Never again! This man did not earn the 22%commission he charged. I believe that many of our problems were the consequence of a lack of supervision on his part. Whenever some discrepancy was noted which would require some expensive corrective action he would refuse to do so unless he could fix the responsibility on one of the subcontractors(and thereby avoid any costs), which was rarely possible since much work was done without his presence or that of his representative. Any time there was a difference of opinion between the subs and us he directed us to work it out with the sub ourselves. Once a sub took payment, left town without completing the work and he informed us that he would not complete the work without an additional charge! He also did some of the carpentry work himself..a library. The result was absolutely amateurish. His idea of trim work was to use 1"X 2"s to cover the seams of the plywood sheets used for the paneling. He hung a pocket door which now requires two mules and a little boy to pull shut! In the end we had quite a punch list. He never completed it. I totally agree with the previous reviewer with regard to his rudeness. Despite the fact that we were paying for his services he actually refused to even speak with my wife. If you wish to have an enjoyable building experience you must avoid this man.

Him, as a builder, he gets straight F's. His subcontractors were all wonderful. This guy was so horrible that he would yell at me and was rude to me. He wouldn't speak to me towards the end of the job. It was winter time when he was doing it and it was one of our coldest winters. There was an area we were extending in the garage so that we could move the bedroom door over. There was some kind of noisy paper almost like wax paper but worse. Instead of building the walls over there he left it like that for several months. It was freezing. He never stayed on the job. I had to stay there to watch because my whole house was opened up. We just had plastic across places for walls, etc. One time I had to leave and he said not to worry about it. I came back, he was gone and there were strange men I didn't know going in and out of my house installing windows. I had no idea who they were. He was rude. He was absolutely horrible. He was never punctual. He wasn't polite. He was never professional. He was a shorter guy and had a real problem with women. When I had to go over a punch list with him of the final little things, he was so rude to me. I just let him rant and I turned around and walked into the house. The guy that was installing our screen over our pool came down off the ladder and was going to go over and deck the guy. That's how bad it was. He's horrible. Everybody has warned me about this guy. He's overpriced. He never even finished the job. We had to come out of pocket at least another grand. There's more things in the house, like electrical plugs that don't work. The electrician couldn't find where the wire went. He never did fix the outlet. Scott didn't care about it. There's a small little crack up in the ceiling coming in our foyer. He was supposed to fix that but never came back. He painted doors wrong and tried to scratch off so it would be right. It's half done and half not. My husband has to keep refixing the doors. He's no good. I would never want anybody else to deal with this man. The new carpet he did has gaps in it. He never even bothered to follow the pattern for the rest of the house. He left glue all over the floor. He left glue on my gorgeous stone fireplace. I have glue stuck everywhere. It's horrible. I don't ever want to see the guy ever again. He was so rude to me. He was terrible. For the whole time he was doing this, my husband and I were at odds. He'd come on and I'd be close to tears or so angry. It was horrible. I don't want to have anything to do with him ever again. Anybody that uses him is a fool. Don't.
Description of Work: We used McCarthy Builders about a year ago. He extended our house out, knocked a wall out and extended a room. He put in a swimming pool. Scott McCarthy is the general contractor. He did a lot of it but he hired other people to do it.
