Not well at all.
Description of Work: Provider was asked to fix the rubber seal on the bottom of the garage door so it would seal tightly against the floor. This was done, but the service person also said he did something to fix a noise that occurred each time the door was lowered. I did not ask him to do this, and next day I noticed that the beautiful brown wood covering on the outside of the door was split open. This was not there before the service call, and could only have been caused by the effort to "fix" the noise issue. I explained this to Broten, and they sent a person out to inspect. He declared that the split was not their responsibility, even though what their service man had done had caused it. I contacted the owner, and explained the situation and asked her to fix the wood damange. She refused, taking the position that the wood split on its own and that they did not cause it. This is not so, and my maids could testify that the outside of the door was perfectly fine until after the so-called repair. Now, I am faced with having to take the entire door off, ship it away for new wood. Broten simply walked away from a clear liability. I had been a loyal customer for over 12 years, but I would never use them ever again.

This member contacted us 4/21/2014 to repair the weather strip on the bottom of his garage door. Our service technician did replace the weather strip and did lube and adjust the garage door which is standard for a garage door repair. The member had run into his garage door prior to our coming on April 21st and the damage was clearly visible on the inside of the garage door. We believe the fact that the door had been damaged prior to our service call is the reason that the wood split as stated. We sent our Field Supervisor to the home to assess the damage and the door and found that the garage door was indeed damaged significantly from being run into by a vehicle. I then contacted the member and explained that we did not believe our repair was the cause of the damage but that the damage was caused when the door was hit. The member explained that he had someone else repair the wood damage prior to our servicing the door and I asked if he could call that same person again to do the repair. He stated that he could not as that person was no longer available to do that. I let him know that there was no easy fix for the problem and the only solution we could offer was to replace the section which we had done previously in 2009 when the door had once again been hit by a vehicle. I stated we would not do this free of charge as we did not believe we were responsible for the damage but I would be willing to work with him on the price. He stated he did not want to proceed as he knew from the previous time we replaced the section that we would have to take out the bottom section that was damaged as well as the second section, bring them back to our shop, recover the new section, and then return the sections to him and install them, which would leave him without the two sections for several days. He stated his home was for sale and it would be easier for him to leave the door as it was and to sell the house as is. We are still willing to work with this member on replacing the section should he wish to proceed in that way. Sincerely, Kriste LaMay Owner

We met with this member at his home on the morning of May 15, 2014. At that time we informed him that his existing structure was not up to the required code necessary for us to install a new garage door. We recommended that he obtain plans from an engineer or architect to bring the structure up to code and submit those plans to the building department to obtain a building permit. We explained that our garage door could be included in that building permit, or, once the structure had been completed and inspected, we could apply for a permit for the garage door. We sent a follow-up email to the member later that same day restating and confirming our recommendations. Due to the building code requirements that we must adhere to for the installation of a new garage door we could do nothing further until the structure had been modified to meet the required code. We have no record of 4 ignored phone calls from this member as stated in his review, but certainly offer our sincerest apologies if we did not return any calls the member made to us. We did try to contact the member upon receipt of his review but he was not willing to speak to us. Sincerely, Kriste LaMay President
