This was our Big Deal! It is a really great value and it was our pleasure to upgrade the electric service to the house. The savings realized was over $500 in this case. This client will sleep easy knowing the house is properly protected and we take pride in the thanks we received for a job well done.

Description of Work: I had selected DSI to give me a quote on a bathroom remodel because the company received rave reviews from previous clients. We schedule a date when David was to arrive to give me an estimate. Several days later I was told that they do not service my area. I gave the company a "D" for being disingenuous. They say they service Hillsborough County but perhaps that depends on who you talk to and when.

Description of Work: I actually set up a couple of meetings and I had to cancel due to my inconsistent work schedule. I will be contacting them for my house renovation once my work schedule settles down. They were very friendly and communicative on the phone and I look forward to getting a quote from them in the future.

Description of Work: David came by and gave me an estimate on the cost to have my home repaired from last years storm. Everything that he did from arriving at the appointed time to the cost were outstanding. He was very thorough with his walk thru and polite to both my wife and I. I would use him for any work done on my home and feel very confident that it will be "TOP NOTCH WORK".

Stucco is a common problem here in Florida. Maintaining your home with a good coat of paint can save you tens of thousands of dollars. I was sorry to see that such a beautiful new home was having such problems but we successfully dealt with them. We take these projects seriously. We start with the stucco and then identify any structural damage to move onto the re-construction. Once we are though and painted the results are priceless! It was our pleasure to put a smile back on this family's faces to enjoy their big new beautiful home.

Not happy with them.
Description of Work: Provider was sent an inspection report for the property two weeks prior to the meeting. This was for a $200,000 remodel job. David Spence showed up with no idea about the inspection report even though his assistant Christine said he had thoroughly reviewed it. He was about 15 minutes late to the meeting. Met with him and various subcontractors for him on a different date. I was waiting for the estimate. Called today to see what was taking so long and was told that they said they had declined the bid.

Response from David Spence Inc.
I was very hopeful upon meeting with this client. Reviewing the inspection report gave me an understanding of the house needs. Upon spending three hours at the house with this client, it was very hard to get the client to explain what he wanted from me. This house was within the historical district, and strict guidelines are applied to such projects. We couldn’t complete the projects on such a tight budget. The house is over 6000 sq. ft. with a leaking or in some cases nonexistent roof and windows supplemented with openings large enough to put your arm through. When the owner met with my trades all four of them gave me consistent feedback. i.e. The client was not impressed with me and didn’t know why he was paying a contractor to meet with the trades. This was confusing to me as the client was not paying me. He agreed to meet with my trades to open the house. That was really the deciding factor to decline the project. I can’t make my trades work for someone they don’t want to work for. If I don’t feel that I can be successful at making a client happy I won’t take the job. After meeting with this home owner, I called and had to leave a voice mail letting the owner know we would not be providing him with an estimate and I was declining the project and wished him well. I had not heard back from him until several weeks later when he called to ask for the estimate. My office explained that I had left the message. Once I learned of his call into my office I called again and was put through to his voice mail. I went into detail as to why I was declining the project and again wished him well. He called back and said he didn’t get that message either.

Very good job.
Description of Work: We contracted David and his team to remodel our house which was to 1) add a new window on the 2nd floor and 2) remove all exterior wood frame and apply stucco to the whole house. We went with David mostly because of his recognition and rating on Angie list instead of the price; and we were glad that we picked them. The price was not that much higher than other quotes but team lead Tony and his people did an excellent job. There was an extra $960 change order because they had to ripped off an extra layer of frame, but they explained to us in detail and why not keeping the extra layer. Tony and the team on site carefully prepped and measured everything and also follow up on our questions/concerns and provide us with good suggestions. When they were ready to put the window up on the 2nd floor (and because we picked the impact glass, it was heavy so they had to come inside), they put cloths on the floor to avoid dirt and dusts. Everyone from the team acted professionally and took care of the stuffs after they finished the job. And when we told them couple problem incurred due to the project, they come fixed right away. David subcontracted the stucco to another team and they also did a good job with the stucco. A few cracks showed up a week after the stucco work was completed but the subcontractor quickly returned and got them repaired. Overall, it was a very nice experience and we love the end results. We will definitely use David and his team again on more upcoming projects.

This 1970s home had wood paneling on the second floor. We removed the paneling and installed plywood and stucco to bring the home up to date. We also installed a window in a bedroom upstairs that didn't have a window before. We cut the wall open and relocated the electric. We installed a header and upgraded the wall with the proper hurricane fasteners per code. We permitted this project as we had altered the envelope of the home. We repaired the drywall inside and painted the wall to create a window that looked like it has been there from the beginning. The exterior now looks like the home was built last year!

Description of Work: I called DSI for a simple demolition of 1 wall. I was shopping around and the quotes were $600-$900. DSI sent me an estimate of $12,000!!! Insulting and ridiculous. Tried calling David so I can explain to him what I needed because there had to be a mistake. Never returned my call after I spoke with his assistant three times. She was very friendly but it was as if David didn't want the work. Service and pricing are not the best

Response from David Spence Inc.
I explained to the customer that the project needed to be permitted. He does not agree. Customer wants to hire someone to do some work that is NOT to code and does not follow my company format. My company format includes full service with labor, materials and permitting all included. We explained to him that if he had a price for this project of $600 there was some mistake. The garage door alone is over $1000. Then there is the framing, drywall, concrete, electric, permitting, inspections, stucco, garage door and texture. I find it sad that a person would take the time to write a negative review based off of price. When you call or email to tell me you have a price from other companies for the job that is much cheaper and feel that there is a mistake on my part only to find that you as the owner do not want to do the project to code. My price is my price. If you like another company’s price and you feel that they will do a great job for you and service you well then by all means please hire them. I am in business to take care of people to my best ability and try to ensure a good fit. I have five state licenses and will not jeopardize them by not following the law or the code. I do wish Mr Diesel the best in this and future endeavors.

This client was over seas and we communicated all by email and occasionally by phone. He called me of course as he was in a war zone on base. This complete wall to wall remodel was my pleasure to help him with this dream. Being from the military he wanted the best, strongest and I cant blame him. I am so happy to have had the honor to help him with this project. I picked him up at the airport at 2 A>M as his flight was delayed. This was a year long project and if he was going to see it for the first time there was not any way that was going to happen without me! I picked him up at the airport and upon him walking through the door for the first time the smiles was priceless. Seeing pictures is great but nothing beats seeing with your own eyes being able to see, feel, touch and smell your new home. Maple cabinets, solid surface countertops, Pella windows, Impact doors, Solid corian tub surround, bamboo flooring, new electric everywhere. It was a lot to take in at 3 A.M. by the time we got to the house but what a joy for me! He was on cloud nine and it was a joy for me to witness. This is a guy putting his own life in harms way for me to be free!!!! Now he is smiling from ear to ear looking at our hard work and his new home. My biggest honor to date by far!!!!

Description of Work: I spoke with the owner David Spence and though we didn't do any business this time around, David was a phenomenal resource. He took about 20 minutes of his time to give me helpful information regarding the work I needed done as well as referred me to competent organizations that could do the work. In short, David performed community service above and beyond what was expected, and his knowlege and insight into the repair and remodel industry was invaluable. David is that rare individual that takes the time to understand a potential customer's needs, and even if he is unable to satisfy the need personally, he assists in any way possible. I wouldn't hesitate to call David back to ask questions and I look forward to doing business with his company in the future.

Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" for a custom bathroom remodeling design and consultation. A " $500 value for $50. " The salesman for DSI came to the house and we thoroughly discussed the changes we wanted to the guest bathroom. He took numerous measurements. We received the bid and floorplan "drawings" . The bid was for replacement of the shower and bath combination with another combination along with other changes. We had clearly stated that we wanted the combination replaced with a shower stall. On 8/4/11 I spoke with David Spence and was informed there had been a miscommunication between the salesman and David. A revised estimate and drawing was sent to me. The quality of the floorplan drawing that was sent to me was my major concern. Both the original and the revised were amateurish and incorrect. Copies were sent to Angie's List. They were simple single line drawings, with freehand additions and no dimensions, Even on the revised floorplan the interior entry door to the bathroom was shown on the wrong wall. Based on this first impression of the quality of work, there was no way that I was about to enter into a $17,000 remodeling contract with this company. Neither was I interested in further discussions and promises. I was also dissappointed with Angie's List and the "Big Deal". The product I received was not worth $50, let alone $500.

I first sent Mike (my sales rep.) to meet with the member. Mike explained that it was a larger job. Mike also explained that they wanted more than the 20/20 drawings for the cabinets. I put a very basic package together to simply define a budget. I spoke with the member after I submitted my proposal via email. The member and I did speak and he explained his dissatisfaction with the drawings. I explained that I was only trying to establish a budget with the scope of work. I explained that I would like to meet with him in person as some of the details like the shower vs. tub had been mixed up. Once we come up with a defined scope and budget I would have my architect draw the plans for him. The last I heard from the member is that he was going out of town and would contact me so that we could meet. I was shocked to see this report as I was still awaiting his call. Mike and I have reached out to the member without even a return phone call. It makes it hard to fulfill ones expectations when communication is shut down. It is a shame that the member did not call me back as promised to meet in person. I am sure we could have exceeded his expectations.

Description of Work: BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: Mr. Spence and his folks did very good work, in a timely and professional manner. It was a pleasure doing business with them, and I'm currently planing to have him do another couple of significant projects. A roof leak resulted in water running down inside the front wall of our dining room. Apparently, this had been going on for awhile before we discovered it. The walls were completely saturated (drapery screws were rusted where the were inside the walls) and the carpet pas was moldy, as were the tack boards along the wall. We had the roof repaired and, a couple of weeks later, had Mr. Spence out to give us an estimate and then to do the work. Discovering that the walls were still a little damp, he checked out the roof repairs and confirmed that they were good. He located a leak around the second story window above the damaged area and fixed that. He and his folks then proceeded to remove the carpet and pad, take out the entire front wall and portions of a side wall in the dining room and take out part of the wall in the adjacent laundry room. After they put in the new walls and painted them, the carpet layer installed in a new carpet mat and reinstalled the carpet. Throughout all of this, they sealed off the room and just worked away--no inconvenience at all having them there. While there, his folks did a lot of additional work, not in the contract, without charge. They checked all of the windows in our two-story house and re-caulked them. The carpet layer went through and took care of some tack board problems and wrinkles and slack in carpet elsewhere in the house. A final note: I don't really know whether his price is good, bad, or indifferent. I went out for three bids, all from folks who were highly rated on Angie's List. One expressed interest, but never showed up; one gave me an estimate for tearing out the wall and carpet, but not for replacing them. When I discussed that with him, I concluded that he was a moron and discontinued the effort. Mr. Spence came out, did a thorough examination, explained what he thought needed to be done, and gave me an estimate. I liked him and did business with him. I'm glad that I did.

GREAT!
Description of Work: My 94 and 90 year old parents live with us in Seffner Fl. After my father fell he could no longer get into their bathroom shower. Dave Spence remodeled the bathroom shower, and now it is easy for my parents to get in and out. He also installed the safety bars for them to hold on to, and even bought them a hand shower head that they love. Then he fixed the new chair wheels that were falling off the chair legs of our breakfast table. I asked him if he would fix the head board that was lopsided in the guest bedroom and he also fixed a lamp that was broken ," I'm thinking is there anything that he can't fix". Because my parents need supervision, I asked Dave if he could install nanny cameras so that I could monitor the CNA'S that I had hired to watch over my parents. He installed a great system with cameras that are concealed and a microphone so I can hear what they are saying too. I feel at peace now that I know we can even go on vacation, take our lap top with us, and I can make sure that my parents are treated well while my husband and I are away. That's not all, one day I called Mr. spence because we were having problems with our roof and he came right out to repair it. While he was at my home I asked him if he could look at my TV. I have a wall mounted TV with a built in DVD player. I somehow jamed the dvds and we could not use the TV at all. Mr. Spence took out a tool and was able to pull out 2 dvd's and 1 cd that I had jamed into the slot that was only made for one. He saved us a lot aggravation and money because we did not have a warranty on the TV, we would have had to take it off the wall, and take it back to where we purchased it. While he was there I asked him if he could install an alarm battery for me that I had purchased and didn't know how to hook up, without hesitation, he took out another tool and installed that for me. My husband and I have the utmost respect for Dave Spence and we want to highly recommend him. He is knowledgeable, dependable, as well as on time and his attention to detail and perfection is one of the many qualities that we admire about him. It is nice to know that if I need to replace or repair anything in our home, all I have to do is call one person, Dave Spence. My husband and I have already talked about having him build our next home. I know with Dave Spence it will be built properly and most effeciently.

ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED IN THE TIME FRAME I WANTED AND ALL MATERIALS WERE FIRST CLASS. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAD ALL THE FLOORS DONE ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, A/C AND WINDOWS DONE BY DSI. THE HOUSE IS IN FIRST CLASS SHAPE AND I'M PROUD TO OWN THIS HOUSE !! I'M ALSO LUCKY THAT I WAS REFEREED TO DSI. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE DOING ANY WORK ON THERE HOME !! Stationed in Afghanistan all of our communication was done via email or the occasional phone call. We remodeled the entire house wall to wall, floor to ceiling. This client wanted the best and is now ready for retirement and enjoy his new home on the water. The best part of this project was after several months of remodeling the home was picking him up at the airport to see his new home for the first time. Flight delayed was now not going to be in Tampa until 2 A.M. I didn't care. If he was going to see the new house it was going to be with me! At around 3 A.M. we arrived and the smile on his face and the occasional giggle was all worth it! This is why I do what I do! Building dreams with passion!! What a joy and pleasure to be a part of his dream and see it through to reality.
