I didn't spend anything. They came out and tried to scam me. I reported them in to the Better Business Bureau. They were just a real big scam. I went to the home improvement store and told them all about it. The store corrected the problem and lodged a complaint against ARS / Rescue Rooter. The guy from ARS / Rescue Rooter came out, looked at it, and told me it was rusted out and that I would need a new one. After I told him that it was under warranty, he came back 5 minutes later and told me that it was not covered under my warranty. He told me that the home improvement store scammed me on that warranty and those were no good and also added that for a big discount their company would be happy to install a new one for me. The store sent out another person and said there was nothing wrong with that, changed a couple of heating elements and got it all working. The plumbing company was trying to scam people by saying the warranty didn't cover the parts and giving you a discount to put new ones in. They said they would look into it and have somebody call me and nobody ever called me. It might have been just that plumber rather than the company. It is a life time warranty. The water heater is 5 years old. They said that it was rusted out and there was nothing they could except replace it. When I went to the home improvement store and told them about the rust, they said that I had bought the better one, a 12 year one, which had a glass bottom so it was impossible to get rusted.

All check-ups proceed in the same way. The outside unit is opened, cleaned, maybe vaccuumed. Inside unit is opened, checked, etc. Capacitor inside was replaced on recommendation by serviceman. How's one to know whether or not? So I said yes. Scott seems very down-to-earth and trustworthy. It was a good decision. The Heat pump works like a dream now; it doesn't rely on the electric backup as much as it used to.
Description of Work: The service was a maintenance check-up, as part of my pre-paid service plan. A capacitor was observed to be weak, it was replaced. Inside and outside units were checked, overall system was assessed for age and condition.

My air conditioner was not working. They told me that the compressor was gone, due to a power surge. I was 7 years into a 10 year warranty. I called my insurance company and they said that they would pay for a new unit if that was the cause. I ordered another Air Conditioner, and my insurance inspected the old unit and said that it was not the compressor, but was just a common problem with Trane units and they were able to get the compressor working just fine. Fortunately I was able to stop payment on the new unit that I had already ordered. In the end, I got a $6000 new unit for about $2500 because of their error. I have had problems with them in the past as well. Once was for routine maintenance, and he suggested that I needed all new duct work, which I declined!

They are knowledgeable and dependable. They have 24 hour service and on one of the occasions did need to come out very early. The least expensive was $250.00 and the most was $438.00 so I would consider the price ranges being very reasonable for what they did.
Description of Work: We have used them a few times. The first time they did a sewer cleaning and fixed our toilets. They also did the camera inspection. They removed both toilets and replaced them. Another time they repaired our air conditioner and they did a very good job. They did not charge us a lot of money. They added freon and checked the system. They also repaired an exterior water line. They repaired it quickly and were very responsive and they did a good job. They replaced the shut off valve in our house and did that very quickly and the price was very reasonable. Most recently we had tree roots in the sewer lines and they took care of that issue for us very quickly and efficiently.

They have done at least 3 plumbing jobs for us. They have cleaned our drains and also done some work on our AC unit in the last year. I didn't realize that putting in sinks would be so expensive and I was shocked too. So, I called the manager yesterday morning and I told him that I wasn't very happy with the price that was quoted. It seemed like a lot of money and he told me that it was already discounted, but he still took another $100 off along with a $25 discount. So, I guess that the price was good. They were pretty responsive, as they were here the next day itself and they were punctual. The plumber was very nice and he couldn't have been nicer after he got here and started working. I would use their services in the future too.

I got a good deal from them and they have been servicing my air conditioner for the past few years. It seems like they have given me a good price and I didn't shop around this time like I usually do. They did a good job, but they never took care of the rebates like they promised to do. I waited for them, but they never filled up the form for the rebates and they started giving me a lot of excuses when I called them. So, I still haven't received the rebate for around a thousand dollars from one place and a couple of hundred dollars from another place. I am also supposed to get a tax credit for $ 1500. They didn't live up to their promises. I wouldn't recommend them to others. They were responsive. They had to come back, as they had left a couple of things over here. The price that they charged was a bit on the higher end. The original crew that had come out left a piece of the air conditioner. So, I had to make calls asking them to come back and fix it for me. They were quite courteous and prompt. They were good at maintaining our system. The technicians always seemed to explain everything. I also had a lot of technicians who wanted to do a lot of stuff and I didn't think it was needed.

The initial quote was for $79.95 until they discovered that I was a small business then the quote jumped to $109.95; by the time the technician arrived the cost was $119.95 and that was simply for coming out. They tried to charge me an additional fee to clear the drain line until I objected, threatening to call the BBB. The technician called his boss then came back and agreed to clear the drain for $119. As I was obligated to pay for the service call, I agreed to let him perfom the work. I have a business to run and couldn't lose more time chasing AC folks nor could I inconvenience my clients by not having AC.

Hubby Richard went into garage about 8:30 am on a Thurs & noticed the water heater dripping. I found the phone # on the heater & called. After being on hold a few minutes I told the woman our water heater was leaking & needed a tech ASAP. I had a doc apt at 10:30 so she told me someone would be out between 2pm & 6pm. About 9:45 I checked it & noticed it was dripping quite a bit faster than before. Canceled my apt & called ARS back & she told me she would have someone out between 10 & 2. Dan arrived about 11 am & saw the heater leaking quite a bit. He told me we needed a new heater, gave me the estimate, & I told him to go ahead! Everything went perfectly. Only thing was he dropped about three pipes in our black garbage can but didn't mention that to me. I thought it was our neighbors that put that in our can! One more thing, the manual attached to the heater isn't for the heater Dan installed. I asked him about maintenance & he said there wasn't any, the manual, however, said you need to maintain the heater at least a few times a year. All in all, however, my experience with ARS was good.

I called ARS and they wouldn't respond at all. The office people escalated it to corporate and many calls later, no one returns calls. I did finally speak to a director who very nice said they would take care of everything. She referred me to their insurance company. They now tell me that the mold is not covered, you might want to call your insurance company. NOT. This company caused the water into my house and hence the mold. All documented with pictures and letters. They need to make good on their promise to fix my house watch their employees more carefully they might be a good company but they hurt me bad.
Description of Work: This company came out to unclog my the sewer line and used my toilet. Yes, they unclog the problem but the tech put my toilet on improperly and was nasty about it when I said it looked wrong. He said that's all I'm doing. I paid him and he left. This was on 8/1/07. Now months later I noticed that my floors are turning dark and water is coming up thru the grout. I called their office to talk to a supervisor. No returns. I personally didn't know what the problem was but I wanted their supervisor and a tech to come back. No answer from them. I called another company to come out to find the problem and to document everything for insurance reasons. They came out and found the toilet was not seated right and was leaking under the tile. With every flush to the back wall it is next to the kitchen that now I have a lot of mold. My floors and cabinets fell apart. The water is everywhere. I'm fighting to get my house back.

The repair was terrible. ARS is a thief. It took over a week to get the AC to run, I feel like the repair tech took advantage of a 65 year old single women when he quoted the unit. He originally told her it had to be replaced with a 3500 air handler. After I called another service ARS said, "well we could sell you one for 2500 that will work just as well". After agreeing to the less expensive unit it took over a week for the company to figure out what was wrong with the AC. They were just switching out parts until they got it to work...and billing me for the whole thing. Next time I will call a true professional outfit to work on my AC. The General Manager never called me, he never sent me a revised bill to show the 2500 instead of the 3500 and then threatened to lien my house, and offered to remove the new air handler, I asked for my old air handler back, but he would not give it back.
Description of Work: Thursday called for a repair of AC unit. Friday Tech came out, opened the door to the air handler and said, "this needs to be replaced". Following Tuesday replaced the unit. When the install techs left, the AC did not cool. On Thursday a tech came out looked at the unit and left, unit did not cool. Friday a tech looked at the unit and said that the condenser was broken. It was replaced under warranty by ARS, but they billed me for $775 labor. THE AC STILL DID NOT COOL. Following Tuesday a tech came to look at the unit and replaced a cut off switch in the line going out to the outside unit. NOW THE AC WORKED.

The pipes on my air conditioner were clogged, and the guy that came said I needed a new unit without even looking at where the problem was. I was hesitant, and he came back later with a second person to clean it out instead of replacing it. They cleaned it, and it did not need replacing. They did come back and make it right, and that was good service.

Service was prompt and technician was courteous. He quickly deduced that the problem was a defective fan motor (open coil). He quoted $1097 for a new motor (installed). He also gave me quotes for a new oil burner ($4794)and a new 5 ton heat pump system ($6753). The problem was that the assessment of the defective fan motor was totally wrong. We replaced the motor (neighbor used to be in the business) for $140 only to find the problem still existed. We then checked the original motor (wish I did that sooner)and found it was fine. We cleaned the fire detector window (took about 5 minutes)with a paper towel (technician never checked it) and the oil burner system operates just fine. I called ARS back and told them of the situation. The manager promptly refunded my service fee and apologized, stating they really didn't have qualified technicians to service oil burners (too few oil fired burners around, they stated). Wish they would have told me that when I originally called for service.

THEY REFUSED TO SEND A WRITTEN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR BUT VERBALLY TOLD ME IT WAS STILL $1700. THE SALESMAN CALLED ON THE MORNING OF THE 10TH AND I EXPRESSED TO HIM THAT I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, AND THAT ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS CALL TRANE TO CONFIRM IT. HE SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO "CHECK THAT OUT", THEN NEVER SHOWED UP. AT THIS POINT THE OFFICE STOPPED TAKING MY CALLS. I CALLED THE HOME OFFICE TO LODGE A COMPLAINT, FAXED ALL THE INFORMATION TO THEM AND NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN. A REPUTABLE DEALER THEN CAME OUT, VERIFIED THE WARRANTY WITH TRANE (IN FIVE MINUTES) AND GAVE ME A WRITTEN ESTIMATE OF $860 TO FIX. MY STRONG FEELING IS THAT ARS WAS OVER-QUOTING THE REPAIR IN ORDER TO SELL ME A NEW UNIT AND THAT THEY STOPPED COMMUNICATING WITH ME WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THAT I WOULDN'T FALL FOR IT. I TAKE NOTICE OF THE FACT THAT THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A WRITTEN ESTIMATE SO THAT NO PAPER TRAIL WOULD BE LEFT.
Description of Work: ON 5/15/2000 I PURCHASED A NEW TRANE HEAT PUMP FOR $1860. TRANE'S WARRANTY INCLUDES FIVE YEARS FOR PARTS. ON 9/2/04 & 9/3/04 TECH IAN DIAGNOSED A LEAK IN THE ALUMINUM COIL FOR A DIAGNOSIS CHARGE OF $124. HE GAVE ME A VERBAL ESTIMATE OF APPR. $1700 TO FIX. I ASKED HIM ABOUT THE WARRANTY AND HE CLAIMED HE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT WARRANTIES. AT THIS TIME HE ARRANGED AN APPOINTMENT WITH A SALESMAN ON 9/10 TO SELL ME A NEW UNIT SINCE THE REPAIR COST WAS SO CLOSE TO THE COST OF A NEW UNIT. DURING THE INTERIM I CALLED THE OFFICE MANY TIMES TO TRY TO ASCERTAIN MY WARRANTY POSITION. I WAS TOLD EVERY TIME THAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR THE ORIGINAL INVOICE AND COULD NOT DO WARRANTY WORK WITHOUT IT. I QUOTE "TRANE HAS THEIR WARRANTY, BUT WE HAVE OUR OWN".

9/2/04 tech Ian responded to a no cool call. Our standard fee for diagnostics is $79. When tech arrived he found evaporator coil frozen solid encased in appx. 2" of ice. Our standard policy is giving homeowner choice of our tech leaving & returning the following day for $45 or staying & defrosting unit for a charge of $90. Homeowner opted for return trip. On 9/3/04 same tech returned to follow up as requested. Upon arrival this time tech found unit low on freon. Our policy is to make customer aware of situation, make our recommendations & explain our prices. Our fee for leak checking is $75. We do not proceed w/ any unauthorized repairs until homeowner signs or initials repairs needed. While doing leak check we found a small refrigerant leak in condensing coil. We finished our leak check & made member aware of problem & quoted price for repairs. Tech was aware that condenser coil was under warranty because price that was quoted. Homeowner did have something in writing.
