Chimney Cricket

The service person did not have a camera and didn't examine the inside of the chimney with one after cleaning. A written report was never made. Also, the company never responds to phone calls in a prompt manner, but have to be called several times. I have never had a call back from these people. They charge for services never rendered, and left my chimney in an unusable condition.

A braggadocio's young woman showed up and announced that she was going to inspect and clean the chimney. I asked her how she was going to do it and she Said that she intended to clean it from the top down. I thought that was a little odd because the chimney cap is about 3 x 4' in dimension is made out of galvanized metal and is extremely heavy. Also, the spark arrester is riveted to the top of the galvanized flue. Anyway, she completed the job said everything was perfect and I gave her the check. She said that we should have no further problems with setting. Well we did have continued problems with setting and I brought the gas company over that installed the new burner and gas log set. He diagnosed that there was no updraft it all through the chimney. One thing led to another and going up in the attic it was discovered that the flu was in two separate pieces in other words not connected. So all this time we had been pumping smoking so it into our attic through this disconnected flu pipe and she somehow did not discover it when she did the cleaning. It would be physically impossible for her to clean the chimney from the top. The spark arrestor is riveted in place. This company subjected to my family to fire danger and health hazards and I am extremely angry. My advice would be don't touch these people with a 10 foot pole. They absolutely have no clue what they are doing. Oh, and by the way when I tried them tried to get them back to have a look at the problem again they gave me some date in the distant future and said that they were too busy over Christmas to take care of it right away. Duh, that's when we want to use the fireplace.. Now it's all fixed up now safe and sound no more soot and we're back to normal just don't touch these people with a 10 foot pole.

Work went well. A lot of material came out of the vent and was immediately vacuumed up by the service provider. The washer and dryer were put back in place when the work was completed.

The guy showed up on time, it felt like he was a sales man in work gear! He broke the handle to open the flue then try to have me purchase one for $250. If it was flemsy, he should have said that there is a possibility it might break before he touched it. Not break it and then try to sell me one. He said he was going to use the camera even though it was not included in the package. All he did was put a shop vac and left without me knowing if I could use it or not. I received a proposal about a week later of all the repairs needed approx $1,500.00 - I was better getting someone to de-glaze my fireplace because I would think they clean and de-glaze I would not recommend these guys, I'm happy to update my comments after someone else reviews my fireplace... Example If I hired someone to pressure wash my driveway, they don't charge me extra for the chemical....

Given the reviews I was very disappointed. The original representative who came to the house and told me what needed to be done no longer worked for the company. In addition, there was a new boss somewhere in the chain of command. Company problems should not become the customers problems. Communications were poor and I suffered as the customer. Also, no one seemed really sure of what needed to be accomplished, which did not help my confidence in the work completed. I asked for a break on the price to compensate for the inconvenience to me and the value of my time but the "new boss" said no.

The guy who came out said what he was installing would not actually close off the chimney but He said he would put something on top that would close the opening. It actually looks like a tin wrap. Hmmm seems like a lot of money for that. Shortly after the install I was looking at my roof and noticed that the cap has come loose on one side. I have repeatedly called with no return phone calls. I hate leaving a bad review but paid too much to not have this repaired. Also, the contract says a 2 year warranty.

Chimney Cricket completed cleaning my dryer vent. It was needed and afterwards my clothes is drying better (and our home is safer). They were on time, pleasant to work with and gave me tips on how to clean it myself to extend the time in between cleanings.

With a leak already existing, the flashing repair and the siding placement was necessary. With a hurricane on the way, this work was essential! Chris came late in the day after checking with me about the wind and rain. As the conditions were still good, he made the outside repairs. Afterwards, he came inside to sweep the chimney. All was clean and tidy when he had finished.

The job went very well, the workmen did a great job. They had to cut a hole in the back wall of the chimney from the outside and when they were finished you would never know they did anything. They cleaned up all the mess made and hauled the old parts away. I will say it took a long time for them to get the parts and schedule the work, but since it was spring time and I had no need for the fire place for many months I was in no rush so I didn't push them.

The person that did the work was very professional and did an excellent job.

The chimney sweep cleaning went very well. The entire chimney was swept and vacuumed and a safety inspection was completed. The chimney tech was very helpful and answered all questions.

They tried to sell me a lot of stuff that I did not need and I found out later; that is why I am giving them a low grade. The price was fine. The quality of the actual work was fine. Their punctuality was good.

Keri was wonderful! She was on time, came out and cleaned our chimney, and protected the area to make sure there was no mess. I will be using their company in the future and would highly recommend them to friends and family. My sister referred me to them, and it was very obvious that she made the right choice!

Excellent! Kari did an inspection of my chimney and identified all the problem areas. She discussed how best to correct the problems before actually having a fire so my home could be safe and what it will cost.

Prior to Tues, March 8, 2016, its been known for 11 years that there was no professional chimney sweep or safety inspection, or any real upkeep done to this one-story, single family home. Kari, the technician assigned to visit, had called me and announced she was on her way to the property within 20-30 minutes of the scheduled appointment time. She was very knowledgeable and professional and detailed from top to bottom of what areas needed the most attention. Kari took her time to thoroughly protect the interior area of my home around the fireplace from any loose debris, etc. before she started cleaning. I appreciated how she did not pressure me into anything on the spot, but that she was honest about a couple areas that need high priority, so as rainwater won't cause any additional damage and repair costs. When Kari went up on the roof, she used an iPad to take pictures, which was a nice feature to show me the "trouble spots" on top of the chimney and roof areas, via the photo gallery when she came back down. I was really impressed with Kari. Her experience and professionalism were top notch. I've never had previous experience with a chimney service before. In fact, I called other companies in the Tampa Bay area, only to never receive a call or any contact back for that matter. I am considering using Chimney Cricket (aka Chimnee Cricket) again for future service. I also feel the Angie's List Big Deal for this service was definitely worth the money spent! Thank you!

Very pleased with service. Kari arrived with trainee. She explained what they were doing and provided a good write up of current condition of chimney and swept the chimney. Prepared the area for cleaning and removed all soot. Cleaned doors on fireplace and surrounding area. A gray job all around. And she did a good job in working with/teaching the young man with her. Highly recommend.

Called this company and they came out to give us a quote promptly; the gal who came - Keri - was extremely knowledgeable and did a good job of explaining to us what the project would entail, what it would cost, and what the possible areas of additional cost might be, depending on how the demolition went. We had gotten two other quotes. We decided to go with Chimney Cricket, called their office and asked for Keri. Left a message....let three with none returned. Spoke to Renee in the main office that we wanted to proceed ahead with the quote. Gave her a credit card # for the deposit. Heard nothing further...hoped that they would show up on the agreed upon date.....which they did! On time, very professional, with Keri there to oversee. They did a wonderful job...very neat, very professional. When the job was 95% done, we hit a snag and things stopped briefly. When Keri said that she could schedule someone to come out in 4 days time to finish it up, this was unacceptable to us as we were leaving for a week's trip..and we told her we were not happy that the project was not 100% done. She came out to our home that very afternoon (on a Saturday) to finish it up and did not charge us for some additional costs that were incurred by them...the final cost was exactly as quoted. We would like to use this company again for another project....Keri and Bob have studied our needs. We are now waiting for our quote......this is the part where I worry that things will not happen!

I waited 1 week after my initial meeting and never received an estimate. So, on 1/13/2016, I called the company and advised the girl (Renee) on the phone of my problem. She told me that their server had been down for about a week and it was possible that my estimate got lost in that debacle. She took my number and email address and also told me that they didn't have my email address and perhaps that's why the estimate didn't get sent. One week later, I still didn't have an estimate. So, on 1/20/2016, I called again and talked with Renee. Again, she told me that their server had been down for about a week, but she would contact the technician and find out what happened to my estimate. I called again today (1/22/2016). There was no answer so I left a voice mail advising them that I never received my estimate. I said that I was guessing that they didn't want the job and that was fine, however, it would have been much more professional if they had contacted me and just told me that. However, If this is the way they conducted business that I didn't want to hire them anyway because I would be afraid that if I hired them, they just may not show up. So I told them that I would write a review in Angie's List of what happened to me. I left my name and numbers should they want to contact me.
