Description of Work: The knob on our washing machine didn't work. When the repair man came, he said that the entire controls ("brains") of the machine needed to be replaced. He gave a price of $185, then when the 15% discount was mentioned by my husband, he came back with a higher price of over $200. We decided not to do the repair because it didn't make sense that the "brains" needed to be replaced when it was only the knob that didn't turn. We called GE and they sent a technician, who replaced the knob for $9 parts plus $79 for labor. When my husband called the Factory Appliance office, and told the woman the story, she was very argumentative on the phone and gave no satisfaction. I would not use this company again. But I highly recommend GE. Their technician was very professional and courteous. And more importantly, honest.

The technician showed up outside of the time window I was given, and did not call first. He never introduced himself. Upon entering the house and going to the washing machine, I showed him a part that came out and told him what I felt the most likely problem was. He made a big deal about how that rarely happens and made it seem like it would be a very expensive job. He talked down to me, making me feel very uncomfortable, treating me like a woman who knew nothing. When my father entered to speak with him, his demeanor changed somewhat and he answered questions I had asked him in the complete opposite way when answering them for my father. When we asked him his estimate for how long the repair would take/ how long it would take the ordered part to arrive, he refused to give any kind of answer. It seems to me that wanting to know when you will be able to use your washing machine again is a valid concern and valid question. He then very rudely told my father, "Well why don't you order the part yourself and put it in yourself." The whole time, he barely looked at the washing machine to see if what I had described was actually the problem. He then said he was going out to his truck and would be right back...He got in the truck and drove away without another word! When I called the office to find out what was going on, the woman (apparently his wife) proceeded to hang up on me! At first, I thought my cell phone just cut off, so I called back. It was clear that my call was then being sent to voice mail the three subsequent times I tried to call. I then called using my father's phone, and she picked up. I asked what was going on and why the service technician had left my house. She said very rudely that "he left because he did not want to do business with you or your husband!" I tried to ask why since we were not rude to him at all, and she repeated that he did not want to do business with us. I tried to ask why he did not tell me that before he left, or at least why she did not simply tell me that the first time I called her, and she hung up on me again! Upon calling another company so see about having the repair done, I happened to mention that I merely had a bad experience with another repair company. The woman asked me if it was Factory Aplliance Service Team and an older heavyset guy. She was absolutely correct and all I had to do was say I had a bad experience. She informed me that they have many clients who have complained about that company in many ways. I would absolutely never use this company again. Please save yourself a headache and use a different company.
