+ -1 moreI was torn between two different color schemes and Alex helped me decide which colors to use and which to put where. They were professional and responsive and kept in touch with me regarding when they were going to be there and what they would be doing. They were not the cheapest but they had great experience and recommendations. I am very happy I chose Tropical Painting and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I live in Historic Kenwood and my old home needed a lot of prep work. Alex and team did extensive bleaching, washing, scrapping and caulking and then applied two coats of paint to the exterior.

+ -1 moreAlthough not the cheapest quote, I went with Tropical Painting for to their experience and good reviews. I am pleased with their work and would contract with them again. Alex and his two man crew pressure washed, then scraped the wood siding of any loose material on my nearly 90 year two story and garage. Then applied quality caulk, primer and sealer. Paint used was all quality Benjamin - Moore. This included base plus 3 additional trim colors. They also did a small amount of wood rot repair. Alex was able to work with me on last minute changes. Everyone conducted themselves in a friendly and professional manner. Post work clean up was great.
Description of Work: Prepped, primed and Painted entire 2000 SF two story historic house and detached two car garage in 4 colors.

+ 0 moreIf you need your house painted, do whatever you can to get Alex and his crew on the project! We had to wait many weeks to get on his schedule, but it was well worth it. They start with a thorough power-wash of the house. That's followed by a thorough scraping of loose paint. Filler is applied to smooth out the rough spots, then the real fun begins! The color starts to appear! Alex recommends a very high quality paint, and we we're thrilled with our choice of Sherwin-Williams. Alex helped us with color choices, and made recommendations as we went along. Everything we asked for, he cheerfully did. He is an expert at painting houses and we recommend you listen to his suggestions. By the time his crew was done, we not only had a visually stunning paint job, we had a well-protected house that will last for years to come. I can't say enough nice things about Tropical Painting & Decorating. The price was fair, and the work was exceptional. They showed up on time and the crew was friendly and trust-worthy. They are easy-going and a pleasure to work with. They work hard and get the job done promptly. Thank you Alex!

+ -1 moreNot well. Very frustrating trying to deal with Alex. I have a large job that he could have charged me a small fortune for. I won't do business with him.
Description of Work: I give up! I pulled Tropical Painting's ad out of the Angie's List magazine. After no response to an email sent to the address posted on the website for over a week, I called. Three days later Alex called back and we were able to schedule an appointment for an estimate on a Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (his choice). No show. I left a voicemail that went unreturned. I called him the following Wednesday. He had no clue who I was or that he had missed our appointment!!! We rescheduled for the following Tuesday. At his request, I texted him the address. He texted me Sunday to confirm Tuesday. I confirmed via text the same day. He no-showed AGAIN. I texted him that I had waited at the house as scheduled and then had to leave for an appointment 15 minutes after our scheduled time. NO RESPONSE! Unbelievable! Alex, a note on professionalism...both times we spoke you mentioned how busy you were and that you were scheduling 5-6 weeks out. In hindsight, I take that as an "I'm not interested in bidding for your job." Next time, tell the customer that you are too busy to schedule new work or refer us to someone in the business whom you trust. There is no excuse for your treatment of potential clients.

+ -1 moreHe never called back! I called again and left a message but again he never tried to call back. I figure with his attitude it is best that I find another painter. We would never try this company again! Poor attitude! unprofessional!
Description of Work: I called for an estimate. He said he was on a ladder and would call me back in 5 minutes. After about 10 minutes my phone received a voicemail without ringing. (I was holding the phone waiting to go to work) The message was from Tropical and the guy was mad! He said he got off the ladder and walked across the stree to call but now I wont answer, then hung up! I immediately called back after hearing the message. No Answer (not even 30 seconds after hearing the message!) I called again and left a message explaining that the call went straight to voicemail and to please call back.

I would highly recommend them for any painting needs. Joel and Mike the two staff members were also very conscience, as well Alex the owner who was as helpful and participated as much as the other. We are going to have them back to do some interior painting for us as well.

+ -1 moreAlex is a perfectionist and has an excellent color sense and helped me choose paint. This project took a long time because there was a lot to do. He and his helpers were here daily and worked mostly a full day.
Description of Work: Extensive paint job. Much of the painting involved new wood trim which was being added to windows and baseboards. This is slow work. Multiple coats and sanding. Several areas were wall papered. Some of the paint areas were color blocked. It was a complicated job and it still looks fresh and new.

Description of Work: We have used Alex and his company for well over 10 years on many different projects inside and out. The most recent was for exterior painting, after some remodeling, and painting the garage. In the past Tropical has painted most of the interior and the entire exterior of our home. Alex is very quick to respond to our requests for estimates and his prices have always been more than competitive. Our home was built in 1925, is 4000 square feet, and is on the water. These attributes require special attention at times. Alex and Tropical have been able to handle carpentry needs that have saved us a lot of time, expense, and headaches. That has put this company at the top of our list for well over ten years!

+ -1 morethe job involved the exterior painting of a large house with an extensive wall surrounded by plants. Alex arrived promptly; he carefully reviewed the grounds, made suggestions regarding approaches and provided a very detailed estimate within 48 hours. It took us some time to decide on the colors and Alex patiently provided us with samples to mull over while he scheduled us in. Alex personally participated in painting and almost constantly supervised the work. He would leave only for short periods when he had office work or other administrative tasks to get done. The job took about two weeks and I never felt anything was ever rushed to finish. When finished we reviewed every detail. If we found anyhing not quite right (very few) Alex corrected. You can't do better.
Description of Work: Alex is the owner of Tropical Painting and he personally makes sure it is done beautifully and fully to your satisfaction. I can't say enough about his professionalism, proficiency and practicality. We had a relatively large project including an extensive wall with plants, etc. Alex and his staff were terrific, very courteous, clean and careful at all times. I enthusiastically endorse Tropical Painting.

+ -1 moreHe is an excellent salesman and has a great personality when you first meet him. But as he came to do the work his personality changed, he would become nasty and threatening. He demanded his money and left before the job was finished. On some of the trim and the building itself you can see the paint underneath because they only did one coat. There are places where the paint is chipping off and the whole thing is just an eye sore. He charged over $700 for receipts of items that were for other customers, items that we didn't even need, and also for colors of paint that weren't for our house. The total cost of the work greatly differed from what they originally quoted; they quoted $11,300 and the end it cost $19,600 but we retained paying him $1,000 so he could do the job right.
