Shawn called before he came and was prompt and professional. He was clear in describing our options and made us aware of the service fee before performing a diagnostic on the outside unit.
Description of Work: Shawn checked for a vibration in the outside unit. He checked for loss of cooling and tightened and replaced screws and extended the drain. It is in good condition.

I cannot begin to express just how unprofessional this company is. I am baffled as to how they get so many positive reviews. Many of our friends and colleagues, whom we have shared our experience with, have also had negative run-ins with this company. I only wish that we would have talked with them first before just going off of the good reviews on Angie's List. Our air conditioner suddenly stopped working one morning in June of this year. We called Ellington (who was rated first on Angie's List) to come out and diagnose and fix our unit. Mike E. showed up and basically told us that he couldn't begin to diagnose our problem until we purchased one of their packages. He kept pushing their platinum package with was priced around $1,000. The "bandage package", their cheapest one, was priced close to $300. He then added that after we purchased a package, it obviously would cost more to then diagnose and fix our A/C. He kept repeating that he could not fix or evaluate our machine until we first purchase a package deal. When my husband kept pressing him as to why, Mike E. then accused him of wanting to know what was wrong so that he could fix our A/C himself. If that was the case, why would we call them in the first place?? At this point, my husband was fed up and did not trust this technician and told him that we would call somebody else who was willing to help us. Mike would not leave before we paid him the service fee of $99. Please tell me, what valid and honest service was performed? We then called another company (All Air and Heat) and the owner, John, came out and diagnosed our problem and had our A/C running within a few minutes. His TOTAL cost? $75. I highly recommend that you look elsewhere before calling this company. They will surely spin any excuse to make the customer look foolish and defend that they were doing their job. Trust me, they will swindle you if they think that they can. My husband called to complain a few times and try to get our money back and was told by the service manager that he didn't care if we wrote a bad review. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I just wanted to respond to your statement below. Yes, maybe this all was a big misunderstanding. No, my husband did not say "Either you give me my $99 back or I will leave a bad review on Angie's List". He did say that he was disappointed with the service that we received and that he would share how he felt on Angie's List. If that is threatening, I am sorry. We are not in the business of threatening people. When John (from All Air & Heat) came out, he said that the wires (that Mike E. said had been tampered with) that were not connected to the terminals did NOT NEED to be connected. That was not the problem. My husband had never touched the AC, so to be accused of tampering with it, yes, it is insulting. And when John got our air conditioner working, those particular wires were still NOT connected and never were connected. Additionally, the only diagnosis that we received from Mike E. was him saying to my husband, as he was leaving, "Is this what you're looking for? Fine...you have a bad transformer". We just feel that everything was handled unprofessionally by your technician. Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows? Yes, we did dispute the charge with our credit card company, but we did not state that you had never arrived. Where that came from on their paperwork, I honestly don't know. We just stated that we did not receive a valid and honest evaluation from your technician when he came out. We actually disputed the charge twice, but pulled the dispute because it's not worth fighting over. We are not people who like conflict and I apologize if it came out that way.

As with any complaint our company may receive. I personally review each of every one of them. If I did not care I wouldn't even bother. This circumstance was very unusual as when the tech arrived a bunch of wires were already tampered with. When the tech asked the customer if he removed any wires he seemed insulted. It was just a question based on many other thousands of service calls we run the wires are always in place. We always state when the caller calls in, all the customer is responsible for is the service call fee, if they choose to do nothing which is a perfectly acceptable choice or there are various repair options in which to choose from. It is the customer's choice, not ours.This way we are not assuming what the customer wants or how far they want us to dive into their system. The customer choose to repair the unit themselves and minimum quote was not $300 as I looked up the digital quote since we store all these records. Asw mentioned in the review the husband did call and threaten our service manager with "either you give me back my $99 or I will leave a bad review on Angie's List"... In regards to this I have preached and preached to our staff if there is something the customer is unhappy about then by all means the service manager needs to make a visit to the house , see what is wrong and take care of it for free, etc. But we are not in the business of buying reviews as I think it is highly unethical. All of the 700 plus reviews on Angie's List we have earned, not bought. As their statement is a testament to that. If we overcharge someone by some mistake then yes I agree 100% in a refund but in this case just because a customer messed with their unit and now can't fix it but wants it for free , absolutely not. Those wires didn't just jump off of all those terminals. To further aggravate the situation the homeowner then disputed the charge to their credit card company by stating we never arrived . After submitting the gps report we have and a signed invoice by the customer the credit card company agreed on our behalf. I am a very reasonable person and responsible business owner but threatening people with a bad review to push them around is just another form of bullying. Matters can always be resolved if they are handled maturely and we understand we are not perfect as is no one else but if you call we are more than happy to address any issue , hence the other 700 plus positive reviews. With hindsight being 20/20 we should have just repaired the unit for free with a note stating what we found with the wires and this would have avoided all parties being upset. Jason Ellington

Ellington A/C installed a new system for us in 2013. Recently the air stopped blowing cold. The next day I called them up and before lunchtime the same day my system had been repaired and everything was back to normal. They were very thorough, friendly, neat, clean, and called ahead to let us know they were on their way. Ellington A/C is one of the most professional companies I have had the pleasure of working with.

It was terrible. I hired them to put my air conditioning in three years ago. They troubleshot it down to a fan. They charged me $900 to replace a fan that costs $200 that was on warranty. It takes 15 minutes to change it. I'm an aircraft mechanic. I work on multi-million dollar jets and I know how to work with my hands and I know when I'm getting screwed. They attempted to screw me and my wife. They asked several times, are you sure you can afford this? I wasn't here, she was here by herself. We assumed that they were something about more than fair. As it turned out, they're crooks. I'll make sure that everybody knows that they're crooks. I've heard through other people in the industry that came out here and did some work after them when I had another small problem that was unrelated that they've lost all of their corporate accounts for being crooks. That they don't even go after corporate accounts any more. They shouldn't even be in business. I would never use them again. As a matter of fact, I had a service agreement with them and I told them they will never set foot in my house again.

As with any complaint that comes into our company I personally review to ensure we didn't miss something. I researched the gps and digital invoices, etc for the facts of the situation as the customer started with "he was only here 20 minutes". In this circumstance the husband called the office to complain after the wife (who was there during the service call) had approved a repair. We used a system that actually prevents anyone from being taken advantage of and allows the customer to choose their option / level of repair. In this scenario the wife choose to have a level of repair that included surge protection and to clean the blower, so yes if the bare minimum repair had been chosen to just replace the part then the charge would have been significantly lower but that is not what the customer chose. During the complaint the husband agreed we did the following: 1. Correctly & accurately diagnose the problem 2. Offer to refund the repair / diagnostic fee if a repair option is selected, if not all you owe is the diagnostic fee of $99 3. Show various choices and ask the customer to select a repair option 4. Ask the customer if they are sure in there choice as there are other options (we never want someone to feel pressure so yes we actually ask this question) 5. Get an authorized signature (which we did) 6. Commence the work 7. Ask if the customer has any questions about their system or today's services 8. Ask the customer if they are completely satisfied (the answer was yes at the point of repair) 9. Collect for authorized services not to exceed 1 penny of previous stated quote Something I failed to mention earlier. Since the homeowner approved the repair and they were out of a/c , instead of ordering the part and scheduling for the next day , the service manager of our company went and picked up the part 45 minutes away and drove it another 45 minutes to the customers home as the tech waited so we could get the customer up and running. Later that evening is when I received the phone call from the husband accusing us of taking advantage of them and charging too much? After understanding what services we offered and what his complaint was, in good faith I offered a discount on our services and he accepted. I always believe in taking the high road regardless of the situation and try my best to satisfy each customer. By offering this large discount in my mind would put the customer at ease and all would be good again. However a few weeks later I received a phone call from the husband stating these exact words "I hope you choke on your billions." and then promptly hung up. After of which now I see this review on Angie's List. I am a big fan of Angie's List and even with reviews such as this one we believe Angie's List is a great way to voice your opinion and for other's to decipher fact from fiction on. Jason Ellington

Upon arriving home around 12 noon,on a Saturday. i realized that the a/c wasn't working properly. The temp in the house was around 83 degrees but the fan was working just fine. After reading the reviews on Angie's List, I decided on Ellington A/C and Heat, a company that was local. Talked to Josh on the phone, he was polite and professional. Told me he would a tech out to my home in approximately 20 minutes. True to his word Dennis the tech showed up on time. I explained the problem, and he got to work right away. All was fixed and cool air began to flow into the house within 2hrs. Dennis was very helpful in explaining what he was going to do and how. With several options in hand, to fix the problem i chose the one right for me. There was no pressure to choose another option. I got the 1year service agreement. I have to say that the job was completed with a professional attitude. I would definitely recommend hiring this company for any further A/C work in my home.
