Coastal Comfort Air Conditioning

It didn’t go well. First they sent an engineer that didn’t know what he was doing. Our a/c was working fine before they arrived and he must have tripped the fuse and couldn’t figure what happened. We called for another technician. The next technician was kind of arrogant and purchased a part without telling us about these extra costs. I didn’t have a problem with the part itself, but I wish he would have discussed it with us. I still need to hire another company to fix things. The guys they sent were totally unprofessional and I am left with more problems than before they came out. Across the board it was a nightmare.

It went great! The gentleman who performed the service was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and factual. He told me flat out that though my unit was old, it was performing very very well. We're talking about a 17 year old unit here... and he didn't try to sell me a new one like the previous company did. He gave me some tips, and did his job well. If this unit ever needs changing or service, I am not giving any other company a thought... these guys have my business.

I'm totally overwhemed with the degree of professionalism that they brought to the job. My mother was extremely impressed with how "cleanly" they worked. My father was happy with the price and thje service was prompt and efficient.

Tech was knowledgeable and efficient. Checked out my older unit and pronounced it healthy without trying to sell me a new system. Past service companies have been pronouncing it "on its last legs" since I bought the house in 1999.

The repair went just fine. The price was just a little high.

This was probably the best service experience I've had in recent memory. Reason: The tech, Jason, did an awesome job. I stayed close to Jason as he did the job, not for lack of trust, I just wanted to see what I could learn. He explained in detail what he was doing -- and why -- every step of the way. He essentially gave me a mini education on AC drain line clogs. Doesn't seem exciting, I know, but as I home owner I really appreciated it. "OK, you see this? This is a problem because of XY and Z, and the way we are gonna solve it now is to do 123 - and you can prevent it from happening again by doing ABC." Terrific tech -- highly experienced, honest, friendly -- very cool guy. Represented Coastal Comfort in the best light. By the way - the ladies I spoke to in their dispatch office were also terrific - polite, professional, and crystal clear in how they communicated. So what did Jason do that was so great? Unclog my A/C's drain line. Sounds like a simple job, but trust me there's a good amount of analysis and many steps in the repair. First, my air handler is in the attic. The air handler has a drip pan. Under the air handler itself there is a second very large drip pan with a float switch. The second pan was full of water (like 10 or more gallons!) and the float switch stopped the A/C to protect the ceiling from water overflowing the pan. I tried last night to unclog it but it was impossible - I could not access the drain line w/o cutting pipes and I did not feel comfortable doing that in the attic with so much water. Jason first tried suction from the outside, but that did not work - the clog was very stubborn. He had to get a bottle of pressurized nitrogen, cut the drain line near the drip pan in the attic, and carefully let the pressure from the nitrogen build until it finally unclogged the line. Then he had to drain the 10+ gallons of water in the large drip pan. He also noticed that the drain line in the exterior of my home did not have a P-Trap. The P-trap is a u-shape in the last bit of the drain pipe that is meant to keep water in that "u" and keep air from being suctioned upwards/inwards. Jason took a couple of elbows and made a P-trap in 2 minutes. It's hard to explain - but it's the little details at each step that impressed me. I'm definitely calling Coastal Comfort on my next A/C service call, and I highly recommend them.

These guys are great! Lenny arrived with Nick and Tom at the scheduled time and immediately began to get to work. We went over everything that was going to be done that day so everyone was on the same page. After about a half an hour or so, Lenny had to get going and left us in the capable hands of Nick and Tom. Both guys were extremely professional and thorough about their work. If any changes needed to be made in order to complete the project, the guys checked with us first. When the job was finished, they showed us everything they had done and made sure we were completely satisfied with the work. They wrote the size filter we would need on the Air Handler so we would know which one to purchase for future changes and gave us tips on how to keep the system at peak performance (I never knew about the bleach and water trick to clean it!). Tom put back the trellis we had up to hide the outside unit from the street and Nick even patched up the drywall where the old thermostat was before installing our new digital one. Will definately use them again for our Air conditioning needs!

I decided not to go with them. I didn't like their pricing and the brand that they offered. They came out on the same day to give me a bid for the job. They are punctual and showed up when they said they were going to show up. They are very professional.

I was not pleased with the service for $75 from a big deal purchase. The guy who came out to do the service didn't start on a good note, so I wasn't really happy with that. The same company came out and I was thrilled with the supervisor. They ended up replacing the entire unit and I was happy with that work. The two guys who came out to do an install were fabulous. They were very seasoned. They knew what they were doing. They got in and they got out. The house cooled by end of the day and I was very happy. The installers were excellent, but the technician was not that much.

IT WENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED

The tech arrived on time as scheduled. He was very professional. This was an Angie's list Big Deal ordered on line. The maintenance was completed as per the $75.00 agreement. I requested the new thermostat. The tech did not upsell the job. The additional cost to install the thermostat was very reasonable. I would not hesitate calling Coastal for my future service.

I was not present during appointment - my neighbor let in the service person and stayed with him. The service person calls and tells me that my thermostat is not working. I know this to be untrue since it has been working for the last year since installed. When I tell him this, he says that yes it works, but that the programmable part is broken and he cannot service the unit until it works. This is total bull. I asked him what to do and he says that he can install a new programmable for $200. I told him that this is outrageous since Home DePot sells them for around $40. He then said that he can install a non-programmable one for $100. I unfortunately said okay and he proceeds. I then get another call from him and he says that the bill is going to be $300. I told him 'no way' since I had the Angie's List couple for $75 and then the non-programmable was $100. He first said that the Angie's List coupon was void since he also installed the thermostat and he had to charge me for the per hour rate. I protested and said that this is bull since he never said anything about this when he was trying to sell me the 'new' thermostat. I called the main office and explained the situation to the manager. She understood and apologized. She said that my credit card will only be billed the $75 and also the $100 that I was quoted. I haven't gotten my credit card bill yet, so since by now I totally don't trust them at all I will be sure to review that bill!!! This is unfortunate since I am new to the area and was hoping to find a good HVAC company to rely on - and they certainly cannot be trusted! I am unsure if the service man even cleaned the filter or did anything to my unit at all!

Let me start with item B). the two workers that came over to service the units were punctual , polite and VERY good at their jobs. Did a full overview and serviced both units and didn't try to push any additional items which is usually the case on service calls of this nature by other companies. I felt really good about them and their service. As for Item A) the guys did a great job but in hindsight I thought that $300 for a half hour of work was a bit much. cut hole in wall - Add retrun register- Pack up collect $300. I should have tackled it myself in hindsight. Did they do a great job - Yes. Was I kicking myself because I felt like I overpaid..Yes! Overall when I buy my new system ( Hopefully not for a while) I'm calling Coastal!!

The tech came out and cleared the clog. He also checked the condition of the AC unit and found that the unit was in good shape. The visit didn't take long.

Just moved into a new house and we didn't know if anyone ever maintained this A/C system. The guys were on time and pleasant to work with. Took good care of my house. I think they did a good job as well.

I was very impressed with the service I received. The service person was very professiona, called when he was 20 minutes away and did a thorough inspection and cleaning of the system.
