contacted gerald for ballpark estimate on demo of 800 square foot home down to block work then adding 800 square feet addition. Asked for rough cost per square foot for job like this and if he had done it before. explained it was a home we were purchasing for $100,000 but need an idea of if the numbers to make sure it makes sense for us to add the extra square footage. he refused to give any idea as to cost. offered to explain property or give property address to view online or in person if preferred. said he's too successful to chase deals since we don't own the property yet. said i understand, please just give me idea of cost on previous jobs like this he'd done and what it worked to per sq foot roughly so i could judge if this makes sense,he can come by after we purchase and give accurate bid. refused and said too busy to deal with this and hung up. honestly, i didn't realize us trying to determine how to spend our $125,000 cash and giving broad range figure off top of your head was such a time waster. less than 1 minute of time.

Very curt initial phone conversation. Contractor answered phone with "hello". Had to acknowledge that I called AJS Construction. He said "yes". Told him I would like to put in a patio screened area off my house as well as renovate my carport. He said "not interested". I repeated his answer "not interested"? He said "job too small". That was it - short and sweet. Phone call ended after 30 seconds. My question is - how could the job be too small when other jobs the contractor has completed were smaller - replaced 2 outside beams $1000, added screen porch $50,400. I have already obtained one bid from a contractor in excess of $100,000. This job definitely has size! He just couldn't be bothered.

Jerry responded within 24 hrs of my call and came out to provide a quote for the service. He provided very good advice on the repairs. He did an excellent job on the repairs, was totally professional, neat and took great care with his work. I would strongly recommend him for construction service. I will use him again!!!

I could not be happier! The quality of the work, the professionalism and attention to detail, and the friendliness of Jerry and his team were all excellent. They were delightful to work with from the beginning to the end. Jerry came to see the property before providing a quote and, as we discussed the project, he made several suggestions for reducing the costs. (Steel was apparently at a record high price when I decided to do this. Very unfortunate!) Jerry worked well with the architect, too - no communication problems there. Jerry also arranged for additional vendors when needed (for example, to re-route the irrigation system) and they, too, were excellent professionals. Watching Jerry work was inspiring, especially as he was installing the tongue-in-groove cedar panels in the ceiling. His artistry and perfectionism were - and are - greatly appreciated. And he was kind enough to install the ceiling fans for me at no additional cost. From start to finish, the project took about about 10 weeks which was as planned. Why am I writing this review now? First, I just joined Angie's List. More importantly, a friend knowledgeable about construction saw the porch a few days ago, and then the photos I took during its construction which show all the details now hidden (like the footers and roofing trusses). He raved about the masterful construction and attention to detail that was clearly evident both in the photos and the finished porch. I thought it was time I shared with a larger audience just how fine a contractor Jerry is. His work is excellent and I would hire him again with no reservation.

All the work was completed on time and at the agreed to prices per the proposals for each segment of the work done. Jerry and his staff were always very careful with my personal property while they were completing the renovations. I was away for two weeks at a time on several occasions during the work period but had no qualms about trusting my property with Jerry. In several instances, I left decisions about brands of kitchen and bathroom appliances, styles and finishes of cabinetry and paint colors up to Jerry. I was always satisfied with the choices made on my behalf.

Highly recommend AJS Construction Inc. he is a licensed and insured contractor and a pleasure to work with as well as efficient and thorough.

Jerry and his crew at AJS were INCREDIBLE!!! The entire renovation process took approximately 6 months and my family and I lived in the house for at least half of that time. It was not easy for us but Jerry made every effort to ensure the project be completed in a timely manner and with as little disruption to the family as possible. He is extremely organized, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. His team is also highly experienced, respectful and friendly. We opened up our home to them for months and every morning they arrived with a smile, ready to work. I am 100% completely satisfied with their work and refer them to friends and family often. My home is absolutely BEAUTIFUL thanks to Jerry and his team!!! AJS will always be my first call when I have work to be done!

Wish I had known Jerry was available before I started my project. He was recommended by the painter to provide and install new interior doors. I had done my research and the price was very fair. He was the most responsive and gave me the best delivery time of all the vendors. I asked him if he could look at several punch out items the other contractors failed to finish, including light fixtures, towel rod, curtain rod etc. Jerry's work was absolutely the best of any of the contractors I hired. Wish he had been in charge from the beginning. His work is meticulous and he was very responsive to every one of my requests! Plan to call Jerry first next time I have a home improvement project.

Howard and his helpers were very professional. The work took a little more time than expected, but the quality couldn't be beat.
