This Beach House has been in my family for a number of years and I had recently begun thinking about renovating it for possible rental. Things got more urgent, though, when the county flagged the outside deck as unsafe (it was!). I actually came here to Angie's List and got some possible Contractors - also talked to as many locals as I could for more possibilities. I got several quotes - from ridiculously low (even with my limited knowledge of construction I know the price would have gone up mid job) to very high. I decided to work with TR Consultants (Tom) for several reasons: 1. Tom seemed extremely knowledgeable about construction issues and particularly issues in a coastal environment. 2. He was passionate about his work and invited me to see some other jobs of his - finished and not - and his work was second to none. 3. He's an extremely strait forward, honest, and easy to work with guy. I particularly needed someone I could trust since I do not live in Florida and most of the work would be done with me not there. 4. Rather than just hand me a quote and say: "I'll build it for this", Tom made me aware of different options, the costs associated with each, and his recommendations. I really had no idea what some of the other quotes were for! During the job he stayed in touch with me - almost daily - and sent me photos of the work in progress. I mentioned renovation . . while he was working on the deck other guys that I had hired for odd jobs would come by. I made sure that he was there when they did and he would make sure things were done right. - not his job, but just a desire to see things done right. He handled everything and kept me in the loop (I'm an annoying control freak). He also made me aware of other issues with the house (rotten framing, etc) and asked what I wanted done, with his recommendations. The Deck is a show piece, the house is solid, and I will definately be using him further in the renovation.
