They answered the phone promptly. Was told they wont do anything if it wasn't bought from them. When I asked about replacement skylight through them they said they are so busy mid hurricane season the minimum they need for any job is $2000.00. Wow. Makes me want to quite my job and start a hurricane related business. Also, when ask if they could direct me to someone else they said no. So the phone call was a waste of time for me with nothing helpful provided. Unless you have over 2K job don't bother calling them.
Description of Work: I called about what could be done for a skylight that was negatively affecting my wind mitigation report.

It was a long struggle dealing with the city of Tamarac, but the staff at Red Oaks was there for me all the way. The original plan was to install an accordion shutter across the front door but the city would only allow that if I were to change the shutter across the front window to lock from the inside and have me crawl out the window if I need to escape from the house. As a 70 year old woman I didn't think that was in my best interest. So, we had to go with plan B, change my existing front door to an impact door. When the day arrived for installation, it was discovered that the factory had made an error in measurements and with my former door already removed Red Oaks had to bring out a temporary door. They were on that even before I knew there was a problem. The installation guys were fantastic, they even came out on a Sat. to complete the installation of the proper new front door. After we finally got the door installed, it did not pass the first inspection to a really ridiculous minor technical issue with the inspector. Dave from Red Oaks came out for the second inspection and waited an hour for the inspector to arrive so he could review the initial concern the inspector had with the installation. Bingo! That did the trick and we passed inspection with flying colors. At every step in the whole process the staff at Red Oaks answered all my questions and was extremely kind in dealing with my anxiety regarding meeting a deadline to obtain new homeowners insurance after my then current company decided to no longer write policies in my area. If you need anything and I mean anything done for your home you should call Red Oaks and allow them to assist you. You will everyone there a pleasure to work with all times. Dave is a superhero in my book!
Description of Work: Originally install hurricane shutter on front door, ended up replacing regular door with impact door.

My hurricane windows Installation was predicated on a problem with a previous hurricane shutter job that was never inspected by a building inspector. I bought my 17th floor condo and at the eleventh hour learned that I had an unresolved building permit hanging over my head and was in danger of the city "failing me" if they discovered the issue. (I had 2007-vintage shutters in place and wasn't sure whether I would need shutters on both the bedroom wall AND the patio wall or if I could get away with only one window. That was contingent upon whether or not the building inspector passed the shutters once we navigated the path to closing the old permit and opening a new one.) Therefore, the company had to deal with city ordinances/inspectors to reopen a decade-old permit, get the shutters inspected and then install a new 18' wide wall of turtle glass windows at the 17th story level. The company's sales representative went ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty, visiting the Lauderdale by the Sea building code people, getting a new wind load report, resolving problems when the city lost paperwork, and much more. He calmly and clearly explained everything and was exactly on-time for each and every appointment. He got the required sign-off from the city, which saved me approx. $10,000. I didn't need the patio wall of windows immediately. The window installation was flawless. The company draped everything, moved quickly and efficiently, cleaned up the rubble (and I do mean rubble), worked within condo AM and PM restrictions, and did a beautiful installation job. I could not have asked for anything more. SUPERB VENDOR bent on providing EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!

They were a fantastic company to do business with; everyone we encountered from the receptionist to the scheduler to the work crews was courteous and industrious. Dianne (the scheduler) worked with us via email to determine if a rebuild would be sufficient or if we needed a replacement and then fitted us into their deservedly busy schedule since we needed the work done before we left for the summer. We received both email and phone call confirmations of the arrival times of the work crews and when the crew removing the shutter was running late, we were warned and kept informed of their anticipated arrival time. Both crews were very nice guys and conscientious about cleaning up after themselves.
Description of Work: Rebuilt our 17+ foot long balcony hurricane accordion shutter: removed the shutter and brought it back to their shop where they replaced all the wheels, drilled the salt out of the blades, replaced the locking rods, washed the shutter, and than reinstall the shutter and touched up the ceiling paint that had chipped off in the shutter removal process.

After manufacturing a shutter for my home, I called Red Oak three times regarding followup questions. I spoke to a receptionist who took the information but I never received a call back. I manage my own 9 apartments and have a friend that has a property management business. I would not use Red Oak again and would strongly suggest that they not be used due to their poor follow up service.

We had nine (yes, nine) companies come out to measure and give us estimates on an impact front door and hurricane windows and shutters (a combination) for the second story of our house. Several of the companies never even followed up with an estimate, which was terrible, and a couple of others were slow with them or needed my prompting to even send them at all. From the beginning, I was really impressed with Red Oaks. Merle, our salesman, was nice and prompt and most important to me, he gave me the information I asked for in our estimate, the first time! They were the only company that did this. (I had asked for a breakdown of cost for each window as a shutter vs impact glass, and then what would the cost be if we removed certain windows etc so it was a little complicated, but he got it right the first try while no one else did.) A few other things that stood out about Red Oaks: they painted our new front door (white) instead of just leaving it for us to have to paint (as all the other companies do); it did not cost much more at all to get the thicker (better at noise reduction) 7/16” glass instead of the 5/16” which most other companies offered; their glass was tinted at no extra charge. Also, 2 of the shutters were going to be installed over our pool screen (second story) and all the other companies were going to charge us to (or have us pay someone else to) remove sections of our pool screen for installation, then have to reattach the screen afterwards; instead Red Oaks built a scaffolding-type structure (with no damage to the house) so the guys could install the shutters without affecting the pool screen at all. This saved us some money! Their price was 2nd lowest of all the estimates I got. The install process went as well as can be expected I think. I was told it would take 2-3 days and it did not; the men were at our house full-time for 3 days, then I needed to be present for them to come by (or for inspections) on another 4 days, so it really took more like 7-8 days for it all to be done. This was spread out over 2 weeks so it did feel like it dragged on. That said, the company was great about staying in touch about what was going on. I wish the inspection process had been better explained to me so I knew what to expect and how that all worked; the inspector had to come by twice which I guess is normal but I just wish I had been informed better. Also, during the removal of our old windows, one window broke (I guess this happens) and we are still finding glass shards in the garden below even though the guys tried to clean it up. Overall the install crew was great, led by Jaysen Matias. Friendly, fairly prompt (not always 100% on time but it seems like no vendors are in S Florida!!), and really went out of their way to make things look great. They took obvious pride in their work. They even went out of their way to do things like put our blinds back up after they were done (I don’t think other companies do this!) and because I am quite pregnant 2 of them were kind enough to move a rocking chair upstairs for me to the nursery – so nice. I can’t say enough good things about how pleasant all of the Red Oaks staff were to deal with. Every time I called (which was often) I was greeted in a friendly manner and the few issues I encountered were addressed promptly and by someone with an obvious smile. I would highly recommend the company and Jaysen’s crew.

The person who took my call would not commit to either the repairs or the maintenance until she verified that my shutters could be repaired and that they had the parts to repair them. I reminded her that Red Oaks has a picture of my condominium building on their web site. She said that she would get back to me. I followed the telephone call with an e-mail that listed my name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. This was on Monday at 8:35 AM. Red Oaks did not contact that week and I flew to another state on Sunday. Nine days after my phone call, on a Wednesday while I was out of state, Red Oaks called and left a message stating that they could come the following Friday for an hour to perform the maintenance, but I had to let them know right away before they re-scheduled the time. The message said nothing about the repairs. I returned home the following weekend and listened to the message on my answering machine.
Description of Work: I needed repairs to my existing shutters and I also wanted to establish a periodic preventive maintenance schedule. I called Red Oaks first because they have a picture of my condominium building on their web site so I thought that they had performed several projects here. I called on Monday at 8:35 AM and explained that I needed repairs and periodic maintenance.

They kept their appointment time and the job only took a half hour or so. They were very careful not to damage the building.
