Description of Work: We gave a $2500 deposit for bathroom tile work to be done, on what was originally estimated to be a $3600 job, so the majority was paid up front, and we signed the estimate. Once I got home, I went over the estimate and within four hours sent an email to Randy Geffon about the pricing issues and amounts of tile being ordered, because it appeared that an excessive amount of tile was to be ordered, and the fact that he hadn't included the granite sill for the shower in the pricing. In one month, he never responded to the email. One month later, when his guys were supposed to show up, and I was calling to find out when they were coming (they were days later than promised), he still didn't return calls. Yet the installers were able to reach him with no problem. I kept texting him that he owed me a call. Didn't happen. At the same time, when the installers showed up ONE MONTH after the original estimate was provided and a down payment was made, they still didn't have the shower floor rock from Randy. Randy's estimate included the rock and labor to install, yet he apparently didn't ensure that he had it in-house for the job. So I went to Floor and Decor to see what they had, and found they had stuff in stock, so I arranged for the installers to pass by and pick it up, and I reimbursed them for the rock and grout and sealer (they picked the last two items out). Then they didn't have the correct grout color for the walls, so I had to go back and pick that up, and got the same brand grout and sealer for that. My contractor did the slope kit installation (in Florida there are two processes required, a slope kit and a mud bed for the tile. Randy's bid included both and labor, for a total of $475. So I assume that I should have gotten a credit for 1/2 of that amount from Randy, since one-half of the slope kit and mud bed was done by my contractor. I also incurred an additional $387 for the aforementioned materials, which matched the materials that the installer picked up. Randy said that his bid didn't include grout sealer, yet his installers pick it up with the rock, without my requesting it. I just got the same stuff in the correct color for the walls. Randy's estimate was supposed to include all materials and labor. Randy didn't contact me ONCE while I was trying to get the job done, but as soon as the sill was finally in (long after the job was supposed to be done, apparently one sill came in damaged, but that sill also came in after the job was supposed to be finished, when I gave the deposit one month in advance), Randy was emailing me and calling for immediate payment of $1390 more. I asked him about my credits due, because I was due at least $600 in credits for what I advanced and what my contractor did. We went back and forth, and Randy graciously gave me $390 in credit, and a free area rug if I wanted one....what a joke! I just said I need to get on with my life, here is $1000, I'm out of here. I also told him his guys would have made some very bad judgment calls if I hadn't hovered over them as they installed, and he said "you should have called me, I would take care of any issues with installation." This, when he never deigned to return any of my calls. The installers even grouted the valve in so that the plumber couldn't do his work, and didn't even bother looking at the unit to be installed in the shower wall to make sure that the rocks didn't impede the installation of the face plate and the turning of the handle. My contractor had to fix that. I would never recommend these guys. We went with them because they fit our time scheduling, but even that turned out to not be the case. Randy will say that the sill cost much more than he estimated and that his install price was lower than others, but everybody does business based on the original agreement, I didn't coerce him to give me anything he wasn't ready to live with. And his final bill included adjustments for vertical installation, etc., but the job didn't change its character of what was to be done in the shower and tub. He will also say that the contractor wasn't ready when we agreed the job was to be done, but the contractor says that Randy agreed he would be available one week later, which didn't happen anyways, and when Randy's installers finally arrived they didn't have all of the materials! What would have happened if the contractor had been on time? Who knows, since Randy wasn't returning calls!
