Total Air has no integrity. I can't believe they get away with what they do. My three year old Rheem had a pipe vibrate loose which caused freon loss. I didn't know who to call, so I followed the big ad to Total Air. Once he arrived, the service technician diagnosed the problem, then called his supervisor for instructions. After getting off the phone, the service tech told me the part was under warranty, I would not be charged for the part, and they would return the next day to fix the unit. He gave me a quote of $680 to put the new part in. I paid him $89.95 for the service call. The tech said that someone from Total Air would call us in the morning and let us know when a tech would arrive. Well, by 11:30 the next morning, no one from Total Air had called us. I called them. I got an answering machine. I waited ten minutes. I called again, got an answering machine. I left a message. I left another message. By 12:30, no one had called me. Finally, I got a woman who told me that they couldn't come out until Wednesday, three days later. In Florida, 90 degree temps. I was not pleased. She went on to tell me that they were told by their warehouse that it would take 7-10 days to get the part, but she put a $50 rush on it, and they would be happy to fix my unit on Wednesday, if possible. She seemed pleased with herself for rushing this part. I was appalled. She hadn't even called me to ask if I was willing to wait or pay extra. I was decidedly unhappy and explained that the service tech had said he could have soldered the pipe and been done, but we chose not to do that because he said the part was under warranty and that was a better way to go. The woman at Total Air then informed me that the part was not under warranty and that we would be charged for it. What? They had already given me a quote. They had already told me the part was under warranty. Now they were taking that back. I told her to forget it. No one does business this way. She should have called to give me an option rather than making the judgment call on her own. I was really angry that I had dropped $89.95 right down a rat hole for them. I called a different A/C repair place. The new place told me the part I needed to fix my A/C unit was under warranty, the part was easy to obtain, and they could get the part the next day. End of story is that the other A/C place fixed my A/C for $187. Yes, you read that correctly. Total Air lied. Not only did they lie to me, but their bill for this repair was $680, plus the $89.95 I'd already paid, plus the price of the part which was under warranty. Wow!!! What a huge difference. So, you readers can decide for yourself whether or not Total Air is honest and fairly priced. I will always, ALWAYS use the other A/C place that came out, diagnosed, were honest, and didn't overcharge me. $187 for the actual repair. I am keeping the Total Air quote, just so people can see for themselves. I'm telling the truth. Maybe Total Air should start doing the same. Total Air is nothing short of rape. I feel used, and I wish I could get my $89.95 back.
