The work performed by Dave's crew was outstanding. During the initial look for a contractor I interviewed and received estimates from 6 companies. Dave's estimate was app. $4,000.00to $6,000.00 less than the highest and in line with the others. There were the normal delays expected with getting multiple permits and inspection associated with doing business in Hillsborough County. There were also delays getting the cultured stone and special order door unit we wanted. Also, during the time the work was being done we had two trips scheduled. Dave arranged his work around these many distractions with no complaints. We have had multiple contractors do work on our home and Dave is without a doubt the best and most honest contractor I know. I would recommend him and his company for any remodel project. The bottom line is his crew took the architect's work and improved on it resulting in a project which not only enhances the appearance of the property but more importantly my wife loves. Thanks Dave for a job above and beyond what we expected.
Description of Work: David and his crew added a front porch area to blend in with the second story roof line. After this he installed a new front door centering it in the covered inset. He added cultured stone to both the columns which hold up the front porch and the 8ft by 6ft inset.

Thank you to this client for the great review and kind words. It is our pleasure to be able to bring this dream to reality. I personally have never encountered a nicer couple to work for. They knew exactly what they wanted and we knew how to deliver. The end result is magazine worthy and we are very proud of not only the work but the big smile on Mrs.' face! Money cant buy that kind of fulfillment! It was again our pleasure and look forward to helping with any future projects!

Excellent job! I purchased the Angie's list deal to have an electrical outlet installed outside, as we were in a bind and needed work done asap in order to complete another job. They were prompt in scheduling the service, and the job was done within 2 business days of purchasing the deal. I asked for quotes for additional electrical work we needed done, and was provided a fair, honest opinion on the work to be done, which I have learne delivery hard to come by in the electrical business! We will absolutely be having them back to complete the quoted work, and have found our new trusted electrician.

Talked to Christy on the phone - she was very knowledgeable about the type of electrical work I need completed at my home. She made an appointment for Matt to come out for the coming weekend. Matt came out and did a fantastic job adding two electrical outlets (adjacent to existing outlets) and gave estimates for other exterior lighting and electrical work. Very pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the David Spence team. My neighbor across the street talked to Matt and also had him do some work at his house later that day. Great job.

Matt did an excellent job. We are having a new cabinet made that will have glass doors, and be lit from the inside. Matt spoke twice on the phone to the cabinet maker to make sure that the receptacle and light would be in the right place. That was a generous thing to do, in my opinion. Matt was on time, friendly, and professional. He left everything cleaned up. We could not have asked for more. We found this company because I purchased a coupon. We would use them again because of this positive experience.

Thank you to this client for the great review. It was our pleasure to help. Cutting concrete to add outlets in the floor can prove to be a messy job. We are fortunate to also be General Contractors also certified in mold remediation. We used our air scrubbers and zip walls to ensure the mess was not spread through out the house. This equipment isn't cheap but being able to utilize it outside the scope of mold work really does prove to put us ahead of the competition. We are pleased to have been able to help and will be here when and if you have any future projects!

Ryan and Cory arrived on time and were very nice. They got right to work tearing up old laminate. They discovered mold under the laminate padding and advised I get it treated for a small additional amount, which I did. When all was completed, I was VERY pleased!!!! My floors were all flat again!!!! And the crew cleaned up after themselves as if they were never there! All sawdust sucked up by shop vac. I will definitely use these folks again, very impressed! I also want to mention other contractors wanted to rip up all my floors and lay new sub-floors, but David wanted to save me money and recommended we repair. was a great suggestion that saved us thousands!!!!

After a major rainstorm we had standing water about 6 inches above ground level on the NE side of our home. Water seeped through the foundation into the house and we had no idea how to permanently fix it. We started researching Angie's List and discovered David Spence. David is a busy guy and was booked out about a week. He came to our appointment on time, assessed the situation and suggested we start with a heavy duty water barrier. He explained his experiences with Hydro-Stop and how it is applied. He emailed us a link about the product and an estimate as promised. Initially we were only going to fix the area where we knew we had trouble indoors. After reading about Hydro-Stop, we were impressed and decided to extend the area to be coated. David revised the estimate for us. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and it continued to rain for the next 4 weeks. As soon as the area dried enough DSI scheduled Sean & Corey to start work. They dug a trench next to the exterior, did a light sand to clean off the walls and began the process of applying the slurry, membrane and more coats of slurry. They arrived early, worked nonstop and finished the whole job in 2 days. We couldn't believe it. The "feels like" temperature was 99 degrees, they had to cut through roots the entire way and were still smiling. Sean and Corey were very polite, nice young men who encouraged us to inspect their progress. At the end of the first day we were worried it would rain, water would fill the trench and flood inside again. Sean gave us his personal cell phone number and told us to call if anything happened. When they finished on the 2nd day they back-filled the trench and cleaned up the area. Before they left they wanted to be sure we were happy with the job. We are confident the Hydro-Stop will prevent water from seeping through the foundation again! We are very thankful David recommended this solution and had the expertise to do the job.

It was our pleasure to help and these clients needed our help. Foundation leaks are more common than one might think. David and his crews were great. Communication was good and they went beyond our expectations In making my wife and I happy with the out come. Actually finished earlier than expected. David took ownership of a project that a couple of previous bidders had left me not feeling confident about. David was honest with his expectations and we are very happy with the results. No more leaks, dry, finished walls, and beautiful windows. All of his employees were professional and would communicate progress and challenges clearly. And Kristy was always letting us know where we stood on the schedule. Highly recommend these folks.

Thank you to this client for the kind words and great review. It was our pleasure to help. on these older homes with patios closed in for adding additional living space you never know what you will find when you open the walls. This was clearly a case of the previous contractors not using the right building meathods or building products. From the flat deck roof, scupper and parapet roof to the stucco pealing and walls built out of yellow pine with only the paint to protect them from the weather spelled leak from day one. We proved to be able to find the leak and eliminate any further damage in addition to adding new impact windows that look stunning with the new Hardie siding these clients will never have to worry about wood rot again. This client was a joy to work for and the outcome looks like it should have from day one. Providing customer service and quality work is just plain fun working for these folks. Thank you again and we are here should you need a good contractor for any other projects!

It went terribly. After waiting almost 4 months for the final quote...it came in right at a million dollars! Just to give you an idea of some of the quotes, here are a few: 1. Screened in pool enclosure: $ 150,000.00 2. Pool remodel $165,000.00 3. outdoor cabinets $27,000.00 4. Electrical wiring $38,000.00 I could go on and on. As you can imagine we were in shock and after seeing the breakdown of how he got the final number at 1 million. We knew right away that something was really wrong! We spoke to him about it and how we felt about the ridiculous numbers and he then came back 3 weeks later with $300,000 less on the quote, removing one item on the list , putting us at $700,000.00. He blamed the vendors and simply said "That is what they quoted and I just handed the proposal to you, I didn't even look at it because you guys were in a rush to get your quote" Would you want to hire a contractor that doesn't even review the different quotes from their vendors before handing it over to you? I do not believe this is really true at all. I think that he saw that we had money and were desperate to get the remodel going and decided to throw us this insane 1 million dollar quote to see if we would just write a check and agree. He was dead wrong. I showed this quote to 4 other contractors, builders and friends in the industry and ALL of them agreed that the quote was an absolute attempt to take advantage of us. They ALL agreed it was insane and that they have never seen such ridiculous numbers in their lives. EVER. I thought long and hard about even writing a review, but I don't want this to happen to someone else. We found a great contractor and things are finally going well. And just for the record, our pool remodel is costing us $40,000 and the screened in enclosure is $25,000.00 FOR THE EXACT product David Spence quoted us for. That is a difference of $ $250,000.00!!!!! and that is just for the pool and screened-in enclosure. I wish we never contacted David Spence. I trusted the reviews, but I am now VERY skeptical if his reviews are even legit. Six months ago he had 80 reviews, now he has 250 reviews. Is that even possible? This is just speculation, but think about it, how does any construction company have 170 reviews in just 6 months??? You decide. My final thoughts are as follows. I do not recommend this company because they are not trust worthy. Everything I wrote is the truth. Be very careful with trusting reviews only, because it is very easy for people to have fake accounts and reviews. Get referrals and call people. I learned the hard way. I am just so happy we did not use this company.
Description of Work: I contacted David Spence for a remodel. Pool remodel, outdoor pavilion addition, raise a roof in guest house, remove/repair or replace koi pond and a handful of other small things around the house. The house just had a 1 million dollar remodel, so we were just wanting to finish what was not done. It took over 4 months before he even gave us a quote, which is ridiculous and cost us money to pay the monthly expenses of the house because they were "busy" The quote was absolute INSANITY.

This member asked to completely remodel the backside of their house. The scope of work included an addition, raise the ceiling height on a guest house that had already been completely remodeled, raise structural openings to install high end doors that are larger than the current openings, create outdoor living space behind the master suite, create and install a two story screen enclosure to include concrete columns every 10 feet and the list goes on. I spent 4 hours at this home with 14 of my trades. We gathered information from this member and worked with the architect to ensure the scope of work was set to specification. The pool alone came in at 165k to include for fire and water features and installing a spa in the center of the pool accessed by steps above the water line to access. (Not the average pool) This design was stunning and hundreds of man hours spent on it. We also met and discussed the sea wall that was in total disrepair. We presented the proposal and with the amount of work and trades involved it did take some time. The member said we needed to get the price down to 700k and explained he was in a hurry. We presented the revised proposal within a couple of weeks. We followed up with several emails and phone calls to be ignored. I knew there was something wrong but apples to apples was not considered. We completed a 500k project 5 doors down from this particular home and are very familiar with what the HOA demands including limited hours to work. Our price was sound and I stand by my estimate. The member asked for top of the line materials and specs and that is what we allowed for. This home has fixtures in it that cost more than most homes so cheap was not an option. I know there are cheaper contractors out there but to ensure accuracy I did a price comparison between trades and found our prices to be in line. Communication here was almost impossible and I really don't know what this client wanted at the end of the day. We priced what he wanted but the budget didn't match the request. There are always different ways of achieving a goal and with better communication I feel we could have helped. We did our best for such a large project and didn't get it after all of our hard work. I am sorry this member feels this way but do wish them the best with their beautiful home. It was our desire to help but from this review it is probably best we didn't proceed. I would like to thank this member for pointing out our reviews! We have over 6 state licenses one of them being electrical. We have been making people happy for years and will continue to do so. I would like to point out one last thing. This was a FREE estimate! All the time my trades, office staff and I spent on this project we didn't make a cent. I really enjoy being a good contractor with a great reputation but the down side is getting poor reviews from someone that just took your free estimate. Please if your reading this review and you're thinking I just want the cheapest contractor out there to build something we are not going to be a good fit. I have a very skilled staff in the office and in the field. Myself and my team do our very best to ensure that anyone we are doing work for is happy as we take pride in our work and services. I'm in business for those clients that trust the job is being done right. If a challenge presents itself we will handle it with the honor and dignity you would expect a company like ours to do. We are not a large contractor but we certainly aren't working out of the back of a truck either. I offered for this client to meet his neighbors that we completed an addition for but it was dismissed as not important. With the many reviews I have accumulated on Angie's List, I typically offer prospective clients to speak with members I've done work for in their neighborhoods. I will continue this practice as it's always good to hear about their experience throughout the remodeling process. We take a number of precautions to ensure that providers can't manipulate their ratings on the List. Some of our safeguards include: No biased reviews Businesses are not allowed to rate themselves and all members must confirm that they are not affiliated with the company when leaving feedback. No anonymous comments To ensure the integrity of recommendations, we do not allow anonymous reviews. Members provide their contact information when joining so we always know who is submitting feedback. Learn more! Feedback verification A combination of proprietary technology and good old-fashioned investigative techniques are used to root out potential conflicts of interest, cases of fraud, and attempts to "stuff the ballot box" with positive comments. We check all feedback before posting it and remove any fraudulent comments. Any company engaging in fraudulent behavior is excluded from category searches and a notice is placed on their profile. Additionally, providers can't remove their names from the List, so companies can't hide poor ratings or fraud notices. The strong possibility of public shaming is often enough to convince companies not to try. Annual audits Since 2007, we've turned to BPA Worldwide, an international auditing firm, to help ensure the reliability of our service. This annual audit provides an independent check on our own internal accountability procedures. After conducting recent fieldwork and analysis, BPA auditors found that Angie's List "follows a consistent, documented set of processes to present fairly, in all material respects, the ratings and input of the site's members." I wish him the nothing but the absolute best with his contracting endeavors.

We noticed some soft drywall in the walls of my dad's house. We called DSI and one other contractor to give an estimate not knowing at the time the damage was from termites and not old water damage. DSI (and the other contractor) took a look and their estimates were within $2000. The other contractor suggested we could "skip some of the permits" which sent up red flags for us. We chose to work with DSI and are so glad we did! Once the work started and the damaged material was removed, we were surprised to see how much damage the termites had done. Eventually, about 30 feet of wall was removed and a window taken out (to be replaced when the walls were rebuilt). The rebuilding was a bit slower because we had to wait for the various inspections to take place before the next phase of construction could take place. It took about 3 weeks (excluding weekends) to get it all completed. Everything was taken care of from permits to final clean up. Phone calls and questions were answered in a reasonable amount of time.

DSI required I have a leak specialist come out (of their recommendation at a cost to me of $250) and then DSI did not arrive as scheduled for estimate. DSI scheduled 2 weeks out to estimate the work as they were busy and wanted to ensure the leak specialist first provide them a report. DSI then called the day before to ensue I would be there at noon as scheduled, which I confirmed. DSI showed up at 11 and had the guard call me as they were early. When I was not there I told the guard I was on the road as I had to drive in town to meet them since not living at the residence (which DSI had been told would be the situation). DSI insisted I reschedule with them as they would not honor their arranged noon appointment. Needless to say I was disgusted with their service and lack of professionalism and expressed that to them in heated words.

We handled this call with the professionalism as we do with every call. This member was not happy with the option to reschedule and cursed my office manager to the point of tears. When my office manager called to inform me of how she was treated we decided we would not be the right contractor for her. Our office schedules our appointments with a window of time to arrive. In this case if we would have been back had the verbal attack not occurred. We wish this member the best.

I did not hire DSI. This reference was provided because it was solicited by Angie's List.
Description of Work: I did not hire DSI. I received estimates from 3 providers. DSI was very high. I believe they do a good job. They are knowledgeable. I hired the same contractor for granite, under mount sinks, etc. in the kitchen that DSI would have used and saved a bunch going directly to them. I guess it depends on how much time you want to spend getting estimates, talking to contractors, etc. I'm retired so I have the time.

Some people want a General Contractor and will go as far to call us out to get our input with the intent of never hiring them/us.We try to do our best in vetting our clients to ensure a good fit but in this case we turned the estimate around in less than 24 hours. We really did try to help but cheap is not how we do things. We often say that we are not the cheapest call you will make but if you hire us we will be the last call you make. We pride ourselves on our customer service and quality.I am happy my suppliers and vendors helped this client achieve the goal I just wish they would have been up front and saved us the time. If your looking for a good contractor to deliver quality work and customer service like no other then we are most likely a good fit. If your looking for the cheapest we are most likely not going to be a good fit. I wish this member the best in retirement and with any future projects.

I received a quote of $1,650.00 to install about 340 sq ft of 6"x 1" tongue and grove ceiling planks. So, I wanted to ask around to see if could get a better rate. I contacted DSI and they responded back with a quote of $5,320.00.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate of cost to install tongue and groove wood ceiling planks.

We are not a one size fits all company nor are we the cheapest. If your looking for a handy man or the cheapest guy in town we are not going to be a good fit. With 6 state licenses we provide services from the footer to the roof. We have an office staff answering calls five days a week to ensure you call is taken by a real person who will do their best to get you the answers your looking for. We answered the call right away and communicated effectively to ensure we understood the scope of work. We calculated the estimate based on the conversation and pictures provided in less than one day. We pride ourselves on customer service and quality. I wish this client the best with this project.

DSI Construction completely remolded our Kitchen with new cabinets and granite tops. We also had new lighting installed in the ceiling and under counters. They also removed a wooden bar that extended from the kitchen window to the outside by the pool, and replaced it with a granite top. The job was started on time and finished faster than we had even hoped for. The workers were very professional, and answered any question s we had during the job. We had 5 quotes for the remodeling. DSI was fair, competitive and reasonable. They weren't the lowest, but we felt they offered more for the money than the others. . We would recommend, and will utilize DSI Construction for any future projects that we might have.

Matt was right on time, quick to do the work, knowledgeable, and pleasant. I didn't want him to waste his valuable time but he insisted on cleaning up and putting the ladder back in my garage.

The service was great. They came out about ten days after I paid for the service. They did not charge extra, I paid $99 and I had them come out after because I had some more work to be done. I would recommend them to anybody. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They did two hours of electric labor. They put in a candle light and put in an electrical switch from one light to another.

DSI went above and beyond our expectations! We purchased the $99 special for 2 hours of work 7 weeks ago. Christy promptly called us to schedule an appt. Matt came out checked the faulty light and remote control on the bedroom ceiling fan. Matt believed the issue was a faulty part and took it upon himself to contact the fan manufacturer on our behalf. He told the manufacturer the exact part that needed to be replaced. After a couple weeks, Matt called us to see if we'd received the replacement part -- we hadn't. He took it upon himself to, again, contact the manufacturer. A couple weeks later, still no replacement part. He followed up again with the manufacturer. We finally received the replacement part. Matt and Christy scheduled a time for Matt to come back out and fix the bedroom ceiling fan light. Since he did not expect that all of his effort would take up the full 2 hours, he asked us -- in advance -- to think about some other electrical tasks that we would want him to do. That's why he also ended up installing a wall switch for our outdoor ceiling fan and fixing an issue with our security lighting. We also had him check our landscape lighting that has never worked (we've lived in the house less than a year). The problem is the light fixtures -- which is what we believed to be the case before we had him check it. He informed us what it would take to replace the lights -- we should purchase the new light fixtures we want, and contact Christy to schedule Matt to do the install. Soon as we decide which lights we want as replacement fixtures, we'll be contacting DSI to do the work. Highly recommend contracting DSI!
