I called 6 companies and got estimates from all of them. This was the only company who came out and did a heat load on the house; climbed up into the attic to inspect the duct work; then gave me 3 options in writing including what rebates were available on each option, then they explained the difference between all 3 options so that we decided to go with a dual fuel replacement unit (Who knew this even existed?) After explaining what a dual fuel unit was, we realized this was only $200 more than the regular gas furnace we had; after rebates. They also went up from a 3 ton unit to a 3 1/2 ton unit. With the rebates this was the 2nd least expensive option. We were very pleased with their extensive knowledge and how they educated us, the buyer. Price was very good

They were late arriving; although not a big deal, since it was Saturday. Although they measured the dimensions of the HVAC closet prior to arrival, it seemed to be a big surprise when the system wouldn't fit into the closet. After several attempt of trying to get the new system to fit in the closet, the top half ended up being dropped down from the attic into the closet. A few days later when the Check Me tech was checking out the new installation, we found a plastic cup laying on the gas furnace (I wonder what that would have been like in the house on the first cold day of the year?) Luckily that was removed before we had a chance to find out. Also, they didn't have all of the required equipment and materials on hand to do the job; of particular note, a step ladder. I allowed them to use mine and they ended up taking it with them when they left for the night. They did end up returning it a few days later after a phone call to their office complaining about it (I wonder what else may be missing). Overall, though, the price was much less than anyone else in the area. And in all fairness, I think they were just having a bad day. I would definitely use them again.

I called 5/31 left msg that I needed to sched appt for repair. 8:30 next morn, rec'd call that they could not send tech out until following day (Friday, 6/2). Tech arrived at sched time, unable to make repair due to part needed to be ordered. Tech advised part would arrive by Tue and made appointment to bring part & make repair on Wed 6/7 at 9am (I'd be his first appt that day). On 6/7, I called the office at 10am and spoke with Crystal to ask where my tech was. She said part had not come in. I asked why no one called to cancel my appt/reschedule. She said she'd look into it and call me back. FRIDAY 6/9 I called AGAIN to find out what was going on and was placed on hold while Crystal was "looking into it" then she came back on briefly to say she was speaking with parts mgr & tech, back on hold. Finally, the tech comes on the phone with "sorry" and "can't control shipping" Advised they are hoping part will arrive on Monday and they will call to schedule new appt. at that time. I'm FURIOUS! I tell this tech that I'm not happy, and feel that I am not valued as a client. He repeats apology, says he can't point any fingers and has to take blame himself. He concluded the call. I can't believe that a manager did not take over at some point in that call. The front office did not apologize for failing to return Wed call about missed appointment. My time is not important? I am having to call THEM to chase down answers? Serously? Front office can't be bothered to make return call, as promised, after I call questioning the missed appointment? Does my time/schedule mean nothing? I seriously doubt I'll be calling Economy the next time I need an appliance repair. I need a company that respects and values me as a client, and believes that MY TIME is just as important as theirs. Who knows if this job will be completed...? NOT HAPPY

The technician did a great job of the repairs. I had the same exact problem occur 7 months later with my stove; the office could not find my paperwork, only guarantees their work for 30 days, and could give me no idea whether the part was warrantied by the manufacturer.

The A/C went out and when I called them to let them know that I had a young child in the house, they made sure that they made it a priority to get here and evaluate my air conditioner. They promptly got me a new one. All of the workers that came in were clean, friendly and informed me of everything that they were doing. I would use them again in future.

These people are AMAZING! After a bad experience with another company in Angie's list, I called Economy. I got a scheduled appointment for a walk thru and he showed promptly. I got a solution for my problem, a quote and was scheduled for repair all then. The guys were able to fit me in 2 days earlier and they were professional, courteous and all the work was completed in a timely manner. They even cleaned up after themselves well!! I will NEVER use another company! VERY satisfied!

To be honest, I wasn't expecting such quick and professional service because mine was a home warranty claim. It's no secret all home warranty companies have a bad reputation and many negative customer reviews. I assume that is because folks are more likely to complain than compliment. I filed my online claim Tuesday night. I received a reply from the home warranty company within minutes with the contact information for the service provider, Economy Appliance Heat & Air.. I called EAHA Wednesday morning and made an appointment for Thursday noon - 2pm. They called me back on that same day asking if I were home because they could come right out. I was not so we stuck with the Thursday noon - 2pm appointment time. Michael Riley, the technician assigned to my claim, called that morning to confirm the time. He called again to let me know when he was about 20 minutes out. He showed up well within the appointment time. Michael was very professional and thorough making sure I understood everything he was doing and the problem I was having. In less than 2 hours my A/C was up and running like new. I am very satisfied that my home warranty company sent out Economy Appliance Heat & Air. I intend to dump my current semi-annual maintenance program with another company and hire Economy Appliance after this great service.

I have called them before but this time, they could not repair it and they were very kind enough to tell me that it was going to be pretty much the cost of another dryer. So, I just got a new dryer instead since the service was going to be over $130 if they did it. They were very good. I believe that they charge $65 for their service calls and they did not even charge me for that. They were honest and reasonable.

This is the second time that my home warranty company sent these guys to my house - this is the second house. The first time they came out in 2010 was to change out an A/C system. Here they didn't pull permits, use the right equipment, or do the job correctly. They put my house at great risk of catching fire according to the county inspector that came out prior to the second company that came to fix their mess up. They reversed wires and cut holes in the duct without patching them and then threw all the trash on the floor of the attic. The home warranty company ended up paying us to go buy window units and fans for several rooms in our house due to the horrible work that was done until the second company came out to replace the replacement. This time they came out again because they were the only one's that were able to make it out on the date called. They came out and the guy was somewhat knowledgeable and had me thinking that maybe they have improved a bit. As he continued to work, I was quickly coming to the realization that nothing has changed. He finally figured out how to use his tools and then figured out a bit later that the compressor was bad. Another one was ordered and took four days to get here. If I wouldn't have called today, they would have had me wait until Monday (a second blistering weekend) to have it replaced. The guy that came out also didn't give me much hope, but I'm desperate to get the A/C working for my one and two and a half year old as they are miserable. So after telling me that they would be there by 1:30 and not showing up until 3:30 after making several calls and getting reassurance that he would be there by 2/2:30 at the latest. He spent the next hour and a half changing the compressor in the unit. When he was done, he spent a few minutes checking things out and then asked if he could hose off outside. The A/C was blowing ok and it was cooler air, so it was fine. Three hours later, the air flow was EXTREMELY weak and warm. I checked the air handler and the copper pipes were snow cone frozen. The coils were frozen and the outside units copper pipes were frozen! Everything points to there not being enough Puron in the unit. Checking the thermostat, the temperature has gone up from 81 to 87 degrees when it was on. He simply didn't do his job and forgot the key component to an A/C system! They don't have an after hours number and they don't post anywhere their hours of operation. The home warranty company and I hoped that they were open on Saturday so that someone can come out and fix their mess up. At 11:30 PM, I got a phone call from the person on call. I was told that he just got off a call and wouldn't be able to get out to me tonight as he was going home. His solution to me was to defrost the coils by running the fan only mode on the AC for about 40 minutes and then to turn the AC back on until it froze the coils again and to repeat the process. He said I would have to do this every two to three hours - thus not allowing any real sleep to be had in order to not start blowing hot air in the house. He then proceeded to say that he has another appointment in the morning, but would get to me by 12:00 PM to take a look at what's wrong. The next morning a gentleman showed up around 10:15/30. He said he was here to add more Puron to the system and to make sure that there were no leaks. After a little while, he knocked on the door and said that he filled the compressor to the proper specks and that the guy before him is younger and doesn't really fill them up the way he likes to. He then stated that he was the OWNER of the company and that he thinks this should work this time. The air that was blowing was cool and we figured it was ok. We then proceeded to tell him about the history between his company and us being that in 2009 his company was pulled off the contract for my house's A/C replacement and another company sent in to fix their failed county inspection installation. After telling him this, he said that "Maybe we do suck. Maybe you should have someone else come out and fix this if that happened." Not something that a professional should say as he didn't seem to be joking. This left a bitter taste in our mouths and made my wife very uncomfortable with their work yet again. That Monday, the house was again at 80+ degrees. The AC was blowing hot air yet AGAIN. I called the AC company directly and told them that it was hot again and not working. I was first told that no one would be able to be there today because they were busy. I explained to them that they have been out here three times for the same thing already and still having the same problem. It was a repair issue and someone needed to be out here today. Again I was told that that wasn't likely. I then told them that the owner said to contact him if there was another problem. They said they would contact him and call me back shortly. After waiting two hours, I called the home warranty company and informed them of the ongoing issue and what I was told. They called Economy while I was on the phone and was told that they would be calling me shortly. After a few minutes they called me and said a tech was on the way out.The tech showed up and said he was going to check everything out again. After a while he came back and said that he needed a part that was on the condenser unit that isn't there now - the hard start that the tech who replaced the unit took off and said it wasn't needed. He then said that the guy who installed it messed up because he put a second filter on the line but that the filter that he put on was for the wrong type of A/C system; he put a filter on for a straight cool unit not a heat pump unit like we have installed on the house. So he said he took the filter off totally and just made it a straight piece of pipe now without a filter. He said that everything that should have needed to be filtered out should have been caught already and nothing should be left so it's ok. After this it started blowing cold air again. However I'm pretty weary of the work at this point. The home warranty company is also going to have a second company come out to do a second opinion on their repairs to make sure that nothing else is wrong. This is the second time that this company has come to one of my residences for and A/C repair and completely mess things up. It was 9 days that I hadn't A/C and and an additional day and a half without it and in 90+ degree weather. These guys are a joke and I've heard similar stories from people that my wife works with. BEWARE!!! It has been an extremely frustrating experience with this company. Not to mention that because of them and their inability to make it on time, I missed an appointment. I did say that I would be available anytime, but once they set an appointment with me I made an appointment with plenty of time in-between and they couldn't show up when stated. It wasn't a pressing appointment, but the fact of the matter is that they didn't arrive at the time that THEY set. UPDATE (6 Feb. 2014): Scheduling the first time was not same day - maybe your policy, but it wasn't being practiced. The home warranty company stated that they never received a call about the mistake made in regards to the dryer filter installation until after I called them and they sent the tech out to verify. They admitted no mistake. The mention of the techs going into the attic was for my previous experience with the company, not this experience as stated in the review - in which Economy was fired from the job and failed inspection via the county. 1256 McKenzie Rd. if you care to look it up and see the misery you caused there. Even the home warranty people told us to fire you and they would send out another company. The person that came to our house and stated that he was the owner DID in fact say that since they're that bad that we should fire them. He said that in front of three people. If he wants to lie and say he didn't that's his decision and really I can care less since we know what he actually said. The owner stated that he will call the home warranty company to see what he can disclose to us; the home warranty people stated that they were never contacted afterwards and that the company can disclose what ever they like about what's going on as long as they don't set specific dates to complete repairs because those are not known immediately, other than that, anything can be told to us.
Description of Work: First trip: A/C wasn't blowing cold air nor was the airflow at all prominent from the vents in the house. They came out and diagnosed that the compressor in the condenser unit was bad. Second trip: They replaced the condenser. Third trip: They had to put in the proper amount of Puron to meet specs. Fourth trip: They had to put a part on that they took off in order to have the unit run and then remove a part from the system that wasn't built for a heat pump A/C system.

Response from Economy Appliance Heat & Air
Economy Appliance heat and Air Inc. has been in business in the Pensacola area for over 23 years. We have worked hard to earn our reputation for prompt, professional repairs and installations. Over the years we have been requested by several home warranty companies, including The Customer's home warranty, to perform services and installations because of our outstanding reputation. Economy was contracted by The Customer's home warranty company to provide a diagnosis for his air conditioning concerns. In both instances we were able to schedule an appointment, diagnose and relay our findings to the home warranty company the same day. We strive to expedite all claims to the home warranty companies as we understand the delay in a home warranty companies process. Once our report is sent, it must go through an authorization process. Parts must be shipped by the home warranty company via freight truck from their non local distributors. From this point, we too were unsatisfied with the delay. Once the repair parts arrived we scheduled the installation for the same day to take care of our customer as quickly as possible. The 3/8 liquid line filter dryer shipped by the home warranty company was a single directional model which is not designed for use with a heat hump in the heating mode, but will work properly with the system in the cooling mode. We immediately contacted the home warranty company to inform them of their mistake. Our goal is to minimize down time so we continued to install the supplied parts while we waited for the proper parts to arrive. Upon arrival of the correct bi directional filter dryer, we were able to schedule and install them the same day. Our records indicate, as well as The Customer's statement that the work was performed on the outdoor unit, not in the attic. We strive to treat customer's homes with the greatest respect to clean any debris left during any repair or installation. As owner and founder of our family business of over 23 years, I have always done my best to build and improve this company for the benefit of its 20+ employees and all of our customers. We provide training and hold the NATE certification to ensure we obtain the latest in the industry knowledge. I have never and will never make a derogatory statement about my company and employees that I am devoted to and proud of. We stand behind all of our work and have labor warranties in place to provide that assurance. The home warranty company requests that we discuss all matters directly with them and refrain from discussion with the home owner until the home warranty's authorization department contacts them with the available options. This is due to the fact we are hired by the home warranty company and not the home owner. I will personally contact the home warranty companies in regard to this issue to see what information can be disclosed to the owner so we can try and avoid this situation in the future. If you are having any issues with your repair work, we would love the opportunity to take care of you and add you to our ever growing satisfied customer base. Sincerely, Kenneth Siefert President Economy Appliance Heat and Air Inc. 850-944-9702 Lic#CAC814370
