It turned out well. It was fairly straight-forward. They contact me and we settled on a time and date. They told me when to come out, they came out on time and at the time they said they would. They were very responsive.
Description of Work: It was part of a big deal that I bought from Angie's List. They came out, they inspected and then they told me the condition of the roof and what we needed.

A guy showed up three hours late with a hammer only. No ladder, tools, saw, etc. He used all of my tools to complete job and I actually had to complete the job with him. I actually spent the whole day on the roof with the repair man.. At the end of the first night, it was still not fixed and both of us were on the roof trying to get it dry. I called the sales man who was not helpful at all. I ended up talking to the manager, once he got involved, things started going correctly. I was ultimately satisfied with services but they had to come back to the house to clean up tar and mess that they had made. They said that they would bring tiles which they didn't and they said they would clean the gutters but they did not. Mixed bag ... I was ultimately satisfied but not with the initial contact. The manager was not the one doing the job ... I did most of work.

My experience with Bentley Roofing was top notch from start to finish. Now, there are reviews out there that are all positive and glowing, with tons of A grades and exclamation points that tell you nothing. This is not one of those reviews and Bentley is not one of those companies-- they are the real deal. They were amazing. The co-owner and project manager, Brian Budd, came to my house in May 2014 for a consultation. He was on-time, polite, and knew his stuff. After measuring the roof, he sat down with me to go over the job and my options. He spent two hours at my house explaining all of the options available to me, going over materials, and addressing some of my specific concerns about particular areas of the roof. He gave me my quote and honored the price for about two months and did not attempt to pressure me into signing a contract right away. He told me to take my time, figure out what I wanted, and give me a call. No high-pressure tactics, no statements of "I can only guarantee this price for two weeks," or any of the other typical ploys used by many of the other roofers I called. The price was around $18,000 for the re-roof, about $4,000 less than the closest competitor. Why was this? Because unlike the other companies who wanted to charge extra for labor because the tiles would have to be walked from the rear of my house to a dumpster in the front, Brian didn't seek to make a profit off of his labor charge. That's called being an honest businessman. I also had the option to upgrade the roof-to-wall attachment on my home from toenails to hurricane straps, which I did, for about $2,000. After the contract was signed, the tear-off crew came promptly to my house within a week and began the process. They were neat, respectful, and cleaned up everything when they were done. The hurricane strap installation was completed within a day and passed all inspections. We had to wait two weeks for the tile to be delivered due to the tile manufacturer, but once the tile was delivered the roof was done within three or four days. It not only looks beautiful, but it is absolutely water tight and is guaranteed for ten years. Brian was a fantastic project manager, addressing my concerns every step of the way, answering questions, and showing up in person every day to check on the progress and consult with his foreman. I didn't even have to make the first payment until the tear-off and the felting was completed, which tells me that this is a company with lines of credit and cash reserves-- they're not bugging you for money every day they show up. Brian also handled all minor hiccups in a fast, professional manner. After the felt was installed, there was a major rainstorm with high winds and there were a few leaks that made their way into home and stained my ceilings. After the roof was completed, Brian sent their in-house painter and plasterer to repair and restore all of the areas where water was able to penetrate at no charge and the painter did an excellent job. They didn't send some guy they found at Home Depot, or one of the roofers with a can of Killz and a paintbrush-- they actually have a professional painter in their employ whose sole job is to ensure that their customers' homes are in the same condition they were in before the job started. This is the mark of an excellent company. From start to finish, I had an excellent experience with Bentley Roofing. I strongly encourage anyone who is looking to have their roof repaired or replaced to give Brian a call and schedule an appointment. You will not be disappointed!
Description of Work: Complete re-roof for a 2-story tile roof. Removed bottom row of roof sheathing to upgrade roof-to-wall attachments from toenails to hurricane straps. Installed Miami-Dade approved skylight.

No one told me how to go about selecting a tile. I requested many times to receive a catalog or receive websites that would allow me to browse different tile options. He sent me a total of three color choices. I started to get very nervous in mid-September, as I had not picked a tile yet In the meantime, they did fill out a permit for me and got the paperwork from HOA, but they should have done this after I had chosen a tile. In late September, I discovered a leak in my bathroom ceiling, and notified Brian that I would need to get this done job as this needed to be corrected immediately. My roof was in dire need of a re-roof, as there was already a leak in my bedroom. I ended up having my ex-husband call the company to try to get this resolved, something I never do. They blamed me for the delay in starting work, as I had not chosen a tile. I learned later that I could have gone to a showroom with them, but they didn't let me know this until months into the project. Given this, we didn't end up choosing a tile until November 19. On November 18, I tripped and hurt myself, which required me to up my medication and has made this process even more difficult. Mike Devaney, the owner, said I would have to pay put up a tarp, though I feel it is the company's fault because of these delays. The company has also refused to paint my ceiling. Given they are so past completion, I feel they should pay for this tarp and paint the ceiling. It would be easy for him to paint the ceiling, as he has the crew and capabilities to do this. We ended up getting into a screaming match in my home. He said he would not do any more work for me unless I paid him. He ended up walking off the job. He was nasty, he was rude, and completely unprofessional. My ex-husband has since contacted him again to try to work this out, and nothing has happened. I am out $3500, which he refuses to return. Mike DeVaney can be very personable and kind, but he has been abusively rude to me.
Description of Work: Don Curtis came out to my home to discuss my project after speaking on the phone. He was a very nice man. He told me had stage 4 cancer, which we discussed for a while, as I am disabled, crippled, and ill. After discussing the project, they brought the price of my project down by $100. After we had agreed upon this, he called the office to confirm this, and told me that he was scolded by management for this. Later, he told me he had resigned from the job, but a new employee would be managing my project named Brian. They promised completion, which was not written down, however it was understood that my project would completed by 9/30/14, as I was scheduled to have surgery in New York. All that was given to me was a payment schedule. I gave him a deposit of $3500 on August 1. This was a condition of the sale.

I am building a new garage & carport.. I will need a shingle roof for the new construction. On October 21st, I contacted Tina Lari of Bentley Roofing by phone. As per her instructions I sent my plans for a new garage and carport via email to her office. She confirmed the same day via email that she had received the plans; "I have received your email. I sent it over to our operations manager. Mr. Brian Budd will review it and be in contact with you soon. " Having not heard from them by November 3rd, I sent an email to Tina; "I have not heard from anyone in your organization. Do you intend to provide a quote?" Today I received a fax (without any call to discuss or anything else, from Brian Budd for 39.66 squares - $16,350.00. Approximately $6,000 higher than the next highest quote that I received. Prior to chucking it in the wastebasket I looked at the details (scant) and see that they intend to remove & replace 39 Squares. Considering that the new garage and carport is less than 28 squares, I realized there was a mistake. I called Bentley and asked to speak with Brian Budd, and explained that he had made a large mistake on the quote, would he please call me back. I have not heard back from him. Should he call back and work with me to get a quote for the real project, irrespective of whether I use them I will adjust the score. Edit: 11/7/2014 As promised I said I would update should they call back. They called me back, I explained that the quote appeared to be wrong and why I believed that. They said they would look into it. They did and faxed a new quote on November 6th. They recalculated at 30.66 Squares. with a price of $12,200. I changed their scores from F's to C's because they called me back. They were polite & professional, but I feel justified in leaving them at C because they took two weeks to get a quote together, and made either an error, or were trying to inflate their price by saying the roof was bigger than it is. They are still higher than all other bids. They may provide quality work, but their quoting leaves something to be desired.

The installation was different from they offer. First for justify the price they charge for a 600 s/f they told me that they would change the all cooper board, but at the end nothing was changed, they kept the original cooper board. Second, they delay more than 5 months to close the permit so when we were install the roof deck we was surprised with a city fine due an open permit and a big headache to resolve all that. Worst the original reason to hire them was to solve a leaking from the rooftops but it wasn't from there so I spent $8,000 in a new roof plus $12,000 in a new wood deck and still have a leaking in my bathroom.

[Name removed], I am sorry to hear of your displeasure with your roofing experience, particularly since comments we received from your wife vary greatly from those of your review. I understand your frustration with your current predicament, however, because I feel that it is fair to provide all pertinent information in a public review forum I must take exception to your presentation of the facts. First of all, you had a number of active leaks present in your bathroom, only one of which was not roof related. Second, the only copper not changed during your re-roof was the stucco stop flashing attached to your parapet walls, which is typically not changed during a re-roof such as yours. Third, you failed to disclose why your permit took so long to be closed. Had you not hired an unlicensed deck contractor to install a walkable wood deck over the flat roof WITHOUT A PERMIT, we would not have had an issue getting the final inspection done by the city. Had you followed protocol and not tried to deceive the city of Miami Beach, none of your issues would have occurred. Furthermore, we continued to help you with your problems with the city even though it was not our responsibility to do so. We corrected a wall leak for you that had no relation to our contract, and we found an engineer to help you with the deck. At our own expense, a representative of our company accompanied your wife on multiple occasions to the city to help guide you through the difficult permitting process. I have taken quite some time to respond to this review in the hopes that you had posted it out of frustration, and would remove it yourself. Since that has not happened, it is necessary for me to disclose all appropriate information so that members whom read your review can make an accurate and informed decision. Rick was very professional. We had challenges trying to match our schedules, but he was very good about contacting me. He inpected the roof, and did find a problem. He said it was not a big deal that needed immediate attention, but should be taken care of within the next year. In other words, he was HONEST. And that goes a long way, believe me, especially here in S. FLA where there are plenty of crooks who will try to sell you unnecessary work. He fixed some loose and broken tiles, and was on his way. All in all, a very positive experience, and I will use this company again when we need to have the remaining issue fixed.

Rick Smith from Bentley came out to quote my project (a number of flat roof repairs) the day that I called him. He took photos and explained each of the necessary repairs to me. He estimated the work would be done over 2-3 days, and quoted me a price that was about 10% lower than the 3 others I had had, despite containing one extra step. We agreed on a date about 5 days away to begin. Unfortunately, there were very heavy rains the two days before, which I knew would impact the schedule. Rick called immediately to confirm, and he and his team came out the day after the roof dried. Over the course of the next two days they cut away the old, leaky perimeter, fixed a number of bubbles and sealed multiple sections of our roof with a white elastomer coating. At one point I think there were 6 or 7 people working at once (it's a pretty big roof), and let me tell you, these guys WORK. It was probably 110 degrees up there, and that was without the extra heat from the torches they were using. Despite that (or maybe because of it), they were busy and efficient. It has been about a week (and 2 more heavy rains) since the work was completed, and all signs of the initial perimeter leak have vanished, and from what everyone has told me, the white coating should help lower our cooling bills from now on. Overall I'm very satisfied with the work performed.
Description of Work: Repaired several bubbles in a large section of asphalt roof, removed and sealed an unused dryer vent, did a full edge repair/replacement on about 120 linear feet of flat roof, and applied elastomeric coating to 3 flat roofs.

I bought a $99.00 special for a roof maintenance package which included a roof inspection and refastening, re nailing, up to 25 tiles if required. Upon inspection, I was told that the roof was too damaged to do any repairs that would last or be eligible for a warranty. The only choice really was to replace the roof to the tune of $25,000. which included all sorts of discounts, Nothing was ever discussed about my purchase for any tile replacements or even an acknowledgement of my Angie's list purchase. I just threw out $99.00 for an inspection which other companies do for free. What a total waste of money. I since called and got two other companies who both gave me a completely different story. They said that the previous repair to my roof in June would last me through this year and I could wait for a new roof even though I did need one, Both companies told me to wait and the cost would be approximately $10,000-$15,000 for a new roof. Quite the difference in price. No high fevered sales pitch, no scaring me into immediately getting a new roof, and both companies also came from friends who highly recommended these companies. I bought this deal from Angies thinking this company was "A:" rated and if I had read the reviews prior to purchase I would not have ordered this,

I called Bentley Roofing first because they had a Blow Out deal listed on Angies List for a new roof for $9,999. I did not receive a return call so I e-mailed Bentley two days later. Brian immediately called me back, appolagized and came out two days later to give me an estimate. When the estimate was $17,800, I asked about the $9,999 New Roof Blow out deal. Brian's comment was, you don't want that roof, they nail it on and you don't want a nailed on roof and it is just something that Angies List puts out there. To me this felt like a bait and switch. The $9,999 new roof offer is no loner on Angies List but other Blow Out deals are. Needless to say we went with another roofer and are very satisfied with the job.

[member name removed], I am saddened to hear about your dissatisfaction with the re-roof quote you received from us. We take great pride in servicing our customers and try to provide them with the best assessments and services as possible. That being said, I believe there must have been some serious miscommunication between you and Brian. The roof special is based primarily on square footage, not application standard. We do typically recommend an upgrade to the foam adhesive at an increased price, but this in itself would not result in the price difference you described. Your roof is considerably larger than the 2000 square feet covered in the roof special, and the cost of the additional squares was clearly printed in the deal. Perhaps if Brian had known your feelings about the quote at the time of our presentation, he would have been able to explain things much better. Although our quote may have been higher than the advertised price of a 20 square roof, I am sure that it could not have been significantly different from the price you actually paid your roof assuming your contractor installed a similar roof system. Even though you did not review us favorably, we still appreciate you taking the time to meet with us and to write your review. If you have any further comments, please call me at 954-979-2233. Thank You, Michael Devaney Bentley Roofing LLC. President

Company called promptly and came next day in a rain storm. Said my roof was the second worst he has seen and claimed it was the pressure washer who caused it. Said job would cost approximately $1,000 and he would email me a quote with pictures attached. Said he would do repairs and I should make the pressure washer pay the bill. Told him, I had the same guy for over 10 years and never had an issue. Never heard from Bentley again. Called another roofer to see if what I was told was accurate and he said no and fixed it for $200. Bentley's initial visit was to include checking and sealing cracks around pipes as well, but didn't do a thing since it was raining. Still didn't come back to give me what I paid for. Would NOT recommend them to anyone!
