They were very honest and hard working. They did a real good job. They had to come back and tweak it in the first month and they came within a couple hours of us calling.

I had talked with at least 8 different Heating & Cooling contractors representing many different brands. Prices were all over the place on the exact same unit, by as much as $1800.00. I decided to go with a Trane system, which narrowed it down to three contractors. At the end the difference in price was insignificant and I decided to go with Ellington A/C and Heat for the following reasons. Jason took the time to answer all my questions. We discussed some of the other dealers and systems that I was considering and he gave his opinion on both. Praise for some, not so much for others. Then he closed the deal by selling himself and the service that he and his company would provide now and in the future. Reviews on Angie's List helped with that. The crew showed up on time and got the job done when they said they would, they were very polite and cleaned up the work area when they finished. Jason was there when the system was put into operation to make sure everything was working fine and made sure any question I had was answered. I've waited a month to post should I have had a problem to see how it would have been handled, but haven't had any.
Description of Work: Ellington A/C and Heat installed a new Trane 3 Ton XL20i Heat Pump System, with a Tam 8 air handler, high efficiency air filter system, 950 series thermostat, all new refrigerant lines, rebuild and insulation of cold air return, and a 10 year labor warranty.

iMy 14 year old A/C package unit (Trane) was still working OK, but as it was getting old and somewhat corroded from living near the beach, I decided to get a replacement before the summer sets in. Since I had no problems with the Trane in 14 years, it was a no brainer to stick with the same brand. Ellington A/C had an excellent reputation so called them. Jason came out and went over the different options and we decided to go the heat pump route as the warranty was better and it was about 30% more efficient than the package unit. On the scheduled day Dan and John came out and installed the new A/C. They were professional and through. This is the third A/C I've had to replace since moving into this home in 1970 and this is the most professional installation by far. Olivia at their office did all the paperwork necessary (permits, inspection, etc), Jason came by several times to see how things were going and Dan and John did excellent work. They both have been doing this for a number of years so know what they are doing! I have no hesitation giving them my highest recommendation and would use Ellington again in a heartbeat!!
Description of Work: Replacement of 3 ton A/C package unit with more efficient 3 ton heat pump unit. Also replaced the concrete pad it was sitting on as the new heat pump package was larger than the older package unit. New wireless thermostat also installed.

The overall experience was very positive. Jason spent a lot of time discussing options with us and answering questions on numerous occasions. We were both impressed with his patience in explaining the alternatives. The installation went well and the workers he had definitely made us feel comfortable both just having strangers in the house and that they cared about doing a good job. Approximately a month after the system was installed there was a problem with the main units control board. There were a couple of hot frustrating days with the new system waiting for the parts to come in. He was sympathetic with this and had his crew out there (including Dolph from other reports) the day the part came in. They stayed very late and got the system up and running. I want to say it was about 10:00 PM when they left. They seemed very consciences and concerned that they were doing a good job for us.
Description of Work: We have an existing older 2 story house. The upstairs is the largest part of the house (approximately 2,000 square feet) and includes a large room that is not used all of the time and therefore does not need conditioning all of the time either. The air conditioning that we have lived with for the past 6 years since buying the house was inadequate and would not keep up during the hottest days or the handful of coldest days of the year. It was a single zone for the 2 stories and we were adding air conditioning to the upstairs of the house. We spoke with 3 installers about options with quotes. Ellington brought up how a “mini-split” type of system would be the logical choice. He discussed price since it would be more expensive and included a quote of a traditional system for the upstairs. The quote for the traditional system was in line with the other quotes. Ultimately the mini split system was decided on. It was installed in early spring before it got hot. Very cool and comfortable in the house for the summer. Cold snap in early Jan and the house is warm and comfortable. Still very happy with the system.

They showed up when they promised, worked diligently until it was finished and cleaned up their mess. They did everything expected from them very well. I couldn't have been happier. Two side notes worth mentioning is several months later in Mid July (almost 100 degree heat) on a late Friday afternoon I noticed my system wasn't turning on and my house was starting to heat up. I called them and they showed up just a couple hours later and they were finished by 7 p.m. that day. How's that for service on a warranty job. It took Florida Solar 3 days to get out to fix my hot water heater. And the second note is I have been tracking the savings with the new system and during the summer months I was saving between 25-30 KWH per day. My electric bill took a huge hit. Glad I went with the Trane system instead of the lower priced brand.
Description of Work: Ellington replaced my aging central heat and air with a new Trane unit. They replaced a bit of duct work and replaced the wooden stand it was sitting on in the garage.

I usually do work on our home myself. I do not have the proper equipment to test and charge our a/c system's freon, but I have done all other repairs (electrical, cleaning, etc.) When I detected a loss of efficiency of our system, and the evaporator (in the air handler) began making gurgling noises, I suspected a freon loop problem. I looked at Angie's List and found that Ellington A/C & Heat was well-rated and very near (1.3 miles) to my home. I called at 2:50 PM and spoke with "Olivia", who said that she would send a technician over to my place around 4:00 PM. She also said that she would call me when he was leaving his last service stop to let me know when he was on his way. At 4:05, I called Olivia back and she said that the tech ("Dolph") was running a little late, but should be at my home by 4:30. Dolph drove up at 4:55 PM and went right to work. This was really quite prompt service...2-hour response time is good! It's nice to see that they proudly display the Angie's List Superior Service Award badge on their trucks and literature. I briefed Dolph about the service history of our system, and he began diagnosing as I watched. This was a simple electrical failure of a motor run capacitor that is mounted on the compressor/condenser unit (outside). This took about 10 minutes. Frankly, I was a bit embarrassed that I didn't spot this failure myself. When this cap. fails, the condenser cooling fan won't run, which is a pretty obvious clue. I actually had this problem before, and I replaced the cap. on 8-13-07...a cheap and easy do-it-yourself fix. I believe that this is a common failure, and would encourage any mechanically-inclined homeowner to look it up on the web. I have attached a photo of the old capacitor and the box for the newly installed part, just in case you are curious. This is not rocket science. Since Dolph was there, and he had the replacement part on his truck, I had him do the work. He was much faster than I would have been, and he proceeded to do a full diagnostic check on our whole system, inside and out. He was thorough, and did not try to B.S. me. I enjoyed talking with him as he worked. Our system had been over pressurized when the compressor was last replaced about six years ago, so he lowered the pressure to protect our compressor from damage. His total time at our home was 1 hour and 15 minutes. He made the obligatory pitch for a service contract and the concept that we should consider upgrading our whole system to a more efficient Trane unit that Ellington carries...but only after our current system becomes unserviceable. He wasn't pushy, and frankly, he represented his company well. I will likely use Ellington for future work...that I can't do myself. Here's how the pricing went: Repairs: $170.00 (the capacitor is inexpensive...the knowledge is valuable) Diagnostic Fee: $ 79.00 Less Coupon $ -40.00 (Thanks to Angie's List) TOTAL $209.00
Description of Work: Our air conditioning system had lost efficiency and was making a gurgling noise at the air handler. The system was quickly diagnosed, and a "motor run capacitor" was found to be bad, and was replaced. The technician (Dolph) also determined that our system was over-charged with freon, and he lowered the system pressure to specifications.

On a hot Friday evening our a/c compressor stopped working. I called Ellington and within an hour a technician arrived. He trouble shot the compressor, made repairs, and was on his way in short order. This is the second time I have used this company. The previous time was several months ago when I was required to have my unit serviced as a condition of sale of the property. I got them from Angie's List. I am well satisfied with the service that they performed on both occasions.

Overall everything went better than expected and I have used the same company since then on my commercial building.
Description of Work: I had 2 complete A/C systems replaced in my home. Jason was extremely helpful from choosing the system that best suited our home to the installation and then a followup when everything was complete. This was an expensive under taking but it was well worth it. The system performs better than I expected...completely removing the humidity which allows us to run the system at a higher temperature. The crew exceeded my expectations during installation by doing extras like checking all the duct work and resealing each one (at no extra charge). They were very careful to clean up after themselves as they worked so there was never a mess. The crew was very knowledgable and answered all my questions. The final bill was exactly what I had originally been quoted. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable honest service.

Did not charge for check out of system. Told me I could get a few more years out of my system with a little luck. Since I am retiring next year I decided to get a top of the line system installed now. Plus he reconfigured my duct work because I had uneven heating and cooling in the house. Now all the rooms are about equal in temperature all the time. He left the place cleaner than he found it. Since I work away from home most of the time he dealt with my wife most of the time. She felt very comfortable with the contractor , he explained everything to her during the process and was always on time. Which was no easy trick since my wife is not a native english speaker.

Dolph was the technician that answered my service call. I have noticed that the air conditioner is running but the house doesn't seem to be getting much cooler. It was usually taking about 3 hours for the house to lower 1 degree. I explained this to Dolph and he went and checked out the system and did a couple tests. In about 15 minutes he figured out that it was a leak. He repaired the leak and had to charge the system. Before he even left the system ran for about 30 minutes and the house was already 3 degrees cooler. Dolph was very professional and courteous. He explained everything about the leak, where it was, how it happened and what he did to repair it. I highly recommend this company and especially this technician. I will definitely use them for future business. Dolph also explained some other items that the installer didn't do as well as they could have. I will more than likely take them up on their recommendation to fix these issues since I fully trust in their service.

On my original trouble call, they responded immediately. The technician was professional and thorough...and spent several hours evaluating my unit. Finding that my system was low on refridgerant, he isolated the leak source and we talked about repair options...short and long term. He re-charged my system and contacted the business owner - Jason Ellington - to prepare an estimate for me. Jason came by at a pre-arranged time the following week and gave me an estimate. I found him to be very honest and professional. I had a lot of questions for him and he offered solid answers...he clearly understood the technical side and he made me feel like he understood that the large investment decision was very important to me. At no time did I ever feel like he was trying to "sell me" something that I didn't need. I ultimately decided to replace my entire A/C unit. Again, we made arrangements for the installation and his technicians showed up on time and ready to go to work. I took the day off from work and watched the installation. The owner also came in and helped to get the installation going. In fact, his own technicians had to tell "the boss" a couple of times to back out and let them do the work since that is what he was paying them to do. The technicians worked tirelessly thru the day, responded to my many questions, and finished the job with a very neat and professional installation. Again, the owner (Jason) was there at the end of the install to insure my satisfaction. His parting words were "you have my number...call me anytime if you have any trouble at all". Unfortunately, my unit did have a problem so I called him. He immediately got his technicians working on my system. Again, I received very prompt and professional attention from his technicians. Jason called me again to suggest I see how the unit responded to the repair and call him back if i wasn't satisfied. I sent him an email that night telling him that the unit was cooling, but not at the rate I would expect from a brand new unit. The very next morning (a Saturday) I was greeted with an email response from Jason telling me that he would be at my house to take a look at the unit. I suggested to him that it was cooling and could probably wait until Monday, but he said he wanted to come out on Saturday and make sure things were right. He promptly showed up and went thru a thorough evaluation of my system. It turned out that there was blockage in my expansion valve (a likely manufacturing defect)...a not very common problem. He got busy finding replacement parts and spent the rest of the day himself returning my system to new condition. Although I would have preferred not to have been one of the very few Trane customers with a problem on my new unit, i could not be more pleased with the professional service that i received from Ellington A/C and from Jason himself. He is clearly committed to his customers and has earned the solid reputation that he has built with his business. I would gladly recommend his company to anyone requiring A/C and heating service. Sadly, the kind of customer service offered by Jason and his team is not prevalent in today's service industry. I really feel like I have been treated fairly for the work performed. Jason earned my business and I'll absolutely turn to him again if I have future HVAC needs.
Description of Work: My original Trane A/C unit stopped working when the A/H coil froze up. I called Ellington A/C to come out on a Saturday afternoon. They diagnosed a refridgerant leak at the condenser coil. After discussing options and the relative merits of each, They gave me an estimate for a repair (outdoor coil replacement) and full unit replacement. I subsequently elected to have them replace my entire unit.

We realized on Sunday afternoon that our A/C unit was not blowing cold air. The temperature in the house was 85 degrees and climbing. We called the people who normally service our A/C, but they were closed for the holiday weekend. So, we turned to Angie's List. We called Ellington Heat and A/C and they were very responsive. They called to let us know when they were on the way (less than an hour) and it took him only a few minutes to diagnose the problem, which he promptly fixed. The technician was very personable and knowledgeable. The part was still under warranty, which made the price of the repair a little cheaper, plus they honored the discount coupon that was posted on Angie's List. All in all, this was a great experience! I was expecting to pay a lot more for an A/C repair in the middle of the holiday weekend. We will use this company again.

The trane crew was extremely efficient. Started on time was careful about making a mess and throughly cleaned up what mess they made. They went above and beyond by not just cleaning the cabinet for the inside unit out painted it as well. They completed their work on schedule. They were friendly but not imposing Mr Ellington was courteous through the initial consaltation checked up on his employees and followed up after the work was done. He made sure i was satisfied with the quality of work done and that i understand the workings of my new unit. He concluded by letting me know.

The owner, Jason came exactly when he said. He was friendly, professional and very knowledgable about my old unit, and my requirements for a new AC. He submitted a PDF estimate of 3 different options and promotions that would fit my requirements by THAT SAME EVENING of the afternoon estimate. There was great phone communication directly to and from Jason as well as the office staff. They gave me an exact time when they would do the actual install, even scheduling it during a holiday so I would qualify for the discounts and promotional financing before I went away for 3 weeks. They showed up ON TIME and worked all day removing the old, crumbling AC, reducting under the house so the unit could be moved to a more convenient location on the side of the house, installing a very sturdy concrete pad, preparing the unit for hook-up, professionally removing and replacing the siding of my house for the new ducting, enlarging the intake vent inside the house, mounting the new remote controller (very nice and easy to program) and cleaning up as if they'd never been here. I also noticed that they came back and re-plumbed the drainage so it was in a more convenient area. Two weeks later they returned to install the heat pump (which was not available at the time of installation) They also sent a 'care' package of materials and a very nice coffee cup. I wish all businesses were this professional, and easy to work with. I will recommend them to EVERYONE!
Description of Work: 3 Comprehensive Estimates for a new 3T Trane AC/Heat Pump system, including all discounts, cashbacks, tax credits and special financing. Installed 3T Trane system on a holiday because of deadlines for financing expiration AND my leaving on vacation. All the installers were very nice, worked all day in the sweating heat, and provided all the services promised in a very professional and timely matter. 2 weeks later followed up by installing an additional heat pump at no extra charge. I received a nice package with a lovely coffee cup, pens, magnets and a feedback form. I wish all companies would rise to this high standard...they have set the bar!
