Bart Holmes provides amazing service. Several weeks ago my air conditioner stooped cooling and the coils were covered with ice. I called Bart who spent about 20 minutes instructing me how to get the coils to thaw. He clearly stated that if that didn't work to contact him again. Most companies would have sent out a truck and charged me for a service call. About three weeks later the coils were frozen again. When I called Bart back he explained all of the potential reasons why this happened and what the cost would be for each possibility. He promptly made a service call and quickly made the diagnosis and repaired it. He is always prompt and explains exactly what's wrong. Many times he solves the problem without a charge or visit. I have used him many times and have always been greatly satisfied with his service. His prices are fair and he absolutely stands by his work. I strongly recommend him with no hesitation whatsoever!!

Bart Holmes is a great guy who really wants to help customers and solve their problems. I had an issue where even though I have a new air handler and compressor they still don't cool down my place enough when it's hot outside. Bart spent almost an hour (58 minutes) on the phone with me asking questions about every aspect of my HVAC system - about my air handler, my condenser unit, where they are, copper lines, how they did the install, about my ducts, weathersealing, had me test a few quick things over the phone, etc - this guy left no stone unturned. I've talked to a number of A/C techs in the past and Bart is the most knowledgable I've ever dealt with. He pointed me in the right direction of what I needed to do to fix my problems. I didn't realize my county is out of Holmes' service area, but Bart knew all along and still spent an hour on the phone with me helping me diagnose my problem and giving me good advice. Thanks Bart!

It was a pleasure to work with Bart! He really knows his A/C. He gave me couple options, but was very clear that the unit needed to be replaced. He got the job done quickly and at a decent price point. He actually put all the AC units into our community 25 years ago, so he really knew the house well. I have recommended him to several people here in the neighborhood and they love him also!

Re: Bart Holmes, Owner, Master Technician and HVAC contractor at Holmes Cooling and Heating, West Palm Beach, Recently I phoned this Company to request service for my HVAC system which did not appear to be dehumidifying my home properly. I spoke directly to Mr. Holmes himself. When I informed him that an AC tune-up service had just been performed several days prior (by another company) Mr. Holmes proceeded, on the phone, to walk me through various checks in an effort to troubleshoot the system. He was motivated by a desire to save me the cost of additional service charges if at all possible. Under his expert guidance I was able to find the problem and to correct it myself. This combination of solicitude, patience, courtesy and professionalism denotes customer service of a very high order. Mr Homes and his Company deserve my highest recommendation.

We had to replace the unit with a different vendor after the repair. His quote was not accurate. If we knew he was going to charge $1000 to recharge system which did not work, we would have not wasted our money.

I spoke to Bart Holmes, the owner. A total gentlemen and decent guy who answered all my questions about a replacement A/C Package unit. The kind of answers you would never get in a google search from 40 years of HVAC experience. I would have hired him on the phone but he does not service my area. He gave some leads on who to hire in my area. They don't make them like Bart anymore.

Mr Holmes was wonderful! After not being able to reach my normal A/C company, I found Mr Holmes via Angie's List on Friday night and he arrived at my home the next morning! He diagnosed the problem, gave me some options for repair, and ultimately brought my unit back to life! He was professional, courteous, and informative. I will DEFINITELY use him again!

Excellent installation. Our A/C died on a Friday afternoon. By late Saturday morning we had a new state of the art A/C unit installed and running. Bart Holmes is the quintessential professional. Highly recommended.

My 30+ year air handling system failed. Mr. Holmes knew that this part of my system was probably done with. He tried a couple of parts that did not work. He had to leave for another appointment, but took a photo and did some research. His suppliers told him that this handler did not exist any more. However, one supplier found one on a shelf, and could ship it, but would not guarantee performance since it was so old. Mr. Holmes gave me an option of getting and installing the air handler or replace whole new system (new compressor unit and updated air handling unit) with a 10 year guarantee. I mulled it over and called him back and opted for the whole new system. Bart came back out, evaluated what I needed and gave me a quote. Bart was able to obtain the system on Saturday morning and a crew and the whole system was installed and running by 3:30 PM on Saturday. I highly recommend this company, because Mr. Holmes is very honest and educational. Another positive experience with Angie's list.

Burt was friendly and quick. He identified the age and told me the unit was at the end of its normal life span. He said that while it was working great now, I should be watchful and start planning ahead for a necessary replacement in the future. I appreciate his advice.

I called Holmes Air Conditioning and the phone was answered by the owner Bart Holmes. I explained my issue which was my home air conditioner would turn on but would sometimes blow hot air. After talking with me for a good 10 minutes, Mr. Holmes set up an appointment to meet with me at my home the next day. He met me at the time discussed and spent well over an hour diagnosing and going over options with me. Because the a/c only does this some of the time and was working properly he told me that my best option was to wait until it did it again and then call him back so he could properly diagnose the problem before I dump money into it chasing possible solutions. I believe his professionalism and honesty is rare in South Florida and almost unheard of in the air conditioning business. The charge for the service call and hour of his time was $50.00. If you are searching for some integrity, I can highly recommend Bart Holmes.

I called Holmes Heating & Cooling and Bart (the owner) answered the phone. He spent a great lengthy time with me on the phone explaining some solutions for us! Mr. Holmes saved us so much money by just being patient & helpful over the phone with me even though we have never met! I know I will need Service in the future, as well as some of my family members. The owner of the company came to my apt., diagnosed the problem quickly and installed what's called a float switch to make sure my a/c would shut off if the drain got clogged. He washed down the coil, cleared the drain, inspected the system thoroughly, checked refrigerant levels and changed the filter I provided. He was on-time, very personable and cleaned up when he was through. The price was very fair for the service I got. Definitely would call Holmes Cooling & Heating again!

I found Bart Holmes on Angie’s List a while back & was impressed with the amount of A reviews & his two certifications. I called him out for an estimate a couple of years ago but was subsequently unable to find funds for an air conditioner at that time. Last fall my condenser fan went out on a Saturday evening. I called Mr Holmes intending to leave a message for Monday but he answered the phone personally. He was on his way out to the movies but instead of coming out Monday, he sacrificed a service call & walked me through the repair process. By sundown I had cool air again. Because of the above I didn’t take bids when I finally got the money for a new unit, I just called Holmes. And here come the problems. . . . First, I have to say Bart Holmes, the owner, handled everything from estimate to post-installation, reviews you read about him doing most or all the work are true. Problem 1: the unit itself. He said there just are no great units anymore, that cost-cutting and moving manufacturing to other countries and competition almost forces a “planned obsolescence” situation. He said he has been keeping records on his own installations & on those of colleagues to see what breaks down when for major brands. The unit he recommended for me was a name I hadn’t heard before but it is made in the US. He said the blower &/or coil will go out in 5-10 years, still under warranty, but they’ve been lasting longer on this brand than on other brands in his research. Which leads to. . . . Problem 2: installation. Holmes said regardless of how good a unit is, it has to be installed correctly, you can’t send someone out, throw it in & drive away. And boy was he right. His main concern for me was, could he get the unit in so he could get to the blower & coil when they fail. My house is nearly 100 years old with a flat roof so the a/c & ducting had been retrofit into a belfry & what passes for an attic. The new unit is a tiny bit bigger than the old one, just enough to make it possibly too big to fit. He brought out a colleague to re-measure it & give his opinion before he would accept the job. It did fit, and three of them spent a day dragging the old unit out & down a ladder then hauling the new one up & positioning it in my belfry, with almost no room to move. In short, they took an awful lot of time and backbreaking effort to make sure it was installed properly rather than jam it in & go on to another job, which of course cost them labor money they had to absorb. And that leads to. . . . Problem 3: post-installation tweaking. Because the way the unit was installed—and they did hook it up to existing fixtures to save drilling new holes in my cinder block walls, potentially unleashing new problems—and because of its design, my drain pipe, which was almost horizontal from unit to wall originally, was even more horizontal now, causing drain water to back up & flip the cut-off switch. Mr Holmes warned me about this in advance & said this is the trickiest part of installation & has to be played with until you find just the right slope (if you have a vertical drain pipe this isn’t an issue). Well, it took him three extra trips out, and each time he spent at least four hours trying to find the right slope, at his own expense. Each time I called, of course at night when the switch tripped, four hours after it seemed fixed, he was there the next morning—no delays, no having me wait until he could fit me in. The upshot is, they worked very long & **** ** installing a unit that was fairly small & not a big money-maker job in the first place, and put in a lot of extra time at their expense to see that it ran correctly, even though the problem was not a fault of the unit or installer. As I’m writing this, the unit just kicked on again, working perfectly for 10 days. Price for all this came in near the high end of the bids I got in I think 2015 or so before I’d heard of Holmes. When you adjust for inflation & several increases in costs over the years, I think it was a great price especially considering the amount of engineering & sweat that went into installation (plus it included duct cleaning). PS One other problem, Problem 0, pre-installation. I couldn’t afford cash for this, I had to take out a loan. My bank was going to take 45 days to get through the paperwork, & a PACE loan was going to be too complicated for many reasons (normally it’s a great deal, just not in this particular case). Another reason I chose Holmes is because he works through a financing agency that is actually very good. I looked them up & they’re rated A on Better Business Bureau, & have very few complaints for a national finance company. Interest rates are pretty competitive with my bank, maybe a tad higher for an unsecured loan, but approval happens in an hour, not 45 days. And technically they’re kind of a loan company of last resort, if you can’t get a loan from your bank—considering that, their terms & rates are far lower than I expected from a company that could have soaked you when you are out of options.

We called Bart Holmes when our AC unit was not cooling the house and he took the time to patiently walk us through steps to diagnose and fix our problem (clogged drain) over the phone so we could get our system back online immediately and avoided an unnecessary service call. We've used Holmes Cooling and Heating many times in the past and Bart has always been professional, courteous, and goes the extra mile to help his customers.

Bart was by far the most knowledgeable, honest and fair contractor we have ever met. We needed to replace three air conditioning units. From the beginning, he was upfront, he explained every detail so that you could understand exactly what needed to be done. His price was fair and reasonable. He came back to double check all measurements before he began the job. His employees, Chris Williams and Joey Williams were prompt, nice, and professional. They were neat and clean throughout the whole job. They are an asset to his company. Bart was there throughout the whole installation. He even took the time to help us register the units for the warranty. We felt at ease throughout the whole process. We know that he will be there to assist if an issue ever arises. Its no wonder why he has been in business for over thirty years. We highly recommend him.

I had an emergency develop when my A/C stopped cooling and I was having a great number of people coming to my house later in the day. I called Holmes Cooling and Heating. Bart Holmes answered the phone and I explained the situation. The end result was that Bart showed up at my house a couple of hours later and fixed the problem. I can't even begin to explain how grateful my whole family was. I would recommend Holmes Cooling & Heating to anyone and will definitely use them in the future, when the need arises.
