Since we were due for a maintenance service on our system, I asked that he do it while he was at my house sinde the other repair took no time at all. He said no because it wasn't on the schedule. I offered to call the office to see if they would authorize it and he said no, don't call. I explained that I didn't want to have to schedule yet another service and since he was out today to fix a problem they caused, they should try to accommodate me. He said it was my fault if I was going to be inconvenienced because I hadn't planned ahead and scheduled the service call. My husband didn't like his tone of voice or attitude and asked him to leave our property. When I called to speak to a supervisor all I got were excuses for the poor behavior. I explained I was a 12 year loyal customer who they were now going to lose to a competitor and he couldn't have cared less. I would never do business with them again. They are a horrible company with poorly trained, rude employees.
Description of Work: Air Around the Clock was called to fix a problem with our AC. Two days later the AC stopped working. They returned and the tech noticed a hook up that had disconnected. It took him 30 seconds to fix. (The date of service is a guess; I wasn't an Angies List member at the time or I would have posted this review right away)

I told sales person that I was only going to purchase their ac system in December 2010 if I was assured of 24 hour emergency service and he assured me that was the case. Silly me assumed that "24 hour emergency service" as printed on the sticker on my unit and confirmed by the sales person along with the company name "Air Around the Clock" meant that I would not have to suffer a sleepless summer night stuck to my sheets like glue because of no air because they would send someone to fix it that night. Not So!!!!!!!!! Less than 6 months after purchasing the new unit installed end December 2010, water was pouring from unit in mid-June.
Description of Work: If you think "24 hour emergency service" means same day think again - owner Eric Perreira wrote in response to my letter of complaint "We can have someone at your house within 24 hours of talking to us." However, to me "24 hr emergency service" does NOT equal "someone at your house within 24 hrs of talking us" especially given the content of their radio ads which many friends told me sounds like you can call anytime and they will send someone out if it is is an emergency. Not so! just read the owner's own words below. They installed a new a/c unit and in less than 6 months I came home one night to water pouring out of the unit in the garage and staining the wall in my house. I called them frantically at 11 pm begging for someone to come out but was told that it was just their answering service and no one could help me until morning. Here is owner Eric Pereira's own words in his letter --"The name of our company is Air Around the Clock, while you may have been told by someone that it means 24 hours a day dispatch that is not what it means. We work seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year. We can have someone at your house within 24 hours of talking to us. The paperwork you received with your initial call and the installation clearly have our normal service hours printed on them. We also offer emergency service, at an additional flat charge for the emergency service. The repair pricing is the same whether normal or emergency service. I assume you understand that Pizza Hut is not in a 'Hut' and the First Baptist Church does not mean that it was the original one. If you were to call Bob's Plumbing, would you not accept Greg the plumber who shows up at the door?" These are his exact statements excerpted from his letter so you can see how sarcastic he is. He refused to take any responsibility for the water stains on the wall claiming "It is not our responsibility to make sure your drain line stays clear of obstructions, which is your drain line". However, that is a weak excuse. It was the fault of the float switch that his company installed - the float switch did not function properly. If it had, this would not have happened. I received his letter in August 2011 but I was just too busy with family medical issues to address this but it has been gnawing at me especially when I hear his radio ads that make me cringe given the circumstances. He should not be allowed to have such misleading advertising! And he should take responsibility for the malfunction of the float switch his company installed. In fact, the person who came out to see the problem said he would make an adjustment so that it would be more sensitiv e and self-correct from now on. This clearly indicates that if the system had been properly adjusted when installed, this unfortunate situation would not have happened!

Response from Air Around the Clock A/C & Appliance Service
I’m truly sorry the member is distressed by our company policy, but our policy of hours being Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday till noon is our regular working schedule. Emergency service is available for after hour service, but at an emergency charge. This is not a recently created schedule; rather this policy has been in effect for years. After hours service has an extensive cost factor to us and we cannot go out for free. The member called our office at 11:00 pm and received our answering service and was advised she would get a call back in the morning. We do not send techs out at that late hour as their wellbeing is a priority. An air conditioner can always be shut off to stop the leaking until service is provided. End result, we showed up promptly the next day for a “no charge” appointment. As for the float switch I wish to express that we not a manufacturer, therefore, we do not make the parts, we merely install them. A float switch is a precautionary device to aide in the possibility of a leak or flood. This part does not guarantee the system not to leak or flood and does at times malfunction and/or requires adjustments. The system was leaking because the member's existing drain line backed up. Six months after the a/c installation her drain line needed to be blown out. We performed this service and at the same time adjusted the float switch. The a/c install date was December 22, 2010. The City of Coconut Creek performed their formal inspection and the job passed 100% in full on February 15, 2011. The leaking occurred on June 17, 2011. Only (1) visit needed since date of install and we took care of the problem. Again, we are sorry the member is not happy, but I must say we have upheld our obligations with her a/c installation contract. Respectfully Eric Pereira, President

When the 1st unit was installed it was blowing cold air, however it would not switch off the first night and I had to turn off the main in order to stop my family from freezing. After making numerous calls to ATC they finally sent someone out to rectify the issue on the following day without any apology. I then purchased a home in Coral Springs which has 2 A/C units the 1st was installed in March with no issues and the second was installed in July, when the second unit was installed I was informed my electric would decrease, what a joke that was. I received my first electric bill and it increased by over $130 for 2 consecutive months and at that stage FPL came to inspect the unit in order for ATC to receive the FPL rebate. Upon inspection FPL informed me that they had not installed the unit correctly and that cold air was blowing into my attic. ATC returned 3 days later to rectify the problem and my electric bill decreased by $120 during one of the hottest months of the year. I contacted ATC requesting some kind of compensation for there error and my unnecessary expense and was treated like a piece of dirt by one of there senior managers. He told me how can I take the word from an FPL worker who only earns $10 an hour, the call ended and nothing was resolved. I would highly recommend that nobody uses this company as the level of professionalism and customer service is appalling concidering the amount of business I have given them over the past year and I was not asking for the world.
Description of Work: Air around the clock have installed 3 units for me over the past year, 1 in my townhouse in Tamarac, Fl and 2 A/C in my home in Coral Springs 1 in March 2011 and the second unit in July 2011.

Member states a strong case of dissatisfaction regarding the (3) a/c replacements installed at his Coral Springs and Tamarac locations. Customer complaints are taken seriously and always addressed and Member has never been denied service. The first a/c replacement in Tamarac took place July 20, 2010, Yes, there have been a few service visits, but under guarantee/warranty and never was there a charge. One visit we gave the customer instructions on the usage of his thermostat. Another visit was for noise and we installed a compressor blanket, at no charge. The next visit was with our supervisor and a crew where we turned the air handler as per city request. The last visit was for the customers own existing drain line that was backed up in which we cleared it out and reset the float switch at no charge. This job passed The City of Tamarac inspection. January 20, 2011 we replaced zone #1 a/c system at the Coral Springs location. No service calls have been requested or issued for this system. This job passed the City of Coral Springs inspection. July 6, 2011 we replaced zone #2 system at the same Coral Springs location. No service calls have been requested or issued for this system until September 10, 2011 where FP&L advised of a necessary correction, which was completed on this date. No service calls have been requested or issued after this September date. This 2nd zone is scheduled for a final inspection with the city later this month. Member claims no apology was expressed., but did he forget to mention that we offered him a free maintenance agreement in lieu of his inconvenience, which may I say he flatly refused. This was a our measure of showing good faith. Our customers are not treated “like dirt”. If we behaved as Member claims then we would not last in business and let me say 30 years of successful business and customer relations proves a such. I’m sorry Member feels this way and I’m sure with his unkind statements that he will never speak well of my company. I try to please everyone, but sometimes no matter what you do or offer some people will never be happy or satisfied. I can document and prove the service history at both locations. Member's dissatisfaction with the Tamarac job has obviously blinded his judgement over the exceptional work performed at the Coral Springs location. Nonetheless, my offer still remains for a free maintenance policy valued At $175.00 at no charge at his home. Respectfully, Eric Pereira, President

We purchased a new unit 8/22/09 from AATC for $5,590.00 and the unit has a 10 year warrantee. On 8/18/2011, we came into our home realizing the air was not cooling. We both work and typically arrive home after 6pm most nights. We called for help and appreciated a repairman coming over to our home within in the hour to diagnose the problem which took all of 20 minutes. This was at a cost of $175.00 due to it being an emergency call. Then I was informed that the part was covered under warrantee but the labor was not, so the part would be ordered and installed the next day with a labor cost of $ 295.00. With 90+ degree weather in mid summer, we did not have much of a choice. The part was installed the next day, which took approximately 1 hour, my total cost was $470.00 – this is outrageous !!!. I wrote the company a letter requesting a partial return of funds because of the extreme cost, promoting ourselves as 12+ years a customer and the purchase and installation of the new unit by them. The only conciliation Pam offered was a discount on a 1 year maintenance agreement. I have never worked with an company that didnt include their service call in with the parts and labor final.... and she tried to explain to me that had I called before 5pm then the service call would have been included and much less. The more I tried to explain that working people would not have known the unit was malfunctioning until arrival home and that she should tier her labor force to accomodate - she kept saying it is company policy, it is company policy, it's company policy....she even went as far to explain to me that she works long hours, much longer that I do if I arrive home at 5.... "quote - No body works longer hours than I do - unquote". I ended our conversation with my notifying her I would find another company for my business in the future. I paid $352.50 per hour; I just cannot believe, in these hard times, that a loyal customer was soooo ripped off and treated so poorly. Unbelieveable !!!
Description of Work: a 2 year old 5 ton air condt unit. The condenser froze up. An "emergency call" at 6:30pm for approximately 20 minutes and a 1 hour service all the next day at 4:00 to replace the part.

Response from Air Around the Clock A/C & Appliance Service
Our company responded to this original complaint with a phone call and while she may not have been satisfied, she has left off the threat to use your venue as well as the better business bureau . I can only assume that if we had refunded the money, everything would have been okay and your customer would have felt no need to warn others. This complaint moves to the border of extortion, give to me or I shall file a complaint. We did not do anything wrong. The comment that it was 20 minutes and 1 hour does not reflect on the true time involved. When a man is dispatched for emergency service he is paid from the time he leaves his home, and he may not live right next door to the customers house. The time it takes him to get there and return home is included in our costs. The replacement of a warranty part is not just the labor to install, paperwork for the manufacturer, returning the part to the distributor and follow up time to be sure we are reimbursed for the part we have returned. These all add up, perhaps ten minutes at a time plus travel time, but the one hour is not the complete picture. This is like the $5 aspirin in a hospital. The is so much more than a nurse giving you an aspirin out of a bottle. The doctor writes the order, the pharmacy receives and fills the order, they deliver it to the nurses’ station, the nurse gives it to you, the nurse enters that it has been dispensed and then the billing department bills for it. It takes 2 seconds for them to hand you an aspirin. They are not entitled to recover the expenses, oh and the pharmacy has to be open 24 hours a day, just in case someone needs an aspirin. We do try to keep our prices fair, and customers happy. The long time and brand new customers are important to us, but we do need to cover expenses. We have been here for a long time and if we charge for only time in the house we would be like many other companies that have closed their doors. I appreciate that she is not happy, but she was happy with the quality of our service and the timeliness. This residence has paid an emergency service charge twice in the past, choosing to not wait until the morning, or next day so it should not have been a surprise.

As I do not believe in coincidence, I questioned the validity of having "service" one week and the unit failing the next week. The second tech checked the paperwork from the first tech and stated that the potential problems were written on that sheet, via numerical standards used in the industry. Nothing was said to me at the time of the "maintenance." I was told all was well. As I smelled a rat, I called another a/c company which came out the same day and repaired the unit for $266, finding that the cap was the only repair needed. The unit is running smoothly and cooling efficiently. I do not trust Air Around the Clock and will never use them again.
Description of Work: We purchased the largest of our two a/c units from this company about a year ago as they had the best price for the specific unit we desired. I have no problems with that unit or that installation. At the time of installation, I agreed to a service contract which would cover all the appliances in our home as well as the smaller, older a/c unit. I kept getting reminders in the mail about scheduling maintenance on the a/c units and finally found the time to schedule same. A tech came out on 8/3. He seemed very nice and professional. He checked the indoor components for both units and both were working well, cooling well. He then went outside to check those components. As it was lightly raining, I asked him to bypass checking the newer unit and perform maintenance on the smaller.older one only. Thank goodness he only "checked" one outside unit! Exactly one week after performing maintenance on the smaller unit, it stopped cooling. I called the company and they sent out a tech right away. He examined the failed unit and said it needed a new condenser fan motor/cap and a new cap and start kit for the compressor, a $595 repair. Or, better yet, he advised we should buy a new unit for $3,000.

Response from Air Around the Clock A/C & Appliance Service
In response to the issues raised by our customer: I have reviewed the paperwork and spoken to the tech that recommended the repair or replacement of the system. What has been left out is that while the system did fail after our maintenance was performed this is not a sign of nefarious acts. The electrical components of an A/C system can and do fail at sometimes random times. This system is 11 years old, our mechanic did put a capacitor and a start kit on the system, showed the customer the amperage that was being pulled by the motor, and then discussed the repair. The price of the Cap/Motor/Start Kit was around $600 and the amount to be spent on an 11 year old system is a lot. The quote and recommendation of a replacement system was the right thing to do as well as the replacement of the motor as the over drawing will cause the new cap to fail eventually. The company that did the repair did it in a lowest cost method. That does not make it right, just less expensive. Our mechanic diagnosed the problem offered a solution, showed the partial solution worked and left options, there was nothing done wrong at that time. The first man to the home did not communicate well with the homeowner and therefore has shown that we need to make sure that he checks everything AND informs the customer verbally as well as in writing of issues and possible issues. I hope that we can have the customer review this and adjust their rating. Eric Pereira President

They were very fast, very professional, and very inexpensive. They were here only once; but I really liked them. Everything turned out very well, and I haven't had any problem since. They are prompt. They do call me up ahead of time and schedule to solve my problem. They do ask if anybody in the house needs the air conditioning for medical problem, which my mother does. She has a very bad heart condition. They made an effort to get here more quickly than probably they would have.

Just outstanding experience. The best service experience I've ever had considering that the refrigerator-freezer stopped working late Friday night. I called at midnight and a person answered my call and told me they'd call back in the morning. They called back promptly at 8am Saturday morning and the serviceman called back 10 minutes later with an estimated time for the service call between 9am and 11am. The serviceman showed up at 1030am, diagnosed the problem as a bad circuit board, had a new replacement on board and installed it, checked it out, and the refrigerator was running within 15 minutes. The service call charge of $95 was applied to the very reasonable price for the repair. BTW, all those bad reviews because the service company charged for the service call to diagnose the problem are patently unfair. Almost all service companies have such a charge, and they are entitled to be paid for their labor. Afterall, the doctor charges for the office visit whether you're sick or not. People should be very happy when a service person shows up. In this case, the $95 charge was on the high side, but that may reflect that it was on a Saturday. As I said, the service charge was irrelevant since it was applied to the very reasonable price of the repair, which included the cost of the circuit board - a mini-computer.
Description of Work: My 6 year old GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator-freezer stopped working, nothing functioned, none of the LED control lights were displaying, the compressor was not running, and the ice was beginning to melt. Only things the worked were the lights in the refrigerator and freezer compartments. As I expected, it turned out to be a bad circuit board, which was immediately replaced with a new unit the serviceman had in his truck.

They charged me $600 and that was a lot of money. They are timely, excellent employees and do very good work. I would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: I used Air Around The Clock A/C & Appliance Service maybe two months ago. They did an acid wash on my air coils.

They were able to schedule an appointment within a couple of days. The first service person that came to my house diagnosed, and it appears to be correct, that the evaporator coil needed to be cleaned. I asked how long that would take, and he said 1.5 to 2 hours. I called to schedule an additional appointment for that cleaning. I asked the person how long it would take, and she said 1.5 to 2 hours. I was given a two-hour window of arrival for the person to perform the service, and the person came at the last minute of that two-hour window. I had made plans based on the windows and predictions I was given, but he confirmed it would take 1.5-2 hours when he arrived. However, he then said it would take 2.5 hours since he needed to access the roof via a ladder. I had to cancel the cleaning and reschedule for the next week which they were willing to do without any additional charge. For each of the three appointments, the caller from ATC called in the morning, as promised, with the time window for arrival. The guy that cleaned it on the third appointment was knowledgeable, professional, and fixed the problem. Price was competitive ($395 that included the initial visit to find out the problem). Overall a positive experience. I was just a little frustrated over that incorrect estimate of time for the second appointment. If roof access mattered, that could've been noticed the first time. But no big deal. They got the job done. Thanks!

These guys do messy incomplete work. Cement slab for new compressor not done right and compressor not level. Inside they did not seal air handler coils properly causing mold to form on ceiling from air leaking out. Found this about a year after installation and they charged me 250.00 dollars to reseal the coils. I use Above Air now for all my AC work. MY RESPONSE TO ATC's RESPONSE......They fail to mention they were back at my house a year after the initial installation to reseal the coils...cool air was leaking out and condensing on sealing causing mold to form and they charged me 250.00 that trip should have been on their dime not mine. Also other AC companies have since been at my home and pointed out to me that the installation was not right. Now you know the reason they have not been back since 2007.
Description of Work: Installed new compressor outside and new coils in air handler inside.

Response from Air Around the Clock A/C & Appliance Service
We passed inspection with this customer back in 2004. We went out 2 years later to check to A/C and it was running properly. We are not responsible for the maintenance on the system unless the customer calls our company. In 2008 the customer called for a no air flow and that his unit was frozen. He then called back and canceled the call. We have not been to his house since 2007.

We had no heat so we called "Air Around the Clock". I was at work at time of repair. My wife commented that the repairman seemed to lack confidence in what he was doing. He said wire from sequencer to element was loose and he repaired it. We had modestly high electric bills through winter and spring, but nothing to be alarmed at. (we had recently purchased this home) When summer came our electric bill shot up dramatically to $870 for only a 2400 sq. ft. home and our a/c was running almost continuously. Remembering the lack of confidence displayed by the "Around The Clock" repairman we called another company. Their repairman documented that it was wired incorrectly so that the heating elements were coming on anytime the unit was on and was counteracting the a/c, thus the reason the unit was running almost continuously. When I notified "Air Around the Clock" they denied any responsibility even though I had documentation and the statement from the other serviceman. They tried to convince me that the system must have shortened out. This, despite what the new repairman had discovered. It had not shortened out by itself, it had been wired wrong! This mistake by "Air Around The Clock" cost us close to $1000 in excessive electricity usage. This is not a reputable company. Do not use.
Description of Work: We had no heat in our centralized electric a/c heating system so we called "Air Around the Clock" To restore heat they incorrectly wired system.

Response from Air Around the Clock A/C & Appliance Service
In response to the complaint lodged by the member the explanation is simply and basic. We dispatched our service tech on January 4, 2010 for a “No Heat” complaint. My technician found a loose wire from the sequencer to the element. The wire was reconnected and we charged the customer $85.00 which was paid in full. The member states his electric bill went up, however, he claims it went up in late spring (his own words). which tells me late spring is April/May. Had the heat been on all that time from January to the late spring then his bill would have increased immediately and not in the late spring. We reconnected a loose wire and that was all we did, by putting it back in the same spot as it so belonged. We did not even charge him a minimum labor fee, but instead only charged him the basic service charge. Had parts been replaced or repairs taken place then maybe I would reconsider the circumstances, but in this case we just reconnected his unit’s loose wire. I cannot and will not assume any responsibility for his high electric bill just as I explained to him when he came to my office. Respectfully Eric Pereira, President
