We have used Ward's for years, from the time they were first starting their company. I needed to move a unit to pour a patio. Another company wanted several hundred dollars to disconnect the unit, sell us new freon and reconnect the unit. I contacted Wards and Scott, the owner, said that was not correct. They could store my freon in a recovery system and reinstall. I was charged $100 for the complete job. Over the years, Scott has come out to replace relays, etc. when others would have been selling us much more. He has come out in freezing weather and extreme heat on a moment's notice; in spite of living on the other side of the bay from us. In this instance, we noticed we had lost our cooling during a very bad heat wave. Wards came out promptly and found a small leak. Our system was put back into service and we were given a quote for a repair of about $500, if we so chose. Scott explained that the system could potentially last another year before another repair, if needed. Note that at no point did he try to upsell me to a new system. My wife and I discussed the state of our 15 year old system. I then did some research and contacted Scott about the reasonableness of getting a new system and the cost. He explained our options, pointing out a federal tax rebate available through the end of the year. He then quoted the price on systems at our request that would be affordable upgrades. I then did further research, requested quotes and then chose a system that was a further upgrade even beyond those initially quoted by Scott. He did some research and found a distributor that had that system on sale; so passed that savings on to us also. The installers showed up early on a Wednesday to replace the system. They worked very quickly and efficiently. They were able to remove the entire system, install the new copper line and have the new system up and running in one day. They noted the insufficient intake size mentioned above; so returned to replace that, inspect the remaining duct work and fix a minor glitch with the thermostat in which it would not shut off. Once completed, they cleaned up everything so thoroughly that I could not tell anyone had been there. No small pieces of wire, pipe, etc could be found in the yard. My wife worked from home during the installation. She was extremely impressed with how courteous and friendly everyone was during the installation. This was not a surprise; as we have always found Scott and his employees to be honest and courteous people.
Description of Work: Ward's AC replaced our old, leaking heat pump system with a new one. They removed/replaced our old air handler from the attic, replaced the copper tubing with a new larger size per code and removed/replaced the outside unit and pad and installed a new thermostat. They inspected the duct work and resealed as needed. After starting the unit, they noted the return was not large enough; so removed the return and duct, cut the hole to size and installed a new return, all at no extra charge.
