Friday night when I came home & turned on the air conditioner I heard a loud banging in the condenser fan. I opened it and found some wires had slipped and the fan sliced them, severing their connections. The unit is ancient, over 20 years old, and has had a lot of jerry-rigged repairs done to it, including electrical bypasses to keep it going until I can afford a new one. Because of the electrical situation, I wasn’t confident enough to rewire the severed wires. Late Saturday afternoon I called Holmes Cooling & Heating, whom I’d found on Angie’s List earlier, intending to leave a message to ask someone to come out Monday to do the repair. Bart Holmes, the owner, answered personally—right there enough to earn an A for responsiveness, punctuality & professionalism. When I described the situation to him in my vague layperson terms, he understood immediately, identified the wires in question by color, confirmed that I did need only reconnect the two wires, told me the tools I needed & what to do, then stayed on the line while I re-opened the unit to make sure I understood, even though he had been on his way out to a movie. He did say it was a simple and easy repair and assured me if it were technical or risky he would have come out, but, in essence, by guiding me through the process he saved me a couple hundred dollars in repair bills, got my house cooled off that night, and I got a good lesson in how condensers work. He very easily and not unethically could have done the repair but he sacrificed a job’s worth of income for my convenience. From what I've read & from my experiences, he really deserves his Super Service award & AL-Certified designation. I’d read in many reviews that he’s like this, which is why I called him. Actually I contacted him a few months earlier about installing a new unit, and then also he was informative, obviously highly knowledgeable & experienced about what units fit what configurations and sizes of houses, and was very low-pressure about trying to sell me anything. The whole conversation was expert advice rather than a sales pitch. But it worked. I need my existing unit to get me through the remainder of the season, but as soon as I get my finances arranged, Holmes is the contractor I’m going to call for my new air conditioner.

Bart Holmes, the owner, knew his business. He was on time, did the work quickly and was very professional. He was very personable and honest. The price was fair and we intend to hire him if we have any other issues with our AC and we will recommend him to our friends.

The installation went as expected. What I'm very pleased with is the after sale service. My unit was installed three years ago. It stopped cooling last night. After trying everything I knew to try, I called Bart. He walked me through everything I could check. After 20 minutes on the phone, he told me to jiggle a control wire to the compressor. Wow, it came on. He asked when my last lawn service was, answer- yesterday. He said that, often, a worker could hit that wire with the weedeater and break the connection. Told me how to make the repair myself, as long as I felt comfortable doing it safely. If I ran into any trouble, call him. He spend 20 minutes, 8:30 in the evening to help me avoid a service call. Bart is an incredible guy, not only is he an absolute expert in his field but he is very honest with his assessment of your issue and his pricing. Bart came by on a Saturday morning while I was working and in fact I left my key for him so he could just come by and work on the unit. I could not be more pleased with his work and his honesty. He has been out to my home about 3 times for small issues prior to this one. Each time he has walked me through the problem and shown me exactly what was wrong and what needed to be repaired. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of an honest a/c guy who does great work.

Our home required a complete upgrade of our A/C and heating system. The home was unoccupied for over a year and unfortunately we had a large infestation of rats that took up residency in our attic. They chewed through most of the air ducting. I received 4 quotes as I knew it was going to be an extremely tough job. Even though Holmes wasn't the cheapest quote the owner Bart took his time to explain the entire process. He went over the job completely and explain the process to us. We explained the home never really cooled correctly. Bart did a heating/cooling load calculation and a drawing to place new ducting and vents throughout the home. (at no additional charge). He worked with our sub contractor removed all the old ducting and installed the new ducting, new air handler and ran new copper lines and drains throughout the attic. He mounted everything to code (permit pulled of course) and installed a new compressor on a new concrete pad outside. I have to tell you this was a tough. Very dirty and time consuming. Bart and his crew worked their butts off and as a result our home is so nice and cool now. The air flow throughout the home is amazing (what a difference). The permit was signed off with the city without any changes or issues. I highly recommend Holmes Cooling and Heating, Inc. Professional and courteous throughout the entire process. A++++ in my book.

Bart Holmes, the Owner, personally performed the tech service without incident. He came within one hour after I called for service. You can't be that, especially in Florida.

I called on a Sunday afternoon, and owner Bart Holmes answered the call right away. He first advised over the phone to make sure the fan was was set to AUTO, not ON. I appreciate so much how he tried to help me resolve the problem myself; but it turned out that it was not that simple. Since it was not an urgent situation, we set an appointment for Monday. Mr. Holmes arrived punctually and checked the fan, motor, and wiring. My system is older; and my friends had not replaced the wiring correctly, so we needed to replace some components: evaporator fan motor, air handler circuit board, and evaporator fan motor capacitor. Work was completed the same day, and the system is working perfectly now. I have used Mr. Holmes before; but this is my first review on Angie's List. He is honest, fair, skilled, and experienced. I'm very happy I have an AC company I can trust.

Mr. Holmes came on time. He was very knowledgeable and personable. We would definitely call him whenever our a/c needs service.

Holmes Heating and Cooling arrived to diagnose an A/C that had stopped working. Unit required a new capacitor which took approximately 30 minutes to install. Capacitor costs approximately $25 and my invoice shocked me at $310. Checked on-line for basic charges for a service call and 30 minutes to install a capacitor plus parts and should have been billed around $180 to $200. I would not recommend Holmes Heating and Cooling to anyone.

Bart is professional yet down to earth. He is very honest and acts with integrity. He delivers on what he promises. After he completed the installation he not only called to check to see how the new system was running but came out a week afterwards to actually check to see how the system was working. Bart did not try to sell me anything and guided me through the process of choosing the right manufacturer and size unit that was appropriate for our situation. He is not the cheapest a/c contractor but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Honesty and integrity are what stood out for me.

Excellent. As an out of state owner, reliability and integrity of repair persons is always a concern. Bart sets the standard for excellence. I have relied on him for many years to insure that the air conditioning is functioning, and in an emergency when it breaks, he always responds in a time that less than the initial estimate. He is honest and communicates with me regularly as to his arrival, the nature of the issue, the cost, when the repair is complete and issues to watch out for in the future. I cannot recommend him highly enough. As there have been many service calls over the years, please note that the cost of service has differs, but has always been reasonable.

The owner called immediately to set up the appointment. The day of the appointment we were having EXTREME driving delays due to the highway being shut down almost all day. He called to let me know he was running late (which I was too since I was stuck in the same traffic jam). I told him we could reschedule since it was getting late but he still stopped by early evening and performed a thorough tuneup. He took the time to tell me about the status of our a/c unit and tips on home maintenance or things to look for if the system ever stops. He is a pleasure to deal with. I told him it is refreshing to find an honest and friendly contractor. I have his card handy for future tuneups, repairs, or ultimate replacement if needed. I would highly recommend him!

Holmes cooling is by far the best AC company around. Bart the owner personally comes out to either do the work or make sure it is done properly. He is honest and offers advise without charging to avoid service calls that could be not necessary. It would be a pleasure to recommend them to anyone that needs repairs. He also installed a new unit at half the price of the company we were using in the past that it turned out miss wired a new unit that was having problems.

Made an appointment for later in the day. Steve arrived on time and was very courteous and knowledgeable. I have a large complex solar hot gas assisted unit that he knew without any problems. He was able to pinpoint the defective part & bypass it in short order. He also checked the gas levels & compressor performance. I think the $125.00 repair/service charge was very reasonable & strongly recommend this company for your AC/heating needs.

Bart Holmes responded to my phone call message in a timely manner, even though he was suffering from the flu. He did his best to troubleshoot my issues over the phone. After exhausting those options, I told him to just give me a call back when he was feeling better. Later that afternoon, he said that he was out and could come by to take a look at the system. And that he did. After evaluating the situation, he discovered that a small fuse had blown in the air handler. Problem solved. We appreciated his willingness to accommodate us, even when feeling poorly, I hope that the cup of hot tea I had waiting for him helped! We have definitely found our new AC company- knowledgeable, personable, and responsive. Thank you, Bart!

BART was just the nicest most honest man, his years of experience allowed him to diagnose the problem within minutes which ended up being a faulty thermostat. BART told us we were definitely not in need of a new A\C system at this time and suggested we were being taken advantage of 30 minutes later our problem was fixed and we were spared from unnecessarily spending all of our money before Christmas. Guys like BART remind me that there are still good honest people left in the world. I️ would recommend him again and again.

Everything went very smoothly and efficiently. Mr. Holmes told us that his team would arrive between 7:30 and 8:00, and they did. The installation of the new a/c unit went perfectly, and Mr. Holmes himself came to ensure that everything was in running order before the team left.
