Ordered materials in August. Didn't receive tile and cabinets until December which was crucial and lining up contractors. Excuses after Excuses. Several items were ordered incorrectly. I had to absorb the costs of these errors Just received the last of the items December 23rd. Appears to have major financial issues. Steer clear! This has truly been a nightmare project.
Description of Work: We believe they used our payment to float other projects (sinks, cabinets, tile, toilets, etc). Husband and wife team who have since split let us on a 5 1/2 month renovation for 2 small bathrooms. We seek other housing for 3 months and then made make shift bathroom so that we could be in our own home and resume some level of normalcy for ourselves and our child. Due to this experience I may never choose to renovate again!

Description of Work: We gave a $2500 deposit for bathroom tile work to be done, on what was originally estimated to be a $3600 job, so the majority was paid up front, and we signed the estimate. Once I got home, I went over the estimate and within four hours sent an email to Randy Geffon about the pricing issues and amounts of tile being ordered, because it appeared that an excessive amount of tile was to be ordered, and the fact that he hadn't included the granite sill for the shower in the pricing. In one month, he never responded to the email. One month later, when his guys were supposed to show up, and I was calling to find out when they were coming (they were days later than promised), he still didn't return calls. Yet the installers were able to reach him with no problem. I kept texting him that he owed me a call. Didn't happen. At the same time, when the installers showed up ONE MONTH after the original estimate was provided and a down payment was made, they still didn't have the shower floor rock from Randy. Randy's estimate included the rock and labor to install, yet he apparently didn't ensure that he had it in-house for the job. So I went to Floor and Decor to see what they had, and found they had stuff in stock, so I arranged for the installers to pass by and pick it up, and I reimbursed them for the rock and grout and sealer (they picked the last two items out). Then they didn't have the correct grout color for the walls, so I had to go back and pick that up, and got the same brand grout and sealer for that. My contractor did the slope kit installation (in Florida there are two processes required, a slope kit and a mud bed for the tile. Randy's bid included both and labor, for a total of $475. So I assume that I should have gotten a credit for 1/2 of that amount from Randy, since one-half of the slope kit and mud bed was done by my contractor. I also incurred an additional $387 for the aforementioned materials, which matched the materials that the installer picked up. Randy said that his bid didn't include grout sealer, yet his installers pick it up with the rock, without my requesting it. I just got the same stuff in the correct color for the walls. Randy's estimate was supposed to include all materials and labor. Randy didn't contact me ONCE while I was trying to get the job done, but as soon as the sill was finally in (long after the job was supposed to be done, apparently one sill came in damaged, but that sill also came in after the job was supposed to be finished, when I gave the deposit one month in advance), Randy was emailing me and calling for immediate payment of $1390 more. I asked him about my credits due, because I was due at least $600 in credits for what I advanced and what my contractor did. We went back and forth, and Randy graciously gave me $390 in credit, and a free area rug if I wanted one....what a joke! I just said I need to get on with my life, here is $1000, I'm out of here. I also told him his guys would have made some very bad judgment calls if I hadn't hovered over them as they installed, and he said "you should have called me, I would take care of any issues with installation." This, when he never deigned to return any of my calls. The installers even grouted the valve in so that the plumber couldn't do his work, and didn't even bother looking at the unit to be installed in the shower wall to make sure that the rocks didn't impede the installation of the face plate and the turning of the handle. My contractor had to fix that. I would never recommend these guys. We went with them because they fit our time scheduling, but even that turned out to not be the case. Randy will say that the sill cost much more than he estimated and that his install price was lower than others, but everybody does business based on the original agreement, I didn't coerce him to give me anything he wasn't ready to live with. And his final bill included adjustments for vertical installation, etc., but the job didn't change its character of what was to be done in the shower and tub. He will also say that the contractor wasn't ready when we agreed the job was to be done, but the contractor says that Randy agreed he would be available one week later, which didn't happen anyways, and when Randy's installers finally arrived they didn't have all of the materials! What would have happened if the contractor had been on time? Who knows, since Randy wasn't returning calls!

Response from RG floor & home
Dear Angie’s List I am writing you this letter in regard to a recent review on my company that I would like to dispute. My company takes a great amount of pride in everything we do, we want to make sure that our customers are educated on the products they are looking at and we take pride in guiding and educating all of our clients making sure they select the proper products for their end use. During this we make sure that we select product that not only has great value, it has the highest quality, and overall atheistic value as well. In this review that Mr. & Mrs. [member name remove] wrote to you they have left out or omitted large amounts of information in addition to it being false and distorted information. I was born and raised in the flooring business here in Pinellas County; I am the second generation in this industry and have actively worked in this field for over 38 years. My company primarily caters to the trade, with over 85% of our business being repeat business. Mr. & Mrs. [member name remove] very briefly came into our store inquiring about tile. Upon our introduction I greeted them and they informed me of the size and color of the tiles they were searching for. They wanted a dark charcoal or black. As I guided them through the store I began to explain some of the differences about tile and the manufacturing process including the origin of where it is produced for example; Chinese vs Italian made, Stone vs manufactured along with rectified tile vs non-rectified tile and the proper setting methods. During the duration Mr. & Mrs. [member name remove] were in my showroom they were in a big rush, and their main concern was pricing. They were in and out very quickly however Mrs. [member name remove] provided me with her contact information and email. As soon as they left the store I wrote them a thank you letter, thanking them for visiting our store and letting her know that I would be happy to assist them any way possible and that I looked forward in earning their business and working with them in the future. In addition as part of my customer service while trying to earn their business I offered to order them any additional samples of some value priced products letting her know that I would contact her on their arrival. 3-4 days later I followed up with Mrs. [member name remove] via email inquiring if there was anything else I can do in helping her source the tile she was looking for. During this I also offered to meet the [member name remove] at their home to measure their new addition which is about 20 miles away from our showroom. I explained to her that this is a standard business practice and would allow me to perform an accurate take off of their space in discussion. A few days after this, the additional samples I ordered for them arrived and I reached out to Mrs. [member name remove] again letting her know of their arrival in our showroom. Mrs. [member name remove] than made an appointment with me to stop by the showroom to look at the tiles I special ordered in for her. Mrs. [member name remove]after confirming never showed and I stayed late waiting for her. Roughly 10 days later the [member name remove] stopped by my showroom again, and just as the first visit they were very rushed. Mr. [member name remove] gave a quick look and then waited outside; Mrs. [member name remove] indicated they had to be somewhere. As a professional that always tries to help guide and educate my client’s this was very frustrating but I over looked it. It is very important when selecting products you know the differences in what you are comparing, they were only concerned about price which makes the understanding of the quality of the product you are looking for even more important. In addition this is a purchase and investment that is usually something that is not replaced very often. At this point I had thought about passing on this job, sometimes every few years a client comes in where it’s better that you pass on the job, it’s a feeling you get after 38 years in the business. I went against my better judgment and instead viewed it as a challenge. I never like to pass on a client even if sometimes is against my best judgment. During one of my follow-ups by phone; Mrs. [member name remove] indicated they found an Italian made tile priced much lower than ours. I said please give me the name, style and any SKU numbers on the tile. I also asked Mrs. [member name remove] where she had found this product. She replied Floor Décor. From experience I know the vast majority of their tiles and other products are from China. While on the phone I heard Mrs. [member name remove] ask Mr. [member name remove] exactly what I had just asked her in regard to the product information, he said I saw it printed on the boxes. I immediately called the exact Floor Décor store they just visited and asked for the manager. After being placed on hold for over 8 minutes the manager came to the phone and I gave him the exact information the [member name remove] had just given me. He placed me on hold again and came back and said that the product was manufactured in China. Another week or two went by and Mrs. [member name remove] called me and asked me to price the job out. I told her I could give her a price, however without a physical on site measurement this was just an estimate. In my estimate to her this stated again that it was subject to physical measurement. Mrs. [member name remove] said if I could do the job for that price she’ll take it. I again told her that this is an estimate and is NOT the final price; it’s subject to a physical measurement. I firmly said that it would have to be measured with proper take offs to determine the exact quantities needed and final invoice price for purchase. About 4-5 days later Mr. & Mrs. [member name remove] arrived at the store to place the order. Our staff went over the provided architectural drawings of the space as it was still under construction. At this time we invoiced the materials. Again the [member name remove] were rushing because they were leaving for vacation to Spain the next day and had not packed. They were rushing the entire time and Mr. [member name remove], he was rude and unprofessional and giving his wife a very hard time. They were in the showroom maybe 30 minutes maximum. Although rushed we invoiced the materials and Mrs. [member name remove] signed the order contract (signed, we have it as well) for $3,642.00. Mrs. [member name remove] provided a $2,500.00 deposit towards the materials order. Most of our competitors including all the home centers no longer accept deposits rather it is paid in full prior to anything being ordered. This practice is now common among 85% of brick and mortar stores. On our signed contract there is no grout color selected, or any other setting materials included. Again the constant rushing and rushing did not allow any time for this. We would have provided this regardless, but still had no grout color because Mrs. [member name remove] wanted to select it on site. Mrs. [member name remove] also said you have to arrive to do the installation on May 12. We agreed, we usually do not schedule anything unless all the materials are here. As soon as Mrs. [member name remove] arrived at home she started to dispute some of the charges, certainly because they rushed and treated my staff in such a rude fashion they did not give her the quality time that is needed for a job like this. Mrs. [member name remove] sent an email questioning the quantity of tile ordered for her bathroom. She was not taking into account the industry standard overage required for waste during installation or the fact that the material must be ordered in a full carton, not per tile. As soon as we received her email where she had counted approximately how many exact tiles she felt she needed, disregarding waste and box quantity, we answered it immediately; we have all of that documentation as well. The [member name remove] left for Spain the following day and we had no reply. Two days before the scheduled installation date their contractor called me and said there is no way you can come on the 12th of May to install the materials that they were not ready yet and that it would have to be at least a week later minimum. I explained to their contractor that Mrs. [member name remove] was adamant about this date; he further explained they had been pushing him on the entire job with unrealistic time frames. During this discussion with their contractor I explained that we are booked for a solid 4 weeks. This last minute cancellation disrupted our clients schedule and I informed their contractor of not being able to schedule the job for 4 more weeks, as a professional he completely understood this. The [member name remove] were out of the county and with the contractor left to make the decisions on their home directly there was nothing else that could be done. When the [member name remove] arrived back into the country they ordered a sill/threshold from us for the shower where we then created a change order. They wanted this sill approximately 4 feet in length and to be in one piece and in absolute black with a double bullnose. The piece was back ordered. We decided to arrive at the job to install the products to get the job started because the sill is one of the last pieces installed. Once our crew arrived at the job, Mrs. [member name remove] decided on her own to go buy thin set and selected a grout color with our crew; she paid Floor Décor directly for this. In addition she also purchased a grout sealant from them as well. That is something similar to paint sealant when you purchase a new car, and we respectively disagree with these costly add on purchases. A few weeks later the sill arrived and it was broken. I was here upon its arrival and took pictures of the broken sill still on the truck and sent it to Mrs. [member name remove] email. The second sill was backordered again for about 15 business days. There is only 1 factory we could find with the color and length the [member name remove] wanted. There are 100’s of the factories that have 24” and 36” sills available but none in 72”. After the job as was 100% complete and only after it was 100% complete did I email a copy of their COD, with the sill added, and I credited even though I should not have the grout, the rock, and the thin set. I had no reply from Mrs. [member name remove] as they went out of town again, as I called her and she was a girl’s trip. During this conversation I asked her to please pay the bill now. She said after my vacation is over I’ll look at it. Once she got home I had a hard time getting a response from Mrs. [member name remove] to pay her bill. After numerous attempts I was finally able to connect with Mrs. [member name remove] and she then made me an offer to pay a discounted balance. In closing I should have walked away from this job, looking back at it I can now clearly see all of the red flags from dealing with the [member name remove] initially. I should have just listened to my gut feeling and not tried to earn her business. Mrs. [member name remove] omitted multiple facts and has falsely accused me and my staff of many things. Furthermore she omitted the bulk of the facts in her review. Randy
