I'm surprised at some of the bad reviews. I've bought a new unit from them, bought and used their annual maintenance, and called them to install a remote-controlled thermostat. In every case, they showed up on time, did excellent work, cleaned up the job site, and did not have to return to "fix" something they didn't get right the first time.
Description of Work: Multiple, including installing a new unit as well as performing annual maintenance.

HORRIBLE SERVICE via AC Design. Home was built by KB Homes. We have a warranty remaining on AC/heating unit via AC Design. Parts are covered under warranty, however, AC Design company is requesting full payment before they order the parts covered under warranty and before they start/complete the service. They have recently changed their policy, but I also have a policy that I do not pay for services before they are rendered. Unfortunately, I am being bullied because I need this AC company to complete the repairs since it's under their warranty, but I would never recommend this company to anyone in the future. Buyer beware!

We bought a brand new house in 2020 the AC unit was installed and serviced by AC Designs since then. Every time a technician came to service the unit they were pushing sales telling us that parts were broken ie capacitor , hard start kit needed, and recently need to replace the crank heater that burnt. We found out from their own technicians during a later visit for maintenance that parts were not even defective. The technique they use is always the same part is under warranty but they charge a ridiculous amount for labor. The last episode was that our crank heater needed to be replaced because it burnt, and labor would cost $380 to install it. We found out from their technician that the only problem was that the wire was too short so he couldn’t fix it. The fix would have taken a couple of minutes. As the AC unit was installed and serviced by AC designs from the beginning we guess that the crank heater was either neither hooked up by them, or that something happened when it was serviced but that part wasn’t burnt. We thought it was unfair and asked to speak with a manager. Someone that didn’t introduce himself called us back after we left a message to Shannon Booker their customer service manager. As previously experienced they told us that this is their policy and we have to pay if we want the crank heater to be replaced. They could care less about customer service, refuse to fix their own mistakes, and arrogantly tell us to go elsewhere if we’re not happy with their policy. We do not recommend AC designs as we think they are pushing sales and charging a ridiculous amount for labor. When you try to discuss the issues with their management they could care less and act dishonestly.

AC Designs Inc. The biggest scam artist in Air Conditioning Companies! I purchased a new home 04/2016 and the AC unit was installed by AC Designs. After three years the lower floor was not cooling. I contacted AC Designs whom acknowledged the unit was under a ten year warranty and responded the same day. The tech responded in a timely fashion and quickly diagnosed the lower floor not cooling due to a failed "damper motor." I was advised the motor was under full-warranty and I would only be responsible for the cost of installation. The motor was installed which only took TEN MINUTES. I was provided with a hand written receipt with the outstanding balance of $800.00 for the cost of the installation. I immediately questioned the cost and was advised, "I don't make the prices." After voicing my concerns of possible price-gouging and requesting a supervisor to respond, the tech immediately advised me of "discounts" he could provide. The discounts would lower the cost and if I purchased a service plan agreement, it would lower the cost even more. So after the discounts and purchasing the service plan (two annual cleanings $199.00) my new total was $400.00. I thought the new price was fair to include the service plan. During that night I noticed the AC unit was running constantly and again I had to call the AC nightmare company. Again the same tech responded and diagnosed the problem. The tech advised the WiFi thermostat to be reprogrammed after the replacement of the damper motor but could not explain why he did not perform this when he replaced the motor. Once the thermostat was reprogrammed I was provided with another hand written invoice with an outstanding balance of $200.00. Again I did not agree with the new cost to reprogram the thermostat. I requested for a supervisor to respond and had one the following day. The supervisor and the same tech responded and again tried to justify the cost but was ultimately waived. Now moving forward two years (04/2022) later I noticed three rooms not cooling. I knew immediately I had another failed damper motor. I contacted the AC nightmare company and again was advised the unit was still under warranty and a tech would contact me 30 minutes prior to his arrival. The tech and a trainee arrived several hours later. The tech diagnosed the problem and advised the "jumper damper motor" which controls the three rooms was stuck in the closed position and needed to be replaced. The tech advised that the motor is out of warranty. I questioned the tech about the warranty and was advised the damper motor is only under warranty for 5 years. I had a guest staying in one of the rooms not cooling so I just wanted to get it repaired. I requested an invoice of the total cost for parts and labor. The tech went to his van and later came back in. The tech provided me with an invoice on his smartphone. The total was $688.00. I questioned the tech about what his hourly rate was and the cost was for the motor. The tech advised that the price is based on the job and not an hourly rate and could not provide the retail price for the motor (Amazon $97.00). I again made it well aware I felt this was another scam by the AC nightmare company. I then made the decision to take my business/ repair to an honest company. The tech went to his van and after thirty minutes came back with a hand written invoice. The invoice was for the service ($45.00) call and also included the proposed estimate to replace the motor but now the estimate included a 20% discount, so now the cost to replace the motor would be $550.40. The following morning I climbed into the attic and located the damper motor. The motor was still covered by the original duct insulation. The insulation only had a very small cut for the low voltage wiring to be exposed for connection. I cut back the insulation and found that the long hex screw which locks onto the damper door was just stuck in the insulation. After cutting the insulation back the motor operated as intended to. The moral of this story is: Call your local Police Agency prior to calling AC DESIGNS because you're going to get robbed! And place an old phone book in your shorts because it's going to hurt when they put it to you. They are going to find something wrong with your AC and Heating unit when in fact there is no repairs needed. They price their services by the demand from the public and make it common practice to price-gouge. The price-gouging money is then passed down to the service techs. Please don't be a Victim to AC Designs. All AC and Heating units have a warranty which are transferable so don't feel obligated to stay with any company you're not happy with. Please see attached estimate which states the damper was "stuck shut" and not that the motor was inoperative or needed to be replaced.

These people are so unprofessional. Had my house built in 2015 and with in the first year it went out. The came out said we needed a part and that took almost 2 weeks, they didn’t keep us informed in fact we had to call them to get updates! After they fixed it it went out again. We had to call another company to fix the same problem because they said we had no warranty it went out for the same problem. Fast forward to this month Jun A/C went out again. I have been without air for two weeks at this point in this Florida weather with 3 children in my home. This company takes no responsibility for their work and and the fact they installed a garage unit it out home! My A/C unit should not go out 3 times in 3 years.

Description of Work: Have used AC Designs for over 8 years. In 8 years have had 3 sets of coils replaced and a compressor and capacitor. This on a brand new house and brand new system that they installed. Their reply is always the same that they can't predict when thing will go bad. Have had other professionals look at system and actually laugh at quality of work and also scratch their heads telling me that they had no idea what they were thinking n installation. Never again. Great - I would call them if I had any air conditioning needs and have recommended them to our neighbors.
Description of Work: I called another company first at the recommendation of a friend and to replace the part that my 4 year old air conditioner needed was going to be $1100. I called AC Designs (who came out the next day) and their quote was $702.00 for the same work. Jeremy told me the part was being redesigned and would be 2-3 weeks before they could get it from the factory. Two weeks later he had the part, and again came the next day and installed it. It was making a slight noise so I called the company who sent out Chris. He checked everything and it turns out it was due to the redesign of the part. Both men were very professional - calling 30 minutes before arrival, putting booties on before entering the house and taking the time to show both my husband and myself (separately) the problem. I would highly recommend them.

AC designs installed my unit back in 2010. I called and "registered" my 10-year warranty with them. They even sent out a technician to align the home AC how I wanted. Ever since they've been terrible. Always trying to sneak in hidden service charges or claim my unit is out of warranty. They apparently didn't contact the parts company to add on the extended 5-year warranty so now my unit is out of warranty. They quoted me $600 for the same service that cost $150 two years ago. They accept no responsibility, nor remorse. And they charged $135 for the service visit where they did nothing to fix my unit. I'd never recommend them!
Description of Work: AC stopped working in the dead of summer on a weekend. Turns out it was the blower motor that needed to be replaced. (They replaced the same blower motor back in 2015).

Completely UNRELIABLE! They failed to show up for their scheduled 11am-1pm appointment for service so I accommodated them by taking the rest of the day off from work so they could service the AC from 1-3pm. Surprise! They failed to show up and their manager said they were supposed to call since they knew the technician could not make the appointment. Any company that has such poor regard to scheduling their work and cares so little about their customer's time deserves the lousy rating and angry comments they receive online.

We called for an estimate on replacing our AC, which failed on a weekend. Jason, the sales manager, was very knowledgeable. He did not try to do a hard sell. Rather, he explained in lay terms, efficiency factors (SEER) and different brands. We had a list of questions, which he answered thoroughly. Jason was the most credible sales rep of the five we had invited to give us estimates. One other outfit gave a lower price, but the sales rep was not credible. Our installer Michael was on time and went out of his way to make sure that everything was done according to how we wanted it--including the placement of the outdoor unit. He even went into the attic and taped duct work. He took his time to make sure we understood how everything worked, including the WIFI thermostat he installed. We are very pleased with this company and would recommend it to anyone needing AC work.

EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! The price seemed high ($189.00) until the service person explained that the price is for the year. We have 2 units on our house and they performed service on both of them twice. That comes out to $47.25 per unit. Works for me. This is the company that put the units in when the house was constructed so it seems to us that they should know all the details about the units. In a previously owned home we had the misfortune of not using the original installer and it didn't go well when we switched to programmable thermostats and added a humidifier. Not the case with A/C Design as we asked several questions and the tech had all the answers. The work was performed quickly and cleanly and we will be bring them back again.

The first service went well in Saint Augustine, however the next day found that system wasn't cooling any more.. Called back a week later when it became really obvious that the compressor ran all the time and used lot's of electricity(!). Repair team found a bad expansion valve. When I asked for some adjustment in the service plan $ due to the sudden failure of a working system, going from working fine (as the system tech said it was) to broken, non-working the next day, requiring a repair, replacement of a part for the problem not being caught until it failed, they simply refunded my money and wished me well. I suspect that the management said it was, '...one of those unfortunate things' that simply happen. I felt otherwise and wanted a refund because of the power consumption and delay due to the 'slow fail' of the problem that occured. The repair, when it happened, was first rate.

We moved into a 5 year old house in 2011 and soon discovered we had an odor issue....musty air. Worked with one local company that and quot;tookand quot; us, After talking with multiple firms we determined we had a mis-matched system and also needed some additional returns to balance solve the problem. We had 3 firms spec and bid the job. The combination of knowledge, price, and service resulted in us choosing A/C Design. The installers were wonderful--- professional and friendly. We have had them do our annual checks and warranty items...the office staff is professional, their techs show up on time or call ahead to let you know if they are running behind. They solved our problem at a competitive price --- with excellent customer service.

A/C Designs was the contractor our developer used to install the unit in our home. They provided a very reasonable rate for annual servicing of our unit and they recently performed their first service. Scheduling was a breeze. I was first impressed by the technician when he put protective covering on his shoes when entering my home. He explained what he was going to be doing and asked to be escorted to the unit. He spoke about the unit and did talk in technical jargon and was very thorough in his evaluation and cleaning of our system. His recommendations were reasonable and also quoted me a case of filters at a price better than I would find at local hardware stores. I am very happy with this A/C Designs and plan on continuing to use them for all my a/c service needs.

It was all pretty painless. Each appointment was started on time or early and completed on time or early. Installer was courteous and knowledgeable. And he didn't mind the multitude of questions I had about the new system. He checked and rechecked things to make sure they were right and how he would want them "in his home". Cleaned up the work area upon completion and made sure I understood all the paperwork. County inspection had a minor hiccup but was quickly and easily corrected. Salesman made sure that I had all the information I needed to submit for the rebate with local power authority. All in all, it was a great experience (even with having to replace the system at all). I would heartily recommend A/C Designs to family and friends!!!

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE Customer service. We bought our home new and moved in September of 2009. That December when we turned on our heat, cold air kept blowing on us. This was our first home with electric heating/air. When I called A/C Designs, the woman behind the desk told me there was nothing wrong with the system; she told me that b/c I'm used to gas forced air, I didn't know that electric hvacs operate differently. I told her I knew what heat felt like and that this wasn't it. She got an attitude with me and asked if the temperature in the house went up. I told her it did, but it took a very very long time to get there and she told me I would just need to understand that it's fine and just works differently than I'm used to. After ridiculous JEA bills all winter long, I was able to keep the heat off for a couple of months. When I turned the a/c on in late April, only warm air came in and although I set my thermostat to 72, my temperature was at 80 degrees and climbing. I called back again and finally they sent a technician out. He told me there was a freon leak and said he just needed to replace the freon. I didn't know any better and my husband was on deployment so I assumed filling the freon would solve the problem. It did temporarily. We had to call them back out again a couple of months later b/c again, the house was pushing cold air when it should have been producing heat. At that time, the technician told us the coils had leaks and both units (upstairs and down) needed to be replaced. This technician also told us that they (A/C Designs) knew these units from the manufacturer were bad--there were about 10 houses in my neighborhood who got these units at the same time (new construction) and just about ALL of us have had coil issues. I asked to technician why the homeowners weren't notified if they knew there was a problem, and I was told that they would not say anything unless the customer complained of a problem. This made me so angry b/c months earlier I did call with a complaint and was dismissed by the RECEPTIONIST and then the first technician just put a band-aid on the problem instead of correcting it properly. Both unit's coils were replaced. We initially had copper and the new ones were aluminum. These were replaced in 2010. We just had to replace them both AGAIN this year. Apparently, the technician did not clean or make sure all the copper residue from the initial coils was gone and that residue effected the new aluminum coils. At this point, we decided to use another company and not deal with A/C designs ever again, however, the manufacturer requested proof that the coils were replaced by A/C Designs in 2010 so I called and asked them to send me a copy of the invoice. You'd have thought I was asking for the moon! The receptionist told me that it just wasn't possible and that she wasn't going to do it. I asked her why and she told me that they are all in boxes. Unbelievable. I asked her if she had any type of documentation on her computer under our customer file and finally convinced her to fax me a copy of our customer screen which shows there were out in 2010. I'm happy to say that our coils have now been replaced and a/c is functioning properly. STAY FAR AWAY from this company. They are dishonest and the front office is extremely rude. Sadly, mine is not the only horror story of my neighborhood dealing with them. Stay away!!!
