The man that came insulted me after I was shell shocked at the price he gave me 475 dollors and then told me to do it myself if it was so easy! And then charged me 79 bucks for looking at it. I had another plumber come in ( Wellworth plumbing) and a very nice guy and did the whole job for 103.50. Well worth it.
Description of Work: I need a sink hooked up which the sink was all ready installed and I already had all the parts except for one elbow and a 8 inch piece of 2 inch occur. And I needed two flaps installed.

I called Ben Franklin Plumbing for help based on their reviews. The lady who answered the phone suggested I call PSL Utility Department FIRST, then SECOND have them come out for a reasonable service charge if the city says the blockage is my responsibility. As it turns out, the grinder system circuit breaker needed resetting, and all was fine. The city did not charge me. Ben Franklin Plumbing's honesty is very impressive. I cannot comment on the skill of their field staff, but the honesty of the lady who answered the phone cannot be questioned. Next time I need plumbing work, I will be calling Ben Franklin Plumbing FIRST. Highly recommended.

Was surprised, this morning, when the City Water Meter Reader knocked on my door and advised me that we had a leak in our connection to the meter. He showed me the water that was streaming from the leak and recommended that I contact a plumber right away to get the problem resolved. I called Ben Franklin, and the Operator was extremely courteous and professional, and explained that the company charges $79.00 for a service call, and rather than charging an hourly rate, has an established set fee scale for repairs once the Technician determines the problem. She advised that they could have a Technician on scene in approximately three hours. I received a call a few minutes later, from the Dispatcher, advising me that a Technician was free sooner than expected and would be at my home within a half hour if that would work for me, which I was happy to hear as I wanted the problem resolved as soon as possible. She then offered, for safety purposes, to e-mail a photo of the Technician, so I would recognize him when he arrived. The Technician, John, was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and professional. He explained that he believed that the leak was right at the connection point to the meter, and would have to dig out the surrounding area in order to access the leak (and showed me the set fee scale for that part of the job), and explained that he would then have to replace the connector (and showed me the set fee scale for that part of the job). He explained that he would have to shut off the water to the house in order to repair the leak. After receiving my approval for the cost ($497.00), he went right to work and completed the repair within two hours. the cost was admittedly probably a bit more expensive than some other local plumbers may have charged, but my husband and I were so happy with the courteous and professional manner, and feel confident that the repairs were done correctly, that it was worth paying a little more.

MY KITCHEN WASTE WAS CLOGGED THAT'S ALL. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PLUMBING CAME OVER FOR A SERVICE CALL AND INSTEAD OF SNAKING THE DRAIN THE TECH TRIED TO SIGN ME UP FOR A CONTRACT AND TRIED TO SELL ME AN OVER PRICED DISPOSAL. HE NEVER ATTEMPTED TO UNCLOG THE WASTE. HE PRESENTED ME WITH A $700 BILL. I ASKED TO LEAVE RIGHT AWAY. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. HOLD ONTO WALLET IF YOU EVER CALL BENJAMIN FRANKLIN.

Called Ben Franklin Plumbing. Was told that plumber would contact me withing 30 minutes which he did. He explained what might be causing the problem. He told me that he would arrive withing the hour which he did. He went into great detail on what the cause of the problem was. He then gave us an up front price which was excellent. He then proceeded to use is equipment to clean the drains from our house to the street. This fixed the problem immediately. He then cam into the house and examined the toilets, giving us tips on what we could do to prevent this from happening again. I am very satisfied and will use them in the future.

John arrived as scheduled, surveyed the problem, and explained what needed to be done. He was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Even with inclement weather, John's patience and knowledge enabled him to quickly complete the repairs. My drip problems were solved! No more water being wasted and increasing my water bill!!! John walked me out to show what he did and explained the difference between the old and new valves. As a long time customer (back when they were Aqua Dimensions Plumbing Services), I have come to depend on their professionalism, trustworthiness, and friendly, personal experience. I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbers.

The repairman was on time and professional. Once the level of work was determined he quickly made the repairs. Price was the only issue.
Description of Work: Had a bad water heater. The price quoted was over $1500 for replacement so I told the repairman to just replace the shut off valve so we could turn the water back on. He quoted a price of $208 for the service call and to replace the valve. He was here a total of 45 minutes, most of which time was spent estimating a new water heater. The replacement of the valve took about 15 minutes. Repairman was on time, professional, and very knowledgeable. The issue was the price, replacing a $10 part for $208 (after a coupon discount of $50) was excessive. I had the water heater replaced by others for less than half of the quoted price from Benjamin Franklin.

This is in response to the review that was posted on Angie’s list: We would like to thank you for taking the time to the grade our services and we are happy that all of the most important items graded were given an “A” but we are truly sorry that we failed when it came to demonstrating the value. We strive to provide 100% client satisfaction as that is our #1 priority. We always quote the prices before we do the work which requires the client to authorize the work prior to us starting the job. We have found it very difficult to respond to online reviews when we have not been given the opportunity to compare the company or the work that is being quoted to confirm we comparing apples to apples. We did provide a quote with three different water heater options. Our lifetime warranty water heater option and our 10 year warranty water heater option were both over the $1500.00 that you mentioned in your review. The third option included a water heater with a 6 year warranty on the parts, 6 year warranty on the tank from leaking and an “unmatched 6 year labor warranty”. We included a discounted option for an add-on of the thermal expansion tank, an emergency shut off valve and all necessary permit fees and administration cost to apply for the permit. Also included was priority mailing of the permit to your home and handling the process needed to complete the building department’s inspection along with a one year club membership that included a complete preventative home inspection. When comparing our pricing to others we would ask that you answer the following questions. Did the other company respond or even answer their phone on Saturday as we did? Is the other company licensed and insured? Did they include a 6 year labor warranty to match the manufactures tank and parts warranty? Did your installation include a thermal expansion tank that is recommended by the manufacture when you’re on a closed system? Did they apply for a permit, the inspection pass and was those cost included when making your comparison? Please feel free to contact our office and request to speak with me if you have additional concerns or questions. Thank you, Matt Black General Manager

[member name removed] - During our vist you had stated that you were quoted $1069 for a 10 yr warranty water heater installed. You thought the labor warranty was a 1 year warranty. The 10 year warranty water heater that we quoted had a 10 year warranty on the tank and parts and we matched that warranty with a 10 year labor warranty. If anything would have went wrong with our heater in the next 10 years all repairs would have been free 365 days a year 24 hours a day. I hope the other company offers the same level of service for there 1 year labor warranty. Lets use an example that in year five the elements were to burn out. You call the company who installed the heater for you and they typically will tell you that that you will have to pay the labor charges for the repair and you will need to call the manufacture to get the part under warranty. You could go without hot water for a couple of days waiting on the parts to arrive and when they do you will pay the labor charges for the installation. Since we offer the 10 year labor warranty, we want your water heater to last we include 10 annual tune ups at no additional charge. That means that every year for the next 10 years that we would arrive at your house at no charge and complete the manufactures recommended maintenance. That would have included draining and flushing the tank, testing the pressure relief valve, checking the air pressure in the thermal expansion tank along with an electrical test to make sure that your heater continues to run efficiently. So for an additional $300's - $30 a year for the next ten years you could have had a manufactures recommeneded annual tune up yearly, a 10 year labor warranty and true 24 hour emergency service for the next 3650 days. So to compare the heater that we offered to your current heater you are responsible for the last 9 years of the labor warranty if you were to have a problem and also responsible for the cost for the recommended water heater maintenance. We were given an "A" rating on everything but price but is seems that for an additonal $30 a year that included the additional warranty and maintenance you would have received with our company appears to be more than fair. I would urge you to call the company that installed your water heater or any other company and ask them for a quote to complete a water heater maintenance. I would be very surprised if it would be $30.00 or less. We would hope that you would reconsider your review of our company since we take great pride in providing 100% client satisfaction. Thank you, Matt Black General Manager Benjamin Franklin Plumbing

Plumber called and arrived as planned and gave an estimate. The estimate is not free, it costs a minimum of $58 just to have someone come out whether you use them or not. Due to the holiday weekend coming we felt there was no choice but to use them even though the estimate was outrageous. They use a per job pay system which includes parts and labor. We had a new sink installed and switched the garbage disposal from one side to the other so the existing drains were misaligned. The new strainers were already installed, only needed the two drains set up plus the new under sink vent. The plumber had to spend a few minutes cutting and chipping out the existing pipes. The total job took him about an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours to complete plus a few parts, total bill was over $570.00. The job was done well and the plumber was professional. The task was a reasonably simple-straight forward job for any plumber. The real issue is the price, totally unreasonable and outrageous for such a small, simple task. I agreed to the price so that's on me but I would never use this company again simply because their pricing system is beyond reasonable, it's outrageous. I still can't believe I paid that amount of money. Never again with Ben Franklin, I plan to research and find a local plumber that has both a good reputation and fair pricing. I suggest you do the same so your not stuck in my situation.

Mr. (member name removed), We are sorry that our service pricing did not meet your expectations. I wish you would have shared your concerns with us directly as we do have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I was surprised to find a negative review since Mario had completed a follow up call on 5/28/2013 - 4 days after your work was completed. He called to make sure everything was working properly and that you were satisfied with the completed job. Mario had notated in your records that he had spoken with you and that you were 100% satisfied. We cannot resolve any issues if we are not made aware of them. We do charge by the job and not by the hour. We always quote the price upfront and receive written authorization to start the work. Our pricing structure is based on 25 plus years of experience and is an average of what the job should take. When the job takes a substantial amount of time longer than expected we never have anyone ask us to let them pay more because we did not quote enough money (and we do not change our price) but if a job goes a little better than expected then we are accused of overcharging. Your job had 30 minutes travel and 2.25 hours of on-site time. A total of 2.75 hours. You were quote the $59 service call, $477.00 to chip out the drain fitting and provide and install all of the new piping required to relocate the drains. That total was $536.00. You also had received a 2 year warranty on labor and material which is minimum 1 year longer than any other company in our service area. You were given an option to purchase and join our club membership program for $115. That membership entitles you to have a complete home inspection with a manufactures recommended water service that includes draining and flushing your water heater tank, testing the temperature and pressure safety relief valve, test the air pressure on the thermal expansion tank if one exist and tests all the electrical or gas components to make sure the heater is working at its optimal performance. It also entitled you to a 15% discount on that repair plus any other repairs for the next 12 months. You had chosen to sign up for this membership and it took you total investment to $570.60. You paid an additional $34.60 over the repair cost to have the benefits of this membership. We use to charge by the hour and when you have some people that work faster than the others you could have the exact same job done by to different people and the cost would be different. We don't feel that a home owner should be penalized for having the slower plumber sent to their home. I would be more than happy to discuss this matter and resolve your issue to a 100% satisfaction if you would like to contact me. Matt Black General Manager Benjamin Franklin Plumbing

The service went well. They came out in the afternoon, gave me an exact estimate. Since the job would require about 8 hours, he came out the following day. I had cleaned out under the sinks to provide access. He cleaned up after himself completely. Very professional job. While I felt the price was a bit high (and the plumber told me it was more than some of their competitor's), they guaranteed their work. But very satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Installed kitchen, bathroom sink and shower faucets (I purchased the faucets at Lowe's for an additional $450). They removed old faucets, replaced all hot and cold shut-off valves (under two sinks and behind shower wall), all needed soldering on copper piping. Also included a $115 yearly service contract/inspection to get a 15% discount on the service (I came out ahead on this, given the total cost).

Plumbing work to include -- replacing of two toilets to handicapped fixtures replace shower fixture repair hot water heater (replace elements) replaced most of household shut off valves replaced hose fixture/bibs replaced washer fill unit installed whole house water filter and maintenance replaced exterior well pump in house pipe clean out when septic filled Whole house check when City of PSL claimed I used 47,000 gallons of water in ONE MONTH; and to this day - city can not give explanation as there was NO LEAKS with any of my fixtures and/or pipes. **BTW, there was one time when they were late -- and yes, they PAID me for MY TIME !!!! Any time I have an issue -- they are here SAME DAY and I have, yet, had to pay for an emergency call as they have walked us through any situation to stop an emergency from getting worse. And that is to include working with me on the whole house leak check.
Description of Work: Please note that not all of that money has gone out in one time but over the years... and it is an estimate of all costs; I could go through all the paper work for exact figures but I believe you get the idea... I have a plumbing maintenance agreement with them and I have been happy with their services from the start. They have replaced, repaired, and installed fixtures through out the house; to even include a septic backup and a mini house flood from a faulty washer. If they needed other contractors - they made recommendations or called them for assistance.

I was given a free estimate a couple weeks before the job was done. They had to pull a permit from the city to do the job. When the permit was approved they called to set up an installation date. They came the day and time they said they would. It only took one day to install the system. They did excellent. Even the city inspector said what a nicely done job. Nice bends on the pipe, clean solder joints. It all looks real good. They cleaned up everything and took the trash with them. I could not have ask for more. Very professional looking , talking , and working. I highly recommend them. A little pricey but worth every penny.
Description of Work: They installed a solar hot water system I purchased two months ago. Their labor charges are a little high. The quality of the work done is excellent. I was more then happy with their work. Very neat job start to finish. They cleaned up everything, no trash left.

Called them out to evaluate a water heater leak. Tom was our service man. He was very punctual, professional and efficient. He discussed the problem, showed me where it was. We discussed the options. Then I chose which option best suited me. There was never any kind of pressure sale. He also educated me about the workings and maintenance of my water heater. He proceeded to start the repair and kept me updated with the progress. He even finished before he anticipated and clean up the work area. I was very impressed with the customer service I received. I wholeheartedly recommend this company and their representative Tom.

My overall experience with them was good. I have used them before on much larger jobs in the front yard when they had to dig up the whole water main out for me. They were clean. They picked up after themselves and did not leave a mess. They were very expensive but it seemed like their workers were much above. They were more professional and they seemed more intelligent. They were a little bit more competent than the usual workers even though they cost a little bit more.

Good experience overall. Tech arrived the day we called even though we chose the option of not being scheduled per se, just expecting him in a timely fashion. The office called to say he was on his way. He inspected the hot water tank and discussed options for repair/replacement and we made our choices. He performed the work quickly and well, and he cleaned up after himself in all respects. The experience was a good one in all aspects and we will definitely call Ben Franklin Plumbing the next time the need arises.

Ben Franklin Plumbing advertises "straightforward pricing", in addition to 99.00 service call charge. We were desperate for this repair as we had some flooding from the pipe break...they were prompt, and courteous, but their "straightforward Price" is tantamount to gouging in my opinion. $199.00 per water line! That's 398.00, plus, they do not roll the 99.00 charge into the repairs. We were taken, for sure, but they were the only company who could come out right away, and since the water was shut off, we didn't want to wait. The plumber was really courteous, but he only took one hour to do this work , so price was excessive. We checked with another plumber from a well known company who said this was about a 150.00 to 200.00 job, tops. we will never use this company again, nor do we recommend them.
Description of Work: Replacement of washer lines, that is ,copper pipe section that leaked...and the shut offs for the hot/cold lines.

Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
It sounds like the company did everything they promised, did good, clean, courteous service, the only one that would come out, where was the other "cheaper" guy when you needed a plumber? It must cost the company more to have a good plumber on call. They charge what they quoted. This is the type of service most people would want and I would expect to pay a little more for this level of service. Good service companys are hard to find.
