WARNING! These people are scam artists. Do not trust them. I've been misquoted, overcharged, lied to, insulted, hung up on, and now ignored, all because I did not agree to allow them to double charge me for what was supposed to be a ONE TIME "service call fee". Although the amount ($53.50) may seem insignificant to some, it's the principle of the matter, and if they do this several times a day, they could be stealing thousands per month from their customers. For this reason, I think it's very important to address this publicly so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. Since they were so adamant about not correcting their mistake (even though I have our agreement in writing), I'm concerned that this may be common practice for the company. This makes me curious to know how many people were lied to from Carol and/or Mark (employees of the company) and unknowingly paid the same duplicate fees they tried to charge me. Like I said above, if they do this to several people per day, they could be scamming thousands of dollars from unsuspecting customers. To make matters worse, when I brought it to their attention, they claimed that the charge was showing up a second time only for the purposes of "balancing their books for accounting", and insulted me by telling me that I "don't know how to do simple math", and then hung up on me. (For the record, I have two college degrees, including a degree in finance, so I'm quite aware that $53.50 is a greater number than $0.) Since being hung up on (multiple times), I've tried to call them with hopes that they would at least allow me to point out where they've made an error, but they no longer answer the phone when I call, nor do they respond to my emails. To be clear what they've done, so that it doesn't happen to you: They will tell you that they charge a fee of $107 for them to come to your home and determine the problem with the TV. The $107 is comprised of $53.50 for the diagnostic fee, and $53.50 for a "ONE TIME trip fee". After they determine the problem, the full $107 is to be taken off of the cost of the repair (should you choose to do the repair with them). This seemed fair to me, so I paid the $107 and they came out. The tech didn't do much, only looked from afar (without touching the TV), and told me I needed to replace the main circuit board (based on what I told him verbally). He left after only 5 minutes and said they would email me the quote. Later, I received the estimate for repair. This is where the problem started... The estimate included $231.23 for parts, $189 for labor, $33.17 for tax, and $53.50 for ANOTHER "ONE TIME" service call fee. The $107 that I had previously paid was then deducted, as they promised, but the total estimate was obviously $53.50 too high because they charged me for the "ONE TIME trip fee" a second time. My first assumption was that this was an honest mistake, but when I called to let them know about it, they told me that I "couldn't do simple math", and that my only option was to pay the full amount of the estimate (including the ONE TIME service call fee for the SECOND time), or they would keep my $107 and I can find another repair company. At this point, I feel trapped because if I do the right thing, and not allow them to overcharge me by $53.50, I lose the $107 that I already paid them. And this actually benefits them because they did nothing for the money (they didn't even touch the tv or take it apart). On the other hand, if I hire them to repair the TV, they've not only benefitted by retaining my business, but also from double charging me for the "one time" fee. It's a no-win situation for me as the customer, so my goal is to let as many people know about their scam as possible so that it hopefully happens to nobody else.
Description of Work: They charged me $107 just to come out and tell me my TV was broken.

Poorly. The first time out, ATS said the unit only needed to be vacuumed. They vacuumed the condenser and left. When called back (nothing was fixed), they said they needed to work on it in the shop. After several weeks, I called and they set up a time to bring back what they said was a fixed machine. They brought it back and it still did not work. In fact, now it dropped no ice whatsoever. They took it back to the shop again. I got the insurance company involved. Finally, everyone concurred that the machine did not work. was it possible that the machine worked while in the shop? Possibly, they set it up there to have cold air blowing on it . In my house, it was in normal conditions. The machine was gone for weeks. The overall experience with them lasted about four months.
Description of Work: ATS was sent by the insurance company who insured my ice machine

I would give this Zero or negative stars if i could. I found myself dealing with ATS Inc. via a dispatch from my Home Warranty Company, when the icemaker on my refrigerator stopped making ice. The terms of my home warranty were that I would pay any contractor a co-pay ($100) for their initial visit and all subsequent repairs and visits would be covered. ATS dispatched a young man to examine my refrigerator to determine the part number in need of replacement. The young man was quite diligent and got what he needed quickly and departed, but he forgot to collect the co-pay on his way out the door. Then some things happened very quickly. An ATS representative called me to inform me that the young man's error needed to be rectified immediately, and offered to take payment by credit card over phone. I declined and requested an email invoice. Which I received. The home warranty company called to tell me that my claim was being denied because i didn't have the "supreme" package - apparently I?m covered for my refrigerator, but not the icemaker inside my refrigerator. This smelled like some bull***t excuse to find any reason not to cover anything in the warranty and that this whole home warranty is just a scam, but the haste and determination with which ATS tried to correct their mistake in not collecting the co-pay left me feeling a little suspicious. I called ATS and spoke with Mark Hanson to ask what was going on. Mark maintained that he did not know that the claim was being / had been rejected. He insisted that he would or could not do anything for me until I had paid the co-pay. He declined to contact the home warranty company for any sort of clarification, and he hinted that any delay of payment on my part would be met with legal remedies. Mark praised the home warranty company and assured me that he had worked with them for years and had never had never encountered a situation like this before (I've had dealings with them for less than a year, and it is the third time (out of 3) they have tried to deny coverage based on print so small I would need an electron microscope to find it. I must be the unluckiest home warranty customer ever.) When I indicated a willingness to pay as part of an arrangement excluding the home warranty company (I still needed my icemaker fixed) and I asked for a quote (bearing in mind he had all the details / part numbers etc), Mark did not seem interested in helping me (a prospective customer) but only in his recovering his co-pay immediately. I was really left with the impression that ATS is not a company I would ever want to deal with. At best (and this is me being charitable) they were unhelpful, rude and threatening. (cross posted on yelp and angie's list)

He wasn't very personable and didn't really want the work. I had to bring it back 3 times before it worked. I wouldn't really recommend him.

In order to get an appointment, I had to prepay (I believe it was $140) for a 2 hour appointment window. When no one showed up I called and was told there was a communication error and eventually heard from the technician who came hours later. I called back to complain later that I had to prepay for no one to show up I was not given much sympathy and a very lame apology. The repair was done adequately but the customer service was poor.
