deposit in spite of their email to me. I have paperwork to back up every statement herein.

They measured incorrectly three different times which held our job up by several weeks! They were rude and unprofessional. They did not seal mirrors and when confronted about it had to admit they had not.
