Horrible! Do not use this company for any of your moving needs.
Description of Work: I contacted Bekin Movers on July 16th, 2015 for information on an upcoming move from Tampa, FL to San Francisco, CA. After talking with a representative, I scheduled an appointment on August 4th for an in-home estimate at 9am. This appointment was "confirmed" by Steve Gates; the man who was coming to my home to provide me with an estimate. On August 3rd, the day before my scheduled appointment, I called Bekin customer service to confirm my appointment for the following day. I thought it was odd that I had not heard from Bekin since July 16th. I had two other appointments scheduled for in-home estimates on the same day and both companies called me to confirm. The women I spoke with at Bekin confirmed that Steve Gates would be arriving at my home between 9:00am-9:30am. At 5:30pm on Monday evening, August 5th I received a phone call from Steve Gates. I missed the phone call but he left me an voicemail. He was calling to CANCEL my appointment for 9am and needed me to reschedule it for Thursday August 6th. This is 15 hours before my scheduled appointment!!!!!! His reasoning was what baffled me. He explained that all of his other appointments for Tuesday August 4th were in a different county and he was going to be in my area on Thursday August 6th so I needed to reschedule for that day! I could not believe my ears! My fiancé, Nick Ring called Steve Gates almost immediately once I received the voicemail. Mr. Gates did not answer so Nick left a voicemail. Nick then called Bekin customer service. Before Nick could talk with someone from Bekin's main office, Mr. Gates was calling him back. Nick explained that rescheduling this appointment was not an option for us. If Mr. Gates could not make it, he had to send someone else to complete the estimate. Nick even provided him with other times that would work on Tuesday, August 4th. We were able AND willing to change the time of the appointment, but not the day. We had many reasons to be adamant that this confirmed appointment needed to go on as planned. 1.Our upcoming move from Tampa, FL to San Francisco, CA is for a job relocation with my fiancé's company. His company pays for the relocation but they require three estimates from three different companies. Nick's company knew these appointments were scheduled for this day and I told them I would have all three estimates to them by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 4th. 2. I took the day off from work on Tuesday August 4th to be home for the scheduled appointments. I scheduled all of these appointments well in advance so I could complete the task at hand all on the same day. 3. I had paid to have our dog be at day care on August 4th so she was not a distraction when the estimates were taking place. 4. I was not taking another day off from work and paying for "doggy day-care" again so Mr. Gates could come on Thursday (or any other day for that matter). 5. Regardless, Thursday August 6th was not going to work because I was leaving to go out of town at 5:30am on this day. Mr. Gates simply did not care. We had to reschedule and there was no alternative. He never once apologized for calling last minute to cancel the appointment. Mr. Gates had no back-up plan if Thursday August 6th didn't work for us. When Nick told him are reasons for our unwillingness to reschedule the appointment, Mr. Gates became aggressive. He told Nick (don't quote me exactly) "If you have a problem with me and this situation, why don't you say it to my face man to man." At this point Nick told him, "I do not want you or any representative from Bekin coming over to my house." After the conversation with Mr. Gates, Nick called Bekin customer service to explain what had happened and to make sure that Bekin was aware that we no longer wanted to do business with them. The women said that her supervisor, Phil Cho was on the other line and she would have him call us back as soon as possible. We never received a phone call. Bottom line; this could have been easily avoided!! If Mr. Gates checked his calendar in advance, he potentially could have fixed his poor scheduling for this particular day. Calling a customer at 5:30pm the night before to cancel an appointment for the following day at 9am is beyond inconsiderate. Especially when Mr. Gates himself confirmed this appointment over two weeks prior. For him to call and cancel last minute providing no other alternative if rescheduling is not an option AND threaten the customer when this was 100% his fault is something I have never experienced before. Moving is a very stressful time for anyone and in many cases, a time sensitive matter. It is my understanding, that these larger moving companies provide more then just the service of "transporting your belongings." A large part of the service is to ease the stress of the customer by providing advice, assistance and guidance throughout the whole moving process; from the in-home estimate to the delivery of your belongings at your new location. Steve Gates and Bekin did the total opposite. I would avoid using this company for any of your moving needs. My advice is to call other moving companies who understand the importance of customer service and are able to provide ALL the services that go into a long distance move! In all honesty, no moving company will be able to eliminate all the stress that people feel when moving. But the last thing anyone needs is added stress caused from the people who are supposed to help. If you want more stress during an already stressful time, call Bekin because that is the only service they provide!!!!

Response from Bekins Moving Solutions
[Member name removed], I am very sorry to hear about your poor experience. This behavior is certainly not acceptable and this is not how we train our salespeople to act. On behalf of Bekins A-1, I would like to apologize for your experience. Your comments have been shared with those mentioned and the general manger so we may avoid this in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

I was very unhappy with their service. They stole items from me. They took advantage of a senior citizen.

Worst moving experience ever! The estimate was way below what we actually paid, and the guy who did the estimate had the audacity to yell at my husband on the phone and hang up on him. My husband never raised his voice (of which I was very proud because I would have lost it with the guy). The company came out and took a thorough inventory of all items that were to be moved and gave us a reasonable estimate. His estimate was based on using an 18 wheeler; however, I soon found out that the neighborhood we were moving to restricts trucks to 35'. I emailed the guy who did the estimate regarding this requirement but did not receive a response. The following Monday I left him a voice message, but did not get a return call. Finally, I called the office and spoke with Laura (very nice) and she told me that she would take care of it and that she would call if there was a problem. When the moving crew (also very nice and professional, Kenny and crew) showed up they knew right away that our stuff would not fit in one 35' truck. They had not been told that a 2nd truck would be needed. This poor planning impacted us in two significant ways: 1.) it took two days to move our stuff rather than one, and 2.) it took more hours (at $187/hr) which increased our actual cost 33% above the estimate. Had the guy who did the estimate communicated with the crew that two trucks were going to be needed, they could have brought two trucks on the first day and saved us a lot of money. The other option would have been to pack an 18 wheeler and shuttle the items into the neighborhood in a 35' truck (may have cost more, but still significantly less than what we ended up paying.) To make matters worse, when we were presented the invoice, which of course was much higher than expected, my husband called the company and asked why the bill was so much more. The guy who did the estimate was out of control yelling at my husband. We did pay the invoice, but will tell everyone NOT TO USE BEEKINS A-1 in SARASOTA. I hope the resultant loss of business far exceeds the extra that we had to pay.

Horrible! We hired these guys because they had their own employees do the packing. They were supposed to show up at 8:00AM, but didn't arrive until quarter to eleven (no, we did not get a full days work for our $1,600+, they left promptly at 5PM). We didn't realize how bad their work was until we began to unpack. All our wooden furniture was damaged, irreplaceable antiques were broken and ruined, several items were "lost" including our freezer handle (we can't use it without). In fact, the truck driver took down the model number and part number saying he would replace it. To date, we have heard nothing except that we need to file a claim and wait for their determination. We complained and were immediately turned over to the Wheaton/Bekins corporate people who said all we could do was to file a claim within 9 months and wait. Our local "conscierge" told us that she was told not to deal with us anymore. So, we paid $1,600+ for professional packing, but got a job I would expect from my grandchildren. Then another $7,000+- to have it shipped (arrived late and cost us another night in an hotel) with several items missing (me thinks items just don't go missing by themselves...). Hire these guys and you will regret it as we now do. They know all the tricks to screw you, and they use them! My opinion is that these guys are in it just for the money and will do whatever it takes to get the most out of you and then walk away like they have no responsibility. They know you probably won't spend the money on an attorney to sue them over a relatively small amount of money. Caveat emptor! (Buyer BEWARE!)

They handled our move and stored our furniture for 3 months while we were waiting for a new house to be completed. When delivered to our new home, almost every piece of furniture was damaged. In a 5 piece leather sectional, every piece had slices, tears and rubs, not to mention that it was COVERED in sawdust. There were chunks of wood out of the furniture and every box was crushed. Even plastic storage totes were crushed. We had brand new nursery furniture that had been delivered only days before Bekins picked it up and was never used (baby was born after). When arriving at my new home, the dresser, crib, and bookcase were damaged (the dresser significantly). The rod on mattress support was bent at a 90 degree angle. We had purchased the Valuation Protection. This is where the nightmare continues. They had the furniture "repaired" but not to the previous state which is what they are bound to according to the terms and conditions. It so bad that on the piano repairs, if you touch the piano, the color comes off on your hand. I have documented everything in writing. Ken Speroni, the GM has been incredibly rude and unhelpful. He was not abiding by the terms and conditions during the process and when I pointed that out he advised that he didn't care what I said (when quoting the terms and conditions verbatim) and if I didn't like what he said and didn't want to do it his way I should "do what I need to do". He apparently just bullies people when they are pushing back and standing up for what is right. To date, the company has not replied to my subpar repairs and instead, sent a letter dated a week AFTER I provided the complaint in writing, saying my claim was closed. I have responded advising it was not closed because they have not completed the repairs or provided replacement value. I also have open complaints with the BBB and Dept of Consumer Affairs.

The estimator did not show up at the appointment time to give me a price and date to move my possessions. I waited almost 2 hours and contacted dispatch several times. He was not helpful but did show my appointment in the computer and the location address was also correct. He finally gave me the estimators phone number and I left several very nice messages and he never called back. I gave a review online to Bekins for their attention. They did get back to me eventually and was very nice however I had lost confidence in the company by then. I declined to re-schedule and secured another mover. I was very disappointed especially because Bekins is such a big name in the moving world. I am moving again in 11 months and I will not bother to call them.

Bekins headquarters did contact me to reschedule the appointment but by then I had lost confidence in the company and secured another mover. For such a big company it was disappointing.

It is now 3:00pm and I have not heard anything from this mover. I was supposed to get him to come out for a estimate to move my things to Tennessee. Dispatch gave you his cell number and it went directly to voicemail. I left a very nice message and he never called me. Dispatch told me there was nothing they could do to help.
Description of Work: I was supposed to meet Kenney today at my storage unit at 9:00am for an estimate and at 10:30am he had still not showed up.

Delivery people headed up by "Buddy" was very professional, careful and pleasant. Don't blame them, but I do blame the company, and would never use them again.
Description of Work: I was quoted a "not to exceed price" of $4974 based on an estimate of weight (approx. 10,000 pounds). After truck was about 90% loaded I was a protest by the driver as weight would be higher, and that company would have to change contract to not to exceed 12,500 lbs. Finally, weight did amt to12,240 lbs. In other words a 20% increase in price, after truck loaded. A scam or "mistake"? another load on same truck and estimator was est. at 8,000 but was actually 13,000 I was told. Again, a scam or mistake?
